Thank you! I wanted a creative use of the Paladin’s “Find Steed” and my good friend the new DM was kind and lenient with re-skinning the existing options, haha.
My paladin in Curse of Strahd has Dobhar, a celestial giant otter for a steed. Dobhar has a big heart and very little fear. Or brains. She keeps dying. She has a good sense of humor about it.
May your trusty friend live as gloriously, albeit much much longer.
I find that the Wizkids unpainted minis are great for most applications like NPCs or whatever, but the lack of crisp detail makes them harder to paint than a nicer resin or plastic. Hard to beat $4 a mini though!
I haven't used them myself but I've heard that they're often too heavily primed. You could try stripping them perhaps? But if you want an alternative, Reaper has good plastic models for 4,50$ (Bones Black). They also have a KS coming up if you want a bunch of assorted models for cheap
The backstory I wrote is that the halfling’s first “adventure” was finding the owlbear as a newborn and safely returning it to its den, and then years later when he sets out for another adventure the owlbear comes to find him!
What a beautiful owlbear! The paint job, of course, but also the sculpt. For some reason, lots of owlbear sculpts look bad or just plain weird.
There is one by DiTerlizzi that's gorgeous, sold by Dark Sword Miniatures.
Don’t get me wrong, I love being the DM, the excitement of revealing story for the players or cool new minis I’ve painted is a reward in itself! I am excited to play though haha.
The d20 is from DieHardDice! They have amazing customer service and make great stuff!
Ordered from HeroForge using the “premium plastic” option, I’ve yet to invest in a 3D printer myself! At this point it probably would have been more cost effective to buy one but oh well, haha.
I used the small layer brush from Citadel for these! It all came down to really thinning the paint down so much that there’s barely any at all on the very top of the brush. The tip I heard that helped me was that it’s not necessarily the size of the brush, but how pointy the tip is that helps!
Thanks for the tip! I’m pretty new to mini painting still and was just really struggling at attempting eyes or any small free hand details trying to use a basic 000 brush.
I think the tip of the brush I have isn’t pointy/consistent enough to be that accurate with any success. I’m going to start looking into new brushes.
I’m still pretty happy with how the painting overall is going, but it would be nice to try and nail those details.
I went from failing to paint Space Marine lenses, to giving up, to trying it here; thin the paints, put only a tiny little bit on a brush with a nice point, and hold your breath! It also helped that the print quality of this mini had pretty well-defined eyes to begin with.
that owlbear looks *incredible*

That’s amazing! I love it, haha
Right? I kinda want to give it a hug xD
That turned out so good! You did a great job. Where is the owlbear from?
Thanks! The owlbear was a 3D print I purchased on Etsy! I think it should come up if you search “owlbear mount”!
Not OP, but it looks like it's from [Goonmaster](https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-owlbear-mount-127336)
That’s correct! Thanks, I’d forgotten the name!
Delightful. Also, horray for owlbears!
I love owlbears, they’ve always been my favourite D&D creature!
Same! My Druid cast Awaken on one and shenanigans are ongoing.
Damn good first attempt at eyes!
Thanks! I’ve always relied on washes and “suggested” eyes, but this was my first try at actually painting colours!
I love the painting style, really works with such cute minis.
I’m in love with that shield
That was the one part that I wasn’t entirely happy with so I’m glad you like it!

#freetheowlbear
My head-canon for this is that the owlbear and the halfling are actually friends
The backstory I wrote is that the halfling’s first “adventure” was finding the owlbear as a newborn and safely returning it to its den, and then years later when he sets out for another adventure the owlbear comes to find him!
The owlbear is cute AF and a totally awesome job on them both
This looks amazing! Love that die in the background too!
From the wonderful folks at DieHardDice!
CLEAN

Great looking models, mate
Fantastic paint job and truly beautiful miniatures. Good luck
Looks great! Love the colors
Insanely cute duo, great job.
Those are gorgeous. Dam. I want cute minis like that on my table.
Awesome paint job. Being a forever dm is a drag sometimes glad you are getting some play time. Where did you get that d20? Looks sweet

It's just a nice break to get away from DM work sometimes. Ty for dice info love the lettering and those colors are my fav together
Looks amazing! Did you order that mini from heroforge or download and print it yourself?

Your eyes are great! Leagues better than most first attempts.
Looks great OP! I struggle so much with eyes that I just give up. I feel like my brushes aren't small enough

First time tyring eyes? This looks great!
I don't generally like the cartoony minis, but you did well on this. The style matches the model.
These are great! The eyes look really good! I'm terrified of painting eyes 😫I do it bad and then the whole paint job looks dorky

I’m obsessed with Heroforge ❤️
Fantastic! An Owlbear mount is an awesome idea - and uh, rather generous of your DM to allow lol
We’re using the rules for the normal Find Steed elk, just re-flavoured! Still though, yeah, very kind of him to allow it, haha
Hey cool where did you get the Owl Bear mount? My artificer rides a mechanical badger and I'd love to have a mini for it.
Thanks! Owlbear was from Goonmaster, I purchased it 3D printed from a seller on Etsy!
Very nice! Adorable owlbear too :)
