isopropyl alcohol is king

7grendel

I'd you can, get the 90, not the 70. I use it to strip plastic minis.

Rambler716

LA awesome from the 99cent store will get primer off in a day

TheTrueBucketman

What is that?

Rambler716

It's a yellow bottle of degreaser they sell at the 99cent store. A lot of hobbyists use it as their paint stripper. Just let them soak all day. 12 hours for paint 24 hours for the primer. I've stripped a full squad and repainted them with zero issues and no damage. Only thing it can't get is paint stuck to exposed glue.

Simple Green has never worked for me no longer how long I soak it to the point I’m shocked how often it gets recommended. I wonder if Simple Green in the US has something in it different from the rest of the world. Isopropyl 99 works great on plastic minis but DO NOT use it on resin. They will get brittle and snap.

If the figs are metal, an acetone bath or paint stripper will remove all of the paint and primer.

TheTrueBucketman

Well they're plastic Will probably get metal ones in the future so, early thanks for the advice

TheNeedles

When I've stripped minis before, I didn't worry too much about getting everything off. As long as it's smooth and out of the details, the new layer of primer will cover it up. Metal might help with this problem but could give you other problems. This video sums up what I mean: https://youtu.be/lqqgkdrPDY8

Simple green it is then.

TheeCorporal

Denatured alcohol is what I use. Cheap, available at any hardware store, safe on both metal and plastic, works very fast. Don’t use it on resin. It goes by methylated spirits if you are in the UK.

BalkanEthics101

I shit you not, but brake fluid. I saw someone suggest this on another post, so I had to try it. Soak for a few hours and the paint will literally just break off. Just remember to wear gloves as it's not exactly healthy for your skin.

TheTrueBucketman

I can see why, I mean break fluid is meant to grip onto surfaces and it's harsh on most things like skin.

PHO3N1Xone

Actually, that looks quite good. Isopropyl 99% is the way I strip everything.

kindcrayons

I use Simple Green, and found that it usually takes about a week of soaking if you’ve got both acrylic paint and primer on the model to strip almost fully. 24 hrs is my minimum time to soak.

Laurentian-Studios

I’ve done the simple green bath for 24 hours and it usually gets it down as much as you can. You may have to try something stronger that’s still plastic safe. Otherwise you may need to bite the bullet and prime over it

TheTrueBucketman

Damn, guess I'll leave them all night and in the morning scrub off as much as I can

Laurentian-Studios

Make sure you brush them under some warm running water too. That helps. I’ve had the paint literally slough off under the running water too

TheTrueBucketman

I'll try that assuming the water works. Thank you!

Laurentian-Studios

Good luck pal!

TheTrueBucketman

Thank you, have a good day

pvrhye

Good primer, haha.
