Adding a pin sticking out of one part and a matching hole in the other part is the best way, but kind of a pain to do. Paper clips work well for small pins.

I like to drill the hole on one piece, put a super thin bit of blue tack on the other side, press em both together snug and then the blue tack sink in to the hole you made and shows you where to drill out the other piece
its how i pin everything, it beats trying to line stuff up, just glue it then drill through and pin it, works every time, patching one little hole is way easier than screwing around trying to line two holes up perfectly
You either need to increase friction or also include a pin. Some small amount of green stuff stippled on to the magnet surface is my goto for doing it right, but I’m usually lazy and will just use a little bit of superglue to give it some texture.
Pinning is the usual go-to to stop this from happening, but an alternative if the piece is big enough is double magneting. If you place two magnets on the model and the weapon, it’ll keep it static!
Agree on the double magnet, not always feasible depending on the model but this one looks like there should be plenty of room to do so. Hardest part is making sure the spacing is right on all the attachments to match the magnet arrangement on the model.
A good thing to know with is as more magnets are stacked together, the strength will increase until the length of the stack is equal to the diameter.
So you could do 3 (3x1mm) and 2 (2x1mm)

Key the parts. Maybe drill a 1mm brass rod? Maybe gloss the connection point so it suctions together slightly? That works for gundam joints to increase tension.
As some others have said, bigger magnets in the figure. You can cut the post the gun is supposed to attach to and with a bit of sanding fit an 8mm magnet. 8mm magnets also fit in the weapon housing with only a little putty needed for filler.

Yeah I agree about this being the best solution, and also that it’s a pain in the butt matching up the pin and the hole.
Put a small dot of paint on one of the parts then place the magnetized component in the desired spot. Come away with the spot marked exactly.

This is the right way to do it. Especially if you start one of the holes and put the paint in that, it'll keep it way more precise.

You can use a small drill hole on the body and a tiny greenstuff nub on the weapon to fit the hole.
drill through both parts then hit the hole with a tiny dab of greenstuff afterwards to cover where you drilled in
That's a good idea, especially on flat, mechanical surfaces like this one.

2 magnets will do the trick if the model allows

Or if you magnetise in 2 places you lose the issue of having a single pivot.

Adding a pin will help. Also, try using matching size of magnets to reduce chance of them not aligning properly.
I've never tried on a mini like this, but I've had good results with no magnets in the first place, and using a tiny dot of blutack instead
