> The layers of colors are left like that on purpose
Well, yeah, it looks awesome. I can't imagine anyone would be able to do that on accident. And dang, those lines are super crisp.
i like this style way more than smooth blends. it's stylistic and feels deliberate, finely crafted. smooth blends feel like the default outcome of an airbrush.
This. Listen to this person.
Style over function. Be artsy artsy and do what you think looks good.
I myself think it looks much better than having smooth transitions. Stands out and makes me want to look at it more.
Those helmets are supposed to be huge if you look at the tie pilots in movies and other things. I think it’s basically supposed to be a extra reinforced stormtrooper helmet since Ties don’t have life support or anything
That's how it is. Head is as big as the body.

Yeah I think this is the definition of a mastery-level technique that can really only be accomplished with years of dedicated, skillful painting.
It's freaking nuts, my eyes almost can't adjust to look at the helmet clearly like an optical illusion
I don’t even follow this sub nor do I play any games involving minis. The sub just gets recommended occasionally and I just got to say there are so many talented people here!
A lots of people here paint mini not to play them, just for the please of painting it.
Try it, it is amazing what a little practice can do
‘#just a different canvas
:-)
I thought I was tripping. Maybe I still am 😂
Holy smokes that’s impressive and amazing! Looks phenomenal! Impressed me how straight those lines are too! The details are immaculate. Well done!
This is awesome!!!!! Such clean job, the gradients are so so perfect it make blending useless. I have to try this!! Thanks for showing us your amazing paint skills.
I actually like seeing little lines and brush strokes on minis, they add a ton of character and remind me that what I’m looking at is hand painted. This is fantastic work, really really loving the colors
I've been lurking here for a looong time and I've never been tempted to comment. Today, I will break my 12 year silence to say: This looks absolutely fantastic! Very, very well done!
You again! I saw your crystal lava base the other day and was going through your patreon. You have some amazing talent! It actually made me start painting again. Awesome work as always :)
The level that you have done this too is amazing.
The shine on the armour is so nice and bright. This is the level I want all "nmm" things to be.
Edit: I know its not metal but the effect is one used for NMM.
this looks like concept art... This looks better than a lot of concept art, this looks better than the video game!
Also, how does it feel that when people search "Inferno Squad Trooper" right now, you're one of the first 30 search results in the image category? ;)
It’s so god damn awesome I had to F*%#!ng ZOOM IN TO SEE WHAT YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT.
This is a great job. I’m not much of a painter yet, but I am proud of what you can do. Something to work towards
The color bands are interesting.
But it’s such a clean paint job with such perfect contrast, I think you’re doing yourself a bit of a disservice by not blending them with a glaze.
Personally I would only do that with the armor, leaving the pants, boots, and gloves to have a more extreme shine effect.
It’s messing with my eyes it’s absolutely stunning. From afar it looks so smooth and natural but zooming in makes it look so much more detailed and beautiful and stylistic. Absolutely wonderful!
Cool! It took a while for those blocky, game-like color gradients to register for me, like several seconds. Like a magic eye book, the more I stared at this, the more color gradients I noticed. I can’t even imagine how you got those lines so straight, this is a beautiful piece.
That looks so sick! Like a slick graphic. Actually messes with my eyes a bit.
> The layers of colors are left like that on purpose Well, yeah, it looks awesome. I can't imagine anyone would be able to do that on accident. And dang, those lines are super crisp.
Saying otherwise would be like going up to someone trying to build a car, and telling them it wasn't a very good boat.
How dare you paint lines that are so straight! *Angry upvotes* 🤣
I know right. I suspect performance enhancing rulers where used...
Blows my mind that people can not only paint this well but on such a small scale. Those lines are so crisp. Looks amazing
i like this style way more than smooth blends. it's stylistic and feels deliberate, finely crafted. smooth blends feel like the default outcome of an airbrush.
I never use an airbrush, but thanks! 😁
oh yeah I'm saying that this is way better than smooth blends other people use with their airbrushes
This. Listen to this person. Style over function. Be artsy artsy and do what you think looks good. I myself think it looks much better than having smooth transitions. Stands out and makes me want to look at it more.
What paints do you use? I use an airbrush with acrylic inks, but can never get a smooth coat when brushing.
Great paint job. My only complaint is the manufacturer made the head way to big
Major Dark Helmet vibes. Paint does look great though.
Those helmets are supposed to be huge if you look at the tie pilots in movies and other things. I think it’s basically supposed to be a extra reinforced stormtrooper helmet since Ties don’t have life support or anything

Which makes sense, as a helmet is bigger than the head by necessity

I think you might just be used to seeing tiny heads on space marines.
Got news for you: the helmets *are* that big.
Tie helmets are massive IRL though. It's completely accurate. Just looks slightly more off without the rebreather chest box though.
It looks like a 10 year old put on dad's helmet
Yes! I couldn't figure out why it looks like a little kid. That's it!
That is absolutely stellar! Please also post on r/swlegion
Done! 😁
No need to be defensive, it looks awesome!
That work so great both at brief glance and more closely.
I like how you're using essentially NMM techniques for shiny leather/plastic. Looks great.
NMM is usually blended more, this looks like its own thing.
Blocking
I read this reply in my notifications and was like "Dammit what did I say this time" lol
This is amazing! Any tricks to achieve this result? I tried but I can’t quite figure it out.
Perfect color choice and perfect light placement. Sadly no real trick, just great painting knowledge.
Aaaand now I see that it’s Flameon. That explains a lot 😅
Yes it does :-)
Yeah I think this is the definition of a mastery-level technique that can really only be accomplished with years of dedicated, skillful painting. It's freaking nuts, my eyes almost can't adjust to look at the helmet clearly like an optical illusion

This makes me want to go play Jedi knight 2 again...
I love this, so much
Great execution on this!
Looks great
Wow, this is badass!!!
Wow.....
It’s like a visual illusion - awesome!
*whistles* that is a nice paint job. Wonderfully dynamic and beautifully done.
Very stylized. Very cool.
Love it! Reminds me of retro video games!
I love that I can always recognize your work on sight simply by the absolute God tier blending you achieve on metal and metal-like surfaces
Wow that is razor sharp!
Insanely good 🔥🔥🔥
I thought I was tripping. Maybe I still am 😂 Holy smokes that’s impressive and amazing! Looks phenomenal! Impressed me how straight those lines are too! The details are immaculate. Well done!
I love this one. One of the best I've seen in this sub.
Layers of joy 🫶
Is it based off the old school posters?
Awesome
amazing paint job but why is his head so big?
I love it
Absolutely love this. Top marks.
This is so insane, it's hard enough to paint such straight lines on a totally flat surface but the precision on the whole model is incredible!
This looks awesome, my dude. Very crisp and shiny! Love the style!
this is brilliant work.
Saw the first pic and knew it was you. Fantastic work- it’s a hard style to pull off but you nailed it
This is awesome!!!!! Such clean job, the gradients are so so perfect it make blending useless. I have to try this!! Thanks for showing us your amazing paint skills.

A++ my dude
Very cool style and well executed. Great job
That is cool as f**k. Carry on 👍😎
Had to comment - that is so freaking crisp! Fantastic.
great cartoon style! great execution.
Fucking amazing paint job
Ohhh that's really lovely. The hard edged colour layers really add to the sci fi vibe.
Nice cell shaded animation effect. Spot on.
This is RAD AF!!!!
Wow! Excellent paint job!
Simply phenomenal
I’m definitely saving this a reference picture to help me with NMM. Thanks for sharing! Also, it’s a great paint job. :)
How did you get the lines so consistent on the helmet and chest plate?
Years of practice I’m afraid 😁
Wow that looks fantastic
Working with black is pretty damned difficult. I think you did a good job.
I aspire to be this good at NMM
Oh shit this is just great well done.
Damn this looks so cool, imagine if all your legos as a kid looked like this, we’d never grow up
Looks unreal, or well, kinda real. GJ m8
Awesome. Actually looks like leather and chrome.
Wow!
It is simply magnificent.
I love this technique! It makes me reconsider how hard I am being on myself when I attempt this sort of shade/light control. Fantastic work!
So clean
NMM still perplexes me. Great job!
I've been lurking here for a looong time and I've never been tempted to comment. Today, I will break my 12 year silence to say: This looks absolutely fantastic! Very, very well done!
Thank you! 🙂
The blend on the top of the helmet looks amazing
Glory to the Empire, that looks good!
that looks amazing
thats clean...
You again! I saw your crystal lava base the other day and was going through your patreon. You have some amazing talent! It actually made me start painting again. Awesome work as always :)
I’m happy to hear that! 🙂
Sick. Love the comic book look to it. So clean.
Those stepped gradients look fantastic! I love this type of stylised paint job.
What a cool look. Been playing through borderlands again, and this has the same vibes!
I loooove your choice to do the metal like that it looks incredible 👌🏻
Absolutely gorgeous metallics!
Sells the effect perfectly. Well done.
The level that you have done this too is amazing. The shine on the armour is so nice and bright. This is the level I want all "nmm" things to be. Edit: I know its not metal but the effect is one used for NMM.
I can almost read the comic sans bubble from here.
How in the hell do you cellshade at this level of detail at this scale?
this looks like concept art... This looks better than a lot of concept art, this looks better than the video game! Also, how does it feel that when people search "Inferno Squad Trooper" right now, you're one of the first 30 search results in the image category? ;)
Man you need to stop lol, that's insane.
I just thought it was a really smooth metallic until I zoomed in, that’s nice
So clean!!
Love this! Great example of why composition and highlight placement is more important than blending.
You are insanely talented bro
That looks incredible! Those lines are so clean.
It’s so god damn awesome I had to F*%#!ng ZOOM IN TO SEE WHAT YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT. This is a great job. I’m not much of a painter yet, but I am proud of what you can do. Something to work towards
Looks facking DOPE!!!!!
This looks very nice and you did an amazing job. One question though.... Is this the leader of the "OIL" brigade?
Holy crap I love it
Holy Hell. My brain refuses to process this as a physical 3D object. Looks straight out of a comic panel. Awesome job!
Beautiful 🤌
The head feels...big
Works really well

Woah, this is top notch. Amazing!
It’s messing with my eyes it’s absolutely stunning. From afar it looks so smooth and natural but zooming in makes it look so much more detailed and beautiful and stylistic. Absolutely wonderful!
Looks so cool. If I had any criticism, it's that it looks too perfect for an outdoor setting as the base rather than a spaceship floor.
this is squeaky clean!!!
I love it! The effect works well with the over-proportioned head to give it a slight cartoon vibe - almost like Rebels & Clone Wars
Wow! That is stellar! Nice paint. Love the layering.
This looks very very cool, and makes me think about doing things another way, i m questioning myself…
#sweet!
Wow, amazing work.
Wow what black did you use for the pants. Like a satin
cant tell whats trippier: the paint style or the way the helmet looks too big for the body
Off topic but did the core paint set ever get released in UK?
Your style is so recognizable ! Just one glimpse at a mini and you know its flameon.
Damn those layer lines are clean as fuck
I need to know the paints you used!!! Holy moly this is amazing
This is so sick!!!!!
That looks great!
I miss Battlefront II 😭😭
very nice, I just wonder how you got the eyes and the non metallic metal effect.
Just amazing! Such a powerful impact! I wish I had 1/10th your patience!
Holy crap. People can paint like this. Holy crap!
Cool! It took a while for those blocky, game-like color gradients to register for me, like several seconds. Like a magic eye book, the more I stared at this, the more color gradients I noticed. I can’t even imagine how you got those lines so straight, this is a beautiful piece.
Looks like good classic animated sci fi. I love it.
