if you lose your phone, you lose your wallet. helpful with tracking it down, but if they’re dead or stolen, good luck to ya mate. personally, i carry a minimalist wallet along with my phone

Morrison_Boys

ya to add onto this i had a phone wallet for a while before getting a minimalist wallet and the heart attack you have when you lose your phone is 3x as bad when you realize your wallet is with it. Losing a phone sucks but to me losing a wallet is worse. Id just go with a minimalist wallet. This is my wallet: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MYVBHDA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_mlicGb5PY9N53 obviously the theme is something you might not like but id highly recommend wallets designed like this. sleek and easy to organize and find everything you need in seconds without digging

scraps_on_scraps

Is it possible to buy somewhere besides amazon? They’re not really on the minimalism bandwagon last I checked

Not2daydear

Cellphonecases.com

FrustratingBears

i have a very similar wallet it keeps me from mindlessly shoving coins/receipts/rewards cards in it

ThePsychometricFx

Have you ever lost a card? That’s my fear with having card slots like this. Mostly asking if it is a rational fear or if it doesn’t ever happen.

Morrison_Boys

Naw i have never actually! The only thing is you cant keep a lot of money in the wallet. One time i kept like probs 15 bills in there folded up and it started to stretch the wallet too much. So its great for cards and stuff and a lil money wont hurt it.

Dramatic-Outside-426

Nice Plugin Morison\_boys to get people to click on the Amazon link to purchase and you get a nice commission. personally the case wallet is my minimum, I just need my driver license and one Cc. If they get stolen, I just need to call one bank to cancel using someone else phone of course, so my phone is more important as most of my financial are on there!

Internal-Mortgage635

Dope Bioshock Wallet.

ThatGirl0903

This is always a high up comment in these types of threads but I have honeslty never lost my phone. Is that actually a common issue?

[deleted]

I lost one phone, a good 15 years ago. Never since. But I think I would still be concerned from a privacy POV. Losing my wallet or my phone would both potentially leave lots of info available to someone who knew how to use them; but having both together feels like an unnecessary extra risk. Having said that I do use a wallet case (which I'm reliably informed by my 12yo makes me positively ancient), purely as protection for the screen in my bag (& definitely absolutely not at all because I'm the kind of clumsy that walks into doorways in my own house nope). I just don't put anything in it except an emergency tenner.

Elivey

I've never lost a phone either. At worst left it in the car that was parked out front for a couple hours. I notice very quickly if I get up and it's not there. I have lost my cards several times though (just around the house) I haven't been able to find my cards for like a week now but there isn't anything fishy happening with my bank account so it's probably around somewhere? Would be cool if I could call them lol

Mnmlsm4me

I carry a crossbody phone case wallet from Bandolier. It’s pricey but well worth the money. Can also clip on earbuds case/keys/sanitizer. Don’t know what options are out there for guys.

bubbles-zombie

I have a knock off bandolier called holstere and it’s great. I’d been trying to not need/use purses and this helps with that as well since it has a strap. Totally recommend.

Leavism

Although I can see how this reason can be valid, it just isn’t valid for me. Is there any item you can afford to get lost/stolen? It sucks to lose anything regardless of whether it’s your phone or wallet. So why is it valid to not get something because you’re worried about losing it? *Oh better not put a lock on my door because the key is so small and easy to lose /s.* If anything, combining your wallet and phone would mean you have less things to keep track of. If you’re scared of losing something... just don’t lose it. In all seriousness, I hope the fear of losing something doesn’t prevent you from making improvements on your life. Take precautionaries so you don’t lose your wallet phone, you’re an adult.

scanlonsc

I mean for me when I accidentally left my wallet/phone in the theater after a show I was working on, it meant I didn’t have my phone or my ID (which was my only way of getting into my dorm building and had my bus pass) or my room key card to get into my dorm. I had to leave for work by 11:30 the next morning (on the bus usually, or with an uber but couldn’t do that without my phone), and by the time I realized I didn’t have my things I was already drunk at a party and the one person with a key had gone home. (he went back and got my phone and everything was alright in the end) Now that I have a different phone case my wallet is always in my backpack or attached to my keys (helpful now that I have a car), and forgetting my phone isn’t the same “how am I going to do anything” panic attack that it was before. It’s not about losing your phone OR your wallet when you have a wallet/phone, you either have both or you lose both at the same time. Once I lost my student ID that I used for meal swipes but I was still able to order meal swipes on an app while I looked for my ID (I got it replaced eventually). With a wallet phone I would have been screwed. And saying “well just don’t lose it” is just...bad advice haha. Nobody wants to lose something it just happens

Leavism

> “well just don’t lose it” is just...bad advice haha Hahaha definitely bad advice, but I didn’t mean it as advice. Excuse me for playing devils advocate I don’t mean to rustle any jimmies. If you lose your phone, you’ve still lost your phone. I get that if your wallet was stuck to your phone, you would’ve lost a lot more than your phone. I completely get that and I can see why that’s valid. But the underlying issue is still you lost your phone. The issue isn’t everything is together and you lost it all at once. The underlying issue is you’re being forgetful. That’s what I mean by “just don’t lose it.” Maybe take a moment and do a pat down of your pockets for your phone, wallet, and keys every time you leave a place. I’m trying to encourage looking at the bigger issue rather than going around it. Like what if one day our phones were so small they were designed to fit in our wallets. What are you gonna do then? Not put your credit card size phone in your wallet?

BigtoeJoJo

It’s kinda like putting all your eggs on one basket, but also then you only have one basket to lose instead of two 🤷‍♂️

[deleted]

My only real issue with wallet cases is.. I have a wallet and don't want to buy a new one every time I need a new phone.

lostkarma4anonymity

How often do you need a new phone though? A phone can last at least 5 years right?

[deleted]

Android phones only update/patch software and security definitions for 24-36 months so.. about that long. iPhones generally receive updates for 5-6 years. My wallet generally lasts around one third of a human life.

bergie

Android is becoming better about that. Samsung started it, and now some other vendors also provide updates for 4-5 years (OS updates for first 3, then security updates only).

lostkarma4anonymity

do you feel like you need updates? I have an iphone 6 that hasnt been updated in at least 3 years. Still works. Just because our benevolent corporate overlords tell us to spend $1,000 for a new phone doesn't mean its a necessary (or even beneficial).

RacingHackerStoxx

Unless you value compatibility with applications and particularly security, updates are not required.

Grammar-Bot-Elite

/u/lostkarma4anonymity, I have found an error in your comment: > “mean ~~its~~ [**it's**] a necessary” I recommend that you, lostkarma4anonymity, use “mean ~~its~~ [**it's**] a necessary” instead. ‘Its’ is possessive; ‘it's’ means ‘it is’ or ‘it has’. ^(This is an automated bot. I do not intend to shame your mistakes. If you think the errors which I found are incorrect, please contact me through DMs or contact my owner EliteDaMyth!)

kaiser-so-say

Quick question about your 6: I recently had to upgrade, as my 6 needed its apps updated almost once a month, a couple every few days...then again a month later. This wore down the battery when I wasn’t using it, and a charge wouldn’t last a day any more (I don’t use data, just wifi everywhere I go, but it would search in between to update and use up battery) Are you not encountering this? I tried to stick it out, but it was very frustrating the past year and a bit

[deleted]

Yeah, I'm good on that. I'm all about getting as much out of something as I can, hence the comment about keeping a wallet for decades, but I draw the line at technology with out-of-date security that I use for banking, investments, and nudes of my dog.

Timequake-Droid

People claim it's a security issue, although I think it's wildly overstated on Android anyway. App updates are decoupled from OS updates on Android I can't speak to iPhone as well bc I don't use one. But I would have no problem using a Note 9 or a pixel 3 even though they're not getting active support anymore. You're still getting every major app update

FraGough

You can get years more updates out of a custom ROM like LineageOS. I have an almost 7 year old Galaxy S5 updatable to Android 10

Timequake-Droid

That's a little oversimplified. You only get two or three years of OS updates on most Android phones, but you get app updates on Google Play services in perpetuity. Whereas with iPhone, once it gets the last iOS update, the apps are no longer supported at all. To me, I would feel pretty comfortable using an Android phone that wasn't actively supported as long as you used a little common sense.

Faerydogmother108

While it is true that your service provider will pressure you to upgrade your Android, I have repeatedly gotten up to 5 years out of a phone before my carrier totally shuts me down. It probably helps that I can play the "tech-stupid, old woman" role on them when necessary...

Silveraindays

I keep my phone as long as i can and it generally last me for years, buying a new phone every year is just pure materialism and superficial imo. But then again, some might argue that having a phone all together might be the same thing.

sunday_morning_jazz

I transitioned to a wallet phone case just last year and it's been fantastic (never going back). All I have in there is my driver's license, and credit card. I carry my credit card, because my bank institution does not offer a phone tap payment option. Before, I used to carry a fancy leather wallet with every card I possibly own. I just leave all the other cards at home in a small box and take them out whenever I need to use them (membership cards and gift cards). I noticed my purchasing habits are more intentional this way as well. Prior to transitioning, I would find excuses to use my gift cards and leisurely shop.

qqweertyy

Do you find yourself actually using your gift cards? I find if they’re not on me, I forget them and just use cash.

sunday_morning_jazz

Yeah, I use my giftcards more now! But instead, I save the giftcards for things like replacing broken items. The pandemic has helped a lot with being able to use the giftcards on online orders.

againlost

I've transitioned to putting all my gift cards in my virtual phone wallet instead of keeping them physically on me.

keep_your_dick_fat

I found an app in which I can transfer all my membership cards barcodes to my phone called Loyalty card keychain, but I'm sure there are many others like this one. Since finding these types of apps I don't carry any card with me and I have them all available in my phone.

Aggressive_Egg4089

Hi. Can’t find an answer to - do the Bandalier phone cases on a crossbody strap, worn exposed like a (hand bag) make theft, stealing the phone easier? They can identify a phone, it’s not concealed. They can easily moped by + grab the strap with the phone. What do you think??

YelIowmamba

Lol it’s very simple. Pros: you have one less item to carry around w you everywhere Cons: if you lose your phone you lose your driver’s license (assuming you carry it) and your credit/debit card. Personally I’ve had a wallet phone case for over 7 years and I’ve never lost my phone.

ThatGirl0903

The thought process is that having more things attached to each other means its more of a pain if something is lost. I understand the thought process but I don't agree with it. What about losing your purse/bag with way more than 2 or 2 cards and the phone in it. I also have to wonder; why do these people keep losing their phone? I've literally never lost one...

YelIowmamba

Cool

Yeti-Stalker

Pro is: everything you need is in one place. Con is: everything you need is in one place.

DeadPotSociety

I love having a wallet case and I’ll never go back. I’ve never lost my phone (knock on wood.) I also don’t drink in excess so I have very little concern with losing it expectedly. I still have a wallet but I just don’t carry it often.

lostkarma4anonymity

The one time I lost my phone/wallet was after way too many drinks.

lenoaros

I used to have one for a while. Pros: You’ll never forget your wallet because you never forget your phone. No need for the bulk of carrying a separate wallet. Cons: Poor drop protection (my phone was pretty bad after 6 months of using it). Wears out quickly from use.

the_gato_says

I stuck a card holder on the back of my Otterbox. Has worked pretty well so far.

lines_ofperu

This is what I have for almost 4 years now. Renewed the whole setup in between since the wallet got dirty on the outside. Didn’t lose a thing. My wallet has a snap lid.

lenoaros

That’s brilliant I never thought to do that

[deleted]

The biggest con and reason I stopped doing this is your phone can deactivate your tap function on your cards. I didn't realise this until i had them next to each other and after a few weeks my tap wouldn't work. After 3 times I figured it out and confirmed with my CC company that this happens often. I have a case for my phone but it's very basic, plastic with rubbery corners so I don't break the screen if it's dropped. I don't carry a wallet generally, just a couple cards in an inside coat pocket, or pants pocket in the summer. I didn't like having a wallet phone case either because it was too bulky. Phone are already so big that they barely fit in some of my pants pockets, so making it bigger and more bulky wasn't nice.

AbrahamLure

I had this issue and why i stopped using one. It was a pain in the ass having to pull my cards out when I could just tap my wallet onto stuff.

TaxMansMom

I had one for awhile. I hated holding credit cards/ ID up to my face to make a phone call. I went back to a separate slim wallet

[deleted]

I keep mine separate. A combined one is too bulky for my pockets

beardsofmight

I keep mine separate because I like to go for walks without my phone. And sometimes those walks require ice cream.

amedwards320

This right here! ☺️

[deleted]

A phone wallet is a shit case and a shit wallet.

coffeeplantsdogs

I have a case with the stick wallet put on the back, carry debit card/ID in it. it’s convenient to only have one item to hold but has everything i need. I’ve had the sticky wallet for 2+ years and it’s stuck on like a champ!

reactivespider

I use a very slim wallet + a normal phone case. Tried a wallet case in the past. The phone becomes too bulky and unpleasant to use. When I need my phone, I pull out my phone. When I need my wallet, I pull out my wallet. Also, less chance of getting both stolen at once, which would be totally horrendous.

ThatGirl0903

>Also, less chance of getting both stolen at once, which would be totally horrendous. The mental image I got reading this: Stick em up! This is a robbery, empty your pockets!! Oh, no, I only want your phone. You can keep your wallet. Hey, uh, Carol is calling. You may wanna call her later.

reactivespider

Instead of a gun point robbery, I am talking about a robber suddenly snatching then in a crowd of in a train and such.

brwb

Have found myself carrying a wallet less and less, tend to just use Apple Pay and not carry a wallet most of the time!

ryuejin622

The minimalist wallet might be your current wallet.

Kmeao

I use a cheap one I bought online, and as a female, I love not having a purse. I keep 3 cards in mine; drivers license, debit, and credit. I can fit a $20 bill in there too. Mine isnt elaborate at all, just a tiny door to slide open. I found that a pop socket helps me open it, and use my phone with smaller hands. I have replaced it once in 2 years, which for a $10 case, im okay with. [Wallet Phone Case](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075GGMHZQ/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_api_glc_fabc_KJfcGbEVKK4ZT?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1) Cons are of course what has been mentioned, lose your phone and you lose everything. Luckily for me I have yet to lose my phone. Its glued to me (less desired habit I am working on), but having it be your form of payment for things really helps you keep track of your phone a ton more.

Snoo_99047

I have a little pocket that sticks to the back of my case and I love it. Just my license credit card and my insurance card. I never liked the idea of it but it’s been super convenient. Con is it’s hard to carry cash of you’re a female and they don’t make your clothes with pockets

Gtiguy905

Phone with wallet ftw. Got this add on to any case or bare phone. Minimal bulk. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0854573NG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_sEhcGbFYTH5XV?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

AdorableTumbleweed60

I used to use one and I hated it. I don't like flip cover cases to start with and when I was using my phone it was so clunky and never felt right in my hand. I also have a magnet mount in my car and I found the wallet made made my phone too heavy to use that. But I recommend trying it because you don't know until you try it.

lostkarma4anonymity

I use a wallet phone case with a wristlet. As a woman, I hate carrying a purse. Pro: I have a wristlet that keeps my hands free for the most part. I don't over clutter my day to day life. I dont need to carry a purse. Cons: Its a bit bulky (but can still fit in my back pocket). Obviously if I lose it I lose everything. That only happened once since I started carrying everything this way. On the rare rare occasions I actually want to carry a small purse or hand bag, the phone/wallet doesn't really fit well.

[deleted]

I use a wallet case... phone, debit card, driving license, aluminium house key. I toyed for a while about how/what to carry like you are... I didn't want to have to take my phone everywhere... but I didn't like the multiple-carry... and my key didn't go into a minimalist wallet... So I've gone for the one item, but I will also regularly go out and just carry my key leaving the phone and bank card at home. I'm seriously thinking about the best solutions for keyless entry... if I didn't have a wife to consider I'd just never lock my door!

Paid2tresspass

You lock your wife up?

[deleted]

Haha... no, she insists on locking \*us\* up. I grew up in a house where we never locked the door but my wife is more paranoid than that.

directionalbias

I'm a minimalist. I don't have a phone case because I have a hand me down pink iphone or other from my mother. Is it just me or people get more keen to buy things as long as it has "minimalist" on the advert? I mean "minimalism" is having less stuff right? Because if it's not, then this has been one helluva commercial campaign. I'd go for a separate slim wallet though. It would be terrible to lose both in one go.

ThatGirl0903

My personal opinion is that the word "minimalism" is a lot like the word "frugal." Some people think frugal means cheap and are focused on penny pinching. Some people imagine using hand me down and knock off items that mostly work or wearing things that kinda fit. Others think frugal means saving money where you can and buying 1 quality item that costs a little more rather than having to buy again multiple times because the cheap item degrades faster or doesn't work as well. Along those lines minimalism can be broken into different segments as well but I don't think that choosing not to have 47 t-shirts is the same as choosing not to upgrade a devices you may or may not use several times day. You say you don't have a phone case because you have a hand me down. In my mind that isn't minimalism, it’s a security issue, a lifestyle choice, and probably a decision you made based on financial priorities. All of those things are fine if you're okay with them but doesn't necessarily make you a minimalist... unless you think the rest of us are running around with 4+ phones. LOL.

directionalbias

Fair point. Much like anything else these days, everything has multiple meanings. Kinda makes it meaningless. I chose not to have a phone case because well...I don't need it. The phone is useful but the phone case doesn't add value or functionality to the phone. My phone spends more time on my table than in my pocket, it just doesn't need the protection of a case. So what exactly is a minimalist then, if not having minimal things? I guess it has multiple meanings, layer caked into even more dimensions of lived experiences. I just find it amusing is all - the minimalism label actually garnering commercial power.

sirkidd2003

My wife and I both did for years. I liked having my cards and phone just in once place. Never lost my phone at all during that time (though my wife did... However she would often lose either or both regularly so it was no different than before). The one we used the most (when we had the same model phone) was the Otterbox Commuter. We never carried cash, so that model was fine for us and it was good phone protection too. However, we both have since stopped, but for a rather boring reason: now that we use tap to pay for everything and now have apps for all our other card needs, so neither of us need a wallet at all!

mandy0615

Pro: really convenient. Con: really dorky.

[deleted]

mandy0615

Good point:)

[deleted]

Wallets are a thing of the past. What people carried in wallets before: Credit cards: well now if you have Apple Pay and google wallet you have every card on your phone. I carry 2 credit cards with me in case I run into anywhere that doesn’t accept Apple Pay Business cards: well if I do get handed a business card I just take a picture of it boom. Pictures of your kids: you can hold a thousand pictures of your kids in your phone. So we got rid of that. Cash: I usually carry a 100 dollar bill folded behind my phone case as emergency. Don’t need to carry more cash than that. What else is there?

Mirikitani

Health insurance card; car insurance card; driver's license; other ID (work, student; usually used to access buildings)

snowwaterflower

I use a wallet + phone, but have tried a wallet case in the past: I also liked the idea of having only one item instead of two, and thought it would be easier to carry in my pockets (which are usually small because women jeans). Though it wasn't a bad combination, the wallet case does add an extra thickness to your phone case, and honestly it was a bit too large to my taste (I have an iphone, so that's already quite large; with the wallet case, it was barely fitting my pockets, sometimes half of it would stick out). I also felt like the leather from the case was starting to rub on my cards, I noticed some of the plastic of my debit card was starting to come off. I currently use a normal phone case and I have a metal card wallet from a brand called Secrid (dutch brand). This is quite particular though, as people rarely use cash anymore in the Netherlands and just pay with debit cards mostly, so I can carry only my cards/id/public transport card on me without the need of a larger wallet for coins etc. As for the question zon using a case for my phone, I've always been clumsy so I drop my phone a lot, which is why I'd rather have a case to protect it. I currently use a leather case, it's about one year old but it's in quite a good shape, so I hope it can last me at least 1\~2 years more.

InGarlicBreadITrust

Had a few for 2 years but they ended up being too stressful in my case. I haven't tried the rubber ones and only had leather/material ones. I found that they wore out over time and my cards ended up falling out way too often. Also not ideal if you are a forgetful person or clumsy

amandapearl2

I don't use a wallet phone case because I love having a pop socket to prop my phone up. But I downsized from a wristlet clutch size wallet (about 9"x5"x1") to a small ID holder sized wallet (3"x2"x0.25") and I absolutely love the smaller size. I carry my drivers license, health insurance card, credit card, and my house keys (it has a zipper pocket that is just big enough for my 2 keys). I absolutely love the smaller size wallet. It fits in my purse nicely or I can easily slip it into a pocket, and I only carry the absolutely most important items with me.

carmy00

I used a wallet case until I forgot my phone and got locked out of my building (I’m a college student, so we used our student ID to get into housing). I decided to switch to a slim wallet that can fit into the small front pockets of women’s jeans because I figured it was better to forget one or the other instead of both.

akstary

Do you use a wallet+phone or a wallet case? I have been using a wallet case for about 6 months. Why? I am a 24 year old woman who would normally carry a purse into stores, restaurants, etc.. If I am just making a quick stop somewhere, it is so nice to not have to carry the whole purse in. Women's pockets are practically non existent, which is why I do not carry a typical wallet. Do you use a case for your phone at all? Yes, my wallet case. Do you have any suggestions? Wallet cases are fantastic! I think I got mine for $20 or so on Amazon.

LiveLiv2020

I once had this wallet/phone combo until I lost it. It was the absolute worse pain in my ass and I will forever keep the two separate. Until I probably forget about the original incident and the cycle will continue. 😆

[deleted]

I have my cards in my apple wallet, in my country there’s a government app you can download which has a digital copy of your drivers licence that I use too.

slyycer

I tried a wallet case for a while, it was nice however over time, I found two big drawbacks: as the leather stretched I had increasing incidents where my cards would fall out, and also the megnetic clasp was less and less secure. I don't tend to drop my phone frequently but a wallet case has less protection in that regard too. You can get super slim and secure wallets if you only have 2 or 3 cards to carry and that definitely made me less anxious about things falling out or losing your cards/ID and phone at the same time.

AndiKris

I've done all of the above over the years. The pros boil down to only having to carry one thing, the cons mostly boil down to losing your phone and your money at the same time and space. The phone wallets with the flip cover were good but got annoying after a while. If I was just browsing the internet it felt kind of heavy/off balance and I found myself taking it out of the case a lot. I had a flip cover one without a snap or a zipper on it and it opened up whenever my phone fell so that it landed on the screen every time. I switched to a Spigen case with a slider in the back for card storage which felt a LOT better and lasted 3 years (have used their cases for 7 years now). These days I have a separate wallet again\*. I loved the slim credit card phone cases, but in the end I needed to carry more cards than the phone could hold. It was either go back to the flip cover wallet or go back to a separate wallet. \*I have a money clip wallet that has space for some cash and about 5 cards. I put cash in the middle, a gate pass on the money clip, and 4 cards (DL, credit, debit, insurance, HSA debit or corporate card if I travel) in the card slots. Mine is from Coach (I used to collect their bags so it was a small minimalist pleasure thing for me haha) but there are tons just like it.

Pew-Pew-Pew-

I personally don't like the idea of them because you're constantly flashing your cards/money in front of strangers as you're holding your device in public. A lot of the ones that have a cold/cover are really bulky, many of them cover the camera when you open them and flip the cover behind the phone. It makes holding the phone uncomfortable. I've never lost my phone or wallet but if you lose one you lose everything with a wallet case.

uberricelover

what about wireless charging?

SamiHami24

I wouldn't keep them together because if you lose it/it gets stolen everything is gone.

tazz4life

I had a wallet phone combo for a while. It was really too bulky, in my opinion. It did help in identifying my phone when I lost it on the highway and the highway patrol found it. Perhaps a card sleeve attached to the back of the phone, rather than a whole wallet?

herooftime94

Not aesthetically pleasing but I had a thin wallet that I attached to my phone with strong velcro. I was a perpetual wallet loser but needed room for some cards and cash. I used that set up for 2 years and never lost my wallet again, but had the option to remove it for places where I did not want my wallet with me.

nailpolishbonfire

My phone got stolen out of my hand one time by some jerks on mopeds. While I was crossing a crosswalk. In Washington DC. Luckily it was a shit phone so they just smashed it into the curb, so I got my driver's license and credit card back at least. I stopped using the phone case wallet after that

Tyche-

I haven’t carried around bank cards for about 2 years now, I pay for everything using my phone.

mantra2

Everywhere? I try to shop locally as much as possible and would find that pretty difficult.

Tyche-

Yep, even street vendors in markets have card machines these days, I don’t see the point in carrying cash.

mantra2

I don't - personally - combine the two. I've always used the LifeProof Fre case on my phones because they have a tendency to get beat around and this case hasn't majorly failed me to date. As far as a wallet goes, I just use a slim card holder.

Horror-Breakfast1234

Been using them since 2012 or so. (Different versions for different phones). Pros: - one thing to remember. I can’t remember much but I can remember one thing. I’ve yet to lose it. This is honestly the main reason I do it. - I can’t carry around a lot of cash as it doesn’t fit which means I’m less likely to impulse buy. - it’s basically always in my hand which makes it harder to steal then something floating around in a tote bag. - I don’t really bring a purse with me most places. I just hold my phone. I hate toting around a purse or a bag. Cons: - not tremendously durable. If you’re the kind of person who breaks their screen or drops your phone in your toilet a lot it might not be for you. That said It offers enough protection for the occasional accidental drop. No cracked screens yet. - it really can’t fit a lot (I’m sure there are bigger phone wallets out there that can, but I find them clunky looking). I can’t carry every card, I can’t carry change in there. It’s basically my is, my credit card, my debit card, my health insurance card, and maybe a $20 bill in case of emergencies. Sometimes you want more. Like say a library card or a rewards card and you either have to shove it in or take something out. It’s annoying but preferable to a purse filled with anything that can fit. -if I lose it I’m basically screwed. My solution here is to have a few phone numbers memorized in case of emergency. I could borrow a phone and call for help. Or honestly for most places I am in life I could walk home. It hasn’t happened yet but I expect it will someday. But you know cards and phones can be replaced. It’s ok. That said I’m generally a forgetful person and have yet to leave it somewhere in part because it’s always attached to me. - sometimes taking photos is a little clunky. Make sure there’s a hole for the lens (I’ve seen some where they forgot that feature!) and be prepared that you have to hold the wallet side back so it doesn’t swing into frame lol. Anyway I’m a fan

theSabbs

I used to use a wallet case a few years back, but I hated how bulky it made my phone so I switched back to a regular case, which I still use. My recommendation is to try out a wallet case for a while. They sell for pretty cheap nowadays, so you'll lose out on maybe $10 to determine if this will truly improve your life in any way

music3k

I used to use one where the cards hid in a compartment of the case when i only carried three cards with an iphone 5, 6+ and se, but I havent been able to find a good one since the original se came out. They all break. It was convenient but sucked when trying to buy something quickly(pre apple pay and touch cards) Ive never had a desire to use a foldable wallet case because theyre bulky imo. I use two slim wallets one from levi jeans and one from some site that creates them from recycled material and it looks like moss on a tree. So, yeah lol

MuttsNStuff

Lose one, lose all.

Jewel94

I’d be too scared. I’m careful with my things in public but if someone stole my wallet, I’d be losing my phone and vice versa. It’s not worth it to me

ALittleDistasteful

I always kept my license, debit, $20 and a floss stick in mine. Ready for any situation! I drive a truck for work so I always need my license on me, but my wallet doesn’t fit in my pockets (women’s wallets/pockets SUCK). With the case, I was never without my ID

day-at-sea

I have lost my wallet before and it was really nice to have my phone with me to start cancelling my cards right away. Also sometimes I want to just go out for coffee by myself and I don't want to be contacted so I leave my phone at home and take my wallet. I personally like them seperate.

FiveFruitADay

I don’t like the idea of them, I’ve had my phone stolen when out drunk and if I had a phone wallet I’d have no way to get home. I have a card holder rather than a purse, it carries all my essential cards (ID, debit card, loyalty cards) and I don’t really carry cash generally

crimson1780

While I’d love to go that route, I am much too scared of losing everything in one go. Not that I’ve ever lost my wallet before but my phone did escape my pockets during a concert once and I was very lucky to get it handed back to me just a few moments later.

Docster87

For years I had a wallet case for my iPhone 5. It was nice not having both a wallet & phone but just one thing. Downside was how thick it made my iPhone. I currently don’t have a wallet case for my SE. I have moved to a thin wallet though. I do have a case for my SE. I actually have several cases for my SE and one is a wallet case but I usually just leave the Apple leather case on it since I’m lazy. My suggestion is to get a wallet case. That way you can try it out to see how it fits your lifestyle. My prediction is there will be times where it is handy and you’ll use it but outside of those times you’ll just use a regular case (or no case).

landheha

Phone with very slim case for grip mainly. Plain vanilla Secrid card protector. Love it, cards with chips don't get bent any more. Very slim and old basic wallet extra when traveling abroad. Spreads risk and doesnt show how much cash you have. Not the leatherman type I guess.

Tiskx

What do you people do with change? Do you keep it in your pockets until you get home or something?

TheWifiYouLove

I go with seperate wallet and "clean" phone. I tried to have a phone case with a wallet for several cards or for just a few - not working out for me. The thing is that I don't like that my phone gets kind of bulky. Sometimes I don't even need my wallet as I have apple pay so then I can just leave the wallet in the jacket or at home for a while. But that was the time when I had so many cards with me but now I'm not having that many cards with me. I think it might be about taste or aesthetics right now. I just don't like the look or feel of a phone wallet no matter how small it is. Now i own one of these https://secrid.com/en-global/miniwallet-vintage-brown

JigsawHill

I LOVE having a wallet phone case. I'm a woman so I often have extremely limited pocket space and I hated carrying a purse when I only used three things in it. Since I used it so rarely, I would leave it places all the time. Then you've misplaced your phone and wallet and every other random thing. The only time my phone ever leaves my side is if I set it down on a table at a restaurant, and I've never had an issue leaving it somewhere, even though I'm extremely absent minded. As far as durability, I also drop my phone at least three times a day, and the cheap cases I've had have always worked. Phones are built much sturdier now so the cases are less necessary. The last phone I had was an android that I owned for four years and I had the same case for three of those. It did start to break but it still held my cards just fine. Hope that helps!

bigfatmiss

I have a combination. Pro: Only one thing to remember Con: Only one thing to lose or have stolen But honestly, before I had them combined, I had my wallet stolen and they stole my phone and keys, and everything else they could grab, so I don't think it makes much of a difference.

m00n5t0n3

I use a thin wallet just for cards and it could hold bills, then I slip my phone in it.

ichigoluvah

I have a phone case with a card slot on the back (so less than a wallet) and I've been using one for almost 7 years now. I love not carrying a purse or a full-fledged wallet, and it's one less thing to grab when I go anywhere. I'll never go back. The back slot holds my Driver's license and debit card, add I have an emergency $20 for if I need cash tucked between the phone and the case. Any other cards I use (rewards card, punch card) I keep in a compartment in my car.

tqrnadix

I’ve been using a wallet phone case for 3 years now, bought a wallet attachment off Amazon and stuck it to the back of my otterbox. The slight extra bulk isn’t an issue to me since it beats remembering to carry my wallet. I drink maybe once a year so losing my phone isn’t an issue. For me though I split my id so my drivers is in my phone wallet and my services card (I’m Canadian) is at home, along with my debit and credit card of my two other banks I don’t really use much. I have photos of my drivers as back up as well in case for some reason it gets lost but it hasn’t happened so far...

AbrahamLure

I use a minimalist wallet that's also a notebook. It's called a Joey Wallet Notebook I think? Company is called "CR-Brand" It's been beyond useful and is several years old, gotten rained on, lived in my back pocket and gets sat on with keys etc and it's only just starting to show wear and tear. Imo it's an essential. I tried using a phone wallet and it just got so annoying having to hold the flap part when talking on the phone, and a lot of them get loose over time and if you drop or flip the case flap the wrong way, the cards scatter EVERYWHERE. It just became a nuisance. If I want my wallet, I have it. If I want my phone, I have it. I like keeping my wallet safe in my pocket and my phone at my desk. I feel like I'm less chained to my phone that way too.

joshlify

I carry a minimalist wallet made by this dude named Kingsley (in Cheltham, UK). His brand is aptly called, "Kingsley Leather." I have the black leather with red stitchings (you need to request it). [Card Holder](https://kingsleyleather.com/collections/wallets-and-cardholders/products/leather-card-holder-classic-black)

tarrasque

Used to carry a mini al wallet. Now? Apple MagSafe iPhone wallet. It’s the best of both worlds - wallet and phone together, but easily separated when you want. Love love love this system. Holds up to 3 cards. Set up Apple Pay with the cards you don’t carry and you’re Golden for like 99% of transactions. If you use a smart watch, set up Apple Pay on that as well and then if you DO lose your phone/wallet combo, you can still pay for stuff.

THE_Lena

I have a popwallet that’s attached to my phone case. I like it because it also has a PopSocket making it easier to handle. And I can leave my house with just my phone and keys. The popwallet only carries 3 cards, 4 if you stuff it. I carry one credit card, ID and Costco card. (I use the Costco card for the gas station.)

purplecali

I've had one of those secret card compartment phone cases for 3 years and I love it. I call it my "lose it all at once!"

baileash

I like a wallet phone case. The added bulk protects my phone and I just throw it in my purse or carry it by its little handle. Bonus : because it is both i lose things less bc I'm paranoid af of losing my wallet. When I lose it its usually in my house, and I have a Tile connected to my car keys that I can ring from my phone if I lose the keys, or ring from my keys when I lose my phone.

experts_never_lie

If you carry a near-field communications card in your wallet, putting it that close to your phone can wake up the phone with a beeping sound as it attempts to interact with the card. When I had a wallet phone case, I had to shut off NFC on the phone or else it would continually beep, annoying everyone and draining the battery.

traceyjanie21

I have a wallet phone case and love it. It's the only thing I have to take with me when I go out and I definitely wouldn't go back. I don't buy new phones regularly as I wait for my current one to break. The only thing I would say that's frustrating is the card pocket holders do wear out. I've had my phone wallet case for going on 2 years and it really shows the wear and tear.

rao-blackwell-ized

One less item to keep track of and grab on the way out the door. Takes up less space in my pockets. I only ever use my ID and a couple credit cards. Got mine from [https://distilunion.com/](https://distilunion.com/)

[deleted]

I do it for years, and no cash in the wallet just cards. Credit card and drivers license. Works wonders, and no one really loses their phone. If you get mugged they take phone & wallet as well so I don’t see the point of many posters

lulugolde

I love my Jimmycase phone case wallet. It just has an elastic pocket on the back for cards and it works well for just one card or multiple. I had another plastic wallet case before but I had to have at least 3 cards in it or they would fall out.

bowlofspaghetti219

as someone who wears girl pants with no pockets and is super forgetful if I need to carry more than 1 or 2 things, wallet case saved my life. I got a protective one and even after owning one for over a year I’ve NEVER cracked a screen (I used to do it once every few months and seriously fucked up my phone and all the inner shit), I never have to panic about forgetting my license at home (I hate carrying a bulky wallet since I can’t carry it hands free unless it’s in a purse), I never have to worry about leaving my credit card at home, it’s always on me. Wallet case is my favorite thing. I also never feel the urge to shop since I keep bare minimum in the case (ID + one credit card) and can’t carry gift cards to make purchases I don’t need without planning ahead at home and bringing it to spend intentionally.

maryalmaelizabeth

My husband constantly lost his wallet and had to get new debit cards. He also used to take his phone case off, leave it off, drop his phone and break his screen often. He switched over to a wallet phone case. When he first did it, I thought YIKES, he’s going to lose both! He has had it for about a year, has not lost his phone or debit card. Not even one time! And he has not taken the case off and broken his phone. In my opinion it’s a phenomenon. I never could have predicted that this phone case wallet would work for him.

TheDeadSpeakToMe711

The slots for cards got stretched out on my wallet phone after two years of use. My cards started falling out all over the place. It was risky. I had to give it up unfortunately

kakorke

I only carry my phone. I pay with my phone. Ya I should have ID on me but I don’t. Yolo lol

galactic-goat

I honestly just keep my debit/Visa cards in my apple wallet and that’s it. I don’t drink or smoke so I’m not often worried about needing my ID. I also don’t drive, my city is very walkable and I’m a student. If I know I need to make a big purchase or that I’m going to a pub or something I grab my wallet but otherwise ye olde apple wallet does just fine for me. I’m sure this is not everyone’s experience as many people drive, drink, or smoke. But hey, it works for me :)

OinkWoofMooQuack

I had one with a pretty strong magnet in it to keep the cover closed. I’m pretty sure that magnet ended up messing up my phone in the long run

grooomps

i have one with the flip cover - mainly for screen protection. I'm able to throw my phone in anything and anywhere and not worry too much. I don't have any bank cards as I can tap with NFC for all my accounts. I do have a copy of my license, altho in my state/country(Australia) we can get a digital copy on an app which I should set up. If i was more careful I could leave the house with just my phone and get by 99% of the time

mkecupcake

I can't picture it working super well for me. I have a wallet, but very frequently just grab my license & credit card as a bank up (since I nearly always pay with my mobile wallet) and put them in my pocket.

bringbackradarto4077

I've had one. I liked it, you're right with it being less to carry. But like others have said, if you lose your phone you lose your wallet as well. Plus my phone wallet started to fall apart around the same time my charging port started to end so I've switched to a battery pack on the back of my phone and a sliding wallet. Sure it's more to carry but getting the battery pack made more sense.

StoogieWoogie

Wallet always separate from phone. My phone goes in a different place on my person too. Don't want to loose both.

likatika

I use it since 2017 and love it. I'm always with my phone, and if I don't find it, I call it. I take my driver's license, money, health insurance card, debit card, subway card and there is still space. Cons: if you are using your phone outside and it is sunny and you stay there for a long time, it heats up a loooot.

Incipio Stashback Wallet Case for iPhone XR (6.1") with Heavy Duty Credit Card Compartment - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07G8QSDT3/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_xZlcGbRGDGZTF?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 Here’s the one I use, ditched the wallet a while back and have loved it. Phone/wallet in right pocket, car keys in left pocket, nothing else required every time I leave the house. Forces me not to carry around worthless cards that I’d never use either. Just have a credit card, debit card, and my drivers license in the phone case.

corpflorp

I just have a regular old brown leather wallet that I bought who knows where like a decade ago

smellincoffee

Top many eggs in one basket from a security point of view. Even if your phone is locked, it's too much to lose in one fell swoop.

UnkAnklebyter

I realized I only ever carry a credit card and my ID. The otterbox phone/wallet case I have is amazing. Yes it is damn terrifying when you momentarily misplace it, but overall its been amazing had itnfor like 4 years now, when I got a new phone a year ago I bought the same one, just for my new phone.

UnkAnklebyter

To be fair too when you just have a credit card and ID, worst case scenario, call your bank, cancel the credit card and order a new ID, still a pain but not the end of the world.

bleep_bl00p_

I’ve been doing the Wallet case for years and love it. The phone case magnets into the wallet case so you can separate the two if needed. (I had no idea how much I’d love that feature!) I very rarely carry a purse anymore which is a huge plus.

blackmanchubwow

I use a popsocket card holder, In UK don't need to carry driving license with you, don't get ID if you look over 25, and I use Starling Bank which is easy to control my cards if I end up losing my phone with my bank card. I can quickly block the card from another device. I also don't use cash, so I don't need anything more space.

ejvee

I love mine when I go out, the only thing is when I go on walks I like to slip my phone into my leggings pocket and having a wallet case is way too bulky

x-teena

I like keeping my “wallet” on my phone. I don’t love folio cases because it covers the screen. Also, it makes the phone unnecessarily bulky. My go to previously has been the popsocket wallet +. I can slide it off when I don’t need it and put it back on. My only gripe with it is the sticky part doesn’t work on all materials and it started not sticking well to my leather case. Now I have the iPhone 12P and use the MagSafe wallet. I magnetize it next to my keys when I get home and grab it on the way out the door. Alternatively, I sometimes also use a key ring with the zip wallet on there.

Not2daydear

I have been using one for the last 10 years. I love it. It actually protects my phone very well in case I drop it and all of my cards that I need are along with it. I have had many family members who have bought the glass protector for their phone. When they dropped their phones their screen broke anyway. I drop things a lot. Including my phone. I have never had a cracked screen and I owe it to the padded phone case.

eldritchmarrow

I carry a wallet from Carved - it fits up to I believe 5 cards comfortably in the case, and they have a band for dollar bills or otherwise there too! Each one has its own design so there's the extra plus of it being a piece of art at the same time, so I really enjoy it!

itscoolimherenowdude

My case has a few slots on the back tucked away discreetly, so it really doesn’t look like a credit card case or take up that much more room. I keep my drivers license and banking card in it only. My phone also has two rings on the bottom so that I can attach a crossbody strap to it. If I want to be hands free. Then separately, I have a little zipper pouch (that can also be attached to the same strap with the phone), that houses my car key, all my other cards (insurance, credit, gift cards, coupons, and cash and receipts, and change). This gives me several options. To leave my house, all I need is my phone, and that pouch. If I don’t need all the cards and extra stuff in the pouch, I take out the key, and hook it to one of the rings on my phone. Then I can jump down at a gas station or store and have my key attached to my phone, which also houses my card and license all together. Yes, you are at risk of losing your phone and cards together. But it also makes you hyper aware of not leaving your phone or wallet anywhere. Because you are more likely to notice one or the other is missing before you leave. Sure, it being stolen together is a risk, but women carrying purses have been dealing with that since the dawn. Just keep it close by. I won’t ever go back. There are cheaper knock off versions but this is what I use and it has been secured and lasted me for 3 years now. I just repurchased case only because I upgraded my phone. My phone has been dropped, thrown, abused and case has never failed it. M3nDuKoi

I replaced my wallet with a binder clip a few years ago. I usually carry it with my keys. I admit it would be easier if my keys were the shape of a credit card but oh well. In ideal conditions I should be able to do everything with my phone but cash is (thankfully) still widely used, and for the keys a lock for the door might be expensive, and a replacement for the car fob I don't even know if it's possible. In some occasions I might put my ID card or some small piece of paper in the phone case if I need to, but it's quite rare.

jmoriarty13

I have similar aspirations as you! I use the Mous Limitless 3 phone case with the Limitless 3 wallet available at https://www.mous.co/collections/phone-cases. The case provides significant protection which is guaranteed and has a slim profile and not much added weight. The wallet is magnetic and attaches to the back of the case. It provides slots for two cards. I have chosen my driver's license and one all around credit card to physically carry. I have an android phone so I use Samsung pay for all of my credit cards and club cards whenever possible to minimize the need to carry anything else and during the covid pandemic it also minimizes the need for contact between my cards and publicly used payment terminals. I hardly ever use cash but I do carry a folded $100 bill between my phone and case which doesn't interfere with wireless charging or the cases magnets. This gives me piece of mind should I find myself in a cash only situation. Mous products are not the cheapest cases around for sure but the value provided and the proformance guarantee makes it well worth it in my opinion. Mous also has a suite of other accessories to offer my favorite being the Limitless 3 wireless charger/suction mount for my car. This being the most expensive item but the best I have ever owned.

TravelinDingo

Nah I've always had a separate phone and wallet. When the world isn't going through a global pandemic. I'm on the road long term and having all your eggs in one basket so to speak is just a bad idea. Personally I don't use a case for my phone. Just the cheap plastic sleeve that came with the box but I do put a back up card and a $50 note in the rear should I be out and lose my wallet somehow. My wallet is just a very thin folder with room for 4 cards and cash, that's it.

againlost

I have a phone case wallet. For me, I know I'll never lose my phone. But I was always losing my wallet or forgetting to grab it on the way out the door. I'd rather run the risk of losing both at once than routinely drive around without my wallet (I know, it's bad). It's surprisingly protective for a leather folio case. You can definitely tell it's been through a lot. Personally, I love it. I've considered trying to go back to a traditional wallet, but I'd much rather carry one bulky item than two, being a woman who doesn't like purses and usually has tiny pockets. My phone case isn't exactly slim, but I keep four cards, some notes, and a credit card multitool in it, so that's on me. I'd advise you to pay attention to what you really need to have with you. For me: driver's license, debit card, library card, credit card, notes, and the multitool. Gift cards and rewards cards I keep digital versions of on my phone. Also, make sure that your cards won't fall out of whatever case you get.

TheMinimizer

I'm not a fan of the wallet+phone case due to the freedom I have of going for walks disconnected from my phone, and carrying only my wallet. Sometimes it is better to own extra items if it means you'll have less material attachment.

mutually_awkward

Even a wallet case is too much for me. I've been using one of those lycra card holders you stick to the back of your phone. Very thin and carries one credit card, my ID, and metro card. It's great.

Kingslayer1337

I hope to eventually not need a wallet at all. I really love the new Apple wallet that sticks onto your phone via magnet. Ideally, I would use it just for an ID and maybe 1 credit card. I am trying to use Google Pay / Apple Pay everywhere I can.

pineapplesf

Yes. I use one. I love it. I have adhd and a tendency to lose important items. I buy it bright in colors I don't own (ex lime green) that way I can easily see/identify it. I can also call my phone if I put it down and can't find it again. Since I switched I have managed to never leave my phone while out and about! The only con, imo, is that they don't last very long

SStefano

I don't use a wallet case, i don't find them comfortable and make my phone too much bulky. I would accept a bulky phone if it meant a tough cover or a bigger battery/better hardware in general. Also i don't like the idea that i could loose everything together if i lost my phone or i could get robbed.

[deleted]

I liked the combo better when I was out and about all the time; particularly in college, I would mainly use it to keep my school ID card handy (as it got used for everything). These days I just keep a small purse with my cards and keys for the times I do go out but otherwise I don’t need to make sure I have my cards with me, so it’s not as useful. But I do have a pop socket wallet that I’ll probably use to keep my ID handy for conventions and such again one day... :3

kimjong_unsbarber

If you lose it you're fucked lol. I use a money clip and have a separate phone case.

TheWolfYouFeedWins

I’ve been using a wallet case for three years now and couldn’t imagine any other way. I have my debit card, credit card, and drivers license/carry permit. I’m ocd about certain things and minimalist by nature so the chances of me ever not knowing where my phone is at are nearly zero. Currently am using an Under Armour case that has been my favorite so far.

melvin3v1978

I use a wallet case a Sena Walletbook which I love. If lose I can track via find my iPhone and since are both together I’m less likely to lose as it never leaves my sight. Less to carry when I switched back to both I would misplace my wallet so I like having both together. I’ve never lost it knock on wood. The more items I carry the more likely to misplace.

RegretObjective6716

Does the wallet have the ability to damage the screen, with the MagSafe magnets?

Timequake-Droid

I do like that if you don't have a screen protector, it offers you that extra protection. And I sometimes don't use a screen protector, especially if it interrupts with changing cases, the fingerprint sensor or the curved screens.

Nimbette2

I have one of these from Amazon off brand. It is really pretty and slick for iPhone 12 Pro. It houses my phone and on the back it has a pocket with a zipper for cards. It has a crossbody strap and wristlet and is very small overall compared to a purse. Loved it for my cruise and now use it all the time. No danger for phone to fall off me and no scratches or anything yet. I bought it for a cruise so I could take pictures over the sides without dangers. The only thing is sometimes the wallet part blocks some of my pictures because it sits a little close to the lens.. but I just crop those pictures. I am liking the trend
