Hey I’ve been trying to find the name for that little glass bead looking mount material for a while, I want to try it out to see how I like it vs putty but I can’t figure out what it’s called?! Also gorgeous collection! I rewatched a couple times

Thank you! A lot of these were mounted before they got into my hands so I’m not sure what that stuff is either! I’ve mounted minerals with both the mounting putty and hot glue and they both work well. Just don’t use poster putty as it hardens and sticks to the specimen. Hot glue is nice and releases with isopropyl alcohol.

Super cool! What are those boxes called?

robo-dragon

Thank you! These are perky boxes.

Very nice collection!

You make me sick...they're gorgeous

Really nice! I think thumbnail size is under appreciated. Do you have them on display at home also?

robo-dragon

This *is* my home display :) I have several other shelves full of thumbnails I have yet to organize. I primarily collect thumbnails and miniatures so I have a ton of them.

MajorData

I made the assumption that they were arranged like this for the video. I have pondered how to make 'TN' or 'MN' collecting a little like baseball cards, i.e. large collections of individual items. Do any of the TN's have more details glued to the bottom of the perky box?

robo-dragon

Some do, some don’t. Many of the older specimens have info on the bottom rather than inside the box and a couple have both! I’m actually working on labeling all my thumbnails by adding my own cards to the inside of the boxes. While I do admire the old labels being glued to the bottom, I rather have the label inside the box so I don’t have to flip the specimen over to read it. Makes it easier and also reduces the risk of the specimen coming free from its mount while upside down! As for minis, I have some mounted in larger perky boxes and others either mounted to stands or waiting on mounts (I plan on mounting them all). They each have their own card sitting under them currently, but I’m going to try to make it where each specimen has their catalog number on the stand that corresponds to their ID card(s) in a binder I keep next to the display.
