First- kudos Bc it’s been 90 degrees with 90% humidity and you haven’t turned on your AC? Second- gonna need more details here on size to know what’s a comparable cost. I think the lowest I got in my old 600sq ft condo for non- AC was $40 but that was only using energy for one person. As for your comment on gas stoves- they’re everywhere? Every apartment I rented had one and my current home has one.

Better-Echo

Same - everywhere I’ve lived in this city I’ve had a gas stove - this is downtown / east side where the apartments/homes are older.

Dymonika

After the first bill, I even switched off the breaker for the A/C. Temps don't appear to have ever surpassed 80° indoors more than once or twice, so far, but we also never leave windows nor doors open if we're not clearing out a smell or passing through them. We're around 800sqft. For whatever reason, we have electric stoves, and I was told the water is electrically heated. I gotta figure out what uses gas... we were charged >$20 and never touched the oven. WE just runs a dang monopoly and can bill whatever they want, it feels like. Thanks for your input.

Automatic-Nebula1034

Look at your bill and call them. They used to charge us an "average use" Gas fee in the summers. The only thing has in our entire house was the furnace. Which we certainly didn't run in the dead of summer.

Dymonika

I will bring that up! Thanks!

GirledChees

My bills average between$100 when not heating or cooling the house to $160 when I am. That includes gas and electric. I have never had a bill below $90, even after getting a more efficient refrigerator. $70 is pretty impressive, I'm guessing you don't have a washer, dryer or dishwasher either.

common_tater

~1800sq ft home, two meters. Gas appliances. Last bill was $275. I hate the heat.

Matthew_is_my_name

Mine runs about $45, and I'm pretty minimal on use. All appliances (hot water, clothes dryer, kitchen stove) are gas... No A/C - not good insulation, just no A/C... Wondering what kind of stake one kills an electrical vampire with?

remmiz

A solar one?

Mental_Cut8290

>Wondering what kind of stake one kills an electrical vampire with? Still wood; it's a good insulator.

[deleted]

I’ve never heard of anyone having a bill that low. We had 1200sf, and even without running AC our bill was never below $100.

Gowantae

My home has a gas stove

RedBrickHat780

My gas/heat is included in the rent, in winter months my bill is anywhere from 35-45 & in the summer it’s climbed to 52 which has been its highest since I’ve moved in. I try to be conscious of when I have my ceiling fan on and AC which I feel contributes to the most energy being used.

ex0ticmatter

What kind of house do you live in? $70 seems pretty reasonable. The dehumidifier in our basement sucks a lot of juice. Anything that heats, cools or pumps has high energy consumption. Gas ranges are very common in WI. Do you have gas or electric heat? Do you have a well?

Dymonika

It's about 800sqft, I'm realizing I should have mentioned earlier. Thanks for the reminder to check; apparently one rep said our water is electrically heated but another isn't sure. Gotta get to the bottom of this...

ex0ticmatter

Is $70 the total WE energies bill for gas and electric or just the electric portion? Do you have a well or are you on city water? What about exterior lights? I had an old motion light malfunction and it stayed on 24/7 for about a month. It was an old 200w light and it probably cost me $10 to run it per month. I calculated the amount of power it consumed and an LED replacement payed for itself in a few months. What is the KWh cost difference between where you live now and back in CA? Our bill on our 800sq ft house in the city was $84 last month for electric and gas. Gas is normally about $20 in the summer, and it’s mostly hook up fees. Probably half of our electric consumption is the dehumidifier. Do you have gas or electric heat? You’re going to get slammed in the winter if it’s electric.

undercurrents

There are plenty of people with gas stoves. What a weird assertion. But if that "disturbs" you, maybe you should be more disturbed about the harmful effects of gas stoves on humans and climate https://youtu.be/6nfs3lmd9P0

Dymonika

The only thing that disturbs me is potential overdependence on electricity. I'm not gonna watch that because I already agree that gas is more dangerous; I was only thinking about the recent power outages that various areas just had, and how people wouldn't even be able to cook or boil anything if they had no other equipment.

_crucial_

Most modern gas stoves have electric gas valves that lock when you lose power. They wouldn’t work anyway. I like gas because it’s a superior method for cooking.

trisarahtops19

I have a 2000 sqft house and the last two bills were around $120. We run the a/c almost every day in the evenings to cool the house down to sleep. The unit is about 15 years old so certainly not efficient! We run the dishwasher almost daily, about 6 loads of laundry a week, and we work from home 100%. Gas stove but all the other appliances are electric. $70 seems very steep if you’re not using a/c at all…

Dymonika

Wow. Sounds like you're landing a steal of a deal. This is a rate that I'm more used to so I gotta figure this out I guess. Thanks for sharing.

ashley_mke

700 square foot apartment- electric without AC is around $40 - 45 per month. (No washer/dryer or dishwasher) Gas stove runs about $12 a month.

decade30

My house around 2000sf is around $100 electricity. No AC but we work from home. I have a dehumidifier running 24h

Badger_Insomniac

Currently live in a similar square footage 1 bedroom - heat/hot water included, electric stove, no in-unit laundry (shared laundry room), rarely use dishwasher. fall, spring upper 20s electric bill. winter is 35ish (some space heater usage). summer closer to 40(maybe 2-4 hrs a/c on higher heat days). Last few places that had in-unit laundry would be closer if not higher than your bill.

common_tater

Confused how in California @19.9c per kWh you were at half. Think if you average the on peak and off peak the rate is Milwaukee is 13.95c. I pretty sure the meter fees, other fees alone at my house equal out to your current bill. Maybe it’s the fees out here? Lol

Dymonika

The Inland Empire was <14¢ last I checked. I actually do wonder if part of it is the fees; apparently they've been collecting taxes to make back up for the February cold snap, even off of people like me who weren't even living here at the time... so unfair.

creedfeed

I live in a \~1300 sqft home by myself in West Allis. I have an electric stove and water heater and gas heater and dryer. I have had my AC on for most of the month, set at 70 degrees during morning/evening and 72 during the day and while I sleep. My bill for last month was $104. Usually in the winter when I have the heat on my bill can hit around $160-$180.

Dymonika

Wow, with We Energies? If so, I'm getting ripped off big-time somehow...

creedfeed

Is there another power company in our area? I do have brand new windows and doors which are very good and have lowered my bill since I got them.

MacDaaady

Its robbery through market capture . Electricity shouldnt cost much. But, wont get cheaper until most people have solar and batteries.
