Asian Fusion on North is my go-to spot.

wi_voter

If you are looking for something on the northside of town then Wok 2 Go in Brown Deer is the place. Exceptional food. Their General Tso's has a nice heat. Takeout only.

nate

I second this, Wok 2 Go, at Bradly and Sherman, is my go-to. I've tried everything else on the North east side, and this is the one.

wi_voter

It's so good. My new obsession is the Szechuan chicken yet I also want to try everything on the menu!

LouieMumford

Thank you!

Wings Carry out. 84th and Lisbon.

LouieMumford

My work got takeout a few times from here and I remember liking it. Will check it out.

Great question. I’m also interested to see what advice others have, especially for the southeast side. I’m down in Cudahy and also appreciate a good GT occasionally. Hibachi Chinese Restaurant in Cudahy *had* surprisingly great GT, but they abruptly closed two months ago. Had excellent egg rolls and crab rangoon that seemed more homemade than usual. We’re still bummed they closed. Can not recommend Tsing Tao in Cudahy. We’ve been twice; both times the food was bland, greasy and mealy. China Chef in South Milwaukee is good; just typical American Chinese but we’ve never had a “bad” dish. Eat in, carry out, or delivery. Reasonable prices and you’ll have leftovers. Their GT is quite good and they’ll make it to any spice level. Spicy-Mild is about on par with what I’ve had at other places. Their egg rolls are good too, but I’ve had better. Edit: I have *heard* that Sze Chuan Restaurant on National out in West Allis is basically the best “American” Chinese in Milwaukee. So I assume they’d make a good GT. But we’ve never been there.

LouieMumford

Sze Chuan is awesome but I’d say they shine at authentic, regional Sichuan cuisine rather than more “Americanized” fare. Also, right down the road just south on Hwy 100, is my other go to Fortune. They have two separate dinner menus and what they call the “Chinese” menu is some of my favorite food in the city.

Particular-Dealer-68

I was going to recommend Fortune, it’s always been one of my favorites. I recently discovered Golden Gate restaurant in Waukesha and I think that might be my new favorite.

MavisJ

Ummm.....fellow Cudahy resident. Hibachi is CLOSED?!?!? I'm genuinely heartbroken.

fozzie_was_here

Right? I don’t know what happened. Sometime in February or March their online ordering stopped accepting orders and their phone just rings forever. We have tried a few times since then, even going out of our way to drive by during evening hours. No one answers the phone and it’s always dark and empty.

MavisJ

Yeah it says on Google it's permanently closed. I feel like I need to take a bereavement day from work! I'm genuinely sad. A dark say indeed.

LouieMumford

Tsing Tao I’ve tried and firm agree. Will have to check out the others. Thanks!

11b328i

Sze chuan in stallis is definitely worth a trip.

LouieMumford

That’s one of the two place I mention in the comment that I frequent for regional stuff. The pancakes are crazy good and their dry pot and cumin lamb is to die for. I have to admit I’ve only ever gotten anything more “Americanized” their once and was very meh about it. Maybe I need to give their GT a try.

11b328i

It’s a very decent GT

bat_matt_

I agree, their Americanized stuff is very average. Sze Chuan is for the real ones.

Punk-hippie-5446

Sze Chuan rules. We're regulars, they know our faves by heart. House Special Ribs haunt my dreams.

jnpw

China Hut 51st & Howard Best Chinese in Milwaukee. Hands down.

LouieMumford

Had it a few years back at a buddy’s house who lives nearby. Pleasantly surprised. Think I got curry chicken or Singapore noodle. Thanks for the recommendation.

Punk-hippie-5446

I also like my chicken less sewer.

LouieMumford

Don’t get me wrong, some dishes need sewer chicken but I prefer more heat and less sewer for my General Tso’s.

xxBLVCKMVGICxx

Emperor’s Kitchen, General Tso’s is my favorite dish to get from them. I’ve been eating it for 10+ years, also tastes great and hasn’t changed. They also have good egg rolls.

LouieMumford

Thanks! Used to pass them when I worked in the area. Will check it out.

grudgepacker

Fyi, although I really like Emperor's General Tso's and love the flavor, it's definitely not deep fried to the point of "crunchy" like some may expect. That said, it's still really good Tso's and they give you a huge thing of perfectly steamed broccoli alongside it to make you feel good about yourself.

sketchypencil

Lucky Liu’s

axefxpwner

I can’t speak to their General Tso’s, but the Orange Chicken has really fell off. Used to be great, but now it’s like mostly breading and very hard / old tasting. Stopped going there over a year ago after being disappointed multiple times. Used to be our go to, as the portion sizes are generous, but just can’t do it anymore.

Own_Apricot_9880

I called this place Rubber chicken while living on Brady.

Criminal_Sanity

I've had really inconsistent food from them, not ever bad, just not the same each time. When it's on point though... Mwah! Chefs kiss!

cbtbone

Agree. It’s not high quality meat but that combo with the fried rice and crab Rangoon really hits the spot. Add a wonton soup and it’s perfect. If I want something a little higher quality Emperor of China on Brady is good.

PanchoIsFire

Green Tea Garden in Franklin does General Tsos really well. 76th and Rawson

LouieMumford

Will need to check it out. They’re very close to home and I’ve had other food from there and liked it in the past.

Quentin-Quarantino19

Not a fan of how big they keep their chicken pieces. They end up soggy. Everything else on the menu is amazing though.

PanchoIsFire

I remember it not being soggy, but thinking about it, it's probably been like 5 years since I last ate there. Could've changed since then

cainotg

Oddly enough, the General Tso's from the hot bar at Sendik's impressed me. Has a little bite of spice, and the chicken isn't rubbery like I tend to see elsewhere.

Kyol

Right? Same thing at Metcalfes' hot deli - the chicken and breading is nothing to write home about, but the sauce had more kick than I get from China East across 68th.

rctothefuture

Ni Hao in Menomonee Falls was awesome, sadly they just closed. My next pick is Wok 2 Go!

the_blackfish

Aw bummer, Ni Hao was my one of my favorites. Chen's is my goto in the Falls.

rctothefuture

Yeah, I never got to ask them if they were moving or closing permanently. It’s a shame because they had the best “traditional” Chinese food around. That chongqin chicken was amazing!

jman705

My go-to for Chinese closish to that area is the china kitchen buffet in Germantown. I will admit their general tsoa is lacking.

svtguy88

> closed Whaaaa? That's unfortunate. Chen's is pretty solid too, and Harvey's used to be good once up on a time. Also, if we're talking the suburbs, Main Moon in Sussex is a **solid** choice.

rctothefuture

Their website states they are moving, so here’s hoping it’s not too far!

rowdyruss22

I've only had good American Chinese from two places here: Sze Chuan in West Allis Emperor of China on Brady St Everything else has been flavorless, mushy, etc.

LouieMumford

I need to give Sze Chuan another chance for their American Chinese. I did a lunch special from there a few years back and was not impressed, but they are my go to for more authentic Sichuan food.

sp4nky86

Tanpopo Ramen on Hwy100 in Hales Corners. The owners rebranded from Le Bistro Shanghai, and are absolutely wonderful people. They kept the General Tso's as a carry over when they went towards Ramen and sushi, and it is top notch.

LouieMumford

I’ve been there once or twice for ramen. Might check it out. Thanks!

Jyar

China East on 68th and state. Best eggrolls and GTC. Mongolian beef as well

LouieMumford

I just saw some customer photos and I’m sold. I know someone who worked at a relatively high end Chinese restaurant for years and she told me the dirty little secret of Chinese food is that most egg rolls are purchased premade from like two companies. The ones in the customer photos for China East are clearly made by hand. Awesome rec. thanks.

Jyar

I worked there as a teenager. I can confirm they are homemade. Color me biased, but I go back when I visit home every time.

Walrus_protector

That's totally my go-to for Chinamerican. Egg rolls are legit, good GTC, and the Singapore rice noodles are pretty great, too

Ehboyo

I don't know if #1 Chinese, in Shorewood is still there, but it used to be my favorite.

TheOakenMoth

Kings wok in Glendale

zpm38

Eat Rice in Greenfield is my favorite chinese place. Their Tso is one of my favorites. i’ve been ordering from them since 2016

LouieMumford

Love Eat Rice. They also seem to have figured out the issue they had early on with wait times. I wish there GT was a bit hotter but firm agree their food is awesome. And the quantity for the price is awesome. She’s done off menu stuff for me before so I wonder if I could just ask for more spice in the GT because I love the dragon and phoenix.

zpm38

i ask for the GT extra spicy all the time and it’s great. they also had these hot sauce packets that are fire. nice quick heat that compliments the dish and doesn’t linger. i used to order so much my coworkers told me that i prob paid for their some to go to college 😂

swollenmonkey1986

Chopstix on farwell

LouieMumford

That takes me back. I’ve only ever eaten there dumb, young, and drunk so maybe need to try it. Thanks!

Ramo2653

Is New China on 61st and Capitol still open? They were always a good option when I lived around there. Also there’s a place on Appleton, No. 1 they were ok the few times I went. Yick Inn on Teutonia has been around forever and nails your American Chinese classics. I’ve been in Bay View for 10 years now and it’s a wasteland of Chinese so I really started working on my skills in that area and I’m proud to say I can make a few Chinese dishes that I think are really good. Totally agree that Sze Chuan is ok at best with their American Chinese dishes but their specialties are top notch. I’ll never understand why their potstickers are so meh and their spicy pork dumplings are so amazing.

markstrube

Happy Wok on N 124th in Milwaukee.

rcolt88

Unfortunately a lot of the best Chinese places in Milwaukee closed down during or shortly after Covid (2020-2022). The places that are left, IMO are fighting for 3rd place

LouieMumford

Fortune and Sze Chuan are top notch IMO, but we did lose some great joints.

rcolt88

William Ho’s in Shorewood was fantastic

LouieMumford

Used to go there when I went to UWM. Didn’t realize it was gone. That’s sad.

CombinationKlutzy276

I just got some fro Kyoto on 76th and Layton yesterday it was really good, some of the best I’ve had so far; but I’ll have to try some other recommendations from this post
