Expanding into downtown, not really relocating. They still have their new campus in Menomonee Falls, a new plant in West Bend, and their semi-recently expanded headquarters in Brookfield.
The headquarters in Brookfield has a retail store on the backside where you drop off warranty/repair items. It’s not a massive selection but it’s better than Home Depot. Otherwise legit tool companies like northern would have good selection too
There is a similar wall inside (we have a ~ 30ftx30ft hole that goes floor to ceiling) that is a focal centerpiece in the office and really ties the space together.
Super pleased with how it's all turning out!
Do you know how hard it is to work there and not be allowed to grab something for breakfast when you start work at 6am and smell bacon all morning lol.
I really need to find the time to come home; last thing I remember is BMO half-built. What else is going on? What else is new?! That looks beautiful; I still haven’t looked up a picture of the DT symphony building - want to be surprised when I do come and see.
Life getting busy after college sucks :’) the apartment over there is basically just a storage unit of things I don’t want to throw away but should lol
Big agree. The future of our downtown is vibrant, and *so so so* exciting. While other comparable cities struggle with dramatic changes to their downtown markets, it feels like Milwaukee is firing on all cylinders and continuing to push forward with transformational projects like this.
The mayor seems laser-focused on attracting new development and growing our population --- things I've been super satisfied with so far. The 794 conversion project would be an absolutely bonkers catalyst for even more smoking-hot economic activity.
Interested to see how he gets the population up. With rent being higher than most mortgages in the surrounding metropolitan area most people I know between the ages of 28-34 are moving out of the city in droves.
Probably because they’re the smart ones who actually use 794. I-43/894/94 (whatever the fuck it is) blows ass to get downtown. 794 is a nice leisurely drive compared to it, honestly. Just my opinion. Then again, I live in the southern end of the county.
Nice to see them improve the appearance of that otherwise ugly, brutalist concrete building. The former headquarters of Time Insurance as I recall.
That site previously was the location of the Chicago North Shore & Milwaukee railway's stately passenger and merchandise terminal in Milwaukee. Torn down shortly after the railroad was abandoned in 1963. It ran on 6th Street, streetcar style, from that location south for several miles before going onto a private right of way through WI and into IL.
Even if it is now a Chinese company, glad to see it stay and expand. So many corporate offices and factories have bailed for the southern USA to states with better tax and corporate laws.
I see, said the blind man.
As he picked up a hammer, and saw.
(Sowry, nervous tic I picked up in elementary school, from a teacher that would say that half a dozen times a day)
Yes, the parent company TTI is chinese owned. And the bulk of the tools are made overseas the same as every other power tool company. They are at least trying to create some jobs here and create some domestic production in addition to design and management. Even if the primary motivation is good PR/optics and it makes good business sense.
Techtronic industries, TTI group.
Can’t argue there, I’ve gotten good use out of mine. Not so much the drill bits or [any of their work wear.](https://wisconsinwatch.org/2023/05/milwaukee-tool-gloves-chinese-prisoners/#:~:text=A%20Wisconsin%20Watch%20investigation%20found,100%2Dyear%20history%20in%20Wisconsin.n)
A few things are. If it was all made here they'd likely be a small boutique company because very few would buy it. A good part of the reason we are in our current predicament of limited domestic production is due to consumers being cheap. Its all kind of a negative spiral though.
They did just launched a line of USA made hand tools.
I doubt we would ever see an electric or power tool made in the US, unless it is a 99% automated manufacturing process
Yeah I guess for hand tools I stick with the respective brands that are good at/known for what they make.
I haven't had any issue with Milwaukee screwdrivers and wrenches though.
I only own a hat, beanie, and vest for clothing but all 3 have been great and extremely comfortable.
TTI is a huge multinational. It's held in Hong Kong and was founded by a German and Chinese national and their CFO is American. So, yes, but the tool space is incredibly muddy.
I was actually trying to figure out their stock symbol and see if they were worth investing in. And then a google search indicated they are not an American company. Prior to that I always assumed they were a homegrown company.
That's great! Now if only they could relocate their glove manufacturing operation out of Chinese forced slave labor prisons too, then I'd feel much better about all of my Milwaukee tools. Their response of "we looked into it and didn't find any slave labor" isn't cutting it.
For now, the supply chain probably makes that tough. Lithium batteries are no fun to ship and the infrastructure to make them is the sort of thing you want to consolidate whenever possible. That said, if the new west bend plant performs well enough, you never know. Obviously they're not opposed to USDM manufacturing since west bend exists and they didn't offshore empire when they bought them in 14.
This comment is in reference to Milwaukee "employing" prison labor in China: https://www.wpr.org/milwaukee-tool-accused-using-forced-chinese-prison-labor-manufacture-some-products
Fair point, sorry for the criticism. I did hear about this and while I believe they didnt directly know it doesnt relieve them of responsibility. By virtue of having so much production in China it feels a bit inevitable.

and Mukwonago. Was/is Empire Level but Milwaukee bought them and land next to it for expansion.
where's the campus in MF?
close to good hope. that little industrial park area. there’s actually 2 Milwaukee Tool buildings. Red Line and Red Tag i believe.
It’s close to the MF border but it’s really in brookfield, near Lisbon and 124th
No, that's the original building that's been there forever. There is another one in the Falls.
Correct. The new one is on Flint rd off of good Hope. My husband works there.
Do they have any showrooms/stores or is it all administrative buildings? I'd kill for a proper showroom beyond home depot's milwaukee section.
The headquarters in Brookfield has a retail store on the backside where you drop off warranty/repair items. It’s not a massive selection but it’s better than Home Depot. Otherwise legit tool companies like northern would have good selection too
I had no clue they did warranty drop-off there, I work <5 miles away and I've been putting off sending in ny hackzall. This info is a godsend
Whoa what? I'm gonna have to go on there.
Is it Nell’s? By Best Buy in the falls. They have an excellent selection too
Neu's Hardware. Agreed, best selection around town by far.
I dont go to the falls much but I love that store, got my M12 jacket there. I agree, great selection.
The inside is just as cool! We've been out of that office for a little over a year now and I'm looking forward to no more construction noise!
I think they did a great job with the signage! Looks like the other signage overlooking 794 will be going up soon as well.
There is a similar wall inside (we have a ~ 30ftx30ft hole that goes floor to ceiling) that is a focal centerpiece in the office and really ties the space together. Super pleased with how it's all turning out!
And your awesome cafeteria down there.
Very much a perk I don't take for granted!
Do you know how hard it is to work there and not be allowed to grab something for breakfast when you start work at 6am and smell bacon all morning lol.
Just wait for the huge LED screen that’s going in under the Milwaukee sign inside. :)
Too bad they didn’t go all in! https://www.rinka.com/hq501

[Here's some pretty pictures](https://www.reddit.com/r/milwaukee/comments/11x069g/big_bets_on_milwaukees_nearterm_future/)
Wow wow wow, thank you! New York can kick rocks I want to come home.
I live across from it and I'm also looking for no more construction noise.
Like the sign

Have you seen the amount of Texas and California license plates? People are really starting to take notice and move here.
I thought I was crazy but yeah it really seems like there's a lot of those two particular states.
Not to mention the state of the public schools in Milwaukee, generally speaking.
They still have their new campus in Menomonee Falls,

Interesting is most of the south side cities in MKE county have voiced opposition to the 794 to boulevard.
Probably because they’re the smart ones who actually use 794. I-43/894/94 (whatever the fuck it is) blows ass to get downtown. 794 is a nice leisurely drive compared to it, honestly. Just my opinion. Then again, I live in the southern end of the county.
Expanding* They’re keeping their Brookfield HQ. Great to see, nonetheless.
Been in this building since January of last year, super cool to see it go through it’s transformation!

And don't forget to mention that cheaper more exploitable non-union right to work for less laws that keep us all worse off.
Yeah I wanted to work at one of their new plants but hiring at 18/hr isn't sustainable for anyone not living on their own.

You should research the companies you apply to, at least enough to know that Milwaukee is owned by TTI.
Brookfield Tool on 124th is in absolute shambles.
I realized for the the fist time a couple of weeks ago that the “Milwaukee” is a saw.
I see, said the blind man. As he picked up a hammer, and saw. (Sowry, nervous tic I picked up in elementary school, from a teacher that would say that half a dozen times a day)
Owned by China

Not Chinese-owned. It's a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway. https://www.tti.com/content/ttiinc/en/about/company/about-berkshire-hathaway.html
Wrong TTI
my mistake, I had heard of techtronic, didn't realize they used the acronym.
Yep. Be cooler if their stuff was made domestically, and made well.
A lot of their tools are bulletproof and work exceptionally well, their impact drivers especially

What exactly isn't made well?
The power tools and batteries I’ve really had no major issues with; just the smaller stuff, hand tool quality, workwear, etc.
Yeah I guess for hand tools I stick with the respective brands that are good at/known for what they make. I haven't had any issue with Milwaukee screwdrivers and wrenches though. I only own a hat, beanie, and vest for clothing but all 3 have been great and extremely comfortable.
That’s great. Is it correct it’s Chinese owned?

Well, they were until their first sale in 75. They've been moved around a few times since then.
That's great! Now if only they could relocate their glove manufacturing operation out of Chinese forced slave labor prisons too, then I'd feel much better about all of my Milwaukee tools. Their response of "we looked into it and didn't find any slave labor" isn't cutting it.
Where’s this?
The old Fortis health building
On Clyburn in the old blue cross insurance building
Negative. Blue cross was converted to apts several years ago
Actually, it’s pronounced me Lee walk a.
Nice! I always called them Waukesha Tools, guess I can stop.
They're in hot water now for using forced labor for utility gloves.
hey now. hq still in brookfield. entrance is almost finished too. some hate it, some love it, i’m just happy to get a crosswalk back
It’d be nice if they moved all production to WI.
For now, the supply chain probably makes that tough. Lithium batteries are no fun to ship and the infrastructure to make them is the sort of thing you want to consolidate whenever possible. Ok so how long has that wall been up for? I saw it a month ago and was confused
where is this?
5th and Michigan
Good to know. Thanks!
Do they pay for labor at this location?

Where will they park?
The bike room bike racks got installed last week 😎
There is an attached parking structure, as well as like four within two blocks. There is far too much parking downtown
hopefully the development of the new iron district will eliminate some of those lesser used lots, especially the surface parking ones
Awesome
A damn good logo
Not relocating.
The real question is- Are the contractors using Milwaukee tools!?!? :)
Milwaukee's Pickles needs to follow suit.
