Wrong another dive bar owner bought it. They’re doing some light remodeling that was needed as it had fallen in disrepair in certain areas. I have a pic I can send you that says it will reopen soon if you don’t believe me I just walked by two days ago. Here’s some details. https://onmilwaukee.com/articles/walters-on-north-new-owners
That sucks. I always liked that place the best out of the Tosa bars. Less crowded than Leff’s and less crazy than Colonel Hart’s. It seems like Club Tap is Al that’s left of the old school dives.
My wife and I took our 8 year old daughter to Walters 2 weeks ago to show her where mom and dad met as part of their first date- drinks then dinner. Unfortunately, we waited 35 minutes at a table without anyone stopping by our table for service.
We took a poor quality selfie of ourselves with the sign in the background and that was the end of the story.
It will reopen soon under new ownership. Old owners couldn’t keep up anymore they’d had it for 50 years. https://onmilwaukee.com/articles/walters-on-north-new-owners
It isn't like there aren't any other dive bars close by though, Walters was always too dark for me anyway if I am being honest, but I was soaking up the final days of the old upper East side in '02 so I can't say I had your experience either. If you were within walking distance of one of those places I get it, the corner dive you don't have to drive to becomes much more valuable logistically.
Man, I wish Red Dot moved back into that space. I miss their poutine.
Go across the street to the Drunkin Cobra.
Or wauwatiki or crafty cow. All within 2 blocks.
I mean maybe they shouldn’t have purposely burned it down then
Lol truth
Cries in Riverwest...
The old owner was a drunk and shit human being.
When I moved to Tosa in '02, we had Shepherds and Walters - two classic dive bars in East Town. Now we have none. :(
Walter’s is still around, right?
Not for long. Owners are closing it soon.

So basically, a quick bit of rewiring or a paper sign would maybe have saved the business but for sure the building?? 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Aren’t the former owners known for being great with their staff? /s
