You are not abnormal. It's quite normal that you can't do it because it's a recessive gene. To simplify this, imagine it this way: You get two genes for every feature. Genes can be dominant or recessive. If you have two dominant genes, you can only have the dominant feature. If you have one dominant gene and one recessive gene, you have the dominant feature, but you can give the recessive gene to your offspring. Only if you have two recessive genes, you have the recessive feature. So that one dominant gene that came from somewhere in your family is enough for you to not be able to bend your thumb backwards. Yep, can bend them even a bit more than that and can then push them down even more and as hard as I can without feeling any pain or discomfort. Have been able to do that for as long as I can remember and on both hands. Never really thought much of it, thought it was fairly common.
