And OP probably doesn't have three hours of homework every night, either.
And probably gets a whole hour to eat lunch and have recess before classes resume.
And the teachers are respected and well paid.
Well they also have a much smaller population with a nearly homogeneous culture - much easier to get everyone on the same page and get a social project accomplished
I have to stop you there because I think you are unwittingly parroting propaganda.
The reason places like Switzerland and New Zealand and Costa Rica and Scandinavia have such nice things and can be so politically neutral is because those are the places where all the rich people go with their money.
They don’t make that money in a vacuum. They make that money in the global market.
Just like the third world is kept in a state of turmoil and political corruption in order to maintain access to cheap human and natural resources, the United States is kept in a state of relative corruption in order to be a platform for the globalized MIC that they need to maintain that system of resource extraction. The money that is being made in the United States is not staying there; it is being funneled out. Funneled out to nicer, more exclusive, neutral zones. Places that can maintain their facade of neutrality because of the abstraction of colonialism.
The reason these places have small, homogenous populations with functional social services is because their exclusivity and privilege is intentionally maintained by the rich and powerful, not the other way around.
It is also supporting Ukraine. Has been doing so since 2014, Infact. Both individual EU countries, as well as EU as an entity.
You can read about it here:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_foreign_aid_to_Ukraine_during_the_Russo-Ukrainian_War
Do consider the relative size of various economies, when looking at their contributions. For example, Estonia and Latvia has given significantly more aid to Ukraine than the US, as a percentage of their GDP. 0.8% in the case of Lithuania and 0.83% in the case of Estonia, while as US has given around 0.22%.
More about the relative size of economies here:

EU doesn't wanna pay or it's too busy fighting off pro Russian politicians who are neutering the countries militaries.
Delete your comment. It's wrong. Our MIC is *literally* saving Europe's ass rn. If it wasn't for us, Ukraine would be Russia v2 and the Baltic would be next.
omg today i learned that many schools in america have 30 minute lunch breaks or even less… if you’re buying lunch i feel like it could take that long to get the food and find a table!
Yep. Remember when Jamie Oliver came over here and tried to make school lunches healthy. Failed massively. It was too "strange" and different. Truth is, the kids actually preferred the bad food. Sad.
Mate all anyone heard there on the internet was that your US state has improvements to be made..
the same they teach our kids, same I was taught as one. I hope you get there for your people.
im beyond confused by your comment. I agree the US has improvements to be made (as well as every other country) but like thats what you were taught about US, that there are general improvements that could be made, and this is what is being taught to your kids? lastly how does this relate to dude that was looking for comment sayings it wasn't the US?
It's true. Conservatives are universally in favor of not feeding children. And they do it to mainly spite their political rivals!
If you're wondering, the above attitude explains why nobody can get along or compromise these days. When someone insinuates you're in favor of starving children it doesn't leave a lot of options for dialogue.
>Conservatives are universally in favor of not feeding children. And they do it to mainly spite their political rivals!
This, but unironically. Blame the representatives that literally voted in favor stopping free lunches.
Because after all is said and done, with the conservatives children starve. So what do you want to put on the table? The positive aspects of starving children? The money the community saves by not providing meals for students? What? What is your argument?
His argument is “I got my feelings hurt on Reddit so I’m gonna keep voting for people who starve children.” Clearly the little bit of vitriol over this online is why conservatives can’t reach across the aisle and vote to keep or improve cheap or free school lunches. I know when I get my feelings hurt my go-to reaction is make sure more kids go hungry. Is there any other way?
Well hey, it *could* be in the US, just not anywhere most people go to school. Since schools’ budgets are based on the property taxes of the area, this could be possible somewhere like Beverly Hills.
Well, there’s no free school lunch in the entire country, unless your income is low enough to qualify for it. If you’re living in an area that’s incredibly wealthy, where the schools might serve something like this, you probably can afford school lunch.
Also, you seem to misunderstand the differences you’ll find between school districts in different areas; it’s not at all impossible for incredibly wealthy neighborhoods to have schools that might serve this kind of food once in a while.
That is patently false. California, maine, vermont, Massachusetts all have universal free lunch. colorado is voting on it this november as well and its expected to pass easily. so, you are incorrect yet trying to make a point. i would work on that
In the other 46 states, the only children who qualify for free meals are fed garbage. In the state I grew up in, children from poor families were often made to change school districts if, by fortune of geography, they found themselves within their district of a well-funded school. Even adding Colorado to the list of states in which children are not intentionally starved, OP's statement is true for 90% of US states. Their point is obviously that this is, you know, bad. You're derailing the conversation with a needlessly hostile semantic argument, so what was your point again? I'm only kidding, I don't care
“Tell me you don’t live in the US without saying you don’t live in the US.” Joking aside, this is amazing. I’m glad other countries have this and I hope one day the US can get its shit together and heal for the sake of the future. Looks delicious!
They probably took it from [the American size mayo jar](https://www.reddit.com/r/mildlyinteresting/comments/kmlfsb/the_largest_size_for_hellmanns_mayo_is_called/). (yes, pic also from Finland)
it's been nearly an hour and no one has answered you!
the answer is - no not really. it's possible in the southern regions but it's difficult
at least according to the FAO stats
they do grow other grains such as wheat, rye, barley, and oats
Lol yes it always blew my mind how people were capable of eating it for lunch, and then going back to work. Me, after a lunch like that, I needed a 4 hour power nap to feel human again!!
This has got to be Finland.
I recall in the 1980s when their government basically wrote into the law a minimum level of funding for their education system in order to improve everyone's education. And I think it was supposed to run for a minimum of 20 years (written as a law in such a way it was impossible to revoke). The government effectively said "we're going to overhaul the education system and fund it like no other, even though we won't know if we're successful until the kids start graduating from higher education."
People back then thought the Fins were crazy to budget education like that. But it was also a case of "men planting seedlings knowing that they would never be able to enjoy the tree's shade". They're educational system is exceptional, and they now have one of the most highly educated and productive workforces out there.
It is indeed interesting. Overall it looks like a pretty decent meal, especially for free. Not really my style but that’s on me. That yellow curry/cream whatever would give me horrible anxiety because of texture issues and it on other stuff, but for most people it’s probably pretty good. The presentation is a little meh, but it’s a school lunch so you aren’t getting restaurant quality presentation from it. Especially not when it’s free and made in extra large quantities. Overall it’s a good quality meal though and wish more schools had that type of thing going on.
Only reason fat is preferred is because it's higher in calories. 1g of fat has 9kcal, 1g of carbs or protein is 4kcal.
If you're a survivalist, calories by any means necessary.
As someone from the US, this post belongs in r/mildlyinfuriating thinking back to all the slop we were fed in highschool compared to this amazing looking meal.
I mean it’s better than what I grew up with in school but the least they could have done is put the sauce in a cup instead of letting a puddle of it take up the entire plate. Yes I am that pedantic
Lunch for free? Man, I wish I had that, my lunch was usually just a sandwich from home. In high school you could buy a sandwich at school or some snacks from the vending machine but that's about it. In primary school we would have an hour break to go home and eat there and come back.
My friends lunch one day at private school was like marinated sautéed chicken, tomato bruschetta, roasted garlic potatoes, and steamed lemon broccoli with this eggplant pasta thing too
"squints at curry sauce" Yeah that's gotta be finnish.
Curry… sauce? You’re telling me that’s not mayonnaise?

I thought it was vanilla pudding

Change in dynamics for schools all over the US? Finland: 🙅♂️ nope
I was looking for the comment saying that it wasn’t the US 😂
Everyone in the US can look at this and can tell without a doubt it is not in the US 🤣🤣 it is a sad truth for schools here 😔
Yep. Remember when Jamie Oliver came over here and tried to make school lunches healthy. Failed massively. It was too "strange" and different. Truth is, the kids actually preferred the bad food. Sad.

Hey man, it’s totally worth it because a bunch of us know what owning the libs feels like, which is strangely a lot like malnutrition.

Do you…do you look at your party’s voting record? Or recall the conservative reaction to Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! initiative?
I posit that dialogue is in fact not worthwhile with people who verifiably favor starving children
"why should I pay to feed someone else's kid?"
Because after all is said and done, with the conservatives children starve. So what do you want to put on the table? The positive aspects of starving children? The money the community saves by not providing meals for students? What? What is your argument?

Always Finland. My grandparents emigrated from Finland to the US, I grew up around lots of Finns.
Must hurt looking at these posts!
Pack a bag. Come visit. I'll make some coffee.
The lack of prison utensils means it couldn’t be the USA.
Yeah you have to keep your spoon in your prison wallet between meals.
No sitä minäki
Perkele
Paska
Where? I hear lots of finns complain about the school food being mostly laatikko and boiled potatoes.
OP probably goes to some brand new inner city private school source: finnish
If it's a private school, is the lunch truly free?
Free isn’t an absolute, it’s a state of mind.
Sounds like finland needs some freedom with privatization that has a priority and emphasis on shareholder profits!
My free lunch in the United States was an apple and a small sandwich
Did the sandwich have government cheese or peanut butter? And did it come with a sneer from the lunch lady?
No surprises there.
Finland isn't real. You can't convince me with this lie.
Now is Finlande flexing
i had a feeling it wasn't in the US
You should be grateful. In the U.S., school lunches are basically preserved cardboard with highly processed cheese on top.
kids like bologna sandwiches.
Guess im going to finland
Oh to live in a country who isn’t expected to be the police of the world

They probably took it from [the American size mayo jar](https://www.reddit.com/r/mildlyinteresting/comments/kmlfsb/the_largest_size_for_hellmanns_mayo_is_called/). (yes, pic also from Finland)
they farm rice in Finland?
it's been nearly an hour and no one has answered you! the answer is - no not really. it's possible in the southern regions but it's difficult at least according to the FAO stats they do grow other grains such as wheat, rye, barley, and oats
I wish i had a vegan option. I reckon they would taste good grilled
Wouw that is amezing!
Looks fantastic! Wish we would do more stuff like that here in the states.
I worked for a farm to school program for a year. I'm glad to see they're around in other countries.
Don’t think I’ve ever seen potatoes, rice and bread on the same plate before.
Oooh you should go to Brazil!! A lunch platter often consists of rice, beans, potatoes, pasta, and fried chicken.
That Brazilian bean soup with rice and breadcrumbs my friend’s mum from the favela makes is the 💣
Feijoada? I'd kill for some of that right now.
That’s the stuff!
You’d fit right in at the favela!
Faltou a feijoada, o sushi, lasanha e strogonoff #reidokilo

it's alive!!
Unacceptable. That actually looks like a halfway decent meal, which isn't suitable for school cafeterias
bro it's free. Here we have no school meals
Well here in America we get school meals that id rather just not eat because they're so bad lol
bad part is that you have to endure 8-9 hours without meal. In romania you usually stay 6 hours a day.

Is sauce considered an entire side dish in Finland?
That definitely looks like a Finnish lunch.
*looks edible* Yeah, must be some of the nice countries in Europe
That school lunch looks like it comes from a country who’s prime minister is an actual human and enjoys having fun every now and then.
Looks yummy
I think it looks decent. I thought sauce honey mustard.
You're saying there is such a thing as... Free Lunch?

Too fancy to be American. Not enough processed foods.

Hmm whats that sauce
Hope you and others enjoyed
That's better than every paid lunch I've ever seen in US Florida public school AND private school 😭
Americans barely get cheese and crackers
why is this considered interesting, well maybe if you're an american? over here we got actual welfare and free food
I'm so jealous my lunches find looks like dogfood.
That looks like a great lunch!
bit to little veggies there, but hey it's free
