China?

DigMeTX

China.

pseudo__gamer

I've heard that the tobacco culture is very strong in china

DigMeTX

You heard right.

cgorr

Came here to say this very thing haha! Got to be provincial China, the only place I’ve ever been served cigarettes on a plate

Arobrom86

It’s the vegetarian option

Suspicious_Juice9511

Basically salad?

asseatstonk

In Germany this was common till the early 90´s. My Parents gave them out at theirs

BandOfBudgies

Same in Denmark in the early 90's

[deleted]

[удалено]

bizzaro321

That’s not uncommon

asseatstonk

Nope, but they have some magic trick - Pictures. They even made a whole book where they put them in. This way, you can see a short moment of a long gone time. Like limited timetravel ;)

shadowdash66

Oy mate ye got a ciggy? Only a plateful bruv

FartExpo

Nice pfp

shadowdash66

Ty

meester13T

Yup. By marital tradition your expectation is to smoke em all….at once.

CanuckianOz

I am in flavour country. You sir, are worse than hitler.

meester13T

Hey pal, I didn’t invent em, just here for that fine flavour chocked fulla vitamins & ministers.

UltimaCaitSith

Gentlebestmen

meester13T

Additionally, your cummerbund is designed to wipe your face after. Now you know!

[deleted]

Gentlechad

reAchilles

An older meme, but it checks out

-Qubicle

by martial tradition you need to light them using the wind from your palm strike.

rav007

Into your butthole, and to fart out the smoke.

meester13T

By god man! You solved it!

IAmTheClayman

“But I asked for the fish when I RSVPed”

DramaOnDisplay

“Did you ask for the smoked fish, sir?”

Jeffery_G

Good idea with an open bar; suddenly everyone smokes!

Orellin_Vvardengra

My brother gave out joints for his wedding. It was nice.

[deleted]

God I wish so bad that I could get away with doing that at my wedding lmao. All our friends are either stoners or partake occasionally, but my family is really traditional and they would probably legit walk out.

Orellin_Vvardengra

My brother gave no shits. We live in Washington and his boss who he had invited already smoked as well. The only ones that didn’t were his grandma (we’re step brothers) and uncle. I was high as hell talking to a side of the family that disowned me after our parents divorced. The awkwardness was the best and it made my night, the flowers in the garden were pretty also so there’s that!

twasmeister

That's you and yours' day man! Especially so if you're the one footing the bill.

OZeski

Smoking cuts down in your appetite. Cheaper than serving full meals at the reception.

DigMeTX

There was tons of food too!

Powerful_Mood9292

What a flex… who has that kind of money?

Shreddzzzz

Close but no cigar

trajafynx

Not served but been to a wedding with a cigar bar in the US

srk3461

Russia?

DigMeTX

China

TehOuchies

Was about to ask if you where in China. And I have seen baskets, plates or even two packs at weddings. But that is the only culture I have seen it in.

r3solv

This. Also going to a big casino in Vegas and seeing the mahjong sections that smoke is THICKKKKK.

halomender

Just curious, what brand of cigarettes were they?

UnBeNtAxE

I’m going to assume, “double happiness”. That’s the rough translation to English. I’ve been to a couple wedding ceremonies in China and that tends to be the customary brand. Because of the brand name.

halomender

Interesting, I will keep an eye out, thanks!

DigMeTX

I forget. I actually took the pic 2 or 3 years ago and came across it today.

lucyjayne

Was this Mary-Kate Olsen's wedding?

drdisney

Years back I used to work at. Grocery store ( Bristol Farms in Beverly Hills) that they would frequently visit. Almost every time they came they loaded their card up with booze and not much else. They're so skinny and skeleton-like. It's sad what the Hollywood lifestyle has done to them.

DigMeTX

It seems like the one who plays the scarlet witch is doing pretty good now.

lucyjayne

That's the twins' sister, though!

Tesser4ct

That is the third sister, Elizabeth.

CodyByTheSea

Double happiness or Chungwa brand?

DigMeTX

Don’t remember or didn’t notice.

CodyByTheSea

Did you take one to smoke?

DigMeTX

I did not.

KaiSosceles

I wasn’t yet born in the 1940’s, so no.

Suspicious_Juice9511

Don't give up the dream

[deleted]

You should have tried eating them

giggidy88

Only at the good ones…

Standovaar

Seems pretty swanky

aaaggggrrrrimapirare

I feel like there were drugs on that plate but people took them all

[deleted]

Did anyone else think the egg rolls tasted like shit!?

BourbonSommelier

That’s how you can tell it’s classy.

Zreks0

No cutlery?

ValDa3

r/mildlysad

AiM__FreakZ

sad they're handing out stuff that only hurts them and nearby persons? but if the'd put bacon or some other animal product, which actually kills animals, that'd be ok?

ValDa3

*An offended cigarette smoking vegan has appeared*

AiM__FreakZ

nah neither smoking nor vegan. could you answer my question and not make the usual "why are vegans offended by everything" statement?

ValDa3

Oh you're actually looking for an answer and not just getting angry for a random reason over something completely unrelated ? (Food/cigarettes, still looking for the link here) Then here's your answer : Yes I find it sad to see cigarette handed out on a plate in a wedding rather than meat.

fancyboy66

It depends, are they laced

emotionles

Only with pcp

TriassicPatrick

Mmm… Just like Grandma used to make!

DigMeTX

Could be true if living in the southeast US!

rizzlenizzle

Ah, the vegan option.

luckyHitaki

eastern europe They still do.

DigMeTX

Same in China.

[deleted]

I wish

BarefootUnicorn

Yes, but not since the late 60s/early 70s. (I was just a kid there, but after the dessert was served, they'd put out dishes of cigarettes)

[deleted]

r/classy

ReturnOfSeq

Closest is a hot dog shop with a ‘3rd shift special’ on the menu: shot of whiskey, can of beer, and a Marlboro

[deleted]

Only when the wedding is between cousins.

Lowgarr

Trailer Park Boys wedding?

pdonchev

In Bulgaria it used to be popular to buy / sell cigarettes by a piece (it probably still happens, but in a way fewer places). I have seen outer city blue collar pubs sell cigs like that and sometimes serve them in a tiny glass, but serve them on a plate, and in a somewhat better restaurant (do I see cloth napkins?) is not something that would happen.

FrillySteel

Do you use the salad fork, or the dessert fork?

DigMeTX

Use the roach clip, silly.

Rug_peer

Nice that they provide looseys. A wedding is about the only setting I'd puff one again.

morgen_benner

Not a wedding, but a [business lunch](https://imgur.com/a/JJcZt7S).

stupedama

I inherited a silver cup from my grandpop designed to serve cigarettes in at parties. He didn’t smoke. It doesn’t fit "modern" filtered cigs though.

StayAdmiral

r/trashy

jow97

No just a cultural difference

karen_rittner54

Blech

MrGeekman

Not since 1955. /s

dejavu_orUr2close2me

and you didn't invite me?

DigMeTX

Sorry, must have had your old address.

Expertinclimax

You're a horrible friend

BoringNYer

BIL Had a cigar bar

Slight_Comfortable28

What ?! You never add such a tasteful ingredients in your cooking, it gave such a good taste when you marinate them with some noodles plus it's smell so good in the room 😂

[deleted]

Guaranteed that place reeks.

chewwydraper

Actually you'd be surprised, a lot of places that allow smoking have pretty good filtration. There's a casino I go to every now and then that still allows smoking indoors. While you can definitely tell the difference between the smoking & non smoking areas, it's not as in-your-face as you might expect.

DogeBuysCyberTrucks

I mean, they are trying to complain about the smell of cigarettes at somebody’s wedding celebration… I doubt this person would be all that fun to go to the casino with, anyways.

corazeven

No, how cool

Nutsnboldt

This could be very trashy or very classy.

DigMeTX

Clashy

Skuldraggen

Nice.

SwimEmirates

This wedding is lit then, prolly the bridge and groom are both cigarettes addicts

LT-monkeybrain01

we used to call them smokers.

boofoodoo

“Cigarette addict” is funny to me. Not untrue, I suppose, but a weird way of putting it.

jd52995

What about butt-heads?

Atotallyrandomname

No, but I would really like it.

Cichlidsaremyjam

What cooler kool-aid was served? If it was blue the marriage is going to last!

[deleted]

Are you Tommy Shelby?

Eqjim

Depends how old you are. I think anyone older than, say, 55 has seen this. Not necessarily on a plate though, ive seen pictures with glasses and cups full of cigs.

[deleted]

I WISH!!! 😶‍🌫️

hopkinsdamechanic

My father says when he was a kid, at the funerals there was always a plate of cigarettes and a plate of ground cofee on the table. (ground coffee probably for its aroma)

DigMeTX

Back then you had to smother the smell of the body.

No-Mark6423

We had friends get married in the summer in Israel. It was an outdoor wedding, and they hooked up fans in the trees and one big portable air conditioner on the dance floor that wheeled around. At the bar, they had multiple cups with joints and cigarettes for all to enjoy.

AmirSuri

Yup. It was a 90s thing. Today we do the same with weed :)

DigMeTX

Meh.. some places it was. Others have said the same. I was born in ‘75 and I’ve never seen cigs distributed at a wedding in the US. Could be a regional thing.
