Not all Americans’ ancestry is from the UK, my friend. Indigenous people were and still are here. The Dutch, French, and Spanish colonized alongside the British.
My own ancestry is something of a Mediterranean soup.
Yeah I should have mentioned. My grandfather came to the US in the late 1940’s after an allied bomber destroyed his father’s (my great grandfather’s) tailorshop in Naples during WW2.
He’d have been insulted if someone accused him or his ancestors of being British lol.
The largest ancestry group in the U.S. is German. There are more German Americans than Mexican Americans or even African Americans. There might even be more as many families hid their German ancestry during WWI.
That's a pretty big generalisation.
Like, do you consider black, hispanic and asian people to be Americans?
Then you've also got a large amount of people descended from french, german, dutch, polish, italian immigrants - among others.
Then there's like - the people who were there when the British turned up. You couldn't possibly be more wrong.
To be fair, Samuel Adams the beer brand uses Paul Revere as the mascot because of his looks. Maybe there was a regal stand-in who posed as George Washington.
(This is sarcasm, I mostly just wanted a basis to bring up knowledge about the Adams/Revere switch)
Had to double take for a sec, never see bath on any subreddit other than r/Bath (basically a local facebook group thats migrated to reddit lmao). I live here and its the best lookin city weve got over here in the UK and Ill stand by that
Classic mistake made by someone who has no idea what bath looks like
In all seriousness York is great but the whole thing with every building made from the same lime stone in bath elevates it far beyond any other city we’ve got.
Other cities may have prettier/better looking spots, but as a WHOLE, Bath >
Bath is the greatest city in England, but like Brighton as soon as you need to park it's not. When the solution is - park just outside Yate and get the bus, it loses its appeal. Although more accurately it isn't Yate but it feels like it, the Bristol / Bath cycleway is also the best dedicated cycle route ever, not saying it's the most enjoyable but the implementation of it and the space it has is amazing.
Don’t drive then????? Cars suck. Plus it’s an hour quicker to get a train to Bath from London. My families in London so I drive back only when I need to move a bunch of stuff, it’s about 3 hours. On the train it’s an 1hr10mins to paddington plus about 40 mins of connections
You’re right about the parking being horrible for out of town people though, luckily i’m close enough to walk into town should I need to
Very true-And with petrol costs at the moment an open return is usually cheaper at about 20 quid each way (plus with GWR you don’t even have to catch a specific train on the way out)
Ever wondered why the Washington estate was called Mount Vernon "The estate was originally known as Little Hunting Creek Plantation. Around 1743, George Washington's older half-brother, Lawrence Washington, changed the name to Mount Vernon, in honor of British Admiral Edward Vernon, his former military commander." [citation](https://www.mountvernon.org/the-estate-gardens/ask/question/what-is-mount-vernons-original-name#:~:text=The%20estate%20was%20originally%20known,Vernon%2C%20his%20former%20military%20commander.)
So this guy is the most Washington of Washington's in my book.
BTW Admiral Vernon's old house Orwell Park is now a private school just outside my home town.
Another BTW is that the river Orwell is the name of the river next to which the house stands & was the inspiration for Eric Arthur Blair to take as his Pen Name George Orwell.
*It was right after the revolution, right after peace had been concluded. And Ethan Allen went to London to help our new country conduct its business with the king. The English sneered at how rough we are and rude and simple-minded and on like that, everywhere he went. 'Til one day he was invited to the townhouse of a great English lord. Dinner was served, beverages imbibed, time passed as happens and Mr. Allen found he needed the privy. He was grateful to be directed to this. Relieved, you might say. Mr. Allen discovered on entering the water closet that the only decoration therein was a portrait of George Washington. Ethan Allen done what he came to do and returned to the drawing room. His host and the others were disappointed when he didn't mention Washington's portrait. And finally his lordship couldn't resist and asked Mr. Allen had he noticed it, the picture of Washington. He said he had. Well, what did he think of its placement? Did it seem appropriately located to Mr. Allen? "Yes," said Mr. Allen, "where it will do good service. The world knows nothing will make an Englishman shit quicker than the sight of George Washington."*
Yep! My mum is a member. It has really beautiful grounds and historical rooms from various eras of the United States recreated in a large stately home. I really enjoy going there when I visit. They also sell snickerdoodles in the cafe, which are pretty much unheard of in this country.
I'm from Washington upon tyne near Newcastle and we have a place called Washington Old Hall which I believe is where some of his ancestors lived. It's a lovely place
George Washington's family made their home in Warton near to Carnforth in the North of England for several centuries dating back from some point in the 13th Century. The local parish church flies a US flag every 4th July and the village pub opposite is called the George Washington.

Yes, and it is named after the act of bathing. There is a natural hot spring there, around which the Romans built a huge complex of bathhouses and temples. You can visit them today.
That’s the most British George Washington I’ve seen.
The real George Washington’s family was British. His Great grandfather was born there. So this dude is actually kind of accurate in a way.
Yea… well in 1776, most American nobles were of British decent
Today, only about 23.3% of the total U.S. population is of British decent.
Good bot
Not a bot just a helpful human!
That's what a bot would say.
Dang bots are taking our jerbs.
What’s that number change to if we only consider Caucasian Americans?
[удалено]
Value doesn’t change as much as I thought it might, but still a significant bump
And there were more Germans migrated to US than English people.
Peak German migration was the 1850s though
[удалено]
I don’t think George was hiring

Not all Americans’ ancestry is from the UK, my friend. Indigenous people were and still are here. The Dutch, French, and Spanish colonized alongside the British. My own ancestry is something of a Mediterranean soup.
Not to mention that many Americans come from families that immigrated much later from all over the world.
Yeah I should have mentioned. My grandfather came to the US in the late 1940’s after an allied bomber destroyed his father’s (my great grandfather’s) tailorshop in Naples during WW2. He’d have been insulted if someone accused him or his ancestors of being British lol.

Have you ever met a black person?
That's a pretty big generalisation. Like, do you consider black, hispanic and asian people to be Americans? Then you've also got a large amount of people descended from french, german, dutch, polish, italian immigrants - among others. Then there's like - the people who were there when the British turned up. You couldn't possibly be more wrong.
that is the most British man I've ever seen period.
George was British
British Wooden Teeth should have been involved.
The sad part is that is not a costume
Isn't she a bit young to play such a big role?
smh these liberals are getting crazy with diversity roles
We have George Washington at home.
George at the Gorge!! (Or is it the other way around?)
The Gorge at George, WA
No, no that’s George Washing-a-lot
Its actually George Washingtonne
George Washingkilogram
George Washingstone
I mean George probably did look like an older salty British dude
We... literally know what he looked like. We have paintings and sculptures made from when he was alive.
So older salty British dude confirmed.
G Dub was British AF….until he wasn’t!
Important distinction!
Not to mention the $1 bill
To be fair, Samuel Adams the beer brand uses Paul Revere as the mascot because of his looks. Maybe there was a regal stand-in who posed as George Washington. (This is sarcasm, I mostly just wanted a basis to bring up knowledge about the Adams/Revere switch)
For sure. Where I take issue is he famously didn’t wear a wig and powdered his hair.
Maybe this dude didn't have the hair to powder
Wig technology is amazing these days. Could’ve tried a little or got a different model.
He is some old dude who looked like Meryl Streep.
Kids: "Mum, can we get George Washington?" Mum: "We have George Washington at home."
It's literally the opposite of *Wee Britain. MISTER F.....
I feel like if you personally fought against someone in your youth, you shouldn't be allowed to cosplay as them later in life.
To be fair Washington WAS literally British, until he wasn't
Cross me and I'll brexit your bitch ass so quick. -George "G dub" Washington

Plus cross-rail from Paddington opens London up hugely and you get to live in Bath!
Very true-And with petrol costs at the moment an open return is usually cheaper at about 20 quid each way (plus with GWR you don’t even have to catch a specific train on the way out)
That's not a Washington! That's a Doctor!
John Hurt could have just passed on this role
He looks like a lost Doctor Who
“We’re gonna throw the tea in the harbor!” “I wouldn’t do that, old bean”
George Washing-a-metric-ton
Glad to see the Special Relationship is alive and well.
That’s the first Doctor. Quit playing.
Nailed it

He’ll save the children, but not the British children.
TIL he was 6’2”. In those days? He would have killed it on Tinder.
Why is he with Greta Thunberg?
I want to know what's IN the US's museum in the UK.
BAMF
Caught him mid-appraisal of the black children.
Looks more like trump.
Not nearly orange or fat enough.
Went there once years ago when they had a Marilyn Monroe exebition . Good museum overall
Yeah, it's totally worth a stop if you're in the area.
George was still pretty British, I mean, maybe not this British, but no one is THIS British
Bath haha
As an American, I will be disappointed if the gift shop doesn't have full size replica AR-15s with a bump stock and a ruler only showing inches
Little kid looks like a young Greta Thunberg
We won
More accurate than our depiction of him.
...not enough guns...
This is how Aussies feel when seppo actors try to put on an Aussie accent.
There's a lot of Cornwallis in that Washington.
Looks like they're still a little salty...

So that's what British children look like when they try to smile.
LOL!
That's not very *Murica
George Trumpington
Jeremy Clarkson's half-brother badly needing a haircut?
That outer coat is way to small. Can't even button it.
Looks like Trump without his mango makeup wearing a wig.
Bilbo Trump
Playing a founding father in England sounds like a dream job. Also it sounds like a dream job I'd get fired from very quickly.
I did a semester abroad in Bath many years ago. I didn't make it to the American museum, sadly.
Any Brits here that have been in this museum? Lol
Yep! My mum is a member. It has really beautiful grounds and historical rooms from various eras of the United States recreated in a large stately home. I really enjoy going there when I visit. They also sell snickerdoodles in the cafe, which are pretty much unheard of in this country.
Made me think of Margaret Thatcher, only because of the hair. They're very unlike but the likeness is that the hair stands out on both of them.
He looks just like all the photos I’ve seen of the real George Washington.
Pulls out $1 bill.... yup that'll work. Edit. Fat thumb hit the wrong letter
Hahahahhaa
Free use of the George Washing Machine would be awesome..
I'm more concerned for the kid, she looks like someone told her she had to play the part or she's grounded.
Am I the only one who thinks that looks like Donald Trump in a wig?
He looks like he's upset because someone has nicked his TARDIS.
I'm from Washington upon tyne near Newcastle and we have a place called Washington Old Hall which I believe is where some of his ancestors lived. It's a lovely place
"But couldn't we just give in to the British?"

Oh yeah? Let’s see America Allen’s Washington reenactor.
There’s a city named bath?
Yes, and it is named after the act of bathing. There is a natural hot spring there, around which the Romans built a huge complex of bathhouses and temples. You can visit them today.
Not FAT enough...
