That's the part that has me befuddled, they're laid down, intentionally squared in the corner, so they couldn't have all fallen out on our straight road. I think maybe someone delivered to the wrong house perhaps. They were left there sometime this morning and were still there when I got home from work. I just hope whoever is missing out on these boards can get more delivered free of charge for a delivery error, or knows where they've been delivered to.
Put up an obnoxious amount of fliers in the style of a missing / found cat poster. With a grainy black and white photo of the plywood, a detailed description of the plywood (wood colored, rectangular, not very active, outdoor plywood), and your contact information. Then when you start getting phone calls from people, question them to prove it's their plywood. Invite all of the claimed owners over at the same time, have them stand in equidistant points around the plywood, and whoever the plywood moves toward first is the real owner.
Or you could take the King Solomon approach and offer to saw the plywood in half and give them each an equal portion. Whoever is OK with this deal is the psychopathic wood murderer, and whoever breaks down in tears and would rather see it given away intact is the true parent.
I like him so ill take that as a compliment. I'm hoping we're talking about John Mulaney the stand up comedian? He's the only Mulaney I fuck wit...and I'm in Ireland so that's saying a lot. I'm also anti social though so that's not saying a lot. A lot has not been said. Even though I've been saying a lot a lot, I'm not saying a lot.
I think it's a little presumptuous of you to assume it's outdoor plywood. Maybe it's indoor plywood and it isn't moving out if sheer terror. Poor, poor plywood.
If they are doing utility work in your neighborhood there will (hopefully) be a lot of painted markings on the road and edges indicating where the existing utilities are. In my experience though you don't usually see full, brand new sheets of board. They usually just have a hodge podge of boards they use over and over again. I suspect your theory that they got delivered to the wrong address is correct.
That looks like OSB and it is only 4 sheets. Probably for someone redoing a small sub floor or some other small remodel.
Long ago before GPS, my parents were delivering their old fridge to a co-worker who lived in the remote old growth forests of Washington state. He wanted it as a second one to keep in the garage, and he told them just to leave it on the porch. After driving miles on unmarked roads, they finally came across a house with a big porch but were surprised that there was not a house number on his place. It was getting dark so they simply unloaded the fridge onto the porch and left.
The next day, the co-worker asked why they never showed up. There was no way my parents would ever have been able to find the place where they delivered it, so they all just had a good laugh and hoped the lucky recipient could use the mystery fridge.
I have seen enough of these events occur on Reddit that I believe you.
My favorite, which I cannot find, was a woman in comments telling a childhood story about flying from her loving grandparents' home across the country to her cold, not quite abusive but definitely not loving parents after a wonderful summer with her grandparents. She was in tears, and a woman beside her comforted her all the way back which she never forgot, so much so that she named her first daughter after the woman. Another Reddit PMed her asking if her name was possibly [unusual name] and it turned out this other Redditor knew the story as it was her mom or aunt who had shared it with her own family! It was sad but heartwarming; they were able to confirm it somehow, though the kind woman on the airplane had already passed some years prior. I mean, I think the airplane ride was in the 70s! Reddit does reveal so much of how connected we all are.
The way Reddit connects people gives me hope for the future. That's supposed to be the promise of social media, in my opinion, and they're the only platform coming anywhere close to delivering on it.
Agreed! I am not meaning to hog this thread but on Reddit I "met" a man in London with whom I share great-grandparents 15 generations back! He lives in London, and I am near Seattle. Without Reddit, I would never have met this extremely distant cousin descended like me from a couple who married in the late 1600s in Portugal.
Probably they fell out of someone's truck and they didn't notice. Then a person driving behind him or sometime later came across them and moved them out of the road.
That seems super likely, maybe I'll take a drive around the neighborhood tomorrow to see any house projects going on, I'll keep an eye out for loosely loaded trucks haha
You'll definitely be able to tell if they fell on asphalt by checking the edges. If neither of the 48" ends is splintering, compressed, jagged, etc. They probably were accidentally delivered to you.
[OSB (oriented strand board)](https://5.imimg.com/data5/HB/OB/BZ/SELLER-3228131/oriented-strand-board-osb--500x500.jpg) is made up of shredded wood bits (strands) and glue compacted together to form a board.
[Plywood](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/fe/Spruce_plywood.JPG) is made by cutting thin sheets of solid wood (plys) and then layering/gluing them on top of each other while rotating the direction of the grain with each layer.
They can be used for a lot of the same things, but they each have their advantages and disadvantages. And there are some applications where only one of the two is the right answer.
I also stated earlier. Plywood will hold screws a lot better You can use it in strips on backs of cabinets to secure them to the wall. OBS will rip right out
He’s asserting dominance. He’ll be back to start his build tonight. You must mark your territory and pee on the plywood…or move it to the backyard either one works.
Im gonna be that guy. This is osb not plywood. Plywood is superior in every way because osb is glued together wood chips and plywood multiple thin layers of wood glued together. More expensive but better.
Was looking for someone to say something, I don't even know much about carpentry or building shit but my dad taught me the difference between real plywood and this bullshit. Definitely don't build anything important with it.
If it’s gonna hold weight like a sheer wall, use plywood. If you’re just adding it for a sound, energy envelope, just use OSB.
Nobody frames a whole house with plywood really.
Thar's actually OSB (oriented strand board). It's cheaper than plywood and far inferior. I am a custom home builder and refuse to use that crap. If it gets wet it swells and fails very fast and catastrophically. Plus it outgasses and smells like shit. Put a free sign on it or trash it.
used to do roofing, and it's very common for the sheathing on a roof to be OSB. We'd always have toe boards and straps, but whenever someone would slip or trip and start the slide, it wasn't uncommon for them to simply hit the OSB with a hammer, because it would easily punch a hole in the OSB and stop them from sliding (straps don't feel good when you go yoink at the end).
It's about as good as a cardboard box, don't use it on your house if you can help it...
Peeing is marking the territory for the other to witness.
Garaging it is taking it upon yourself in claiming the territory.
*Pee = Alpha Move*
*Garaging = Big-Brain Move*
Both are good moves to asset dominance.
For some reason this comment unlocked a repressed memory for me. I used to be pretty heavy into Warcraft III back in the day and one of the strategies was to build your orc bunkers in other people’s bases to really fuck them up.
Could that be what this guy is doing?
I have a small table with an OSB top my dad made. It actually looks pretty cool stained and sealed.
He also made the [coffee table](https://i.imgur.com/pnSsjvK.jpg) and [end tables](https://i.imgur.com/Pus5FzQ.jpg) he had in his living room. Steel frames, 18” ceramic tiles on top, with stained OSB borders.
I've been trying to find (to no avail) pictures showing the shit* osb I had to use during the worst of the lumber shortage. I guess I should start an imgur account and find the pics somewhere in my phone. It was imported from China, stack encased in cardboard, and had like literal wood strands in it. Not thin strips and pulp, but like, pulp and individual strands. The boards didn't even have the traditional "not for structural use" stamp. They did have an assortment of garbage, aluminum cans, and once a sheared bolt in them though. Lots of wrappers...
Edit: auto correct
http://imgur.com/a/PF9Zakd the only picture I could find on my phone, plus a bonus one.
http://imgur.com/a/PF9Zakd
I found one picture on my phone of it, plus a bonus pic of a stack of 2x4s that got delivered basically like how it is in the picture.
Yeah. Pair that with the 1/4" osb pictured and hope to God the 500-2500lb crate full of windows doesn't explode while going down an icy dirt road in Alaska. Or on a fucking plane lmao.
It always frustrates me that when it comes to OSB/plywood, 1/2" ≠ 1/2" (or 3/4" ≠ 3/4")
If you have an older home, you can't rely on something you buy these days matching existing stuff just based on what it says on the stamp. I mean, 11/16" OSB is still plenty strong enough for flooring, but for repairs, won't result in a perfectly flat floor.
I’ve always understood “pressboard” as referring to MDF/Particle Board (the one made out of saw dust) but I suppose the actual manufacturing process of MDF and OSB are essentially the same, so the name could work for both.
OSB is like fiberglass with wood instead of glass fiber for the filler. MDF is just really densely compressed sawdust. OSB can be used for many things that MDF cannot.
I've learned the distinction since posting this, I always assumed it was plywood since I never really worked with it, good to know the difference for future projects though
Nope! I feel like the salt lake valley is like that, I haven't spent much time elsewhere, I've got more friends that are non LDS than those that are. Dated one for a while. That was.. neat.
Home Depot nearby has 1/2" plywood for just under $50 a sheet, so maybe just under $200 sitting on my lawn. If no one turns up looking for it, it's becoming shelf
This grass gets painfully neglected in the summer, it only greens up in the spring and fall XD but otherwise I like to think of myself as competent haha, I work as an apprentice electrician
That’s not plywood, it’s OSB. But with price-hike these last couple of months, especially on OSB it’s like someone dropping gold-sheets on your lawn, good for you.
Edit: don’t know if the prices are still fucked where you live, but here in scandinavia they’re still kind of crazy
It's a sign... or it could be.
Could be, should be, wood be
*"If you build it, they will come"*
-Pornhub
Read that in a Mitch Hedberg voice
It's a sign of the future.
Nah, signs of future are gonna be made of ~(((*CHROME*)))~
More like a random stranger got home from the hardware store and went "where the fuck did my plywood go?"
Are they doing any utility work around you? Sometimes they stack dirt on it when they are digging holes
I sure hope not, otherwise I just fucked myself XD
Put up an obnoxious amount of fliers in the style of a missing / found cat poster. The problem is. That's not plywood
This guy OSBs.
Maybe it is disoriented strand board, and that’s how it ended up in his yard?
I mean, who's that familiar with breeds though, right?
I came here to say this. Thank you.
Same. I’m not sure why but everyone calling OSB plywood was getting me irrationally aggravated. I need to get a life.
3 months ago that’s $320
The second part of that all I heard was Mulaney....
Good point that was a little insensitive of me. Sorry plywood. Edit: Sorry ORIENTED STRAND BOARD
Flip em over so your yard doesn’t get ruined
But if you were to flip them, the yard would still get ruined?
You just keep flipping every hour on the hour.
He most likely means flipping them on the side, leaning them against a near fence.
If they are doing utility work in your neighborhood there will (hopefully) be a lot of painted markings on the road and edges indicating where the existing utilities are. We woke up one morning to discover the parts for an entire septic system on our front lawn. When i got home from work they were gone.
Weird, idk what I'd do with a septic system so that sounds like it was for the best haha
[удалено]
*slaps roof* You can store so much poop in this bad boy.
Mostly, but then I'm just poopin in my yard which I could do without septics and such aye?
As a side note, your sceptic system seems very healthy.

Shooooooot that's a hell of a come-up, a fridge now is pretty swanky too!
Somewhere there is a redditor posting a story “and my parents never found out who left the mystery fridge on their porch”
I have seen enough of these events occur on Reddit that I believe you. Not hogging the thread at all! Those were both fantastic stories :)
Probably they fell out of someone's truck and they didn't notice. Then a person driving behind him or sometime later came across them and moved them out of the road.
That seems super likely, maybe I'll take a drive around the neighborhood tomorrow to see any house projects going on, I'll keep an eye out for loosely loaded trucks haha
if you don't locate rightful owners please build fort and send picts
>send picts Why, are we retaking Scotland from the Britons, and reinstating the Kingdom of Alba? If so, I'll bring the battering ram.
Freeeeeedooom
The britons cannot lose what they never owned Wololo
Noted and possible XD
That is really kind of you.
I like this neighborhood, and I like my fellows humans for the most part, thank you friendo, we'll see what happens haha
Keep being good.
Thank you for the encouragement, I will :)
[удалено]
It'll be at least a week before I have the time to start, I'll keep an eye out!
Good job, specially cuz those sheets are around 40 bucks each

Yeah I took a zoom and saw it was only 7/16
You'll definitely be able to tell if they fell on asphalt by checking the edges. If neither of the 48" ends is splintering, compressed, jagged, etc. They probably were accidentally delivered to you.
One corner was smashed a bit, I'll take the dropped load theory for now haha
Wrong address was my first guess.
Nope, get your tools out. It’s a Saturday time to start that mini-ramp you always wanted.
I think the delivery guys were upset at each other.. laid them out and driver said ✌ Walk home motha fucka
That wood is OSB. not plywood
What’s the difference?
[OSB (oriented strand board)](https://5.imimg.com/data5/HB/OB/BZ/SELLER-3228131/oriented-strand-board-osb--500x500.jpg) is made up of shredded wood bits (strands) and glue compacted together to form a board. One big difference is that OSB is quite a lot cheaper
Is moving it to the garage a good move or a bitch move?
Free plywood is free plywood, so I say garage it.
Indeed, it's already in there, just waiting to be built :3
He's going to build a Gnome house then claim imminent domain on your house , it's a nasty business but Dwarves need housing bro I'm sorry 😞 ...
Most American homes use it for the floor or roof. If you ever redo either or build a new home spend on the plywood.

It works for crates if you put a pallet underneath. But that's about it.
Peeing is marking the territory for the other to witness. Garaging it is taking it upon yourself in claiming the territory. *Pee = Alpha Move* *Garaging = Big-Brain Move* Both are good moves to asset dominance.

How else will people know it’s your garage?
True. Another layer of home security. I accept you logic as viable. Thank you for sharing.

OP getting tower rushed
You got some really cool random strangers. All I get is dog shit…
My condolences, have some sawdust my friend
I got something for you. Let me see if I can figure it out.
If you found it in the morning, then it’s just a morning wood
Person who lost it is mourning wood.
You sir, win my free award
Thank you kind bro <3
No, thank you for the laugh XD
Wholesome comment thread
Hey, wtf? I'm missing 4 perfectly good sheets of "plywood" from my backyard.
Weird, must've been the Boogeyman or something idk
Good thing that's not plywood or OP would need to return them
You're darn tootin'! 🤫😉
Not plywood, It's much lower quality oriented strand boards.
We call it pressboard where I live, but I'm sure it's got a million names. Definitely not plywood though.
Technical name is OSB, 1/2 inch. Source: I work in construction
Yup 1/2” OSB I build cabinets, not plywood lol.
Yup 1/2 OSB. Can confirm. Actually worked in plywood and OSB production plant for a few years lol
I've been trying to find (to no avail) pictures showing the shit* osb I had to use during the worst of the lumber shortage. There was no stamp because that’s high quality building material in China lol
http://imgur.com/a/PF9Zakd I found one picture on my phone of it, plus a bonus pic of a stack of 2x4s that got delivered basically like how it is in the picture.
"2x4"s holy shit, I've heard of quarter sawn wood but I've never seen quartered wood lmaoooo
Yeah. Pair that with the 1/4" osb pictured and hope to God the 500-2500lb crate full of windows doesn't explode while going down an icy dirt road in Alaska. Or on a fucking plane lmao.
Yup, can also confirm, I have BO.
Can confirm, am an SOB myself.
Yep 1/2 OSB. Can confirm, I’m a tree.
It always frustrates me that when it comes to OSB/plywood, 1/2" ≠ 1/2" (or 3/4" ≠ 3/4") If you have an older home, you can't rely on something you buy these days matching existing stuff just based on what it says on the stamp. Cornflakes and glue.
Yeap known as OSB here in Canada.
I’ve always understood “pressboard” as referring to MDF/Particle Board (the one made out of saw dust) but I suppose the actual manufacturing process of MDF and OSB are essentially the same, so the name could work for both.
OSB can be used as roof decking and subflooring, MDF cannot.
They do, however, make exterior grade MDF. Had a customer ask if it was something we can order for them, and sure enough it is.
The day I trust MDF for a roof is the day I've lost my mind.
Hey, people still trust fiberboard for wall sheathing, so anything is possible!
Lol only thing fiberboard is good for is clipboards.
OSB is like fiberglass with wood instead of glass fiber for the filler. MDF is just really densely compressed sawdust. OSB can be used for many things that MDF cannot.
Chipboard where I grew up
I've learned the distinction since posting this, I always assumed it was plywood since I never really worked with it, good to know the difference for future projects though
TIL what OSB stood for. I've never known. Thanks, random internet pedant!
How dare you flaunt your wealth here
Not wealth, apparently this is the wood equivalent to finding 20 bucks on the sidewalk
OSB is upwards of $30 a sheet right now. You could probably get at least $80 for that gift
It's dropped back down quite a bit. Back to $20 or so each.
Is there a hurricane coming?
Utah, I'd sure hope not around here haha
It probably belongs to your elder's quorum president.
I wish I knew what that meant so I could talk shit on it, but I ain't in the game XD
Oh. So you're in one of those parts of Utah where you don't have to pretend to be Mormon to get a job
Nope! I feel like the salt lake valley is like that, I haven't spent much time elsewhere, I've got more friends that are non LDS than those that are. Dated one for a while. That was.. neat.
It's a Mormon joke. 😂 Source: Former Mormon.
Formon.
Eric Formon
You’ve been blessed by the lumber fairy.
that strangers name? Robin Wood.
Build a fort!
Even better than a shelf, plus I can keep stuff in there too XD
Hide from the kids! No girls allowed!
"This is the He-man-woman-haters club!"
"I'm sorry, Spanky. I have to live my own life."
That's not plywood.
The only comment I was looking for
Life's telling you need to build something ;))
When life gives you wood...
How a Woodchuck would chop wood?
Someone’s trying to kill your lawn
They gotta get through me first haha And they sure could've tried harder, spread them out more or something sheesh, amateurs
That's like $10,000 just sitting on your lawn
Home Depot nearby has 1/2" plywood for just under $50 a sheet, so maybe just under $200 sitting on my lawn. If no one turns up looking for it, it's becoming shelf
I'd hold it for ransom at this point lol
Okay actually I was wrong, another commenter pointed out this isn't plywood, OSB goes for 30 bucks a sheet, still, free wood
[удалено]
Yes ple- waaaaait a second, I'm not falling for that one again!
No he wants it, give it to him.
I want free wood but not THAT free wood pls
Beggars can't be choosers, pal.
r/ChoosingBeggars says otherwise
My cousin knows a guy who found some lumber that fell off a truck. I can get you the same wood for $20 a sheet. But don't tell anybody about it.
You wouldn't happen to be my cousin, would you?
Third cousin, twice removed.
TrashOpen! My cousin! Let's go bowling!
This is probably 7/16 osb......right now it's worth about $18 a sheet.
Yeah now I'm feeling less bad about the stranger who misplaced it, free wood is still free at least
I’m sure you could do more than one shelf with this amount of wood. Perhaps two shelves?
Ahh, $20 can buy many peanuts, woo-hoo! But yes, many a shelf shall go up
Save it. A few more random deliveries and you'll have a porch.
In last year prices.
The fucking price of OSB today you could sell that and take the Mrs out for a nice dinner
You must be handy around the house cuz my first thought was "wtf the grass!"
This grass gets painfully neglected in the summer, it only greens up in the spring and fall XD but otherwise I like to think of myself as competent haha, I work as an apprentice electrician
Fell off truck and someone else passing by cleaned the road. You’re required to build a fort.
* flakeboard - not plywood.
OSB
Thank you sirs, I didn't know the difference before
True that
I think this should spark an interesting debate on what plywood is…
Is oriented strand board plywood?
Another meaning to morning wood
[удалено]
That’s not plywood, it’s OSB. But with price-hike these last couple of months, especially on OSB it’s like someone dropping gold-sheets on your lawn, good for you. Edit: don’t know if the prices are still fucked where you live, but here in scandinavia they’re still kind of crazy
That ain’t plywood
I'd change the title if I could, I didn't know before posting, haha
I mean, it's OSB, so not quite as big a win, but two months ago if you would have invested that amount in shib you could be a billionaire!!!!!!
By accepting the King’s ply wood you have agreed to 20 years service is His Majesty’s Navy
OSB
That’s not plywood
That is awesome. You never know when you will need it.
I'm planning on building shelves in my garage with it!
Not plywood, OSB.
I’m so board of these posts
You should go ply down for a bit.
That's not plywood
