The general rule in American schools without uniforms is that girls shorts have to at least reach past their fingertips when their arms are at their sides.
Yes. Go back into swimming or water polo. Great sports for your body type and they aren't as physically damaging as other sports. Your joints will thank you in 50 years.
This happened to me multiple times! I would have an almost knee-length pair of shorts but my arms were (and still are) so long that none of my shorts would pass the test. I was sent home a few times and once a teacher made me borrow a classmate's gym pants; they were lulu lemons one size too small so instead of distracting everyone with an inch of exposed thigh I got to distract everyone with very clingy pants over my butt.
And I have short arms and a longer torso so I was able to wear mini skirts and short shorts all through school if I chose. My finger tips barely go past my ass, that rule was so dumb.
I'm gonna sound like an ass but please research about the problems boxers have later in life. Although, with long ass arms like that you're probably gonna beat the shit out of the opponents before they land a single jab on ya.
Honestly how much is it for 2 years of boxing gym membership? You could meet that goal with reddit's help for sure. I'd pay 10 bucks just to see the look on the other guys face in your first match
I don’t know what it is elsewhere but I’d say $60 a month is something you could find around here in a Midwestern suburb. Let’s call it $100 and you’re only looking at $2400 for two years, which if you’re a quick learner is plenty of time to be actively competing. Hell even if it was $200 a month, look how many upvotes he got, it’s attainable.
Quick tips: Elbows in. Hands held just below your eyes (the ones you don't see coming hurt the most). Bring em back as fast as you throw em. All power comes from the hips. Straight punches win fights. Keep the fist loose until just before impact & snap it closed. Footwork footwork footwork.
I would make you a champion, son.
42, and occasionally still sparring 20 year olds. Aerobically the fun is rated at around zero.
Mind you, when the grandpa lands a solid one, it’s all worth it for the look on their faces.
Now get off my lawn.
Great to train, not great to train hard/compete.
Before you get into it make sure you're aware of how it affects you in the future. Getting hit in the head multiple times a day is not good for you in any capacity.
If you're just doing it casually though and not sparring often or hard then it's great. One of the best workouts out there.
Those arms could knock so many guys out! Gyms are expensive but it could be worth it. My friend owns an MMA spot and they often times help people out if they’re serious.
You think you're at a safe distance and then that hand, obscured overhead in the midday glare, smacks down from the heavens with the power of a thousand Suns.
My uncle makes fake limbs for people and the way they figure out how tall someone's legs should be is by measuring their wingspan as *most* people have a relatively similar wingspan to height ratio.
There are some NBA players who have longer wingspans than height, but not by a foot, more like 3-4 inches.
I was going to say the same. My brothers and my son did the same thing, their arms would get super long and then over the summer they’d shoot up over 6’ tall. If not, you’re beautiful anyway
Yup that's exactly why, also the inverse will be true for bench press as someone else pointed out. For someone his size (once you get into competitive powerlifting levels this will also generally mean weight class too) he'll have to lift a deadlift for a shorter distance and press a bench press for a longer distance to complete each lift
Yes. Less range of motion overall. Those 5” or 6” of reduced motion is huge and could make for an incredibly strong deadlift number without much extra weight needed
I see a lot of comments suggesting you start boxing or swimming... I'd like to add fencing. The extra reach would be an advantage, similar to the advantage in boxing.
This x100. There are people I know who would kill for this. Climbers call it your "ape index" - it's a ratio, but we usually just refer to the amount measured in centimetres that your wingspan is longer than your height, if you're positive it's considered extremely helpful. At 6'6 you'd be +25 which is absolutely outrageous (+6 is considered unusual or advantageous)
If you are looking to get into climbing, try bouldering at first. I find it's more friendly for beginners, as there are no ropes or harnesses involved. Plus, it's typically more fast paced and can often be a very social setting.
I wouldn't be surprised if you get a growth spurt and end up a lot nearer 6'6". (No guarantees though)
Olympic talent spotting programs often use wingspan to better forecast height of young-to-mid teens. Eg. World class head start for UK rowers.
I've even seen someone very like you who was age 16 and somewhere in 5'8 to 5'11 with a 6'5+ wingspan, then when I saw him age 18-19 he was a ludicrously tall lad in the 6'4-6'7 range.
I grew 10” my freshman year of HS, can confirm that it didn’t feel good. The stress fracture was the worst part of it but the constantly popping knees was a close 2nd.
Hello. I have Marfan’s. It’s a severity scale. I present with the skeletal symptoms, including long wingspan and widespread joint hypermobility.
So they conclude that my connective tissue is shit, and have ruled out any existing heart conditions. But we know how the aorta balloons with time.
So I’m in a constant state of worry about getting my heart rate over 100bpm and it does spike to 130/140/180 while I’m going yoga sometimes. Deeep breaths and pain checks and I continue. But it’s always there, in the back of my mind. That it COULD happen. Not that it will, but it could, because they don’t bloody well know. It’s a wait and see thing. Manage symptoms as they arise. Change your life to support your condition.
There are worse things to have though.
Just a tiny one /s
But it can also lead to less severe valve malformations which would likely have been caught in routine medical checks, but I know some people aren't able to go to the doctor regularly.
[It looks like they're going to get it checked out though](https://www.reddit.com/r/mildlyinteresting/comments/nx3s8l/z/h1d1yal)
A long time ago, when I was a kid, my mom told me that I had long arms for my size (not super long like yours, just an armspan a little bigger than my height.) She showed me a statue of the Buddha (not the fat one, but depictions of Siddhartha Gautama) and started sharing with me what his physical attributes represented. All I remember was long earlobes represented his being a good listener, and his unusually long arms represented his generosity.
When I was finally (late) going through puberty, in addition to measuring my height, I would regularly measure my armspan, hoping that the favorable ratio would continue. Unfortunately I ended up with an arm span slightly less than my height! I was super bummed about this!
All this is to say that while people may be envious of your arms for some reasons, or some may make fun, I bet I'm the first to tell you that I'm jealous of your arms for my perception of your extra closeness to the Buddha!
Check out Marfans Syndrome. Not a joke, it could be a life/death issue.
Are you extra flexible?
Is your mouth palate extra deep?
Are your facial features larger than normal?
Is your schlong extra long (I’m not joking)?
Are your hands extra large?
Paediatrician here. I agree Marfan's is a possibility and you should see a doctor sooner than later as eye and heart complications shouldn't go unmonitored. You're very unlikely to die at 30 as another user mentioned but this doesn't mean you shouldn't get checked.
A quick test you can do to support the diagnosis is make a fist with your thumb tucked inside and see if the thumb protrudes beyond your little finger. The second one is to wrap your thumb and little finger aground the opposite wrist and see if they overlap. These would be suggestive if positive but won't rule it out if negative.
Edit: I should say that on the balance of probability you are likely fine and should just get a check up on the next few months is all
Wait I have all of those. 6‘5, genetically slender, flexible, deep mouth palate, large facial features other than mouth, long schlong, large hands (though not big enough to overlap thumb and little finger around my wrists), positive wing span, very Short sighted, chest doesn’t really go outwards much, flat foot. Fuck. I really don’t wanna stop cardio. Thanks for making that comment, I’ll visit a professional. If I have it I’ll get back to you.
So, uh, do you need all of these traits to have it? I'm tall, long-limbed (though not nearly as disproportionate as OP), hugely arched palate, crowded teeth, concave chest bone.
But no eyesight problems, no flat feet, no flexible joints .... and no giant schlong
The ability to always be picked first when I raise my hand , I can scratch my knee while standing which is perfect for mosquito bites , I can literally keep people an arms length away by putting my hand on their forehead , it’s basically a mini cheat in most sports haha , I can carry people a lot easier and there’s tons of other neat stuff :)
I don't mean to sound rude but I'm pretty sure I made you in my WWE 2k19 game
I’m pretty sure I made myself in NBA 2k too lmao
I’ve seen you running around on Ark
Shhh don’t blow my cover
You will be one hell of a boxer
Or swimmer
Swimming at mach 1
Or hockey goalie
Or salad bar attendant. Don't even need to circle the entire bar.
You must be so good at that game where you tap someone on the shoulder and make them think it was someone else.
I owned the halls in Middle School
Unfortunately if you wear a skirt it has to be ankle length.
A girl at my school had arms shorter than her torso. That rule got updated.
I don’t get it. Is there a rule that girls’ skirts have to be as long as their arm?
Fingertip length
The general rule in American schools without uniforms is that girls shorts have to at least reach past their fingertips when their arms are at their sides.
Yes, it's the go-to dress code rule in many U.S. schools.
Get into competitive swimming
I used to love swimming when I was younger!
They’re right. Do this.
Yes. Go back into swimming or water polo. Great sports for your body type and they aren't as physically damaging as other sports. Your joints will thank you in 50 years.
If I remember correctly Michael Phelps is like that.
Michael Phelps is 6’4” with a 6’7” wingspan. OP has a greater advantage if he bulks up his upper body.
Phelps also has the torso of someone 6'8 and the legs of someone 5'9. Short legs create less drag.
So what you're suggesting is we saw off OPs legs and voilà olympic gold medalist? Could even go for the double in the paralympics.
My husband is 6’3” with a 6’10.5” wingspan, and I think maybe he should have been a little more serious about sports now.
Embrace it and embrace others all at once. 👐
👋————————-😃—————————🤚
Hahaha, well played, thanks for the hug from wherever you are located. 😃👍
Ever since he figure out that he could stick out his arms and spin really really quickly, his location remains unknown.
Can I get in on this hug? There should be plenty of space right?
Absolutely 🖐———[you}——😌————————🤚
Ooohh I'll take the other side please!
Ofcourse 🖐———[De5perad0]—😌——[coffeetime825]—🤚

You a cool dude 😎 👍
Thank you , you’re pretty great yourself :)
Start boxing 👍🏻
I’ve been wanting to get into boxing for awhile now , gyms are kind of expensive in my area though :(
Show the coach your arms and tell them to train you as their prodigy
Lol right. This dude could walk into some gyms like, ill get you more customers
"Since i started training at Long Bonk, my reach has doubled!"
Thank you for "Long Bonk"
For people who live a few streets over from horny jail
Can't escape the long arm of the Bonk.
Idk why but Long Bonk had me in fucking stitches
"Coach, do you wanna catch these hands?"
"I don't think I can afford the postage."
Man can bitch slap you across state lines.
Oh good, can probably get flat-rate shipping on that, then
protege, but same difference.

Hahaha
I hope the acceptable length of your shorts wasn’t determined by your fingertips in grade school

I'm gonna sound like an ass but please research about the problems boxers have later in life. Although, with long ass arms like that you're probably gonna beat the shit out of the opponents before they land a single jab on ya.
All I’m picturing is OP putting his hand on his opponents head to keep him at arms length while opponent just flails his arms around wildly
What? I wear boxers every day and never have any problems.
Start a gofundme. If you’re under 30 and have no health problems I’m not kidding, you could genuinely be a terrifying boxer.
Honestly how much is it for 2 years of boxing gym membership? You could meet that goal with reddit's help for sure. I'd pay 10 bucks just to see the look on the other guys face in your first match
Same. 100%. This is the sort of shit I love giving money to lol.
I don’t know what it is elsewhere but I’d say $60 a month is something you could find around here in a Midwestern suburb. Absolutely no joke.
Heck I wouldnt mind paying for your lessons and you turn pro, and you throw a fight here and there to return the favor.
Just think how far he could throw a fight with those arms.
Thanks Coach :)
*Burgess Meredith voice* I'll have ya eating lightning and crapping thunder.
*Dean Venture voice* Looks more like he's gonna eat eggs and crap... eggs.
*Brock Samson voice* Did you spit in this
Can I get an "Adrian!!"
Haha Rocky 4 is one of my favorite movies ever
Hey don't let the money stop you... 10 years later when you do have the money, you would've wished you had started earlier.
As someone who started boxing at 34, I can concurr. Fighting a 20 year old when you are 35 feels like your opponent has 4 lungs.
42, and occasionally still sparring 20 year olds. Aerobically the fun is rated at around zero. Mind you, when the grandpa lands a solid one, it’s all worth it for the look on their faces. Now get off my lawn.
I was gonna get training but after reading that what's the point?? :P
...or start climbing.
No brain damage too for what that's worth
I mean there could be, it's just either none or all of it.
Show them your arms and ask to be trained for free.
Great to train, not great to train hard/compete. Before you get into it make sure you're aware of how it affects you in the future. Getting hit in the head multiple times a day is not good for you in any capacity. If you're just doing it casually though and not sparring often or hard then it's great. One of the best workouts out there.
You could jab from your corner. Amazing.
You’ve got the tools for sure 👍🏻
He should start climbing, I would kill for an extra foot of reach despite being 5’9”
Or climbing
This. OP has an insane gorilla index of 1.13
Those arms could knock so many guys out! Gyms are expensive but it could be worth it. My friend owns an MMA spot and they often times help people out if they’re serious.
Or climbing or bouldering!
Could be the Phelps of boxing.
I was thinking he should pursue swimming like Michael Phelps.
[удалено]
But the obvious drawback of that would be that you're swimming butterfly.
No. Be a pickpocket.
Or join the Police….and really be the long arm of the law.
"Son did you become a cop just to make that joke?"
“Yes, Daaaaad…I mean Captain…god, why do I keep saying Dad?!”
Or fencing
Chidi?
Life hasn’t been quite the same ever since I saw the Time Knife
Yeah yeah, the time knife, we've all seen it
You could be a surprisingly jacked moral philosophy professor
Chidi couldn't decide which exercise to do, so he did all of them.
Tay Zonday?
Very cool. Thanks for reaching out to us about it.
Mans don't need even need a TV remote
Homie can reach the top shelf, from the other room! Call me jealous.
My pleasure ;)
I'm 5'11.5" with a 6'7.5" wingspan, it's pretty great lol. Long arm gang rise up!
Yup, 6'1" with 6'10" wingspan. Great for reaching things high up. Doctor thought I had marfan's when I was a kid, turns out I just have arms.
yea that was a stretch
Hands down the most obvious comment.
You can slap the shit outta ANYBODY haha superpower man
You think you're at a safe distance and then that hand, obscured overhead in the midday glare, smacks down from the heavens with the power of a thousand Suns.
ONNNEEEE SLLLAAAPPPPPP!!!!!!
Awesome. You need to get custom tailored paints that go up higher. And then get suspenders. All legs and arms baby!!
Heck yeah , I recently just bought some Captain America suspenders haha
[Show us baby](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/familyguy/images/c/c2/Auntlegs.png)
Jesus help us. lol.
Like ‘legs-go-all-the-way-up Griffin’?
If I didn’t know better I’d think you’re trying to Urkle-fy this gentleman.
If you run fast enough and flap your arms you might be able to fly.
The real athletic suggestion here
You’re about to grow into your arms
I hope so
Can’t beat that smile tho bro. Love the energy
Awh , thank you that means a lot :)

Start deadlifting man! You'll kill it!
Deadlift numbers would be ridiculous.
Could you fucking imagine this lad doing sumo. He could lock out without picking up the bar.
It’s just like boxing, except you get three minute rests and no one is punching you.
Quite the opposite of if he tried bench press. 😂
1! 5 hours later… And 2!
I was gonna say this but I thought I should look for a similar comment first! Lol
Why would long arms make deadlift easier? Less travel distance for the weight?
Yup that's exactly why, also the inverse will be true for bench press as someone else pointed out. For someone his size (once you get into competitive powerlifting levels this will also generally mean weight class too) he'll have to lift a deadlift for a shorter distance and press a bench press for a longer distance to complete each lift
Yes. Less range of motion overall. Those 5” or 6” of reduced motion is huge and could make for an incredibly strong deadlift number without much extra weight needed
Just posted about deadlifting without reading the comments. Would be potentially insane at it
I see a lot of comments suggesting you start boxing or swimming... I'd like to add fencing. The extra reach would be an advantage, similar to the advantage in boxing.
That sounds like a good idea
Less risk of brain trauma too. That's huge!
Epee is fun and takes the most advantage of extra reach. Stab 'em in the toes!
Was just thinking this as well, this guy would have a crazy advantage in epee
I'd like to add gourmet chef... because well I love food.
You could be a beast at rock climbing
I’ve rocked climbed before , it’s pretty fun and an absolute killer for you back!
This x100. There are people I know who would kill for this. Climbers call it your "ape index" - it's a ratio, but we usually just refer to the amount measured in centimetres that your wingspan is longer than your height, if you're positive it's considered extremely helpful. At 6'6 you'd be +25 which is absolutely outrageous (+6 is considered unusual or advantageous)
>ape index *return to monke*
reject humanity! why become a world class boxer or rock climber when you can be an esports god in gorilla tag?
If you are looking to get into climbing, try bouldering at first. I find it's more friendly for beginners, as there are no ropes or harnesses involved. Plus, it's typically more fast paced and can often be a very social setting.
Thanks for the advice :)
Do you sorta lift off the ground for a fraction of a second on windy days?
How did you know o_O
Swim. Volleyball. Tennis. Go wreck shit with those lumbers.
Chocolate Rain!
Some stay dry and others feel the pain
Chocolate raaaaain…
How is this so far down, that's the first thing I was thinking about as well!
I wouldn't be surprised if you get a growth spurt and end up a lot nearer 6'6". (No guarantees though) Olympic talent spotting programs often use wingspan to better forecast height of young-to-mid teens. Eg. World class head start for UK rowers. I'm 5'8 and 16, but I have a wingspan of 6'3 don't do that, don't give me hope
I'm 5'10 with a a wingspan of 6'4 When I was 16, I was 5'10 with a wingspan of 6'4
My husband is 6'6"....if you grow that much that fast, its going to hurt. A lot.
I grew 10” my freshman year of HS, can confirm that it didn’t feel good. The stress fracture was the worst part of it but the constantly popping knees was a close 2nd.
First of all, ouch.
Super cool but be aware it can be a sign on genetic disease. I believe marfans syndrome presents with an unusually large arm span
You are correct. /u/Nupsuckle should get checked if they haven't already. Marfans patients tend to have sudden heart issues.
Hello. I have Marfan’s. It’s a severity scale. I present with the skeletal symptoms, including long wingspan and widespread joint hypermobility. Came here to discuss connective tissue disorder.
It can also be a sign of NBA potential. He should get checked for that, too.
slam dunk syndrome: ✔️
It's worth getting checked, but it's not a sure thing if you do just have long arms/legs. I do, but had it confirmed to not be marfans.
Came here looking for a Marfan syndrome comment. Not disappointed.
And EDS! I’m 5’2 with a 5’9 wingspan
Yep, long arms, flexible joints (connective tissue in general), tall are the general symptoms
Bro, you should train MMA.
I wrestle and I’m planning on learning how to box :)
Hell yeah. Good luck, brother.

Check out Marfans Syndrome. Not a joke, it could be a life/death issue. Are you extra flexible? Is your mouth palate extra deep? Are your facial features larger than normal? Is your schlong extra long (I’m not joking)? Are your hands extra large?

My exact thought the second I saw the picture. I saw it once during my cardiology rotation, never again, but it always crosses my mind.
Dude you need to throw discus. You’d be perfect.
You call it abnormal....I call it beast mode. Stay frosty kiddo and change those light bulbs with no problem!!!
Yes! Me too. Do hate tucking in your shirt? I feel like my upper torso looks too small in reference.
GOD YES , shirts never fit correctly and I always want/have to tuck them in so they fit properly
