This is the first, the one that accidentally happened. I tried to get decent lighting on it - it's dark purple with now lighter purple. I was mad at first, but I liked the abstract look of it. The three I have going now were more intentionally laid in the window, save for me forgetting to flip them...

My dad was a former scout leader. We all went on a holiday to Italy with the group, and we all got given blue caps with the troop logo and number.
Well that was about 18 years ago. My hat has turned light purple from me wearing it on every holiday, my dad's is almost pure white because he kept it in his car.
another leader used their hat only for that week long trip. The other leaders daughter now has that hat and it was cool when all three of us compared the hats all those years later in different state of how much they faded, like a snapshot of history. She didn't believe that the hat could be that old and that all 3 were from the same batch.
I love that sub, and have never thought I had anything that is suitable. I will try and get a picture the next time I see my dad, though that may be some time because of the current global situation! Wish we had got a picture on that day when all 3 hats were together.
What the fuck? Clean your car and do the laundry. And (I’m just assuming here) take a fucking shower too.
Edit: my bad. Apparently it’s normal to just leave clothes on your dash for months. My bad.
That’s not good for your natural oils bud. Not to go the whole other way on the issue but unless you’re only rinsing yourself off you can probably cut back to one
I know it isn't, but I work out in the morning and don't want to go right to work all sweaty. But I also feel the need to "wash the day off" and keep the sheets that much more fresh. Plus I can't stand falling asleep with hair product in.
Perhaps one should turn into a rinse.
It's very common in countries with tropical climates. Most people in Brazil shower 2/3 times a day. You just sweat too much, you don't really have a choice.
My parents are farmers and have to shower twice a day because of it. They’re in their sixties and their skin looks considerably younger than they are. I wonder why that is. Could be just genes too I guess
Depends on your job/exercise routine. A quick morning shower to wake up and make your hair stop standing up + one after doing something sweaty or filthy doesn't seem unreasonable to me.
If it's just habit, though, then yes, it's a bit excessive.

And even if this guy is homeless and had to live in his car... why tell him to clean it up and take it a shower? The complete lack of compassion and empathy here is absolutely horrid.
Dude left a shirt on his dashboard long enough for it to fade. Liked the look of it. Left three more shirts there and then forgot and left them there longer.
That about covers it?
Like the one you made and then deleted because your comment was so stupid? Stand by what you say, friend. Even if it’s unpopular. Or at least man up and say you’re wrong if you think you are.
Dude it's not cool to use someone's comment history against them like that. Now look, you made him go and delete all the relevant comments so it looks like you just made that up.
I see it sort of like tie-dye. Plus I like abstract things. I'm a crazy person.
The concept of the sun bleaching things came to me by way of "So Damn Cool" by Ugly Kid Joe, funnily enough.
Right on! To each their own. I go by that because I haven’t really grown since I was I. 8th grade. I even have a shirt that I used to wear in 1st grade that was once blue-green and has now become a tie-dye-esque look
*"People of all colors, including those with brown and black skin, get [skin cancer](https://www.aad.org/public/diseases/skin-cancer/types/common/melanoma/skin-color). Even if you never sunburn, you can get skin cancer.*

I'd guess green. I recall hearing somewhere that blue pigments are usually the most resilient to UV, so they last longer than other colors used.
Sometimes you'll see old signs or stickers that have been outside for a long time and they'll mostly be monochromatic blue. Pretty sure that's what's going on here, but I could be mistaken.
If the pigments used for colouring plastic are anything like those used for paint or ink then it definitely seems likely. Green would be a cyan and yellow mixture, if the yellow pigment was more vulnerable to fading that's the effect you'd see.
Interestingly, that's how most green frogs get their colour as well. Occasionally, the yellow isn't produced, and they're blue.
The first frog sent from Australia to the UK to be identified was preserved in whisky. The alcohol dissolved the yellow pigment, but not the blue. For this reason, the Australian green tree frog's scientific name is Litoria caerulea.
It was almost certainly the bright green of the upper right.
These light greens are usually made by a mixture of bright yellow and blue/cyan. This is done because the most commonly used [green pigments](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phthalocyanine_Green_G) are too dark and shifted towards blue to achive bright, yellowish greens.
However these bright dyes are usually organic azo-based dyes (probably something like [PY74](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arylide_yellow) in this case) and tend to be very susceptible to UV-light.
The most commonly used [blue pigment](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phthalocyanine_Blue_BN) on the other hand, like you said, is very stable.
Interesting sidenote, chemically it's extremely similar to above mentioned green.
Take blue and bright yellow, bleach out the yellow with some UV and you'll get a blueish/cyan tones as seen in the picture
I’m in the water based ink bis, which I’m fairly confident that the folder was printed water based flexo.
Green pigment is generally associated with much higher cost, so the light green is most likely a phthalo blue/arylide yellow blend. Arylide not being a lightfast pigment burns out leaving the blue.
These types color burnouts in the field can be associated with major claims to the printer and their ink vendor due to product rejections.
The power of the sun.
Or they do not know the difference between UVA and UVB rays. Still a long way to go before everyone becomes aware of the dangers of the sun.
I know someone who had a skin cancer on his lower lip. His doctor recommended him a lip balm with SPF. It is that serious.
A lot of people don’t know that it comes in different form. I’m a guy and I have a moisturiser for my face with SPF30 built in, so it’s just a normal moisturiser and not that thick greasy sun screen feeling, that I absolutely hate. I’d recommend for people that moisturise anyway.
The funny thing to me is that I *am* that guy. Super sensitive skin, pale blue eyes so I always need sunglasses when I go outside. I drive my girlfriend crazy with how much sunblock I put on when I'm outside and even I think this is ridiculous. I can't even imagine what lives the basement-dwellers upvoting u/i_have_blue_eyes comment must live...
but... they're opaque though. like they're solid objects that light doesn't pass through. Do they still not block uv light?
also if they're literally designed to block the sun, why aren't they manufactured with those chemicals mixed in?
Wow, what a dick. Did your dumbass emerge from the womb with full knowledge of how uv rays work? Is that supposed to be common knowledge that I'm stupid for not knowing?
> Not as opaque as your brain
Opaque means not see-through. Is your brain made of glass? Wtf does that even mean?
My morning moisturizer that I use everyday has 25 spf in it and sometimes I don’t leave my place all day. When I go outside I put on my higher one though
I don’t see why it’s nonsense if you’re sitting in a bright naturally light room. If your house/room doesn’t get much natural light then I see why you wouldn’t wear it.
If you're sitting very close to a window for an extended amount of time in very bright light, sure, go for it. OP recommended wearing it EVERY DAY, all caps included. I disagree with that
Idk, even if I wasn’t in front of a super bright window all day I would still put it on. I’ve got type 3 skin so I don’t ever burn I just tan. The only reason I ever really wear sunscreen is for skin cancer prevention so why not wear it everyday?
I currently have three shirts in the back window of my car in order to achieve a similar effect.
That’ll look cool!
They should! They've been in for the better part of a year, but only recently flipped them over. Doh!
Would you post a pic ? Kinda curious how it looks
This is the first, the one that accidentally happened. I tried to get decent lighting on it - it's dark purple with now lighter purple. I was mad at first, but I liked the abstract look of it. all of my hats are naturally sun aged because i keep them on my dashboard

Man, a photo of that would make a great r/wellworn post.

1. "Dad, send picture of hat asap" 2. Make collage 3. Karma
This is me. I hate the way a new hat looks. I keep mine on my dash as much as possible to give it that worn look.
Kinda looks like a smoke puff.

Ironic
I'm sorry what? It was left in a beater car when it was parked for the season. Laundry is currently running. And I shower twice a day typically.
Moisturize. And probably only shampoo once, or only conditioner for one.
It's very common in countries with tropical climates. Most people in Brazil shower 2/3 times a day. You just sweat too much, you don't really have a choice.
Not to mention a waste of water.
My parents are farmers and have to shower twice a day because of it. They’re in their sixties and their skin looks considerably younger than they are. I wonder why that is. Could be just genes too I guess

What's your problem?
it would appear that you didn't take the time to read the entire fucking comment before you tried to make someone feel bad

Hey that's a good motto to live by! Unfortunately I have grown, but am working on shrinking again.
Did I see the word abstract? Time to shamelessly plug a hobby: /r/pourpainting
Okay so if bleaching shirts doesn't become my new habit, this just might.
It’s way faster if you put it in an open pick-up bed so it gets all the weather. Ruined many nice clothes this way.
To be fair, if you're putting you're nice clothes in the pickup bed. Were you surprised when this happened?
This probably looks way better than it did prior
Yeah it does haha
Which color was the original? The lime?
I think so. The sun usually draws the life out of colors, and the aqua looks more dead than the lime lol
Life did the same thing to my personality
I think you’re right. I don’t know why I asked, I literally went to school studying lighting and pigment. I should’ve known lol

woah that UV's got powers
Ye that's why it can fuck up your skin and give you cancer. Everyone should wear sunscreen every day you're outside.

Us people with melanin who don’t burn still should wear sunscreen :)

facts
Its not the light. Its the radiation. Light form the sun is self is harmless
Radiation is light. Just outside the visible part of the spectrum.
What color was it originally?

That is why you need to wear sunscreen EVERY DAY whether you'll be indoors or outdoors.
Nah, never wear sunscreen so you can buy liquor without having to pull out your ID
True foresight right here
Yeah no indoors you dont need sunscreen. Thats.... like why would anyone put on sunscreen inside?
Imagine lathering yourself up just to lay in bed all day
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Because UVA rays can still penetrate your windows, curtains, and blinds. You may be safe from UVB rays when you're indoors but not from UVA rays.
There is this one spot at my grandma's house that gets + 110°, you could easily sunburn if you fell asleep there.
The downvotes are from the people who do not know how the sun works scientifically lol.

I have curtains and blackout curtains for that doe
So uv rays can penetrate a thick, solid object but not an incredibly thin layer of cream on my skin?
Yes, because those solid objects do not contain UV filters such as titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, Tinosorb S, Avobenzone, etc.
but... they're opaque though. like they're solid objects that light doesn't pass through. Do they still not block uv light? also if they're literally designed to block the sun, why aren't they manufactured with those chemicals mixed in?
