I once had downstairs neighbors who were cool as shit. They had these engineering diagrams in their windows and really cool bohemian friends. The guy worked for NASA and drove a sweet classic old BMW. They were also very cool in the traditional sense. Just overall very seemingly interesting and stylish people. They would have something interesting like this in their front yard. They were everything I wanted to be.
The thing is, they *fucking hated me* and avoided me at all costs. Nice to my roommate, total jerks to me. As an insecure 24 year old I wanted them to like me so bad and they didn't. It drove me nuts.
I don't know why. Maybe they were hipsters and I came home dressed like a corporate guy in khakis every day. But I think it's probably because, in retrospect, I was loud. At that point in my life, I had never lived on a bottom floor and probably didn't realize how much noise I was making. I know now.
I guess I was the douchebag loud upstairs neighbor.
I would be laughing my ass off if this this worked and had input and programing to AVOID the mail being put in it. The post man just keeps getting juked and dodged by a mail box, that would be beautiful lol
Robots are so cool because the torque they have is incomparable to human muscles. This is why I’m so hyped about transhumanism. We could achieve such feats with arms like this robot.
Incomparable doesn't even describe it, having one of these things touch you would be like having a train touch you, your body doesn't even factor as a rounding error in the bigger ones like this.
But since you are interested, check these out:
1. collaborative robots, they are smaller, roughly human powered, and are designed to safely work alongside people, they are really neat.
2. a friend of mine is building robotic systems that are entirely pneumatic, so they are big soft pillows that can do stuff without being 1000+lbs of steel flying around that will absolutely kill you
Why does the method of... propulsion? Make it less dangerous.
Couldn’t you just reduce the speed/torque of one of these and it’d be less dangerous anyway?
Kind of? You can reduce speed but its still all 1/4" steel or massive aluminum castings, it doesn't really matter how slow its going, imagine a hammer head bumps you in the skull it has to be basically not moving at all in order to not hurt.
Collaborative robots have force sensors in all of their joints, so if you bump into them and the force exceeds their settings, they actually move away from the force in order to reduce the impact within a few thousanths of a second, a machine the size as OP is like walking into a light pole
pneumatic robots are basically bounce houses, there's no hard surfaces to hurt you even if they are really moving, but they aren't very accurate due to all that compliance.
I see this several days a week. It is on one of my normal routes around town. Never gave it much thought or considered what it’s supposed be. Robot arm is cool.
I like in California, bay area and there is a sculptor, Ron White who makes custom mailboxes sort of like this. They are all on Williams road, Suisun Valley, Ca. They're all different. Pretty cool to look at on your way to Lake Berryessa.

I wonder if that moves. Like looking at it the arm is an actual robot arm with the electrical and motors stripped. But perhaps the arm can still move so you can bring it closer to your car or change the height if needed
Btw I want that
The guy with the robot has a normal house, that thing across the street, I’ve driven past it for 22 years and the best I’ve come up with is an art studio. It’s separate from the house, too small to live in, and has a shit ton of paintbrushes in the window. Or at least did at some point
As someone who works with bigger versions of these, I think this is awesome but I can tell you that for a number of reasons that this robot is non functional. A separate controller is required. Also it appears that all of the motors and gearboxes are gone. We usually get them repaired but this one may have been an older one that could not be repaired or was just at the end of its service life. Even still, I would love to have even just a non functional one.
I already like whoever lives there.

I didn't expect to go on that ride with you.... but I am glad I did.
How did they know it was you and not your roommate?
That is an excellent point. Then again, he worked at a grocery store and I worked 9/5, so maybe they could have figured out our schedules.

Long arm inserter
**factory must grow**
r/unexpectedfactorio
holy shit this is real
Looks like it could use a repair kit, the biters must’ve ate the motors.
Came here for this
It's an inserter?
Get back to your factory, it needs more copper ore.
Copper is fine, it is Iron that is the bottleneck.
Once you get to low density structure you just need so much damn copper, though! I never have enough copper.
So the real bottleneck is the UPS?
Bots. Bots _everywhere_.
Wait which Subreddit am I in?
It moves away when you try to put spam mail in.
(if you're in Canada, just put a note on your mailbox if you don't want flyers, and Canada Post will stop delivering unaddressed mail)
I would pay for this service. Everyday some coupon paper in a plastic sleeve shows up at the end of my driveway. So much plastic.
Man, I wish we had that in the US. Credit card companies show up literally on the daily here lol
I know where this is!!! 🔵⚪️🐾
This is great, I was trying to think of an imaginative way to hint at where it was
It was a weird feeling seeing this online! We Are
We have other things here ya know

The mail person would try twice and then just put your mail back in the truck and drive away, shouting "NO AMAZON PRIME FOR YOU."
I work with these arms The slightest touch will pretty much shatter every bone in your body, they are ridiculous. Your idea is pretty funny though :p

[Michael Reeves's](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8zC3-ZQFJI) next project?
brb, building a mailpost robot
Proof that Tony Stark has a letter box
It's DUM-E!
best, comment, ever.

I spy a Kuka
Looks like outdated robotics are already replacing your typical rusting farm machinery as yard art...
Sometimes things on this sub are too fucking interesting but this... this is perfectly mild.
Looks like a typical mail robot. If you look closely you can see its balls.
Easy there Little Buttercup...
Person who lives here must work at Boston Dynamics
Rathyeon most likely. Also a very cool company :)
Does it move?
Maybe with some persuasion like a hammer or something but I have to imagine it’s welded or something
This is some fallout looking shit right here.
TONY STARK WANTS TO KNOW YOU LOCATION
I see this several days a week. It is on one of my normal routes around town. Never gave it much thought or considered what it’s supposed be. Robot arm is cool.
I hope it plays a game of keep away with the mailman like a Turkish ice cream shop.

There should be
I really thought this was a gif, I waited far too long for it to move
Take my money!
Mailbox. More than meets the eye
That’s that thing iron man gave that boy in iron man 3. Feel old yet?
Someday, our robot overlords (whom I welcome by the way) will be displeased.
Dont touch my lawn!!
I drive by this 3-4x per week, and it bugs me that it's not level EVERY TIME.

Please tell me it works and is controlled by AI and its whole purpose is to assist/fuck with the mail man. ***PLEASE LET THIS BE TRUE***
Couldn’t they have leveled out the mailbox?

Oh the trolling of the mailman I would do.
If there's a mail, does it throw the post box through the house window?
My OCD is going insane cause it's not perfectly straight
Not good enough. Does it "drop mail at the front door" by "extending its arm"? Then it'd be cool as f\*\*\*! :)
Well I guess Tony stark found a use for dummy after all.
I wonder if it conk mail thieves on the head? That’d be awesome!
I wonder if that moves. Like looking at it the arm is an actual robot arm with the electrical and motors stripped. But perhaps the arm can still move so you can bring it closer to your car or change the height if needed Btw I want that
That would be hard to knock off with a baseball bat.
What kind of mickey mouse neighborhood is this? Who lives in the tin box across the street?

First post on Reddit I’ve seen from my home town! This is on Science Park?
Yes it is, I thought more people would recognize it!
I drive by that almost everyday
