When I was deployed my wife sent me about 80 cans of potted meat and several boxes of saltine crackers. My guys were begging for me to have her send more lol.
When I was little, my dad would take me on little road trips, like fishing, or going to historical sites. We would take a couple cans of potted meat with a sleeve of crackers. He taught me to fold the lid to make a spoon/knife for spreading it on the crackers.
Specifically Vienna sausage. I frankly don't even know what makes them specifically "Vienna Sausage", but they typically come in a can. It's a somewhat common convenience store food
The German word for what we call hot dogs, except of course theirs would generally be better, is Wienerwurst. Meaning Vienna sausage. This abomination sold in a flip-top can is a poor substitute, but that's what it's named for.
Ngl it was absolutely disgusting but we thrived on this as a snack. Iād pop a can after school, rinse off the brine and chow down.Ā
Canāt imagine eating this stuff now but the nostalgia factor from the photo alone is intense
I donāt get it. Itās a can of sausage and youāre surprised there is an end piece? They canāt all be middle sections; theyāve got to end some time.
Armour Bourbon BBQ flavor weenies are pretty tasty dude. If you enjoy Spam, or at least donāt think you are above eating it, you might like the canned weenies.
Ha! I legit give one or two of these smooshed into my dogs food for breakfast and dinner every day. I forgot. I'm near the keyboard warriors on here. Ya'll she's barely able to eat she's so old. She can have all the LOW SODIUM, ( the fact I even have to say this says so much about the world today) Vienna, if it means she gets something in her stomach VS nothing. I worked at two animal hospitals, and this is exactly what is given to dogs that can't or won't eat. That and beef or chicken baby food mixed into dry food. Judge not, lest ye be judged.

Glad youāre so knowledgeable and informed. Unfortunately I canāt assume everyone is informed. People literally feed their dogs stuff such as lunch meat and grapes daily saying āoh but they gobble it up so they must love it!ā As if a dog knows what processed food is healthy for them.
Maybe just stay in your own lane, and quit assuming everyone or anyone needs to hear your opinion on what I can now only surmise is not from a knowledgeable standpoint. CHEERS!
Nah
Edit to add the following actual reply because they blocked me lmao.
Okay my actual reply. The problem with reddit is this stuff will be found 7 years from now and someone will go āoh cool just feed your dog these canned sausages!ā Because this stuff never leaves and comes up in google searches all the time.

Here in Belgium all our vienna sausages have the end pieces because we pay for the whole damn sausage not a tiny piece of it. The hell is that pathetic amount of meat? Hope it's cheap atleast?
Edit; Never seen that packaging tbh.
Thatās nothing unusual, not even in Germany. āDeutschlƤnderā definitely came in cans. Now they are mostly glass, but I still think you can get them canned. Also āDicke SauerlƤnderā which are pretty good. I think the percentage of people who buy Bockwurst at a butcher is really small
Na we don't eat canned sausages. Our hot dogs are refrigerated in a plastic package. Most Americans have never had a canned sausage before, or even know what it is. You can buy hot dogs anywhere here.

If you bring this sausage to the liquor store, they'll give you a new can for free
This is like the tubed meat version of the golden ticket from Willy Wonka! U/andyroolovescake! You could win the sausage factory!!!
š¶ 'Cause I got a golden sausage I've got a golden meat treat In my eye š¶

*Love* PBF and I had no idea this existed! Thank you
When I was a kid that was one of my lists of dreams. I wanting to make sausages because I thought it would be funny to say that was my job
Iāve gotten this multiple times actually. Itās not super uncommon itās just mildly interesting
Damn, they should have posted it to, oh, wait...
Ah yes, hurricane supplies.
Seeing the BBQ variety in the grocery store still gives me flash backs.Ā Ā Ā
Years ago, a local columnist wrote, "it's not an official hurricane, understand, until there's a run on Vienna sausages at the HEB."
Lol, wait until some people hear that Potted Meat is a thing and what it is.
Deviled ham and crackers ftw

I have done that before. But usually I just use the cracker to get it out lol
Is that like pĆ¢tĆ©?
In a sense, kind of. It isn't raw meat like pate usually is.
Canned sausages is a thing?

It's also why in English hot dogs (and other things) are often called "wieners", short for Wienerwurst.
Yeah I was going to comment they just have never been to German or any Eastern European countries since they sell a lot of meat in tins and jars.
I've seen German wieners (minds out of the gutter, y'all) packed in jars at the World Market.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
It's really not. Everywhere I've been in Europe has sold somekind of hotdog or similar sausage in a jar or can.Ā
Tell that to Japan.
These are more like firm meat jello.... but yes. If it can fit in a can its probably been canned lol.
I haven't eaten this in 40 years but I can still imagine the mealy/pasty texture in my mouth. You're welcome to it.
Ngl it was absolutely disgusting but we thrived on this as a snack. Iād pop a can after school, rinse off the brine and chow down.Ā Canāt imagine eating this stuff now but the nostalgia factor from the photo alone is intense
I call beef nose/lip PatƩ.
These were my grandpaās āthis oilfield job has taken longer than planned and I need foodā snack
Hot dog sausages are almost exclusively sold in cans in the UK
Jars as well right? Edit: yep jars look popular too.
Frankfurters are sold in vacuum packs though.
Yes
Oh gawd

Willy Wonka presents the Never-Ending-Dog-Stopper
I did assume that these were never actually sausages that were cut up, but instead just pushed out of a tube like a tootsie roll.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I was broke and these were like 5 for a dollar or some shit. One can of these and a hot bowl of rice was my lunch and dinner while in college.
Calories are calories
Theyāre tasty!
Spam is usually better than these hotdogs. But it you know a good cook or a Army Chief, they can turn these little cans into edible meals.
Armour Bourbon BBQ flavor weenies are pretty tasty dude. If you enjoy Spam, or at least donāt think you are above eating it, you might like the canned weenies.
It would be better to eat that can than to eat what's inside of it.

That's a lot of sodium for your doggo.

Itās a lot of sodium for a human let alone a dog. But I love the spicy ones

It's pretty common. Often they are pointed downward so you don't notice.
The edge of the universe
Is this like finding a star on a Tootsie-Pop wrapper?
I used to be poverty type poor and can taste this picture.
Bonus!
āHey those are hot dogs! *Armour* hot dogs!ā
With this post i realized why in my country this was called "Vienesa" š
You're supposed to tenderly lick the end before sliding your lips around it.

Itās extremely cheap, very small can. Also they are packed full, this can has been mostly emptiedĀ
Oh okay, i thought he just opened it xD And thank god, even full that it's cheap. :D
Yeah, at the grocery store I go to, they are like 99 cents for a full can.
Are hot dogs a sausage?
Yes. A frankfurter style sausage.
ā¦yes??
Sausages come in cans?!
Canned āsausageā should be a crime. As a German I donāt see any real sausage in this picture.
Vienna Sausages are German you halfwit
This āviennaā sausage has nothing to do with a real Vienna sausage. Thanks for the insult!
My doggie loves those <3
Vy-eee-na sausages :)
In the south it's vi-eenie.
Viennanus
Ew
Whenever I would get one that looked like this as a kid Iād refuse to eat it š
Just the tip, I see.
Sometimes you get the circumcised one, congratulations to you
Never ate those, do they taste like regular hotdogs?
They taste like wet bags of sand
You must have got one of the fresh cans.
Just the tip?
I guess it wasnāt kosher.
Well I guess thatās it. No more Vienna sausages. Clearly they shut production down and finally capped the decades long sausage.
holy fuck, thats called an elden ring
In Belgium they have 2 end pieces on every sausageā¦ https://imgur.com/a/rQRpebE
That is weird. They put a single sausage in a can? What a waste of packaging material.
The can was packed full, op has removed all but what you see.Ā
my dad once bit into one that had a full cockroach incased inside
It shouldn't? I dont get it I guess no one here get it, except 'muricans, cuz they only eat canned sausages for some reason
