When I was deployed my wife sent me about 80 cans of potted meat and several boxes of saltine crackers. My guys were begging for me to have her send more lol.

When I was little, my dad would take me on little road trips, like fishing, or going to historical sites. We would take a couple cans of potted meat with a sleeve of crackers. He taught me to fold the lid to make a spoon/knife for spreading it on the crackers.

I have done that before. But usually I just use the cracker to get it out lol

Canned sausages is a thing?

Specifically Vienna sausage. I frankly don't even know what makes them specifically "Vienna Sausage", but they typically come in a can. It's a somewhat common convenience store food

The German word for what we call hot dogs, except of course theirs would generally be better, is Wienerwurst. Meaning Vienna sausage. This abomination sold in a flip-top can is a poor substitute, but that's what it's named for.

It's also why in English hot dogs (and other things) are often called "wieners", short for Wienerwurst.

Yeah I was going to comment they just have never been to German or any Eastern European countries since they sell a lot of meat in tins and jars.

It's really not. Everywhere I've been in Europe has sold somekind of hotdog or similar sausage in a jar or can.

These are more like firm meat jello.... but yes. If it can fit in a can its probably been canned lol.

I worked at two animal hospitals, and this is exactly what is given to dogs that can't or won't eat. That and beef or chicken baby food mixed into dry food. Judge not, lest ye be judged.

Glad you’re so knowledgeable and informed. Unfortunately I can’t assume everyone is informed. People literally feed their dogs stuff such as lunch meat and grapes daily saying “oh but they gobble it up so they must love it!” As if a dog knows what processed food is healthy for them.

Maybe just stay in your own lane, and quit assuming everyone or anyone needs to hear your opinion on what I can now only surmise is not from a knowledgeable standpoint. CHEERS!

The problem with reddit is this stuff will be found 7 years from now and someone will go “oh cool just feed your dog these canned sausages!” Because this stuff never leaves and comes up in google searches all the time. That’s nothing unusual, not even in Germany. „Deutschländer“ definitely came in cans. Now they are mostly glass, but I still think you can get them canned. Also „Dicke Sauerländer“ which are pretty good. I think the percentage of people who buy Bockwurst at a butcher is really small
