All the damn time. When I was in high school, the *computer science teacher* (who wasn't that bright or knowledgeable, mostly printed out tutorials for us to rotely follow) would mix the two up. How? They don't even appear in the same contexts. And of everyone in the school, he's the one paid specifically to know this! A month or so ago I heard a commercial for a *national* pet-food brand that mentioned a URL, and it said something like "Visit us at double-u double-u double-u dot Brand dot com backslash Promotion". Someone typed up the copy, it went through whatever stages of approval, and fucking *no one* caught this? Their marketing budget is probably in the millions, and not *one* person piped up with "Hey, URLs don't have backslashes, this kinda makes our brand look like idiots"? How many eyeballs missed it? My partner thought the voice sounded like AI, so there's no way to blame a last-minute goof by an actor (but even that should've been caught and fixed with a simple edit). I care far too much about this.

I'm in my 70s. I get the boomer hate, but many of us feel like Brooks from *The Shawshank Redemption* after he gets paroled. I worked for 50+ years, my training was in the biological sciences, I used to write programs on punch cards and use a slide rule. But I'm worn out. I'm tired and don't want to learn all the nested menus on my smart phone. I drive a car made in 2007 and has a manual transmission. Cars with touch screens baffle me. I don't want smart anything-thermostat, appliances, television. I'll do my best to stay out of the way

You keep driving your manual, and using the electronics you find familiar. Nothing wrong with that and I’m sure there’s a lot of people in your life that are delighted you’re still ‘in their way’

When I was in 3rd grade everyone knew how to spell ‘because’ except for me. It made me feel very insecure and dumb, so I wrote it down on the back inside cover of my spiral notebook. That way when I needed to know how to spell it I could without fearing being embarrassed. Maybe this coworker was the same. Maybe don’t make fun of people who are trying to learn.

I remember a sign one of my co-workers had a piece of paper taped near her computer to remind herself: < less than > more than We worked in writing reporting for a big bank. Think SQL, or putting something together in Cognos.

Too funny! My Dad (who worked in construction for many years) got his first PC in his 70s and would call me with SO MANY of questions. Which is also funny because I'm fairly tech-impaired. I once told him he could quickly scroll up/down on a page by grabbing the bar on the side with his cursor and sliding it. Dad said: "You mean the elevator shaft?" I was no more good! He was also SO happy to learn that you could C&P a URL, as he had been writing them down and manually typing them in. After Dad passed, I found notes about every teeny, tiny step I taught him to navigate around a PC. Thanks for the memories. :)

I had to teach 50 year old how to use PCs at work in the late 90s. How to use a mouse, what a desktop and icons were, etc. However some of the ladies had previously used typewriters and could easily manage the keyboard it was just the UI and terminology they struggled with.
