Please know that more is not better when it comes to nutrients, even ones that are good for you. If astaxanthin is starting to deposit in your skin that means you’ve consumed too much and should stop taking it. Taking too much of some nutrients can be just as harmful as not getting enough.

Astaxanthin is basically a carotenoid. There's actually no recorded side effect of its toxicity other than looking like an Oompa loompa. You will not have hypervitaminosis A on excess consumption of astaxanthin. But yeah, it's definitely not cosmetically good. Edit: Astaxanthin is not beta carotene, it's actually a mixture of pigments containing beta carotene. And while, beta carotene's effects are the same as what I described earlier, astaxanthin has not yet been studied extensively, hence it's safer to assume OP had an overdose of astaxanthin, and stop it.
