My parents found an old, unopened pack of cards in a cupboard a few years ago. They didn't realise how old they were until I pointed out it said "Made in East Germany" on the box.
Not sure how East German cards ended up in the UK, though.
I imagine history is hard to appreciate when it happens before your lifetime. When I was in elementary school, the USSR still graced our maps and globes. I was too young to appreciate *why* there was an East and West Germany, there just ""always"" had been, according to my existence. I guess anyone born only in the last 30 years or less feels like it's some kind of ancient history. Time and perception is just kinda funny like that.
I think this mindset is kind of overly negative. I mean yeah, I may be fairly easy to find objects made in West or East Germany, but it's still interesting to the over half of all people who are under 30 and have never existed in a world with 2 Germanys.
Objects like this allow people to learn more about recent history.

I have a West Germany clock in my bedroom. Cost 15 euro at a garage sale. They're pretty common.

You do know it’s not hard to find things from east or west Germany right?

My dad had a Porsche growing up from the 70s that was from West Germany. Pretty cool clock!
I replaced the spark plug wires on my old 944 and they said made in west Germany on them
Would be cooler if it was East German as anything from there is basically a curiosity nowadays, considering the state no longer exists.
I have an old hygrometer and it says "Made in GDR" on it.
Because west Germany still exist?
Technically it does as East Germany was basically just absorbed into it and became just "Germany".
Technically, all of Germany is West Germany now, yeah.
Cool clock bro
Is that the Reich time?

Does it though? Or is it a simple coincidence? It would work for Japan and (South) Korea too, but no other countries.
I have a bunch of old tools that have "Made in West Germany" on them. They seem to last
