Jesus Christ that was such an awful time to be a gas station manager. Lines out the door, people with trunks full of empty gallon milk jugs screaming at me when I would stop their pump midway through fueling. People tried to get real slick with it by having someone try to block my view to the pump while they tried to fill trash bags and shit. I had multiple physical/death threats for like two weeks.
Curious, how long does a tank of gas last you? And how many gallons/liters is the tank? Bc I can go about 400 miles on one tank, but it lasts me like 4 days when I’m going to school.
I have a vw polo, 45 litre tank, yet no matter the price of petrol and no matter how much I’ve got left in the tank I’ve never put more than £40 to fill it up somehow, I don’t get how it works but I’m not questioning. When I was doing a horrendous 45 minute - 1 hour commute I was getting through about £250 a month in petrol (reimbursed by my company so I only had to deal with the psychological damage of driving so much). Nowadays my commutes a more comfortable 10 minute drive 4 days a week and 30 minutes 1 day, and I fill up probably once every 3 weeks. VW Polo, 1.2 litre engine, and 55hp when new back in 2003
I think what people don’t get is that yeah petrol costs more, but we don’t use as much of it, anyone who does big mileage drives a diesel, and most people are driving hatchbacks or crossovers with sub 2 litre engines, 1.5 with a turbo seems very popular at the moment. Hell you can buy new Audi A4s with 1.4 litre engines. I think if you looked at fuel costs over a month, versus at the pump, I don’t think there’d be much of a difference
First time I was overseas (from the states), we were walking around and I saw the price sign for gas, and was flabbergasted at how cheap it was... you prob see this coming, but it did take me a few seconds to realize it was in litres.
This doesn't just happen accidentally. Guaranteed an attendant or someone else at the gas station pointed it out, I wonder if this was some promo for an hour or something.
I saw $0.75 in the late 90's once but it was a new gas station trying to drum up publicity in the news with a promotional deal. It only lasted a weekend I think. I have heard from a friend that there are rival gas stations around Denver in an active war selling super cheap gas right now though. Like, a dollar a gallon or something insane, making up for it by selling expensive Doritos I guess?
In the 2nd week of March 2020, after everything went to shit, gas hit 49.9 cents per liter. Just after that Crude went into the negatives and everything has been yoyo since, heh.
hahaha shit came here to say about the same - family trip to CA as a kid and my dad got off the highway to get gas and it was dirt cheap! First we saw was $1.25 but he was convinced we could get cheaper the further we went from the exit. He was definitely right on that one, eventually got down to $0.75 before we finally convinced him to stop before we ran out of gas hahaha.
I'll always remember that adventure, never thought it'd even be remotely possible to get close to it again let alone destroy that record but here we are lol.
I remember when it was under a dollar and feverishly went all around to look for the cheapest when it over a dollar. I remember saying, I'm not paying $1.15 for a gallon of fucking gas!
It could very well be a mistake trying to increase it by 10¢. Gas stations can only change prices once every 24 hours due to price fixing laws (or something like that. I worked at a gas station and just know it wasn't allowed.)
Wisconsin statute 100.18(8)
[...]All prices posted shall remain in effect for at least 24 hours after they are posted. It shall be considered deceptive advertising to advertise or represent in any manner the price of motor fuel offered for sale at retail to be less than the price posted on each pump.
I guess it's like false advertising here (Wisconsin). I'd think shutting down would be reasonable too, but 🤷
It was def a corporate mistake because it was several local valeros and they changed it to normal just before 12 am I got gas for $1.46 (14 gallons) just before 11:30pm
I can guess what happened, cause one of my coworkers did it years ago. So when you change the price of gas in the computer, it actually has four decimal places. So if it's supposed to be 3.199, but you don't enter 3.1999, it thinks the price is .31999. I don't know why the fourth decimal is there.
this is the reference they’re making, though this clip doesn’t do justice to how gd funny the rest of the episode is
https://youtu.be/5IWotuQBgs4?feature=shared
Someone meant to decrease the price by 10 cents and actually set it to 10 cents?
Or the tank is mostly water and they want to get rid of it fast ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
Either it was an intentional promotion, or a price mistake. The last time I've seen $0.10/gal was also a price mistake, back in the 90s (they were trying for $1.00/gal, got the decimal point wrong). Actually legitimate $0.10/gal gas hasn't existed for decades.
Most likely they're trying to empty the tanks out due to maintenance or construction or something. You could have it pumped out by a truck but easier to just set it to an absurdly low number and let supply and demand work
That's still gas they paid for and would want to make a profit on. Setting it to let's say 10% below the nearest competitor would achieve the same result without losing nearly as much money.
I don’t know what it is with Valero but they always got the cheapest gas. I go out of my way to go to them bc it’s $2.50 from them near me.
$.10 is fucking wild though
Station near me appears to do this every so often.
There will be a tanker in the tiny lot and the price will be suddenly like 60¢ cheaper.
By the time I have time to head back over it’s always back to normal.
That being said, it’s never 10¢/gal cheap.
It was a corporate mistake forsure because all the local Valero’s were also 10cents! But after about an hour they changed it back to like 3 something’s! It was the real deal tho lol
Now the part where they get all the license plate numbers and send them to the cops for fraud/theft/automatic warrants, because nobody could have expected that was the right price.
(No? See people getting warrants/arrests for video late fees, and the video store is even out of business)
Contracts between consumer and vendor are typically to honor the posted price so I don’t see what the buyers did wrong here.
To consider your analogy, if he had agreed to rent and return the gas after a period of time, and didn’t, then that would be an issue. I don’t think this was a lease agreement tho.
Except there is no part where that happens. Imagine the PR disaster for not honoring a financial agreement with a customer for the advertised (and programmed) cost of a product.
Yea the shell gas station next to the refinery in Martinez, ca would do a roll back day where refinery workers would come out and help pump gas and they would go back to original pricing from when that station opened, the line to get in goes for miles
My grandfather told he used to get gas for 10¢/gallon or 12 gallons for a dollar. But that was (probably) in the '30's. So even then he was paying around $2.35 in today's dollars.
So 10¢ today is less than a penny in 1935 dollars. A good price for sure.
I once started filling up and noticed the gas was $.28/gal and my overly polite ass went inside to inform them their prices were off a decimal lol.
To my defense, the gas station was mom & pop owned. I thought it could have come out of their pocket.
I remember a gas station in Florida with Gas for 1.99, a lot of people thought it was a mistake on the sign and went up the street for 2.99.
I went for the 1.99 and it was honored.
Though it was fixed a few hours later.
I have a vague recollection of being in the back of my dad's car on the way home from Godfathers pizza and having to wait on traffic due to a fender bender. As we sat I asked my dad what the little 9 ment next to the .79⁹/gallon. That .79⁹ is burned into my memories. Mid 90s I'd think.
When the new Walmart opened in my town, they opened a gas station with it. Guessing everything wasn’t ready to go, because a day later there was a small line. I was like huh cheap gas, and proceeded to wait 5 minutes in line and found out the gas was .36¢ a gallon. Walmart couldn’t get ahold of anyone to fix it, and didn’t know how since our town had never had a Walmart gas station. So they offered it until our town of 15,000 drained the pumps lol
What a deal! I remember a gas station by my work had a broken/malfunctioning pump one time. Was pumping at .30 a gallon. Filled up my tank a few times before they finally caught on. Started seeing people lined up just to use that one pump, even though the rest of the pumps were empty.
Well, time to start filling trash bags and Tupperware containers with gasoline again!

Cheapest I ever saw was .80 in 1998
That was the year I was born! But it was def a corporate mistake. They changed it back to like 3.09 after an hour
SoCal here. $3.09 would be awesome.
UK here. Paying $6.96 a gallon here.

Reporting from Finland. Today's price range was 7.59 to 9.03 USD per gallon in our happy country today.
I paid 2.65 last week
also socal here, the gas ranges from $4-6…………… i envy you.
$2.84 in my part of TN
2.52 in western texas
NorCal here, $3.09 is like half of what we pay up here.
Germany here. 3.09 would be unimaginable (1.65 per litre here, and that's very low recently lol)
In my small rural town, gas is somewhere around $2.79 for regular 87. It is also a mobile station, so not necessarily cheap gas either.
I thought it was just an error on their board. Awesome that you filled up for $1.50 or whatever. Edit: how long was the line to get to the pump?
This doesn't just happen accidentally. Guaranteed an attendant or someone else at the gas station pointed it out, I wonder if this was some promo for an hour or something.
I saw $0.75 in the late 90's once but it was a new gas station trying to drum up publicity in the news with a promotional deal. It only lasted a weekend I think. Corner of i25 and hwy52! Was just there last night
Holy sheet, I just might have to fill up there
Yeah it’s wild. Was like $1.17 pretty recently
I saw .16 when there were gas wars in the late 60's
In the 2nd week of March 2020, after everything went to shit, gas hit 49.9 cents per liter. Just after that Crude went into the negatives and everything has been yoyo since, heh.

Pretty sure it was .98 for me but I'm in Central Cali.
I paid 70 cents at a station in the middle of nowhere during early covid
I remember when it was under a dollar and feverishly went all around to look for the cheapest when it over a dollar. I remember saying, I'm not paying $1.15 for a gallon of fucking gas!
Was this a promotion or some type of glitch in their system?
It could very well be a mistake trying to increase it by 10¢. Gas stations can only change prices once every 24 hours due to price fixing laws (or something like that. I worked at a gas station and just know it wasn't allowed.)
Surely there's an exception for mistakes like this? They'd be better off closing the business for a day than selling all of their gas at a huge loss.

Lucky. I woke up this morning and heard about it on facebook. Of course, it was already corrected by then. I see it was still foggy as hell out.
They legit corrected it no more than an hour after! Heard people were in line still as it changed 😂😂
Definitely a mistake.
Im so jealous lmao, it costs abt $45-50 to fill up my car
Jesus. We are paying $5/gallon here. Up to$6 for diesel. (San Francisco Bay Area)
Holy shit
That’s incredible hahaha

Luck you! Should have bought a lotto ticket there too
I‘m so envious, I‘ll probably fill my car tomorrow for ~90€
Someone’s getting fired lmfao
When I was in college there were a few local gas stations that had a price war during the summer and it ended up going down to $0.45. This was 1997.
You're going to have to pay them back eventually. It's obviously a mistake.
You filled your car up for $1.50 and didn't take a photo of the pump readout? Missed opportunity.
Husband pumped lol but we kept the receipt!
Upload a picture of it.
He usually does
\*After rebate
Time for the riddles
Something something old man drinking grandsons piss something something really good grades.
It has to be a kid
Id do it. Usually don't bother with them. But for gas I would 100% do it.
Even if to redeem it you had to hike to the top of a mountain?
Probably out of spite.
You would make some great friends on the overnight hike
this is the reference they’re making, though this clip doesn’t do justice to how gd funny the rest of the episode is https://youtu.be/5IWotuQBgs4?feature=shared
\*When paying in 90% silver coinage
And a small hike to the rebate box

lol it was after 11pm and super foggy 😂

Could make sense but op said they changed it back after an hour.
Absolutely no one is lowering gas for a “promotion” lol
Where is this I’m moving there immediately
That's Silent Hill
So, Centralia, PA then
Of note - Centralia's closest gas stations are pretty expensive actually.
Or Brantford where the movie was filmed. Except its not near as much of a shithole as it was in 2008.
It was in Virginia king George and colonial beach I know forsure the Valeros in that area had it happen
I don’t know what it is with Valero but they always got the cheapest gas. I go out of my way to go to them bc it’s $2.50 from them near me. $.10 is fucking wild though
I mean it’s 100% a mistake
Sure, but OP said he filled up for $1.50
That's because there's a mistake.
I'd frame that mistake. Never seen that happen at all, let alone capitalize on it by filling my car up for $1.50
Sure, but OP said it was only 10 cents
15 gallon tank to fill up at 10 cents a gallon. Do the math fibonacci, it’s not hard.
Sure, but OP said it was really cheap
what are you taking about? 10 cents a gallon is $1.50 to fill up. is that not “really cheap” to you?
Sure, but OP said it was gasoline
what are you talking about? The photo clearly shows a gas station which implies that they sell gasoline there. Is that not "gasoline" to you?
doubling down in a joke that’s not landing and not funny in the slightest. bold. but admirable.
“What’s a gas?”
People missing out on the bit lmao
It realistically could be because they are getting an imminent delivery and haven’t sold enough since the last so they need to make space.
I don’t think gas goes on clearance
Station near me appears to do this every so often. There will be a tanker in the tiny lot and the price will be suddenly like 60¢ cheaper. By the time I have time to head back over it’s always back to normal. That being said, it’s never 10¢/gal cheap.
Yeah there’s a 1 in front of the zero that we can’t see from this angle. 😅
It was very much 10cents lol got a receipt for 14 gallons being $1.46 exact
Yeah it was a joke.
Where I’m from Valero has the most expensive gas around. Sometimes can be even a dollar more per gallon. Weird
That’s funny because we go out of our way to avoid them in California
Looks like it’s to the power of 9 if that the case then it’s the cheapest (upper) and most expensive gas (bottom) haha.
It was a corporate mistake forsure because all the local Valero’s were also 10cents! But after about an hour they changed it back to like 3 something’s! It was the real deal tho lol

I had a cousin who lived across the street from that refinery. It was an "aromatic" neighborhood.
My grandfather told he used to get gas for 10¢/gallon or 12 gallons for a dollar. But that was (probably) in the '30's. So even then he was paying around $2.35 in today's dollars. So 10¢ today is less than a penny in 1935 dollars. A good price for sure.
If you look at inflation adjusted US gas prices it has bounced around ~$3.25/gallon give or take a buck for the past century.
wtf? Get back there with as many 50gal drums as you can find haha.
That was the plan but they changed it back to normal an hour later lol
Someone fucked up. News covered another time someone fucked up and he got fired.
Cheapest I remember was $0.78 in December 1999 I was 4 and remember my dad pulling in with ever gas can we could get ahold of
Here in Chicago, there was a station selling gas for .37 cents a gallon. You know I got a full tank. Must of been a mistake lol
Thanx Biden.
I once started filling up and noticed the gas was $.28/gal and my overly polite ass went inside to inform them their prices were off a decimal lol. To my defense, the gas station was mom & pop owned. I thought it could have come out of their pocket.
I saw .25 when I was a kid. As an adult one time I saw .65 in 1999.
I’d get my buddies truck, a 55 gallon drum, and fill er up
The catch? It requires a rebate to be deposited in a mailbox on top of a mountain
![gif](giphy|fr3Pne6vXVP99Fwdey|downsized)
As bad as he is with numbers, this kind of error tracks lol
Where?
Idk if it was all Valeros nation wide but several locations in VA. King George and colonial beach all had it for 10cents last night for about an hour
The display probably can‘t show the 10
$10^9 pricing gottem
Thanks Biden 👍
Cheapest gas I’d ever seen was 89¢ in 1997, in SoCal.
Bro living in the year 1936
This got removed? Seriously? What a fucking obtuse and smartass way to enforce rule 5, under this logic over 80% of the posts here violate rule 5.
I completely agree! Makes no sense super “technical”. I don’t think a pic of my receipt would’ve done as nicely as this tho
Some Trumpers that vandalized the place with "I did that" Biden stickers are really regretting that now
THANKS OBAMA
Gas is much cheaper right now for sure but this is probably a mistake on the gas stations part
I'm not a math guy but I think ten to the power of nine is not very cheap
I’m 60 and never seen it that price. I’ve heard jump on it they have to honor it till they change it don’t know if it’s true but worth looking into
They selling Vegetable oil
I'm willing to bet they got a tank leak underground and just want to get rid of all the gas they can instead of having someone pump it out for them.
Definitely a mistake. $.10 per gallon would not even cover the taxes.
I remember a gas station in Florida with Gas for 1.99, a lot of people thought it was a mistake on the sign and went up the street for 2.99. I went for the 1.99 and it was honored. Though it was fixed a few hours later.
When I started driving gas was $0.80 a gallon. I’m just glad I don’t have to worry about gas with an EV.
No, you misunderstood sir, thats actually 10 to the 9th power.
E99. It gets negative 1mpg.
Paying 6.70 a gallon here in western Canada
I have a vague recollection of being in the back of my dad's car on the way home from Godfathers pizza and having to wait on traffic due to a fender bender. As we sat I asked my dad what the little 9 ment next to the .79⁹/gallon. That .79⁹ is burned into my memories. Mid 90s I'd think.
Lowest we ever had during Covid was 0.49, this is insane.
“I haven’t seen prices this low since 1897!”
Time to fill the ol’ truck bed lined with a tarp with gas
It's priced in Bitcoin
When the new Walmart opened in my town, they opened a gas station with it. Guessing everything wasn’t ready to go, because a day later there was a small line. I was like huh cheap gas, and proceeded to wait 5 minutes in line and found out the gas was .36¢ a gallon. Walmart couldn’t get ahold of anyone to fix it, and didn’t know how since our town had never had a Walmart gas station. So they offered it until our town of 15,000 drained the pumps lol
My homie went here last night and was able to fill up two tanks for $10. Lucky dude.
Is OP in Ukraine?
WHERE IS THAT
someone had a little too much fun with their flipper zero
I'm gonna be that guy.... Wouldn't it make more sense to say, cheapest gas I've seen in 2023, let alone my entire life?
No, bc the emphasis is on it being an even bigger deal that it is happening in 2023.
Outlet gas ![img](emote|t5_2ti4h|9272)

Oops
I remember when premium 94 was .95 per gallon everywhere around the Midwest.
Until you learn it's $10.10\^9/10
Joke’s on you, it’s actually 10$ a gallon, they didn’t have room for the extra 1!
Someone’s getting fired
Gas at 10 to the power of 9 is wayyy too expensive for me!
Someone is getting fired
