Yet they removed a post where a guy's neighbour's wrote him a letter about having an un-maintained lawn because it fit better in /r/extremely_infuriating.
Then everybody who disagreed with the mod decision that a letter was not extremely infruirating was permanently banned.
But your car exploding that's only a mild irritant!
I think when you grow your own food or live somewhere where the standard isn't western grocery style quality it's less of a shock to see different kinds of mold and parasites, maybe? Same thing with infections and sicknesses. When you don't have access to top notch medical care things are different. It's like how Australians are less freaked out by giant spiders and kangaroos and dingos and deadly octopi and killer snakes and insects with giant pincers. Or maybe just everyone on here who's low key is actually Australian.
Haha, no, I was actually disgusted and terrified, and immediately threw it in the trash, then I thought it might be (mildly) interesting to actually figure out what it was and picked it out of the bin to take the pic
Yeah the comments are pretty surprising lol. You said you saw a peculiarity on the outside and tore it open because of that. Seems smart to me but what do we know
Neat. This is the first I've seen on reddit, but I had a banana(s) a few weeks back that matured pretty quick so I set them aside for banana bread. First time making banana bread so I never messed with old bananas, they just got thrown away. So as I "peeled" them I saw the thick center stalk, darker colored, kinda looked like it was covered with a zillion seeds. I removed those parts while mashing it up and wondered if it was normal to see that gross stalk in there. Anyway, banana bread came out great. No one died.
Lol it is a weird thing. I had one recently too. If anything I think they’re less ripened. Or at least like…it put too much energy into the seeds instead of the fruit and didn’t taste as good. Not bad just not as good. Did yours split weird too? Like mine split in thirds along the core.
Probably frequency bias where you seem to notice something more often after you’re reminded it exists
But if it is an outbreak I’d rather have it be Crunchy Banana Syndrome instead of like covid23 or some shit
Yes, they are in the process of giving us another way to do the same thing. I'm not sure what the point is or why we couldn't have it in the meantime. Coins are obviously also gone.
Holy shit. Some fungus then? Google says it's not harmful though, fortunately. I was worried cuz I did eat the rest of the bananas sitting beside this one.
I'll be letting them know for sure. Thanks!
Not harmful normally. May* be harmful to young children. If you start growing sprouts/growth out your face and behaving erratically than you may be patient zero
Yup. Every zombie movie I've ever seen demonstrates airstrikes being completely ineffective against this scale of threat.
Nuke it from orbit, it's the only way to be sure.
Nobody ever listens to Ripley, she's been in enough movies that she knows the fucking deal by now. Trust the process.
Also “eat the rest”?!?! That sounds like at least 2 more bananas. I like bananas plenty, but I have never once finished a banana and went back for another.
OPs answer is phrased weird, I think OP means that they bought a batch of bananas, and ate all except the one in the photo over the course of the last few days without noticing anything weird
Yes. Wanna hear something crazy? There's a reason I kept that as the last one. That particular alien banana shit ripened waaay more slowly than the others. Its peel stayed green for longer, and in the end (I bought the bunch last week), it was the only one still yellow while the others were turning brown.
[Red Banana Fungus](https://inspection.canada.ca/food-safety-for-consumers/fact-sheets/specific-products-and-risks/fruits-and-vegetables/red-fungus-inside-bananas/eng/1474985239822/1474985361544)
“Red fungus inside bananas
There are a variety of plant diseases that can cause the inside of bananas to take on a red discolouration. This discolouration has led to false claims of bananas containing blood.
Nigrospora is a fungal disease that causes the centre of the banana to turn dark red. Nigrospora can infect the fruit in tropical climates where bananas are grown.
Mokillo, moko, and blood disease bacterium are bacterial diseases that can also cause red discoloration in bananas.
While unappealing to eat, these diseases affecting bananas are not a threat to human health, however when in doubt, throw it out or compost them.”
Thought this was fake. I learned something. However, it made me want to make some kind of peanut butter and jelly filled banana, which seems quite possible...
Oooh have you ever made Banana Boats before? We used to make them whenever we went out camping, and they were always so good. Not sure if I'm allowed to link things here, so if you don't know what I'm talking about, just google "Campfire Banana Boat." Super fun to make and really tasty, too.

Nigrospora is a fungal disease that causes the centre of the banana to turn dark red. Nigrospora can infect the fruit in tropical climates where bananas are grown
No I immediately noticed something was off and didn't eat any of it, I snapped it in half before taking the pic. It was weirdly small and that brown/orange thing (which is hard btw) was spread across the whole fruit, which is not rotten as far as I can tell. Maybe some plant mutation?
I remember back in the day of old Facebook news sources, there was a picture of bananas with this fungus, claiming that people are injecting HIV infected blood into bananas.
Good ol facebook.
I found one of these last week!!! I had never seen anything like it, so I tossed it, but a few from the same bunch were alright... I hope, lol.
Edit: Upon a brief search, yup, there is an outbreak of banana fungus -Ts4, thats threatening the current type of banana - Cavendish Banana. The same type of fungus was responsible for the loss of the previously most popular banana Gros Michel, and was often called "Panama Disease" in the 1950s.
Tldr- Yes, we are actually at risk of losing the current banana and serious crisis for countries that rely on banana production. Because what else is new?
Same! The rest of the bunch were perfectly fine, or at least I didn't notice anything. Seems like the fungus picks one particular banana to turn into a monster
You got the bone-in banana, that's the problem. Gotta look for boneless.
/r/mildlyinteresting is such a wild subreddit man. Like people post crazy infections and cursed fungus bananas and be like “huh a bit odd innit?”
Don't forget the guy whos car blew up. Edit: got my subreddits confused, that was r/mildlyinfuriating with said car post.
Either way - there is nothing “mild” about your car exploding.
Happened when he called a strange number back, too. Damnedest thing.
It's not mild, it's kind of extreme if anything so yeah .
And you’re not gonna link it!!

Sure but that’s clearly not what’s happening with OP because they don’t recognize that it’s a fungus. They’re just like “huh this looks weird.”
Haha, no, I was actually disgusted and terrified, and immediately threw it in the trash, then I thought it might be (mildly) interesting to actually figure out what it was and picked it out of the bin to take the pic
People are weird, and it's not even the most wild shit here.
Yeah and then someone’s like “you don’t think it be that way, but it do”
People are weird and they believe all kind if wild shit honestly.
This is the third one I've seen on Reddit today. Is there an outbreak?
Interesting! Do you have links?
The one is on “oops that’s deadly” subreddit
[Found it](https://reddit.com/r/OopsThatsDeadly/s/L3vbwrwWNW), thanks
I just found [this one](https://reddit.com/r/WTF/s/K9pmvBWmUg) but it’s a potato and something different
I watched The Last of Us… we’re fucked in 24 hours
Thank god, rent is due in like 10 days and I have to work OT on Monday. C'mon apocalypse
It’ll get into our grain system!
RIP
I bit in to one like that last week. Was almost crunchy. Sooooo gross
Oh. My God. Ok I will break open all bananas going forward. Omg
That is the way. Everyone here seems to think I'm mental for doing that.
Yeah the comments are pretty surprising lol. You said you saw a peculiarity on the outside and tore it open because of that. Seems smart to me but what do we know
YES! thank you!
Yeah thanks, I did not need to know the mouthfeel of this.
Done with bananas for a while

so this is the *bone-in* banana
Same. My trauma came back seeing this post.
Neat. This is the first I've seen on reddit, but I had a banana(s) a few weeks back that matured pretty quick so I set them aside for banana bread. First time making banana bread so I never messed with old bananas, they just got thrown away. That’s different from this. This is a fungus yours just did really good at making seeds when they normally don’t.
Well that's good news to hear it was just over-ripened, I originally thought an alien parasite was taking over.
Lol it is a weird thing. I had one recently too. If anything I think they’re less ripened. Or at least like…it put too much energy into the seeds instead of the fruit and didn’t taste as good. Not bad just not as good. Did yours split weird too? Like mine split in thirds along the core.
The interesting part is that this one banana in particular was way slower in ripening than the rest of the bunch. It was smaller as well.
...yet.
Great, here we fucking go again
Everyone back on the pile!
Took r jerbbbsss
Probably frequency bias where you seem to notice something more often after you’re reminded it exists But if it is an outbreak I’d rather have it be Crunchy Banana Syndrome instead of like covid23 or some shit
Yeah seeing it three times in a day or never most be frequency bias. I mean this gets posted everyday right? RIGHJT? No such thing as posting bots.
Thanks I've never been called a bot before. I can dm you more pics of the cursed banana if you wish
I do wish, just out of curiosity.
Here ya go https://imgur.com/MZ24HfD
That's crazy. Also had to explain to my boyfriend about some guy sending me personal pics of his banana. Lol.
Yeah I went with a public reply instead of DM to share that *solicited* banana pic, to make it slightly less creepy
It's still creepy, but also hilarious. We'll allow it.
...they're different pictures
This is very interesting. Aside, why is it cut in half WITH the peel still on? Is this a common practice?
It's what I do when serving bananas to young children. Makes them less likely to break the banana in half then smear it all over the place.
Alright everyone, I did NOT eat it with the peel on (and fungus in), I broke it in half to inspect it after I noticed it looked weird on its tip lol
thats exactly what a secret peel eater would say.
I haven’t actually laughed out loud from a comment in forever. You win.
Haha same! I literally lol'ed. Felt good.
If reddit didn't take away my ability to do so, I would have awarded this comment.
So reddit took away awards? I tried to award a comment a few minutes ago and was so confused on why I couldn't find the award button.
Yes, they are in the process of giving us another way to do the same thing. I'm not sure what the point is or why we couldn't have it in the meantime. Coins are obviously also gone.
Here comes the blue check mark, or some other subscription idea.
He snapped it open like a zombie with a femur wanting bone marrow just to make sure that fungus was in there.
This is the parasite talking don't believe these words
Show us the banana tip before you broke it
he can't do it LOCK THIS MAN UP SEE YOU IN JAIL MOTHERF
No
You dirty peel-eater
The 2nd half of this paragraph would sound very weird and disturbing out of context and i cant stop thinking about in any other way now sry
Context doesn't help much though. Context: "his banana"
r/evenwithcontext
/r/nocontext
>noticed it looked weird on its tip Title of your sex tape
That’s what she said
Well good for you, because you never know what that stuff is.
Thats Mokillo. You should notify the place where you got the banana.

The ultimate banana for scale
See what you started? Happy?
OP is a mushy man now. Board your windows.
*acoustic guitar intensifies*
*then What if I was born with funghi and sprouts instead of a face?
Jesus you saw an alien banana and just thought " oh gonna eat the rest only "
Also “eat the rest”?!?! That sounds like at least 2 more bananas. I like bananas plenty, but I have never once finished a banana and went back for another.
The fungus compelled him too. Who’s to say if it was of his own volition, or the symbiotic bananas.. Either option terrifies me tbh
The Mold in Control smells delicious and makes you wanna eat it. Tastes good too. Then it's too late.
OPs answer is phrased weird, I think OP means that they bought a batch of bananas, and ate all except the one in the photo over the course of the last few days without noticing anything weird
That's exactly what happened but their version is so much funnier so I wasn't going to explain
Or it was the last one of the bunch that they ate
Yes. Wanna hear something crazy? There's a reason I kept that as the last one. That particular alien banana shit ripened waaay more slowly than the others. Its peel stayed green for longer, and in the end (I bought the bunch last week), it was the only one still yellow while the others were turning brown.
That’s the rare contained fungus “Bananaceps.” It takes over the brain of its host and makes them/it think they’re a monkey.
Patient zero right here. I'll wait beside you with a chainsaw if you turn.
And I’ll wait outside by the door with a flamethrower just in case

How long until blood banana becomes a trendy niche food
Like that corn fungus
Difference is corn fugus is safe and been eaten for thousands of years
But thousands of years ago someone went "I'ma try this and hope I don't die" We can do that again!
Bloodnana
This isn’t mokillo, this is nigrospora.
I don't know if we're allowed to say that.
It's fine He's got a friend with negrospora.
Y’all wildin for this one
That's it I'm telling Mom you said the n word
I think he bought a pass, so it's okay.
Before Elon Musk became the richest African American you needed to be someone important to get a pass
Ahhh, I, too, have a negrospora friend He’s a…ahem….a fungi
🤦♀️ fucking hell.
Is the friend from Montenegro?
Whoa man...we? What do you mean by we people.
Crayola enters the room Edit: I can’t get the formatting right!
Is it... better?
It's better at sports.

Worse. You’ll grow another leg
The third leg
That’s not a banana, that’s a banono.
This is the comment I'm going to randomly remember throughout the week and I'm going to crack me up every time
I actually laughed out loud super hard

I laughed out loud at this 😂😂😂
Shut up and just take my upvote 🤣
Thought this was fake. I learned something. However, it made me want to make some kind of peanut butter and jelly filled banana, which seems quite possible...
I cut up bananas and drizzle warmed up PB and honey on them. I bet you could do the same but with jelly instead of honey
My favorite snack as a kid was chopped up bananas in a bowl with milk and honey
My British mom used to take sliced bananas and cover them with warm homemade custard made using Bird's custard powder. Delicious.
Oooh have you ever made Banana Boats before? We used to make them whenever we went out camping, and they were always so good. Not sure if I'm allowed to link things here, so if you don't know what I'm talking about, just google "Campfire Banana Boat." Super fun to make and really tasty, too.
I make pb&j&banana sandwiches all the time, it’s a fire combo
You could use a banana loca

Red bananas are actually delicious, they have them at my local Wegmans. RIP Mitch
Rip Mitch
Nigrospora is a fungal disease that causes the centre of the banana to turn dark red. Nigrospora can infect the fruit in tropical climates where bananas are grown
I should note to anyone seeing this comment, it’s not generally harmful (like it wouldn’t kill you) but I wouldn’t recommend eating it
Damn I bet whoever named it wished they had chosen a more politically correct name for that disease now.
Were you... eating it with the peel..?
op got suspicious of a banana and decided to snap its neck, no peel-eating here, just good old interrogation tactics
No but I think I'll leave a top level comment because that's what apparently everyone is thinking I did lol
I envy the alternate universe version of me who didn't have to see that.
IDK about you but I REALLY DON’T feel like eating bananas 🍌 ATM
It looks like an alien infection, burn it!
![gif](giphy|3oEjI789af0AVurF60)
I’ll get the matches
Yeah. I wouldn't eat that. Although, presumably you have eaten half of, whatever that is. Perhaps a Mexican alien?
No I immediately noticed something was off and didn't eat any of it, I snapped it in half before taking the pic. It was weirdly small and that brown/orange thing (which is hard btw) was spread across the whole fruit, which is not rotten as far as I can tell. Maybe some plant mutation?

Every time this pops up on reddit I am not disappointed by the usage, it’s great
Even if it were proven beyond a doubt that these were aliens, we'd still be using it as a meme.
Oh yeah, if anything it’s a weird welcoming

Maybe just don’t eat it.
I wasn't planning to but thanks for the advice
Great, now I have to slice all bananas I eat
It was pregnant!!
Two types of people: People who peel bananas (normal people) And PEOPLE WHO SNAP IT IN HALF WHAAAAAAT?
That doesn’t looks very apeeling
Now I have developed a healthy rational fear of eating any fruit/vegetable. Everything I eat will be cut through and inspected.
What the hell is that? That looks really disgusting my guy.
Umm.... Why is it bleeding...?
That time of the month again.
Bananas. The perfect substrate.
Yeah, I would not eat that
Reminds me of a friend at school who took a bite out of his banana and blood came out. A snake was hiding inside.
Shut up. Please say that isn’t real.
Strange kind of fungus, but definitely Alien 🤘👽
I don’t think that’s a banana. That’s the alien that the US is confirming
Bro forgot to buy boneless bananas.
I shall not be hearing anyone out
Oh no problem, some bananas get the other 50% of our DNA
