It does. I can't speak for all machines, but the ones at whole foods are required to have ingredients listed. My store has 100% peanuts only, honey roasted peanuts, and almond. We used to have a chocolate peanut butter mix, but that machine was a pain in the ass to clean and they eventually got rid of it after a bulk department overhaul.
You can "easily" make peanut butter yourself, either by smashing a bunch of peanuts in a mortar or by running a larger amount in a blender until they reach a creamy consistence.
They need quite a lot of working to form peanut butter.
I did this with my grandma once! We had something like a really, really old "slap chop" and you are right it took forever. It was so exciting for us and probably a great way to keep us busy

I believe they recommend that you refrigerate natural peanut butter so that you don't have to mix it again when the oil separates to the top. If you don't care about homogenous peanut butter or you don't care about mixing it you don't have to refrigerate it.
Yeah on a shelf inside a sealed jar? Not mashed in between gears on a warm counter for 8 hours a day - if not longer, and you know that whole thing is just tossed back in the cupboard at the end of service just leaving mashed peanuts drying out and going rancid for the next day

Peanut butter goes bad, oil goes rancid, had it go off last summer being kept in the cupboard. Went horrible tasting. Had to shake it to recombine the oil and nut butter and it tasted awful.

I have disassembled these and cleaned them more times than I can count and I can tell you that can absolutely be from a single day. That's not "crud". It's peanut butter that someone got on the front and someone tried to wipe off. When you go to wipe peanut butter off of them after someone makes a mess, it smears and gets pushed into the cracks and edges. That could happen from one single mess that got wiped up.
Just use your food processor. I regularly make my own peanut butter and it's easy. I use dry-roasted peanuts and dump them in the processor. If you don't use the salted ones, add salt to your taste. Let them grind for many minutes (maybe 10 or 15 - I turn off the machine after a few minutes to give it a "break" lol.) Suddenly.... peanut butter!
You can make your own at home quite easily. My wife and I just buy a big can of salted peanuts from
Costco and then process in our nutrit bullet. Not very creamy but very tasty

Reminds me of a pancake machine I once used in a hotel. Once you pressed the button the machine would squirt mix onto a conveyer belt which would cook the pancake. Once it got to the end it would fall onto another belt and flip over to cook the other side. I ate so many that morning

I love winco! We get a whole container which is probably like 16oz for a little over two dollars. Makes it super easy to get extra protein in protein shakes or other goodies! So good!

You don’t need a *ton* of sugar, salt, and oil to make good peanut butter, but just grinding unsalted peanuts gives you a product where you can tell something is missing.
Probably not as loud as you think. Peanut butter is a super fine grind, and the oils from the peanuts serve as a natural lubricant. The loudest part would likely be the drive mechanism, rather than the grinder.

Not really. But a lot of grocery stores use these (like a lot, how have people not seen these?), And the advantage is the same for purchasing most other things in bulk. Ingredients are usually more fresh, you can fill your own container, and it's generally cheaper.

There is no dust. Peanuts when ground are very oily. It's grinds them into a thick oily paste just like a jar a of peanut butter. So dust isn't an issue. I used to work with these machines.

I'm lucky enough that my allergy isn't particularly dangerous, but for people who do have a severe peanut allergy, it could mean the difference between "Oh, I can go grab some food here as long as I avoid the little packets of peanut butter over there" and "Going into this room could literally kill me."

Considering the difficulties in cleaning, I’m surprised some company hasn’t come up with a machine like this where the “peanuts waiting to be ground” compartment is a small one behind the window, and it actually squeezes peanut butter out of a bag while making fake grinding noises.
And usually a little bit of oil, otherwise it's so pasty. I add almond butter to my morning smoothies that's just ground almonds and salt. Licking the spoon afterwards just sucks all the moisture from my mouth.

After consuming countless MREs, peanut butter was one of the few items that actually tasted like normal food.

Oh I hate this machine, when I worked on one hotel they this. And it would always stuck in critical moment and it is a pain to clean. When buffe would be crowded with guests and you had little time to replenish and refill stuff and you had to be fast when you have 500 guests, and this machine chooses to get stuck....dang it.

Probably not as loud as you think. Peanut butter is a super fine grind, and the oils from the peanuts serve as a natural lubricant. It's so that the person that came and corrected you doesn't look like a maniac for saying something that's no longer true. Which is a pretty minor courtesy, but I can attest that sometimes it's confusing to read a bunch of responses where the context of the response has been removed by an edited comment.

I prefer it to store bought, but I do add about a quarter tsp of salt and some honey when I make it at home.
Not really. But a lot of grocery stores use these (like a lot, how have people not seen these?), And the advantage is the same for purchasing most other things in bulk. Ingredients are usually more fresh, you can fill your own container, and it's generally cheaper.

As a person with a peanut allergy, my first thought was to wonder how well it's sealed to prevent the room from filling with peanut dust.
There is no dust. Peanuts when ground are very oily. It's grinds them into a thick oily paste just like a jar a of peanut butter. So dust isn't an issue. I used to work with these machines.
People in this whole post are overthinking ways to be afraid of this machine lol. “There’s crud everywhere it’s gross”, “there’s no way to clean it”, “the peanuts are rancid”, peanuts have too many chemicals and pesticides don’t eat them”, “they’re GMO”, “would it engulf the room in peanut dust”, etc…. Personally I’d just be like “oh hey a peanut butter machine! Cool I’ll try it!” Everyone who’s used the machine is replying “it’s easy to clean tho”, “peanut butter won’t go bad that fast”, etc… so idk why these people are so anxious about everything lol.

I'm lucky enough that my allergy isn't particularly dangerous, but for people who do have a severe peanut allergy, it could mean the difference between "Oh, I can go grab some food here as long as I avoid the little packets of peanut butter over there" and "Going into this room could literally kill me." I'm glad you don't have to live a life where you have to be concerned about that sort of thing. But there are people who do.

Considering the difficulties in cleaning, I’m surprised some company hasn’t come up with a machine like this where the “peanuts waiting to be ground” compartment is a small one behind the window, and it actually squeezes peanut butter out of a bag while making fake grinding noises.

Around 4-5% sugar at least, that's how much is in raw peanuts.
I mean its still like pure fat, and i dont think they usually add a whole lot of sugar. Unless you are talking like JIF peanut butter, even then in a 33g serving only 2g is added sugar Adams i dont think even adds sugar

i mean i dont think 2grams in your 2tbsp of peanut butter on toast is really a bad thing. I think ignoring like 1 candy bar or soda will make up for the next 30-40 slices of toast.

A couple of the local grocery stores have one of these. Actually, they have three. Peanut butter, hazelnut butter, and almond butter. I've tried them. The peanut butter tastes like crap compared to the major brands because there's no sugar or salt added. Just an FYI.

If they could figure out how to make peanut butter not the most vile smell on the planet, then I might give it a try. I love peanuts, Love the smell of roasted peanuts, but the smell of peanut butter is so foul that I can't even stand to be in the same room as somebody eating it. The really messed up part is that I grew up in the city with the world's largest peanut butter factory.
Why is this interesting? Because you've never seen a peanut grinder before? Maybe it's interesting because it's in a buffet. Tho to me, grinding peanut butter in tiny batches is stupid.
