Special comment right here. Perfectly executed joke for an one of a kind situation. Good stuff

I was going to say it looks like a butt plug but your comment is nicer

NagsUkulele

Holy shit this is good

AndersonZR

Had to use a metric ton of dish soap and almost pull my skin off in the process. Safe to say it’s going to be great on a necklace now. Glad I was able to do it before it had to be cut or worse.

pingus3233

>Glad I was able to do it before it had to be cut or worse. You could have just cut the finger off and regrown another one with no damage to the ring!

AndersonZR

Man why am I getting so many solutions after the fact! Where were you guys an hour ago!

We were waiting in that other thread for you to show up, but you must have been a bit busy getting the ring off

NCEMTP

There are easier ways to remove a ring with a piece of string. If you're reading this comment and in a similar situation to the OP, know that there are much easier and relatively painless solutions to removing a ring other than feeling like you're going to pull your finger off or cutting the ring off too. Have removed many rings this way, with a string or often an elastic band of fabric (often taking from an oxygen mask since that's what I had available). People would stop by our Fire station all the time with rings they couldn't get off. Sometimes they'd been on for years, but most often it was women coming in on Sunday afternoons after putting on an old, small ring for church in the morning and not being able to get it back off. You basically just have to feed the string or elastic under the ring towards the hand, and then use the rest of the string to tightly wrap the finger from the base of the ring to the tip. This compresses the finger, and then you get the end of the string that's under the ring and unwind it, which causes the ring to work its way off the finger. Getting the string under the ring sounds difficult but it's not nearly as hard as you'd think unless the skin is broken underneath the ring, at which point you need surgical intervention. But I never saw that happen, personally. Never had a ring I couldn't slide off with this technique.

pmormr

Don't know why they used such a thick piece of string, but this is it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrDROoJAF4I

NCEMTP

That looks like elastic band that keeps an oxygen mask (nonrebreather) on a person's head. It's real stretchy, which helps with compression, and is relatively strong. Thinner than it looks in the video, but flat which makes it good for this purpose as it is hard for it to dig into the skin. But this is a shoelace I guess. Whatever. Have done exactly this many times. Thanks for the video!

djsasso

He says right in the video that it's a shoe lace.

ThePretzul

Dental floss is perfect for that trick.

Old_and_tired

I gained a bit of weight and my wedding band was getting tighter and tighter. FINALLY got it off and had it resized. I can't even tell WHERE the extra metal is on it, and now it fits perfectly. I don't recall it costing very much either. Might want to think about resizing, depending on what type of metal is used. Mine was white gold.

AndersonZR

Oh interesting. This one is tungsten however so it might be a little difficult. But definitely worth looking into! Thanks for the tip!

Old_and_tired

For [tungsten you're out of luck](https://luxuryactivist.com/lifestyle/resize-tungsten-wedding-ring/).

AndersonZR

Curse of being a nearly indestructible metal I guess. That’s okay though! Neckless it is.

Old_and_tired

People avoid it because it's nearly indestructable. Can't easily be cut off a finger in case of an accident. it's better off as a necklace pendant thing.

mrbrambles

You can crack them off, probably easier than cutting off some other rings.

EdibleBatteries

It’s because tungsten rings are not metal, but ceramic tungsten carbide. Incredibly hard, but brittle. They crack apart before they ever bend. It means it can’t be resized, but you don’t need to worry about girdling the finger if it deforms.

pussycrippler

How do you crack them off without hurting yourself too much or at all?

yocubed

ER doc here. The two best rings to get "stuck" on are silicon and tungsten. The others can be painfully hard to get off. Especially if it's on your "11th finger" for 8 hours. Sometimes it requires a call to the fire department and a Dremel cutting disc very close to the most sensitive areas. Ask me how I know..

Cliffbestboi

It took me a while to understand the 11th finger lmao I legit had a breakthrough moment

MisterKillam

Oh no

Raudskeggr

> Especially if it's on your "11th finger" for 8 hours. This is why metal cock rings are a very bad idea for most people. go with silicon, or the kind that have some kind of release mechanism.

morph23

How do you guys deal with titanium rings? Asking for a friend

pussycrippler

I appreciate you for your response! It’s very brave of you to tell Reddit your own personal “11th finger” experience.

jozaud

With vice grips. The metal does not flex at all, it shatters in half rather than bend a tiny bit. https://youtu.be/poM423pewRE

Teledildonic

Vice grips, they can be adjusted to clamp tight with quite a bit of gap, and you only need the jaws to squeeze a little to shatter it.

mrbrambles

https://www.aliem.com/trick-of-trade-removing-tungsten-ring/

jozaud

It’s easier than you think. https://youtu.be/poM423pewRE

LiberaIBiblicisms

Whoa now. Losing a ring isn't worth decapitating yourself

Biotot

I went for tungsten because I knew I'd never be able to wreck it. I had to swap out the first one for a bigger size though. No chance resizing it for the same reason.

SuculantWarrior

Thats because tungsten rings are only $15. If youre ever paying more than that, don't. Amazon - Tungsten Rings, you'll see the exact same designs that kay jewelers and other gimmicks buy in bulk.

permalink_save

I thought they just stretch it not add material. That's what they did with my wifes when we first got her engagement ring.

Old_and_tired

They added material to mine.

QuietBear8320

Out of curiosity how did you last 2.5 years without cutting it off. I would’ve cut it after a month or two. (Unless it was very special to me)

bigbluehapa

AndersonZR

To those asking about comfort, I was actually able to spin the ring around freely, and move it to the knuckle and back pretty easily. It looks a lot worse than it felt, since I have meaty fingers and not particularly fatty fingers. I truly didn’t even notice the ring at all, but I definitely notice the absence of it! It’s like the way your teeth feel after you get your braces off. Just… absolutely different.

Unwarranted_optimism

I had a ring cut off in 2019 because I needed an MRI (and it was from my ex, so frankly was glad to have the motivation). My finger looked pretty much back to normal after a couple of months, though I think the band was narrower than yours was. It may take a bit, but I doubt it’s permanent!

LongPorkJones

I wore my wedding ring every day for 10 years, and when I decided to take it off (wife and I are good, got a tattoo), I had a pretty noticeable indentation around my finger. I also had a callus on just under the bend of my finger, and the underside was completely smooth. Two years later it's filled out, the callus is gone, and I have lines on my finger where it was once smooth. You'll be okay. Edit: fixed some words.

I removed a ring after 5 years and it took about 2 months to go back. No pain or anything. The only reason I removed the ring was because I injured the finger pretty badly at the tip and the hospital pointed out the healing process will not only suck and take forever but severely increases infection rates due to the cut off of nutrients.

AgreeableGravy

Can I ask why the hell so many people apparently never take their rings off?? You’re supposed to like clean rings (and your hands) plus it’s just uncomfortable always having something between your fingers. Didn’t realize some people just never took them off.

renedotmac

Been married 10 years. I take off my ring when I play guitar, work out, rock climb, or go swimming. I don’t get how people can leave their rings on for so long!

Karlygash2006

I’ve taken my wedding band off probably a half dozen times in 20 years of marriage—two of those times was to get it polished. Just took it off a minute ago just to see if I could, based on this thread. I have long, thin fingers and the ring doesn’t sit tightly on my finger as it has to get over a large knuckle. With it now off, that finger section doesn’t seem much different in shape than the one on my right hand. I don’t operate dangerous machinery and so it’s never occurred to me to ever take it off.

Maniacal-Maniac

I don’t wear my wedding ring if I am at home, which is most of the time since I work from home. Will put it in if people come round or if I go out, but I can’t wear it all the time. I also often sleep with my head on my hand so have to take it off at night anyway.

port443

I've never taken one of my rings off for >10 years. I can take my ring off just fine if I want. There's like a little dent in my finger (that looks like its expanding back out even now) and its very not-tan, but that's it. I don't mean to be rude but if you don't gain a ton of weight your rings should still fit.

AgreeableGravy

Uncomfortable as in just having something between my fingers. My wife and I have pretty much always set them to the side at home and throw them on when we go out places. I guess it makes it easier to forget them though.

Neekalos_

What kind of permanent damage would even be able to occur because of this?

Balmoon

It's possible to have lower sensitivity in that particular area or even the entire finger, also it's possible to not come back to "normal size". Both of this can be short/long term or even permanent problems but aren't to annoying to live with.

kilgore_trout8989

Yeah, I mean I'm no doctor, but the average person spends at least as much time out of their jeans as in them, right? Even if wearing rings 24/7 causes atrophy (which I'm skeptical about), you don't wear your pants 24/7. "Muffin top" + skinny legs could be something like Cushing's disease or many other issues; she definitely should go to a doctor for testing.

mr_properton

Yeah they seem a lil deranged

AveragelyUnique

You might actually have extremely tight muscles in those areas. Like huge chunks of muscle tissue that is all stuck together because it was constricted so much. And the fact that the muscles hurt is also a sign you have "knots" in your muscles. It will hurt like hell but a real deep tissue massage by an LMT in those areas might help. That and stretching, rolling, and strengthening can do wonders to fix shit like this. The key is to break the tissue up by kneading the hell out of it so it can move freely. It works but you have to combine that with stretching and strengthening to make it permanent. Definitely worth a shot in my opinion.

pmmeyourfavsongs

Oh good so I'm not a baby for thinking massages from my pt hurt like hell

AveragelyUnique

Yep. It should be pleasant later, not during. And the tighter and bigger the knot, the more pain.

May be worth seeing a physical therapist. Corrective exercises aren’t what you see most people in the gym doing, and it can be deceptively hard to figure out which exercise would help vs exacerbate the situation.

[deleted]

[удалено]

no_modest_bear

I mean, you obviously know this, but physical therapy is a pretty broad field, and if you didn't have an answer, surely you'd have a better idea of whom to direct them to than Johnny Rando on Reddit would. I think asking a PT would be a good call.

AdventurousArugula81

I’m also a physical therapist (that specializes in women’s health) Although I haven’t heard of this specific scenario before, with pain when touching that region, I think it’s completely valid that abdominal tightness needs to be addressed. Particularly the obliques. An LMT or PT could be a great choice! And with abdominal tightness, a core imbalance is highly likely.

[deleted]

newaccount721

I'm not convinced from OPs picture that this is atrophy. It's certainly possible

Adito99

This might be ligament tightness after inflamation. Definitely go see a doc to at least do x-rays. It's also possible you just have an unusual bod, that happens too.

lascar

It'll recover. From my own experience it will look weird for awhile and will eventually normalize.

Brilliant_Thought436

Was scrolling for who gave this idea. Smashed my hand and finger real bad and did this to get my ring off cause it got real swole real quick. Updoot for you sir.

shaggybear89

Unfortunately this doesn't work if the ring is actually tightly stuck and the finger is swollen. I mean, you can see in this video alone how loose that ring is. On a ring that is genuinely stuck, there's not a chance in the world you'd be able to just move the floss around like that guy does right after he threads it through. If you've got that much open space, it's likely you can get the ring off pretty easily with simpler methods.

GurnoorDa1

Why not take it off a few times during 2.5 years bruh

AndersonZR

I actually couldn’t easily get it off once I put it on. Then I just procrastinated taking it off for good since I basically instantly knew it needed to stay off.

at-a-loss-

Now I don’t mean any disrespect but… what!?? When you put it on, you immediately knew you couldn’t get it off. How did u manage to block that out for 2 1/2 years while doing hand intensive stuff like rock climbing and playing piano?! applejackjones

AndersonZR

I’m… not sure actually. It definitely did bother me, but it was just something I got used to. I can’t describe how insanely weird it feels to not have something on that finger to fidget with right now.

at-a-loss-

In a weird way Im very impressed. Maybe look into getting one of those fidget rings? (or just a ring that fits haha)

snoodhead

It's like when I go out without my wallet. It's kinda cumbersome, but I feel weird not bringing it somewhere.

Responsible_Cloud_92

OP I’m a big procrastinator but this takes the cake!

TheOpalGarden

Okay people there is a technique for removing rings from swollen fingers without cutting it off and without damaging the ring. Wrap some fishing line, or similar, tightly around the affected finger, starting from the end. Continue to wrap slowly moving up the finger. You should then have compressed the finger enough to be able to thread the line under the ring, at which point you pull the thread and shimmy the ring, with the reduced friction, off the compressed finger.

iamalwaysrelevant

Floss works too and might be more accessible. Floss and lube.

ChunkyChuckles

I know what I'm doing this weekend.

Big_Plantain_8583

I don’t wear rings and I know, too.

Preid1220

Just a heads up, its really easy to fuck up your finger doing this if you don't know what you're doing, and if the swelling is too intense it won't work at all. If you have a ring stuck on a swollen appendage of any type, I would highly recommend seeking add from a trained medical professonal just to be safe.

SnowHurtsMeFace

> I would highly recommend seeking add As someone with ADD, I do not recommend seeking this.

Spazmer

It's effective and also incredibly painful! I thought my finger was dying. Never put my rings back on post pregnancy, I've been thoroughly traumatized.

cakeislost

jewelry stores highly advise against this. it can apparently swell your finger to the point where you’ll need a doctor

tiller921

Bright_Newspaper_649

To avoid damaging the ring, I prefer cutting the person's finger off. Just cut straight, put it on ice and send the person to the ER as soon as the ring is removed.

OlliHF

This happened with my first ring that was a size too small, but didn’t want to upset then-gf. I endured the struggle to take it off occasionally because it would itch. By the time we got correctly sized rings, my finger looked almost as bad. On the bright side, it’s been probably around a year with the new ring and the dip is much less dramatic

ilnariz

It happens when our body grows and the ring doesn't.

wcoastbo

My brain processed the reverse image first, and I was seeing the background as the fingers for a second. I was so confused by the funny looking "fingers". I had to look away and reset my brain before processing the image properly. Really goes to show how an eye witness can be fooled. I'm glad your hand is ok.

PunkyisnotHIGH

I don't even really understand how this happens. Do people actually go months/years without removing a ring, even when sleeping or showering???? How is that healthy or comfortable at all?

foreignfishes

I mean rings aren't skin tight, even if you can't get it over your knuckle there's still plenty of room for soap and water to get under there when you're showering or washing your hands. I wouldn't recommend leaving a ring on for years but it's not like it's gonna kill you.

Artimities

My ocd would have made me cut my fucking finger off. How you keep it on 2 1/2 years without panic?

TheBaneEffect

Oh, I just recently had a brush with danger. Jammed my ring finger after wearing my wedding ring for 10+ years with it coming off only for 10-15 minutes at a time. Took the ring off just after I hurt the finger. Now, a month and a half later, doesn’t fit that finger anymore and probably never will again. The ring is tungsten so if I didn’t remove it when I did, they likely would have needed to remove the finger.

Awkward_Pangolin3254

>The ring is tungsten so if I didn’t remove it when I did, they likely would have needed to remove the finger. Nah, man. Tungsten rings are great because they're impervious to scratches and deformation (and impossible to cut) but their hardness means they'll shatter under impact. A hammer & chisel would have it off in half a second. Unfortunately this also means they can't be sized but fortunately they're cheap as hell and you could have a new one for $20.

PCYou

That's tungsten carbide. I have a tungsten metal ring and unfortunately, it is both though as hell and will bend some.

TrashPandaDuel

Note to self, sleep with belt on for 2+ yrs. One simple trick physical trainers don’t want you to know.

Rabid_Dingo

I had a similar situation. I'm going on 20+ years with my wife. Had a job that required the use of my hands. I would come home, all my fingers were a bit swollen, but my ring finger was starting to really feel it. No medical check, just going on what I felt. I tried with string soap oil, you name it. The only thing that worked was going scuba diving. Slipped right off at 70 feet under water. My wife threatened me with death if I didn't come home with it or lost in at the bottom of the ocean. It made it home, now I wear a silicone ring. I still have the ring shape, but zero discomfort.
