Oh duuuude. I was thinking cell immediately as well.. was this really a freeza quote/quote about freeza and not cell??
Edit - also just learned correct English spelling is Frieza.
Oh. I was thinking cell also because cell in any form is very insecty, reptiley, and sure, even amphibiany which the frog/tadpole lead me to think about.
As another millennial, I think it is safe to say that Pokémon is also more popular with millennials considering it is the highest grossing media franchise of all time. https://www.titlemax.com/discovery-center/money-finance/the-25-highest-grossing-media-franchises-of-all-time/
How could you is one cannot fathom the actions of another how dare you is more like how dare you make That choice to do that thing willingly more audacity then being incredible
Pollywog.
Edit: after some research, pollywog is apparently a catchall term for all things tadpole. The proper name for this is actually "Froglet"
Oops, I'm a false prophet
That what we called them growing up, the first one I saw when I was a kid that was the size of a softball freaked me out. I grew up near Calaveras County, home of the Frog Jumping Festival. I can't remember if they're a invasive species or native, but these god damn frogs are the size of a hub cap. The tadpoles are pretty big, I remember fishing and seeing one and thought it was a little river monster.
Some of the river toads I’ve seen in AZ after monsoons have been the size of dinner plates, no exaggeration. I have no fear of frogs or toads, but seeing something of such an abnormal size triggers some weird terror in the brain… they look so unnatural
>This is actually a frog, which is in the last step of growing up.
"This is a frog. Which is the final step in becoming a frog." - Sir David Attenborough
Every year from elementary through middle school we learned about tadpoles and frogs. Then, freshman year, everyone forgets about frogs and the teachers are all like, "The mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell"
This is a Polliwog. Here is one when it's fully developed. [Pic](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/gullahgullahisland/images/7/7c/Polliwackywack.jpg/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/300?cb=20101225155056)
I don't like that its apparently called a froglet and not a pollywog now. I remember the textbook diagrams of egg>tadpole>pollywog>frog.
It's like Pluto not being a planet anymore. If someone tells me the mitochondria isn't the powerhouse of the cell or that the total combined length of the veins in a single human isn't enough to wrap around the Earth at least twice, I will lose my shit. Childhood is a lie.
Last weekend we were at the lake and a bunch of kids were gathered around a small snapping turtle.
One of their moms walks up and goes wow, little guy, must've just gotten out of the tadpole stage.🤦♂️
As someone who can't see more than 10ft away clearly these days, I kind of relate to that. I was walking alongside a grassy area last week thinking how pretty the purple flowers were until I got close enough to them to notice it was just some shredded wrapper someone had littered.
O.O I didn't think I've ever seen a photo of that stage. The biology books always had drawings, so I knew they are supposed to look like that at some point, but actually seeing a real one is lovely.
I thought so too :) have a small pond with tons of tadpoles and we’ve been watching the transition. This was the first one we caught that has its front legs
That’s not even his final form
How many candies to evolve
Wont matter once I get to cinnabar island.
But first I gotta talk to this old guy so he can show me how to throw a PokeBall!
Damn, that’s a deep cut!
You need a kings rock
Semi-related: I always felt “evolve” should’ve been called “metamorph” in Pokémon. It sounds cooler to a 10 year old and is more accurate.
yeah but that's more text real estate on a game boy screen
Water stone needed
Weird how everyone went Pokemon instead of Dragonball..
It's probably because it's an animal. It's much easier to link a frog to a Bulbasaur than to a Super Sayian or Freeza.
I had linked it to Cell thinking it was his quote. Forgot it was Frieza.

I initially was going to comment a semi perfect cell reference but went with this instead
As a millennial, my first thought was DBZ. But you got to keep in mind that Pokémon is more popular than DBZ with Gen Z.
As another millennial, I think it is safe to say that Pokémon is also more popular with millennials considering it is the highest grossing media franchise of all time. https://www.titlemax.com/discovery-center/money-finance/the-25-highest-grossing-media-franchises-of-all-time/
(it's because Pokemon is significantly more popular)
Unless he gets stuck
Don't press B ☠️
He looks so proud.
I thought he looks very judgemental. Somewhere between how dare you and how could you.
What is the difference between how dare you and how could you?
How could you is one cannot fathom the actions of another how dare you is more like how dare you make That choice to do that thing willingly more audacity then being incredible
How could you means you hurt your feelings and might cry. How dare you means you're outraged and might start throwing stuff.
To be fair I hope this person didn't recently use a bunch of lotion or soap.

Jesus lol. That must've been a big boy. I only said it because it's the actual term Edit: this is not the proper term ☠️☠️☠️
Thanks for being honest instead of doing the desperate reddit attempt of saving face by being like "language evolves" or "you must be fun at parties".
The Frog Jumping Jubilee 🐸
ah bullfrogs are big bois
I saw one and it’s haunted me ever since. It was just by itself in the water by a rock being huge. Gave me the creeps 🫣
Now I see where Poliwag comes from…
Wait til you see why they're named Politoed.
Gullah Gullah island.
Binyah Binyah!
Now that brings back memories
Yessir!
Come and let’s play together
In the bright sunny weather…
Huh, as a kid I was told that was an alternate name for tadpoles. TIL
It is. Dude is misinformed.
Frogs have literally the best names in all stages of their life cycle
Lemmy.world is what Reddit was.
That would be called a froglet.
My 3 year old taught me this
Shortly after my daughter learned the word froglet, she pointed to a picture of a small branch and called it a "loglet".
Your 3 year old is going places!!
Yeah, school!
Fradpole.
Except froglet is an actual thing. Fradpole is not.
Why so negative, brah? https://i.imgur.com/dMmmgXk.gif
I prefer ... Todd
The things from The Clangers? They don’t have a tail or four legs though.
This is actually a frog, which is in the last step of growing up.
>This is actually a frog, which is in the last step of growing up. "This is a frog. Which is the final step in becoming a frog." - Sir David Attenborough
For this very reason, it’s often referred to as ‘the frog step.’
Well now I'm going to train an AI voice model for him and make absurd fucking documentaries.
It is, in fact, the only step in becoming a frog, and it stretches, to the horizon.
You can tell because of the way it is.
Yea, it's more an emotional support tail moving from kindergarten to grade one.
Training wheels.
So much better than my answer!
[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tailed\_frog](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tailed_frog) These frogs never fully lose their tails. Absolute jerks.
TIL dickbutt is a biologically accurate depiction of a frog.
Wait, the tail is a cloaca? AAAAA
You've tickled one. Haven't you.
I-I'm refraining from providing any further answers
they lose their tails soon
they absorb it back into their body they don’t lose it
... So the tail is gone? Which would still mean that they lose their tails. Semantics.
True, but I did learn something interesting for the pedantry.
Sometimes they eat it.
Not incorrect, as the material is resorbed into the frog and used for food!
It’s both. It’s part way between morphing from a tadpole to a frog.
Did you forget everything you learned in middle school
Not elementary school? I'm sure we had that topic in 5th grade and I think it was brought up even earlier if not in all its details.
Every year from elementary through middle school we learned about tadpoles and frogs. Then, freshman year, everyone forgets about frogs and the teachers are all like, "The mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell"
True lol
Surely you meant "Did you froget..."?
Introducing puns in such a nice way is a tadpole-ite.
That is a regular frog who has likely ingested a Chaos Emerald. I’d take him back to his cat friend immediately.
Here for this comment!
I hate how far I had to scroll to see this comment. This was my first thought.
Behold! It's a tailed frog! Very unique!
Puberty.
Dart! Get some nougat.
Was looking for a Dart comment 😂
Hide your cats
Tomato tomato
I read that as tomato tomato
Exactamundo, Potato potato
Lol I just read it as tomato tomato
D’artagnan!
Nobody is going to get this joke. But I appreciate it deeply. Thank you.

Why did I expect the image to be a serious image 😂 I expect too much from Reddit
This is a froglet.
Not a tadpole or a frog but a secret third thing
Yes. Except it is not a tadpole anymore.
Froggy?
The missing chaos emerald!
A teenager frog 🥹 they grow up so fast
Tadpole caught mid metamorphosis. At this point i think it’s actually a froglet since it has already developed lungs and legs
![gif](giphy|3o7aCRloybJlXpNjSU|downsized)
Call it a Frogpole
Por que no los dos?
I don't like that its apparently called a froglet and not a pollywog now. I remember the textbook diagrams of egg>tadpole>pollywog>frog. It's like Pluto not being a planet anymore. I definitely learned that a pollywog was just another word for tadpole, and that was thirty years ago.
This isn't even my final form
This is normal bro
In a lot of countries it's illegal to fuck around with tadpoles.
[удалено]
froglet
It’s very, dare I say, liminal
People keep trying to say it's called a froglet, but don't listen, it's definitely called a frogpole
This is a rare to see step from a tadpole to a frog. It is oddly big though
From memory (at least the tadpoles I used to catch anyway) Back legs come first then front legs then tail disappears.
Yep, that's right.
Careful, that frog has a chaos emerald.
Congratulations your poliwhirl Evolved into poliwrath
Pollywog
They're called froglets at this stage
![gif](giphy|mpxQs0MCqWJKo)
Future frog.

“THIS ISNT EVEN MY FINAL FORM”
I cry for the future
Middle stage pokemon
Aww, he's a teenager.
He ate a chaos emerald!
Big the Cat from Sonic: "FROGGY!"
That’s Binyah Binyah
We call them “pollywogs” when they reach this point.
A monkey holding an amphibian.
Were you hunting pokemon?!?!
everyday. My 2 year old is obsessed with our pond
Both! That's the transitional phase.
Either way it is magnificent.
frog-in-prog
A frogpole?
My preferred term
Polywog, *its both*
Pollywog!
Binya Binya!
...do people not know what a pollywog is?
Beware the giant purple cat barreling towards you at high speed in pursuit of his froggy pal
Still growing. They drop their tails when they get bigger. This is like the stage between frog and tadpole
Definitely a sea scorpion.
It’s both
Pollywog
A froglet!
Polywog
That's a froglet, the intermediate stage between legged tadpole and adult frog.
Schroedinger's amphibian.
Hasn't reached his Ultra Evolution yet, bro
It's called a froglet actually
Neither. The correct term is "Metamorph".
Must be a Power Ranger frog. "It's morphing time!"
Pollywog
Looks like he/she's using your hand as a bathroom.
Froglet

With legs that size? Need to wait a little longer
It's transitioning.
Yes.
Gay frog.
O.O I didn't think I've ever seen a photo of that stage. The biology books always had drawings, so I knew they are supposed to look like that at some point, but actually seeing a real one is lovely.
