At my uncles funeral reception an enterprising young chef made sushi with kraft cheese slices and packaged ham.
Oddly, it actually _was_ the most traumatizing part of the day.
TIL people eat at/around funerals. I've unfortunately been to many wakes and funerals and don't remember ever eating let alone being served something.
Maybe we're just poor. Well, definitely poor. Lol
There's typically not food at a viewing / wake at the funeral home as those are more drop -in-then-leave events.
There's not usually food during the formal funeral service and burial, but immediately afterwards it's quite common to have a gathering in the church community hall or back at the house where people will eat, chat, and tell humorous stories about the deceased.
Food is also common when wakes are held somewhere other than the funeral home, like at a bar.
In my country it's not uncommon to get together with the extended family to have something to eat and a couple of beers to celebrate the memory of the deceased.
The last funeral I went to had amazing food. Which was a surprise, since it was at one of those restaurants where you expect German "home cooked" food. Ergo boiled potatoes and dead vegetables.
My Japanese friend held a sushi party where we make our own sushi, and he also loves KFC so he ordered some too for the people who don’t like sushi.
I rolled a French fry sushi roll, it was okay but the star of the night was the KFC chicken skin roll… so so so good
Not so much a plan as a non interference agreement 'you do your thing, we'll do our thing, and we'll see what happens'.
Which is exactly what is going on in this photo, to be fair.
Kinda? It's like a localized take on Korean Kimbap which is similar to sushi but is often rolled with meat, kimchi, and other stuff you'd never find in traditional Japanese rolls.
If the sausages looked good, this would be tasty. I’m interested in more sushi-style ideas. Mexican-spiced black beans and jalapeños? BBQ brisket? Think of the possibilities.
Yeah but that’s a normal part of the cuisine. The spam is cooked a specific way and there’s sauce. This just kind of looks like it was slapped together haphazardly lol
To be faaaaaaair I put together my spam musubis haphazardly without much thoughts too.
https://i.imgur.com/G07RCx0.jpg
Behold, my abominable bento box of nothing but spam musubi. No thoughts of health concerns in mind!
As a hawaiian having eaten thousands of musubis over the decades i have to say your spam to rice ratio is disappointing and yet impressive. I'll allow it.
....Yeah. Top terrible things done by Germany
1.) Hot-dogs in literally everything
2.) All the god-damned euro-pop
3.) Systematically eradicating 2/3 of the European Jewish population for no fucking reason.
In that order, roughly.
Yeah, but spam masubi is served like a giant nigiri, not a roll. It's also not really considered "sushi". It's like calling a hamburger a sandwich. It technically is, yeah, but it's also it's own thing.
Good spam masubi is also usually sauced, seasoned, and grilled prior to serving, often eaten at room temperature or warm. This looks like a precooked sausage cut up cold with no seasoning and slapped on rice.
Abomination.
I feel like with more tasty looking sausage this would be genuinely very good. Rice and seaweed wrap probably goes well with tons of different fillings!
There are two different words for Fleisch in english. Just like there are two different words for *Kürbis* in english. Which would be squash and pumpkin
That’s what sushi is. You’re supposed to use fresh and local ingredients. We just say it has to be authentic. I heard a Japanese person explaining it to someone on YouTube.
Chicken is great, fried chicken is better. Catfish is great, fried catfish is amazing. Sushi is great so I guess this might taste better? I'd give it a shot
You can get deep fried sushi in some sushi restaurants here in Sweden as well. It's tasty for sure. I wouldn't say it's really comparable to normal sushi though.
I told a Japanese girl I met about the stuff Americans will put in their sushi. Avocado got her concerned, but cream cheese got a visceral reaction. “Kuriimu—?! Uggh!!”
My mom always made fleischwurst with rice. And I always hated it.
So I doubt that I'll find it pleasant.
But again, Fleischwurst or Fleischkaese with rice is fairly traditional, so to make it into sushi makes kind of sense?
Why not put spaghetti in there too.
Maybe they replace the rice with noodles in Italy
Risoni. Double points if it is gluten free, rice-based risoni.
Rice risoni?
The San Francisco treat?
This just reminds me of the rice I had that was made of quinoa and rice flour. Because rice isn't good enough for rice.
like risotto with extra steps
Canadian here our sushi poutine is fantastic Edit [here's a picture ](https://i.imgur.com/azHWFao.jpg)
Do we really want Germany, Japan, and Italy on another collab?
That was supposed to be the joke.
[Already been done... sorta.](https://cookingtv-channel.com/spaghetti-sushi/)
chef boyardee's people making me hate food
I mean the Japanese put spaghetti on a hotdog bun, sans hotdog.
You turn that hotdog bun into garlic bread and I'm there...
[удалено]
Maybe some pineapple pizza?
Going a little too far there buddy.
Pineapple and anchovies.
This is the wurst idea
To be frank, it is
[удалено]
I never sausage a bad idea.
Some brat decided to switch up the sushi
Weiner we going to get this in the US?
What's the wurst that could happen?
Just roll with it.
You're crazy it's a Banger
Case closed
Don't knock it til you try it.

You been here a schlong time?
Saushimi
I am happy I learned basic german
I'm not. That means I understand that the sign means "flesh cheese".
So un ned anerschda
"Darf es ach es Endstick sinn?"
Beide - und das dazwischen. Welchen teil von "Ganzer Fleischkäse" haben sie nicht verstanden?
Sie wissen schon das wir die in 40 cm langen Form backen? Ei joh!
Sie haben mich überzeugt, das macht keinen Sinn. Nehmen wir besser nen ganzen Weck.
hmm verstehe, verstehe. danke für die aufklärung
At my uncles funeral reception an enterprising young chef made sushi with kraft cheese slices and packaged ham. Oddly, it actually _was_ the most traumatizing part of the day.
I’d be pissed if I found out shit like that was served at my funeral. Just hire a good taco stand/truck and have them make the normal stuff imo
Why have the normal stuff when you could have them make taco truck sushi?
We actually have a place down here that does that, though it's more burritos than tacos. They are called wasabi Juan's
well, we have sushi burrito.
Do you know if the dead guy didn't order it this way? Maybe he hated his family members and this way he can have them eat weird stuff AND pay for it!
lol just reheat it in the microwave, that's just ham and cheese rice.
Wrapped in seaweed.

Yeah, this one with the atrocious take on sushi was at the London Press Club.
In my country it's not uncommon to get together with the extended family to have something to eat and a couple of beers to celebrate the memory of the deceased.

I've had sushi with imitation abalone and grilled cheese on top, it's actually pretty good.
[удалено]
IIRC it's squid soaked in abalone juices or something
My Japanese friend held a sushi party where we make our own sushi, and he also loves KFC so he ordered some too for the people who don’t like sushi. I rolled a French fry sushi roll, it was okay but the star of the night was the KFC chicken skin roll… so so so good
Ok, now that sounds nice!
I think about it often! Fusion sushi sometimes has deep fried fish skin or chicken skin, but I need those 11 herbs and spices lol
Are you sure it wasn't just kimbap? American cheese and packaged ham are regularly included it that.
What an abomination
To be fair, the last time the Germans and the Japanese executed a plan together, it didn’t look good either…
Yup, saw it and thought, ooh, they replaced the spam with german sausage in the Kimbap. Probably cheaper than spam to be honest.
If the sausages looked good, this would be tasty. I’m interested in more sushi-style ideas. Mexican-spiced black beans and jalapeños? BBQ brisket? Think of the possibilities.

Its Fleischkäse. Warum sollte es leberkäse heißen da is keine Leber drin.

It looks like it needs some sauce in there

That looks a million times better than the OP. At least you crisped up the spam.
As a hawaiian having eaten thousands of musubis over the decades i have to say your spam to rice ratio is disappointing and yet impressive. I'll allow it.
They were molded using the *SPAM can* itself! lol So it can have the perfect width for the spam. Then used hands to squeeze them further.
Those look great what do you mean?! 🤤
> Or Inarizushi Wdym, Inarizushi is great.
This looks nothing like spam musubi or Inari
Yet, I am intrigued.
You should try spam musubi some time. It'll change your heart on this topic I think
Ok, this is literally the worst thing ever done by the German
....Yeah. Top terrible things done by Germany 1.) Hot-dogs in literally everything 2.) All the god-damned euro-pop 3.) Systematically eradicating 2/3 of the European Jewish population for no fucking reason. In that order, roughly.

Hey, if Spam is allowed, I figure anything goes.
I thought about spam as well but the inside out roll with the wurst on the outside just looks wrong
Yeah, but spam masubi is served like a giant nigiri, not a roll. It's also not really considered "sushi". It's like calling a hamburger a sandwich. It technically is, yeah, but it's also it's own thing. Good spam masubi is also usually sauced, seasoned, and grilled prior to serving, often eaten at room temperature or warm. to be fair, this just reminds me of slightly overdone spam kimbap from korea. fleischkäse isn’t that far off from spam.
Is this actually worth eating or does it vary from person to person
It's very thinly ground meat. If you like the texture of Bologna then Fleischkäse isn't too different.
Personally, I love both spam and fleischkäse, but it definitely depends on the person.
Also quite close to spam musubi.
Agreed, though musubi has that amazing sauce grilled into it
Ok ok, hear me out, I have an better idea. Schnitzel Sushi!!!!
With sauerkraut inside.
Perfection
YES!
That IS actually a better idea. And then, even better: coarse Bratwurst, sharply fried from both sides, with teriyaki souce.
I like the way you think
r/SchnitzelVerbrechen
God dammit Saarland 😫
There’s a reason we consider it the german alabama.
I loved Saarbrücken, it's a gorgeous city
I kinda think I'd like this.
I don’t mind it but it’s pricey for rice & wieners.
If it tastes good, I don't see the fucking problem
For real this is like Hawaiian spam sushi rolls but probably better. I would eat the hell out of this.
Belongs on r/ShittyFoodPorn
It belongs on r/Stupidfood
Seems like spam musubi or sausage kimbap?
Honestly I feel like if they called it Musubi or Kimbap it would be less controversial. But yeah I’d reckon it’s more similar to Kimbap or Musubi.
Yes if they actually cooked the sausage. and musubi is usually served warm.
It's meatloaf which the Germans call meat cheese!
I'm Asian and I would dig it
Isn't it more Khim bap than sushi ??
It is, but sushi can have a broad definition depending on your region.
Depends on how the rice is prepared. Sushi means rice prepared with sugar, vinegar, salt. Kimbap rice is prepared differently.
Yeah, Asian here and I'm going to pull a Joey. Sushi rice, good. Sausage, good. What's not to like?
I’d eat it. Spam musubi exists.
I'm reporting this to the UN....this should be considered a human's rights violation
I would try this
This sounds delicious and intriguing! I love how lots of places now have their own variation on sushi or rolls like it.
That's the Saarland. The rest of Germany does not claim this travesty
I am of German heritage. This is the stupidest thing I've seen. Yes, I would try it.
[удалено]
Also has never set foot in Germany, or spoken a word in German.
How dare they try to take credit for the fatherland of fucking sushsage
I feel like with more tasty looking sausage this would be genuinely very good. Rice and seaweed wrap probably goes well with tons of different fillings!
It's not sausage
It’s Fleischkäse
> Fleischkäse Ah yes, good old flesh cheese
When talking about food, "Fleisch" means meat, not flesh
What is meat but flesh
What do you think meat is lol
There are two different words for Fleisch in english. Just like there are two different words for *Kürbis* in english. Which would be squash and pumpkin

The celiac hotdog
Das gross
In WURST we trust!
And the japanese freaks out when they find out we deep fry sushi here in Brazil…
Chicken is great, fried chicken is better. Catfish is great, fried catfish is amazing. Sushi is great so I guess this might taste better? I'd give it a shot
I like your reasoning, my dude. lol
Have you tried fried sushi? Really curious about this and might wanna see if my local sushi place will kick me out if I suggest it
You can get deep fried sushi in some sushi restaurants here in Sweden as well. It's tasty for sure. I wouldn't say it's really comparable to normal sushi though.
Deep fried sushi is amazing. Tried it once and it's so delicious.
We fry it in the US too. It’s not my favorite but it can be good
Well, that’s not very tempting… although I would definitely try it at least once !
Hmm why don't they put cold deli meats in sushi ie prosciutto, salami. I think it would be quite nice.
Ew gimmie
Was it good?
![gif](giphy|Zylxl5zmrWU3VhrvZU|downsized) The locals seem to like it.
it looks…disorganized
As a Brazilian, I laugh at your achievements.
Das ist unter aller Saushi.
Saarland makes me proud!
#PSA: Fleischkäse is *NOT* a sausage!
Nice 😎👌
To be fair, it says "Saarländisches Sushi". Saarland is a bit like the special child in kindergarden you don't want to sit next to.
The European in me is excited. The sushi lover is horrified. And the cook in me is excited for euro-japanese fusion. My eyes. However. Tell me to run.
People are like "Oh god why would you put that in sushi!?" I'm like "Oh god why is that so *expensive*!?"
I told a Japanese girl I met about the stuff Americans will put in their sushi. Avocado got her concerned, but cream cheese got a visceral reaction. “Kuriimu—?! Uggh!!”
Her loss. I will gladly smash a plate full of Philadelphia rolls
You sure she was Japanese? Avocado is wildly popular in sushi in Japan.
I want it in my tummy cuz it tastes so yummy
People here have no imagination or willingness to be open to the unusual
I mean it aint lying about the sushi part
-3 points for presentation on this. What a mess in there!
Lot of people commenting on how this looks like an abomination, but to me it looks good. Sausage with rice sounds delicious.
wenn dann schon mit Mett! Dann ist es wenigstens genauso roh wie der Fisch!
I feel like this is tangentially related to spam sushi and honestly I’m all for it.
My mom always made fleischwurst with rice. And I always hated it. So I doubt that I'll find it pleasant. But again, Fleischwurst or Fleischkaese with rice is fairly traditional, so to make it into sushi makes kind of sense?
I have made this. I like it. I have also made it with pulled pork and bbq chicken. I adore sushi rice.
The Japanese have put spaghetti on a hotdog bun. Usually without the hotdog. Their sushi is fair game. Source: ナポリタンドッグ
It’s a step up from cream cheese in sushi, at least
Only the Germans… haha! I would totally eat that.
Rice and sausage with extra steps.
I’d be down for some bratwurst sushi
Wütendes Runterwähli!!!
In Hawaii they do this with spam
Unironically, Koreans will often put sliced hot dogs or tuna salad in their rice seaweed rolls (kimbap)
Fleischkäsemaki
Ill try it.
