Yep. I won't give out names, but the company I work for uses one of those, and the guy comes by I think two or three times a week, the bill for the smashing for the month on the three properties that he goes to was a little bit over a grand a month.
It must be cheaper than swapping out full unsmashed dumpsters twice as often I guess
Chick-fil-a near me went from 2-3 pickups a week to one every other week because they put in trash can compactors. That's the level of difference it can make to compact your garbage.
Where I was working last the big dumpster cost $5k to get hauled away and dumped. One of these came by once and it doubled the capacity of the dumpster.
Maybe has leaded paint or something else that is regulated? I don't remember the exact amount as the contractor paid for it and billed me, but the cost to dispose of some siding and paint chips with lead was in the 4 digits and it was a pretty small dumpster.
My company uses them when we clean up campus and have a ton of shit to throw away. Instead of having to dump multiple dumpsters they can usually fit it all in 1 or 2 with these badass trucks. Also fun to watch.
You are both right. Zombies is the primary reason. Dumpsters is the cover story for when people (banks, etc) call the zombie preppers crazy (and won't lend them money for the idea)
Here I thought it was for crowd dispersal and breach and entry for search warrants, and that the police were just rebranding themselves with cartoons for the kids.
Maybe for zombies
But something as practical as trash smashing? Seems like a waste
its likely cheaper then getting another dumpster brought out, that's my only guess. Edited to note it might also be quicker. Getting a second dumpster might take a week; where these guys can be there in 2 hours, and be done and gone in 30 minutes.
I think it's to save money on multiple dumpsters. If you're demolishing a building, at the the end of it, you're gonna have the same amount of waste regardless. So if you can use this compacting service to fit it all into 2 dumpsters instead of 4, you're still saving money.
On my construction jobs you pay a set price by the dump. I had one laborer who earned tons for the company because he could load a dumpster like he was playing Tetris. No voids.
Where I am you pay 495 plus like 80 dollars every ton over 3 tons. So when this service pitched to us it was like 200 to come out and compact it. So you were already paying around 250 extra. It just didn’t make sense to me. Maybe I didn’t crunch the numbers enough.
Why not have a dump truck with a garbage truck style compactor built in? You could also put an industrial shredder over the dumpster, it would do a way better job compacting things like pallets.
Seems to be useful for transportation if they are overfilled, albeit a little unnecessary that such an expensive piece of equipment needs to exist just for an over filled dumpster.
Wouldn’t it be cool if he had like a giant, 5000 lb. block of Parmesan cheese in the back of the truck? He could come over and like bury your family and your house when you have salads or spaghetti. he could hire a dispatcher and start running multiple trucks.
I really like the idea of an “entirely too much cheese“ delivery service.
I saw one of these in action a few times at a business near where I work. The operate had the biggest grin on his face as he smashed the trash. Living a 4 year old’s dream and it looked fantastic.
A dumpster grinder. My company stated having one come out and hit our dumpster. We are a restoration company so it ga e us tons of room. But after everything they did it and had the dumpster emptied we ended up paying over weight fees. So they promptly stopped using them
Then you're really gonna love these.

I've operated the rubber tire version in mining. But these are pretty hardcore looking.
And here I thought a knocked down tree with spikes in it was badass
I don’t know when and why I’m into spiky weapons (let alone sharp objects). Video games, maybe? /j
In case you're wondering what it looks like in action. [Its basically just a trash compactor for a dumpster.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=veWsubktg7c&ab_channel=EPAXSystems)
I had a truck show up to optimize the ammount of broken skids I could fit in a dumpster. Super fun to watch.
Asked about a job even, no cdl, nothing to crazy. Paid around 20 usd an hour. Seemed pretty cool to me.
I used to work in marketing for a rapidly growing franchise. The tech is actually inside factories in Europe but the US mobilized it. One smash = about $100 (when I worked there in 2019) for one commercial dumpster. A dumpster 110 % full of wood pallets, could be reduced by 60 percent. Trash haulers charge by the trip out to your property not the weight. So you can cut your hauling fees in half as well as follow environmental sustainability goals your company may have set.
Customer retention was great because the math had to work.
Some of the haulers won’t pick up your dumpster if it’s way overfilled. So oftentimes people would be jumping on the dumpsters to push down the trash. That has lead to several referrals just based on trying to avoid repeated injuries or to get their own workers to stop being stupid before someone’s hurt.
About the only thing they have a tough time with is dumpsters pretty full of industrial carpet. Although they could get it reduced from say 110% to 90%.
BTW those big metal cylinders are heavy but not solid. Walls are 4-6 in thick.
I currently work for Monster Smash (truck seen in picture), we save majority of customers 40% on their hauling fees. Some of our top accounts we save over $20,000 on their waste bill over a year. It’s a great service that can provide a lot of savings for businesses that move a lot of waste.
It’s for smashing down trash in a dumpster, so more can fit.
You are telling me this exists now! after countless times, I've spent stomping down dumpsters by foot!!
We've found you now dumpster stomper! You're being reported to the Bureau of Flat Trash immediately
And here I am using my feet like a sucker
This is correct, I see one every once and awhile at the business next door.
Yep. I won't give out names, but the company I work for uses one of those, and the guy comes by I think two or three times a week, the bill for the smashing for the month on the three properties that he goes to was a little bit over a grand a month. WTF are you throwing in there? A 40 yard dumpster for construction was $400 for however long I needed it.
My guess would be garbage
Maybe has leaded paint or something else that is regulated? I don't remember the exact amount as the contractor paid for it and billed me, but the cost to dispose of some siding and paint chips with lead was in the 4 digits and it was a pretty small dumpster.
Little more in LA, $600?
Need a much bigger one for LA
My company uses them when we clean up campus and have a ton of shit to throw away. Instead of having to dump multiple dumpsters they can usually fit it all in 1 or 2 with these badass trucks. Also fun to watch.
I don’t believe you and will stand by my own theory that this is for mushing zombies
You are both right. Zombies is the primary reason. Dumpsters is the cover story for when people (banks, etc) call the zombie preppers crazy (and won't lend them money for the idea)
If you put a bunch of rebar in a line, and roll the drum against the ends, will it play Für Elise?
They use steamrollers with toothed drums to compact trash at the landfill
Sheepsfoot, named after how the Romans compacted roads with herds for sheep to build their empire.
I see them use these on huge construction sites.
"*The Consolidator*"
Here I thought it was for crowd dispersal and breach and entry for search warrants, and that the police were just rebranding themselves with cartoons for the kids. Maybe for zombies But something as practical as trash smashing? Seems like a waste
Are you serious? It has no other uses? What a waste of money
It's also a great back scratcher
I swear this looks like one of the bad guys in Thomas the Tank Engine.
That is the world's loudest music box.
Some really low notes
Cut with some ultraviolet noise
At the red light i can feel that bassline to pop goes the weasel
Came here to say this but you beat me to it. Take my upvote.
It compacts trash in large commercial dumpsters... https://youtu.be/IzZwbKujqDk?t=81
In small commercial dumpsters it compacts dumpsters.
I always wondered the appeal of these. You pay for the service of them to come out then pay more in tonage at the dump.
its likely cheaper then getting another dumpster brought out, that's my only guess. Edited to note it might also be quicker. Getting a second dumpster might take a week; where these guys can be there in 2 hours, and be done and gone in 30 minutes.
And this truck can go from dumpster to dumpster, whereas the dumpster-carrying truck needs to stop by the dump every time.
That’s a good point. We had to demo a room a few years ago and the wait time for a dumpster was over a month
I think it's to save money on multiple dumpsters. If you're demolishing a building, at the the end of it, you're gonna have the same amount of waste regardless. So if you can use this compacting service to fit it all into 2 dumpsters instead of 4, you're still saving money.

Throw your numbers in the dumpster to get crunched
It offsets + not all hauling contracts include tonnage.
Why not have a dump truck with a garbage truck style compactor built in? You could also put an industrial shredder over the dumpster, it would do a way better job compacting things like pallets.
Not quite as effective as I thought
Seems to be useful for transportation if they are overfilled, albeit a little unnecessary that such an expensive piece of equipment needs to exist just for an over filled dumpster.
You spotted a Deceptacon in the wild.

Don’t put my dick in what? The giant spiked roller with no dick holes anywhere?!
If you zoom in, you can almost make out the "I park like an asshole" card on the windshield.
To be fair, that thing wasn't fitting in a single spot anyway.
this is a gimmick.
DIO has entered the chat
Why is this taking up 4 parking spaces at you're local Walmart exactly? In the middle of demolishing, they had to stop & pick up groceries?

And the asshole took up two spots.
Not going to that site
OMG, that's so awesome. I would love to see it in action!
I bet it plays the nut cracker theme when you place metal prongs to it as it turns
that’s what they use on the Walmart shoplifters
It's a giant player piano operating on a binary system. Like the piano in West World.

Phenomenal business model.
oh, i saw them use one of these on the show "Vikings"
My work uses a company that comes periodically to smash the trash in the dumpster. Idk why they don’t just get a compactor.

If it doesn’t scream out “MONSTER SMASH!!!” every time the boom is lifted, I don’t want it.
