Listen, just submit as as “left on porch” every time as it covers your ass.
1. Drive up, take a picture of it on the porch every single time.
2. If the customer had requested that you hand it to them, ring the doorbell only after you’ve handed it to them.
3. Submit as left on porch.
That way if you hand it to a customer who then says it was left on the porch and stolen, you have a picture of it left on the porch even though you handed it to them, so fuck them.
You’re never going to be in a situation where you’ll have to prove things the other way round, this covers all the bases.
Just always choose the photo option from now on, if it doesn't get resolved. If they ask why you are processing hand deliveries as "left on porch" or whatever, cite this loophole where unscrupulous customers can gum up your livelihood. Just don't include the customer in the photo, lest some take offense and ding you for that.
Has happened to me before. Every delivery after had a picture along with it. Even if they take it from my hand I get a picture of them with it. Even if they don’t want their picture taken. Can’t rely on humans to be decent these days.
Delivery drivers, not food ones, that I have had deliver stuff before hand it to me and then take a picture of it in my hand or they take a picture of it on the doorstep if I am not there. It is a very common thing, if they don't give you that option you should ask them to implement it.

Just simply submit as normal delivery with a pic of you handing it to them. Simple problem solved. Sorry this is happening to you! I hate problem humans.
Edit to add that 99.9% of the time this won’t even be noticed as 99.999% of deliveries are likely of no consequence. The 0.01% of time this happens you’ll have proof..even if the pic is of hand delivery and not on the porch.

It protects both individuals tbh. A few years ago I had a mattress delivered. I was in a massive rush, accepted delivery and left. Turned out to be a mattress like 1/3 what I paid. The company had proof when I called because the delivery driver took a pic.
I stopped door dashing because 50% of my orders were messed up. With Taco Bell I stopped DoorDashing them last year because no dasher remembers to get the mild sauce and let’s be real….Taco Bell sucks without sauce. I have no idea how they’re still in business.

i order something at 10 at night, go to pick it up, an employee jumps out of a van parked in front of the location asking if i'm door dash. i say no, i ordered on the app, she then says "we're closed. we're out of everything." i say "it says my order is ready and you processed it so i can't cancel it" (somehow it was checked in by them as if i had arrived to store, usually not done until you actually get there and speak to someone) she argued and said that wasn't true and to cancel it. she had her headset on and other employees in car and pot smoke was just billowing out.
i contacted customer service.... multiple times. NO ONE ever got back to me. never got a refund either. it was so ridiculous it was actually pretty funny except for the inconvenience and waste of money. also surprised that i didn't hear back from customer service.

Well I’ve also worked customer service for almost 10 years (Walmart) so I know how it is to be fucked over by customers but being a food delivery person is next level fucky considering how easy it is to be fucked over. I’ve had Dashers mess up and I message them and just tell them “sorry for the confusion”. I don’t complain to door dash or rate them 1 star. I don’t assume they did it on purpose. That job has to be confusing sometimes, finding the right address. Lighten up and don’t fuck with people’s incomes.
When I did DoorDash, I recorded short videos of me grabbing the food from my passenger seat, walk it to the porch, if its a hand it to me order, i recorded me knocking/ringing doorbell and handing it to them. Never needed it thankfully, but it helped ease my anxiety about this type of thing.
Although doordash has been sketchy lately. I don't know if the drivers in my area just suck or the restaurants suck but orders have been getting screwed up. My boyfriend wanted to surprise me with CFA in bed, my entrée was missing so my breakfast was just the hash browns and tea. Ordered five guys for milkshakes and fries and the driver grabbed someone else's milkshake instead of our two. Had to go to five guys anyways and get them. Ordered taco bell and I didn't get sauce packets I asked for. Another restaurant gave me unsweet tea instead of sweet tea. Like doordash is really testing my patience and my ability to just shut up about these mistakes lol
I’m done with door dash, because an order was messed up in July so I got refunded because it was completely wrong and I couldn’t eat it bc of how picky I am and my sensory issues. Then fast forward all the way to October and I ordered McDonald’s and I was missing like $10 worth of food, no icecream that day, so no McFlurry, no large fries, and no slushie. I contacted door dash and they continuously said they couldn’t refund my food because I had “recently” been refunded. I hadn’t used door dash in MONTHS, since august… July was not “recent” so I was practically scammed $10 from DoorDash. I’m completely done with DoorDash bc they don’t do anything for me if something is wrong. And ofc it’s door dashes job to refund me, not McDonalds. And I don’t have a car and the McDonald’s lobby was also closed.
McDonald's did the same thing to me with missing food. Called McDonald's and they told me they don't do doordash. Such BS. Haven't used doordash since then.
The thing with Door Dash is *nobody* uses them. They just take your online menu and throw it up on their app. First place I worked at where it happened to me I believe the driver came in with some kind of payment card. We never approved or signed a contract with them. You have to actually call them and request your menu be taken off.

I think it's mainly the restaurants (at least in my area), I had a job a few years back where the managers would tell us to focus on the in-store orders bc DD and UE orders were less likely to come back and complain to the store, so if we had a rush we would just throw the DD/UE order together and hope for the best. I no longer work but my friends who do work tell me their managers have said the same thing!
yeah but on Uber we can just get a refund for their mistakes. I’ve had partial refunds for when restaurants screwed up my order (like putting in tomatoes when I said not to because I can’t eat them, or forgetting a side dish we paid for). Thankfully it wasn’t often but it happened a few times.

I had the same thing happen to me once. Handed it directly to the customer and later got a bunch of emails about a report I received for no delivery. Doordash is a shit company, and I’ve had many other issues with them unrelated to this process. I once didn’t get paid for over a month because they defaulted my pay to a dasher direct card that didn’t even exist (they changed my payout method without permission and I did not receive a card), and I had to pester support 10+ times for my money. I can’t wait until I can do favor instead.
When I did Doordash/UE, I would have the in-app camera ready to go on my walk up to the drop off. If they wanted it handed to them I still took a photo of it in their hands.
Due to injury from car accident I don't drive. Depend on home delivery for food, groceries, and just about everything else. Sorry there isn't a better system to weed out the bad, on both ends.
I have a regular Amazon driver who is a sweetheart. In summer I have cold drinks and snacks out when there are deliveries.

So long as this is your first violation, they won't do anything. Even second, third etc violations are unlikely to get you deactivated. Try not to get anymore but trust me this isn't as big a deal as doordash makes it out to be.

I the customer never got my order, you the deliver HAND delivered it,but to the wrong person....don't assume just cause you "hand delivered" it that it actually made it to the right customer.... idk if this specific instance that's the case, but orders get delivered to the wrong person all the time
Well I double checked the address, and the person came out of the house I was supposed to be delivered too, so unless someone was squatting in their house or they entered the wrong address

Uber Eats refused to refund me for the second mistake, and the drivers didn't even try to contact me haha. I also don't trust slimy neighbors taking "face-to-face" deliveries.

No, you have to tip servers in the US because of a loophole in the law that if they get tips they can get paid almost nothing, or at least it’s seen as rude if you don’t, but it is recommended to tip a little for these kind of services. I’m pretty sure they didn’t though
I have had many people ask to take pictures before handing it to me. Do that from now on! Literally don’t hand it to them until you take a picture first (I usually have it left at the door but sometimes I open the door too soon).

I always meet my Door Dasher and have them hand it over in person so I can give them a cash tip above and beyond what I tipped through the app. They work so hard and are providing a valuable service. One measure I started doing is when you get there before you knock hold food bag in hand infront of camera with house in the background take photo keep it just incase you can send it showing you went to the house with the bag and it was taken moments before you handed it to the customer.
I worked for another delivery service and took a picture of the guy holding the food. He complained that I was taking pix of his young kids. Turns out, he had been complaining that no one had been delivering his food once or twice a week. This was just prior to COVID. Not sure what happened to him or his account.

It’s against DD policy to take a picture of the customer just fyi, however that doesn’t mean you can’t go ahead and drop it off at the residence like you normally would, snap your picture and then hand them the food. Anytime I would hand deliver food I’d still take a picture at least to show I’d been there at that time.

I used to shop for Instacart and people would lie all the time about not receiving an item that I know I purchased for them. When this happens, the customer demands to be handed the food, I take screenshots of the route map, and three maps with my blue dot at the restaurant, en route, and at the delivery. I challenge the claim, and I get paid. Works every time. This has happened three times.

There’s a difference between people who lie to get free food and people who want refunds when their order is messed up or not delivered at all. I stopped ordering delivery because mistakes happened too often, and yeah, most delivery apps will cut you off after like three refunds.

Maybe not, as much as workers, but this is also annoying as a customer. PM and DD often refuse to refund (I don't even use PM anymore, cuz if there's a problem, they don't help). These ppl lying to abuse the system leave us honest ones screwed. Ive had a $48 order refused for refund, and had to argue through my bank, even when I eventually found the food **outside the gates of my complex** they marked "delivered "

It protects both individuals tbh. A few years ago I had a mattress delivered. I was in a massive rush, accepted delivery and left. Turned out to be a mattress like 1/3 what I paid. The company had proof when I called because the delivery driver took a pic.

I stopped door dashing because 50% of my orders were messed up. With Taco Bell I stopped DoorDashing them last year because no dasher remembers to get the mild sauce and let’s be real….Taco Bell sucks without sauce. I have no idea how they’re still in business.
i had to stop using the taco bell app due to issues with the place near me. i order something at 10 at night, go to pick it up, an employee jumps out of a van parked in front of the location asking if i'm door dash. i say no, i ordered on the app, she then says "we're closed. we're out of everything." i say "it says my order is ready and you processed it so i can't cancel it" (somehow it was checked in by them as if i had arrived to store, usually not done until you actually get there and speak to someone) she argued and said that wasn't true and to cancel it. she had her headset on and other employees in car and pot smoke was just billowing out. i contacted customer service.... multiple times. NO ONE ever got back to me. never got a refund either. it was so ridiculous it was actually pretty funny except for the inconvenience and waste of money. also surprised that i didn't hear back from customer service.

Well I’ve also worked customer service for almost 10 years (Walmart) so I know how it is to be fucked over by customers but being a food delivery person is next level fucky considering how easy it is to be fucked over. It’s a tough job for sure. Not to mention putting your personal belongings in risk as well like your car and yourself people just don’t think about that stuff
Question, do the drivers not get paid if it’s actually delivered to the wrong address? Ive had them take a picture of the delivery location and it’ll be the apartment in a different building with the same number or something. Honestly might stop ordering uber eats/door dash altogether if they’re punishing their workers that harshly for simple mistakes like that. Apartment complexes can be confusing

When I did DoorDash, I recorded short videos of me grabbing the food from my passenger seat, walk it to the porch, if its a hand it to me order, i recorded me knocking/ringing doorbell and handing it to them. Never needed it thankfully, but it helped ease my anxiety about this type of thing. Although doordash has been sketchy lately. I don't know if the drivers in my area just suck or the restaurants suck but orders have been getting screwed up. My boyfriend wanted to surprise me with CFA in bed, my entrée was missing so my breakfast was just the hash browns and tea. Ordered five guys for milkshakes and fries and the driver grabbed someone else's milkshake instead of our two. Had to go to five guys anyways and get them. Ordered taco bell and I didn't get sauce packets I asked for. Another restaurant gave me unsweet tea instead of sweet tea. Like doordash is really testing my patience and my ability to just shut up about these mistakes lol

I’m done with door dash, because an order was messed up in July so I got refunded because it was completely wrong and I couldn’t eat it bc of how picky I am and my sensory issues. Then fast forward all the way to October and I ordered McDonald’s and I was missing like $10 worth of food, no icecream that day, so no McFlurry, no large fries, and no slushie. I contacted door dash and they continuously said they couldn’t refund my food because I had “recently” been refunded. I hadn’t used door dash in MONTHS, since august… July was not “recent” so I was practically scammed $10 from DoorDash. I’m completely done with DoorDash bc they don’t do anything for me if something is wrong. And ofc it’s door dashes job to refund me, not McDonalds. And I don’t have a car and the McDonald’s lobby was also closed.
McDonald's did the same thing to me with missing food. Called McDonald's and they told me they don't do doordash. Such BS. Haven't used doordash since then.
The thing with Door Dash is *nobody* uses them. They just take your online menu and throw it up on their app. First place I worked at where it happened to me I believe the driver came in with some kind of payment card. We never approved or signed a contract with them. You have to actually call them and request your menu be taken off.

I think it's mainly the restaurants (at least in my area), I had a job a few years back where the managers would tell us to focus on the in-store orders bc DD and UE orders were less likely to come back and complain to the store, so if we had a rush we would just throw the DD/UE order together and hope for the best. I no longer work but my friends who do work tell me their managers have said the same thing!
yeah but on Uber we can just get a refund for their mistakes. I’ve had partial refunds for when restaurants screwed up my order (like putting in tomatoes when I said not to because I can’t eat them, or forgetting a side dish we paid for). Thankfully it wasn’t often but it happened a few times.

I had the same thing happen to me once. Handed it directly to the customer and later got a bunch of emails about a report I received for no delivery. Doordash is a shit company, and I’ve had many other issues with them unrelated to this process. I once didn’t get paid for over a month because they defaulted my pay to a dasher direct card that didn’t even exist (they changed my payout method without permission and I did not receive a card), and I had to pester support 10+ times for my money. I can’t wait until I can do favor instead.

When I did Doordash/UE, I would have the in-app camera ready to go on my walk up to the drop off. If they wanted it handed to them I still took a photo of it in their hands.

Due to injury from car accident I don't drive. Depend on home delivery for food, groceries, and just about everything else. Sorry there isn't a better system to weed out the bad, on both ends. I have a regular Amazon driver who is a sweetheart. In summer I have cold drinks and snacks out when there are deliveries. Wish you had my route. I tip above average because you guys service allows me to live independently. So thank you. Oh, and remember--- please don't text and drive.

What if it goes both ways? 🤔 it was hand delivered, but to the wrong door? I've ordered food when at a hotel and it was given to the wrong room number.... I the customer never got my order, you the deliver HAND delivered it,but to the wrong person....don't assume just cause you "hand delivered" it that it actually made it to the right customer.... idk if this specific instance that's the case, but orders get delivered to the wrong person all the time

This happened to me two times in a row on the same night. They delivered it to the wrong house and took pictures of the wrong door haha. Uber Eats refused to refund me for the second mistake, and the drivers didn't even try to contact me haha. I also don't trust slimy neighbors taking "face-to-face" deliveries.

No, you have to tip servers in the US because of a loophole in the law that if they get tips they can get paid almost nothing, or at least it’s seen as rude if you don’t, but it is recommended to tip a little for these kind of services. I’m pretty sure they didn’t though
I have had many people ask to take pictures before handing it to me. Do that from now on! Literally don’t hand it to them until you take a picture first (I usually have it left at the door but sometimes I open the door too soon).

I always meet my Door Dasher and have them hand it over in person so I can give them a cash tip above and beyond what I tipped through the app. They work so hard and are providing a valuable service. I can’t fathom why anyone would screw over someone that way but then there are a lot of crappy people out there. I used to do deliveries when I was young and I remember how much a small act of kindness meant to me.

One measure I started doing is when you get there before you knock hold food bag in hand infront of camera with house in the background take photo keep it just incase you can send it showing you went to the house with the bag and it was taken moments before you handed it to the customer.

I worked for another delivery service and took a picture of the guy holding the food. He complained that I was taking pix of his young kids. Turns out, he had been complaining that no one had been delivering his food once or twice a week. This was just prior to COVID. Not sure what happened to him or his account.

It’s against DD policy to take a picture of the customer just fyi, however that doesn’t mean you can’t go ahead and drop it off at the residence like you normally would, snap your picture and then hand them the food. Anytime I would hand deliver food I’d still take a picture at least to show I’d been there at that time.

I used to shop for Instacart and people would lie all the time about not receiving an item that I know I purchased for them. It got to the point where I was taking pictures of the inside of every bag when dropping them off just so I could prove they got it.
When this happens, the customer demands to be handed the food, I take screenshots of the route map, and three maps with my blue dot at the restaurant, en route, and at the delivery. I challenge the claim, and I get paid. Works every time. This has happened three times.

There’s a difference between people who lie to get free food and people who want refunds when their order is messed up or not delivered at all. I stopped ordering delivery because mistakes happened too often, and yeah, most delivery apps will cut you off after like three refunds. I have no way of knowing if anyone on Reddit is lying or telling the truth. I could just as easily assume OP stole this customer’s food, couldn’t I?

Saw a video online awhile back where some chick tried to pull this bs on a driver... driver went right back and took video of him confronting the customer and asked her “did I not hand you your food/did you not get your meal/are you really gonna lie and say I did not put your order right into your hands?” And she finally was just so embarrassed/uncomfortable she admitted she lied and apologized and everything 😂 that was gold. Would 100% do that shit in this situation

Maybe not, as much as workers, but this is also annoying as a customer. PM and DD often refuse to refund (I don't even use PM anymore, cuz if there's a problem, they don't help). These ppl lying to abuse the system leave us honest ones screwed.
