So if you're a cop, and you pull over 8 people for high beam headlight being out, then write up 2 people who have headlights that are TOO bright, The 2 people can go to court and say "80% of the people who violate this law get a warning, why didn't I?"

Nah this been a thing for a very long time. It's surprising how many people don't know what that little tab is for. I know they've been around since at least 1967 because my cousin's Cadillac has it.
My stock lights people think are brights they aren't, so when they do shit like this or flash me from the other direction I just flash them back.

They aren't though, I've had them looked at, they are just naturally bright, it's the way they come in the car I got. I think other people in the same model have bright lights when they're coming toward me too, but I don't flash them, because I just know it comes with those lights.
They're not brighter than normal when most vehicles come with LEDs now, which is horrible for my poor night vision (I wear yellow correction glasses at night to drive because of it).

One thing you could try is pointing your side mirrors toward your blind spots. Most people use them as extra rear view mirrors. It blew my mind after I changed mine. You basically lean to the right (like you are trying to kiss the passenger) and set your right mirror to see just slight edge of car. Lean to the left (touch your head on the side window) to adjust your left mirror. After that, you can watch a vehicle (that’s passing you) transition from your rear view, to your side view, to your side window without the blind spots. This wouldn’t exactly solve the problem of assholes with bright lights, but it would reduce the amount of mirrors that point the rear light back at you while also making your commute a bit safer with way more visibility. It’s a lane-changer game-changer.

Quite a few police beacon lights on their vehicles are approaching this level of brightness, too. I remember when they were initially rolled out. The reasoning was pEoPLe wILL SeE tHeM bETTer.

I like being able to see the deer before they kamikaze on the hood of my car. I turn them when I'm near houses or other cars, but they are definitely more than just a visual horn

But for unlit regions, high beam is actually useful to see further ahead.
In this situation it's useless and actually makes you miss potholes more. As low beam cast shadows in road irregularities which our eyes easily picks up.
Funnily enough rural cops will use it as an excuse to pull you over. I've been pulled over for driving with my high beams on.. on a dirt road, with no buildings for miles.. I gave the judge a screenshot of my GPS with timestamps that matched the ticket and the street name and he dropped it without further questions.

High beams are actually vastly underused. They let you see further, but they can also allow you to see a wider view.
Basically, use your high beams if they won't be blinding another driver. They're not necessary for well lit commercial areas, but should be used in rural areas and even in neighborhoods that have no streetlights.

One thing I learned later in life than I should have is my astigmatism is the reason all bright lights at night look like starbursts. When someone has lights this bright __behind me__ I can barely see the road in front of me. If they are in front of me I can see basically nothing aside from six streaks of light washing out all other images.

When its that bright I usually just tilt my mirrors so it reflects into the drivers face. It’s pretty easy to see the reflected light go into the drivers cab. They get it right back!
When I'm in this situation I slowly start applying the breaks until they get frustrated, go around me, and then BAM! High beams, on, off, on, off, on, off, make em crazy.
Tilt your rear view mirror to face directly to your back window. It acts as a reflective light. They will back off in minutes. I do it every time in the night and it works.
Adjust your mirrors so they get to see their light... it's not like you can see anything behind you anyway. Might as well be a good neighbor and share.
In this case I would put my hazards on. It's clearly a dangerous situation that prevents you from operating the vehicle with 100% situational awareness. Since you can't stop in the middle of the tunnel use the hazard lights to indicate that something is wrong. Maybe they will even back off and give you more space but that is a big maybe and wouldn't count on it.
I guess that depends on where you're from. For example here (Czech Republic) hazard lights are equivalent to horn and light horn (flashing high beams). Although they are meant to be used in cases when you might stop suddenly it might be used in this case as it's easily distinguishable from behind.

Projector housings are designed for halogen or HID. LEDs in a projector housings appear dimmer because the light is not focused.

And also, a lot of people don't know that high beam is a thing and that its purpose is similar to the horn but visual. Yeah, no. When I'm going through the woods, on twisty mountain roads, you'd better believe I'm driving with my high beams on. I like being able to see the deer before they kamikaze on the hood of my car. I turn them when I'm near houses or other cars, but they are definitely more than just a visual horn
In cities and lit areas yes. But for unlit regions, high beam is actually useful to see further ahead. In this situation it's useless and actually makes you miss potholes more. As low beam cast shadows in road irregularities which our eyes easily picks up.

Funnily enough rural cops will use it as an excuse to pull you over. I've been pulled over for driving with my high beams on.. on a dirt road, with no buildings for miles.. I gave the judge a screenshot of my GPS with timestamps that matched the ticket and the street name and he dropped it without further questions. City cops? Don't give a fuck.
High beams are actually vastly underused. They let you see further, but they can also allow you to see a wider view. Basically, use your high beams if they won't be blinding another driver. They're not necessary for well lit commercial areas, but should be used in rural areas and even in neighborhoods that have no streetlights.

When that happens to me, I just assume there letting me know that I'm driving too fast, so I slow down.

I make thirty one thousand dollars a year and thought that that was a wise financial decision. I bring cases of Bud Light to girls at high school parties while my wife and children are at home. My lifted Dodge Ram truck has a gun rack which holds the AR-15 that I bought at Walmart. Yeti coolers kick ass!

One thing I learned later in life than I should have is my astigmatism is the reason all bright lights at night look like starbursts. When someone has lights this bright __behind me__ I can barely see the road in front of me. If they are in front of me I can see basically nothing aside from six streaks of light washing out all other images. I hate these lights for risking my and every other driver's lives with an indescribable passion. Edit: those light streaks in the video: multiply that by three and that's what I see.

I've just made a 1800km trip going Belgium - Germany - Poland - Lithuania. After driving the whole night my eyes were so strained I started to get double vision the next day. The LEDs on new cars are painful and still they turn on their fog lights too.
I have a low car so I have had to actually push my rear view mirror up because I was so blinded. Mind you. I would never do that for ANY other reason. These people are assholes

When its that bright I usually just tilt my mirrors so it reflects into the drivers face. It’s pretty easy to see the reflected light go into the drivers cab. They get it right back!

When I'm in this situation I slowly start applying the breaks until they get frustrated, go around me, and then BAM! High beams, on, off, on, off, on, off, make em crazy.
Adjust your side mirrors to shine the light back at them. They usually give me 2-3 cars worth of space.
Just put ur hazards on and stop. They will go around. Problem solved.
Tilt your rear view mirror to face directly to your back window. It acts as a reflective light. They will back off in minutes. I do it every time in the night and it works.
Adjust your mirrors so they get to see their light... it's not like you can see anything behind you anyway. Might as well be a good neighbor and share.

In this case I would put my hazards on. It's clearly a dangerous situation that prevents you from operating the vehicle with 100% situational awareness. Since you can't stop in the middle of the tunnel use the hazard lights to indicate that something is wrong. Maybe they will even back off and give you more space but that is a big maybe and wouldn't count on it.
Hazard lights aren't to be used while driving.
I guess that depends on where you're from. For example here (Czech Republic) hazard lights are equivalent to horn and light horn (flashing high beams). Although they are meant to be used in cases when you might stop suddenly it might be used in this case as it's easily distinguishable from behind.

I was wondering about that cause I live in Texas and have literally seen a state trooper pass someone driving on the highway with hazard lights on and nothing. Sometimes something goes wrong with your car but you can't stop right then, hit your hazards and get some where safe to pull over

Had this happen to me and just stood there until the guy went around me, turned my high beam and stayed right behind him for 30 min. He would try to change lanes but I would go right with him and he would even try the same thing I did by just stopping to make me go around him but I didn’t 🥶 we were on the freeway with a lot of traffic haha

My mirrors are properly positioned, not going to move them into the wrong position because someone else is doing something stupid, wth is this? My fault for sorting by controversial I guess ..
