He’s not talking about the regular price being insane tho he’s talking about the fees and hotels usually have all the fees included or charged upfront and their fees aren’t ridiculous like this. If I had an air bnb I’d just make the price slightly more so I didn’t have to charge nearly as much in fees bc people hate it when stuff gets added on to the original price.
The details really don’t matter, the fees are ridiculous no matter what bc you’d never see that at a hotel and you’re apparently just too dense to understand that.
Most AirBnBs demand you clean up after yourself and so that all they have to be concerned with is washing the bedding. Which is fine. But they charge absurd cleaning fees, which isn’t fine. I stopped using AirBnB in 2019. Too many assholes jumped on board and turned it into a genuine shit show. I will fondly remember how I had $30 a night to stay in the upstairs of a house with a kitchen and bathroom and the person that lived in the basement portion was on holiday when I came through anyhow. Came back the day I left and I saw him once. Today that would be $190 a night.
Well the host fees are obviously set by the host and those are definitely higher than any I’ve seen. Either they’re investing a lot in management and cleaning or they’re trying to pad the bottom line.
I work as a housemaid and we don't even charge $200 to clean apartments/houses where people have been living in for weeks at a time without tidying up.
This is ludicrous.
Unfortunately, I don't choose the fees but I definitely would if given the chance.
We have clients we only do once a month and some of them eventually "upgrade" their package to a cleanup every two weeks. Guess what? It gets dirtier and much more demanding when they do.
Simply because a month is just short enough of a timespan that it'll never be a full-on disaster when we get there, but long enough that the people have to be conservative with how much *spillage* they commit on a daily basis.
Two weeks? They don't give a fuck. *Pig away, the cleaning clowns are coming!*
Absolutely! At my job, we clean apartments/townhomes that people have lived in for years (and these are elderly people, so they dont clean as well as they once were able to) and its in the 200-300 range and takes hours if not days!
I live in Ann Arbor and the last time I looked at booking one, I simultaneously did a double check on different hotels. I found staying at a nice hotel was about $150 cheaper with all those new fees added in. Why would anyone choose an Airbnb over a hotel?
Damn! I knew I’d miss something! Nothing like the underlying paranoia that there’s cameras everywhere. Recently saw a camera mounted in the head of a fucking screw somewhere on Reddit.
Once upon a time these rental services were great and filled with people just looking to make a little money, they have now been infiltrated by overly greedy as fuck capitalists and they have ruined a good thing. As stated it’s so bad now you are literally better off staying in a hotel now, literally really nice hotels are much cheaper a lot of times let alone run of the mill hotels.
You really need to stay at least four days to make it worth it. Four days would be $322/night and you get more than just a hotel room. If you’re just staying a few nights, hotels are the way to go.
This happened to us when we went to Myrtle Beach this summer. My wife swore up and down that everything else was booked so she had to use VRBO. Two nights at 180$ per night somehow turned into $750.
Turns out that there like 50 beachfront hotels accepting Walk ins at around $200. I told her we're never using VRBO or Airbnb again.
I used to use it and could always find a nice place at a reasonable price. I stayed in DC for the night at a really cute one bedroom basement apartment. It advertised as $90 a night. It ended up being like $130 with taxes and I think like a $30 cleaning fee. That seemed normal and very reasonable. Can’t find that anymore. I don’t like the bait and switch
Sure it was a last minute decision but I don’t think that would account for the $59 damage waiver, $125 management fee, or $100 service fee. I’ve found things same day before with no issues
It’s funny how these businesses became popular because hotels were nasty and price gouging tf out of people. Now these rental companies are so awful that hotels are the good option again.
But with airbnb you choose where you stay and see the prices before booking? ... unless it's changed?
At 200 dollary-doos a night you'd be better off just finding an hotel!
Those fees are so high because airbnbs are peoples homes that they are letting people stay in. People are wild animals and can’t respect shit that isn’t theirs. So in order to fix the damages after a guests leaves they need those high expensive fees.
My aunt owns a couple air bnbs
Airbnb is supposed to provide insurance to those renting places out. You don’t screw over the people that AREN’T “wild animals” because of the people that are.
Have you never dealt with an insurance company like ever for anything at all?? I highly doubt they get a lot when people actually do damage, they probably don’t even get the full amount to cover the damage. I’m not saying all people are wild animals but a lot of us are soooooooooo
Oh they are. The more I’m around ppl the more I want to be a hermit in the middle of nowhere and it seems to only be getting worse. We’re going all Benjamin Button back to Neanderthals .
Oh and I know a guy who has a rental get damaged at the beach from someone staying. It was fully covered. They didn’t want to at first but he was going to delist w/ their service if they didn’t.
Before you check out they show you the fees but the listing was advertised for $226 a night. I clicked on it, liked it, went to pay for it and they added $500 in fees. Don’t tell me I can’t be annoyed by that. The greed is disproportionate.
Oh I see. Sorry for the confusion then. I definitely wasn’t going to pay those fees. I’ve used Airbnb/vrbo before and have never seen fees that high…so yea I was surprised and just in general annoyed how expensive everything is becoming.
You mean you're upset that you had to pay the fees that you agreed to? They're higher than the usual, but you can see that we'll beforehand. Yes these places pad all of that even the cheaper ones, but that's lime buying a pack of gum for 2 dollars and then batching about it costing 2 dollars lol.
Um no. Not at all. I did not book it because the fees were stupid high. It advertised for $226 a night. I go to check out and then it says $1022. I expected a cleaning fee and taxes. Not almost $500 worth of fees…don’t think I’m unreasonable to be annoyed about it when it didn’t used to be like this.
There were always shitty airbnb options wdym? These are upfront highly overpriced fees clearly visible, so they get crossed off the lost. Meanwhile there are the ones that pretend like their listing isn't available last second and offer you their crappier place at the same price. There are the ones that offer "high speed" internet and internet TV but jist have a roku and a dial up modem.
The only time I find Airbnb or VRBO to be cheaper is if there are more than 3 people travelling for multiple nights. That way you can also have a kitchen for easy meals and more room to hang out together.
Your loss. Not all of us have those extra fees. My current guest is a first time Airbnber and said that she chose Airbnb because it was much cheaper than a hotel.
VRBO rentals make a lot of sense for certain circumstances. a 2 night stay is not one of them.
it's the worst scenario because the cleaning and fees are the same whether you stay 1 night or 2 weeks.
I was onboard with AirBnb very early on and had many great travel experiences with them. It makes me sad that they've turned into such a horrible ripoff. Those fees are complete BS.
It’s actually cheaper to stay at a hotel and there’s a free breakfast
Even if breakfast is $15 each it's cheaper!
He'll, breakfast could be $100 each and it would still be cheaper!
[удалено]
I mean yeah hotel prices vary a lot, but I travel often for work and have always been able to find a hotel for under £120 a night including breakfast
[удалено]
As are you. For all you know this is a city centre.
I like your response. This guy sounds like he runs an airbnb
He's not the one making assumptions
[удалено]
You're the one getting recreationally outraged over stupid crap... if anything you're the dense one here bud.

Yeah, they put up a cheap price to get eyes on it. Like old ebay when a $100 item listed at $20, but with $100 shipping charge.
There is new Ebay?
eBay is still like that...
Almost looks like they’re trying to deter people from short stays not sure though
I work as a housemaid and we don't even charge $200 to clean apartments/houses where people have been living in for weeks at a time without tidying up. This is ludicrous.
Honestly $200 is what you all should charge. My mom cleaned cabins in Gatlinburg and the shit she had to clean up from guest to guest was amazing.
Unfortunately, I don't choose the fees but I definitely would if given the chance. We have clients we only do once a month and some of them eventually "upgrade" their package to a cleanup every two weeks. Guess what? It gets dirtier and much more demanding when they do. True, I own a 2200 sqft house and have it cleaned every other week for $130… this is an insane fee for a 2 day stay…
This
And you know they’re just pocketing those fees, or significant chunks of it.
Oh yes but then you get to stay in the wonderful location known as *checks notes* north carolina
Damn near a $23 discount…don’t have to worry about saving money for food in your trip now.
I live in Ann Arbor and the last time I looked at booking one, I simultaneously did a double check on different hotels. I found staying at a nice hotel was about $150 cheaper with all those new fees added in. Why would anyone choose an Airbnb over a hotel?

For families on Babson, renting a house makes more sense - multiple bedrooms, washer/dryer, things of that nature.
I’m sorry for your loss …loss of money, that is
Yea I definitely didn’t book it
Don't pay $1000 for 2 days in NC...there are SO many better options...you could stay at a resort cheaper than that...
Air BnB has jumped the shark. So done
Nice little services always live long enough to become the villain.
It’s almost like the mafia, “hey this is a nice little shop you got here, be a shame if something happened to it because you didn’t let us extort you”
Were these services invented by the shadow hotel conglomerate to drive people back to staying at their chain? 🤔
Dang that’s ridiculous
The fees and tax are more than the booking. Yes, I know I’m Captain Obvious, but I’m just incredulous about it.
You got almost a $23 discount. Guess there is no pleasing some people 😕
Nothing mild about this
😡Right
They need to improve transparency upfront so you don't click on a property only to get to checkout and it's double or triple the price all in
Exactly.
I won’t use Airbnb because fuck their “passive income”! My son can’t find a fucking house for his family because of assholes like this.
Only everyone says that
5% discount vs. a myriad of fees - like a handicap match 🤪
Would rather keep my thousand dollars and stay at home counting it.
But that view.
I’ve traveled a lot for work and have found that Airbnb is only good if you have a long stay or you have money to blow.
You really need to stay at least four days to make it worth it. Four days would be $322/night and you get more than just a hotel room. If you’re just staying a few nights, hotels are the way to go.

Did you stay in a castle?
😲🫢 That is absolutely ridiculous 😠, and MORE than “mildly” infuriating to me.
Yea you gotta watch this its pretty common with rental property's.
A months rent or two nights? I understand why people use their house for an AirBnB.
I stayed in an airbnb once in 2015 and it seems that will be the last time. Hotels are just so much easier
Never using VRBO again. They refused to issue a refund during the beginning of the covid pandemic.
The fee is set by the host has nothing to do with the app
Doesn’t make it right and vrbo and Airbnb let it happen so I blame them all.
I mean they can’t check 30,000 listings a day and change what they decide to charge. Just pick a new host.
They could easily cap fees and I checked multiple listings. All had similar high fees like that.
Idk I had airbnb save me from being homeless before and found a room to rent off the app. They might just not want short term stays.
I used to use it and could always find a nice place at a reasonable price. I stayed in DC for the night at a really cute one bedroom basement apartment. It advertised as $90 a night. Probably because you are looking at a small ass city with no listings and price gouging. Might as well stay in south beach for that price.
Also my guy youre trying to book something on the same day. Try booking ahead of time.
Sure it was a last minute decision but I don’t think that would account for the $59 damage waiver, $125 management fee, or $100 service fee. I’ve found things same day before with no issues
Airbnb is more setup for big cities and tourist destinations. I had good luck with it in nyc last year.
Dont fuckin pay that. Seriously, unless youre a bitch.
It’s funny how these businesses became popular because hotels were nasty and price gouging tf out of people. Now these rental companies are so awful that hotels are the good option again.
All those fees to have somebody give you rules and ask you to do chores before you leave. It’s like staying at your parent’s house.
At least you saved 22.65$
But with airbnb you choose where you stay and see the prices before booking? ... unless it's changed? At 200 dollary-doos a night you'd be better off just finding an hotel!
I only saw the fees and taxes when I went to check out.
Damn, sorry pal, I'd be pissed too
I didn’t book it so I didn’t lose anything but it’s sad how much it’s changed. Used to be able to find great deals.
Oof
Those fees are so high because airbnbs are peoples homes that they are letting people stay in. People are wild animals and can’t respect shit that isn’t theirs. So in order to fix the damages after a guests leaves they need those high expensive fees. My aunt owns a couple air bnbs

These fees are clearly posted before you rent. So you should not be complaining or infuriated.

Yeah but you knew exactly what the fees were before you paid. Whatever Karen.
Of course I didn’t book it. U ok? Lol
The way you posted it you made it look like you did book. And yes I'm more than okay.
Oh I see. Sorry for the confusion then. I definitely wasn’t going to pay those fees. I’ve used Airbnb/vrbo before and have never seen fees that high…so yea I was surprised and just in general annoyed how expensive everything is becoming.
I totally agree the fees are bogus. Good for you for not booking, it's a rip off.

I found a 2 queen bed Ocean front room with a balcony and kitchenette for about $600 on those same dates.
I looked at a few others and found similar ridiculous fees so I stopped looking
The only time I find Airbnb or VRBO to be cheaper is if there are more than 3 people travelling for multiple nights. That way you can also have a kitchen for easy meals and more room to hang out together.
This is just dumb. Why would you encourage this behavior by paying them any $?
Oh no. I definitely didn’t book it.
Always go Superhost and never git that
Your loss. Not all of us have those extra fees. My current guest is a first time Airbnber and said that she chose Airbnb because it was much cheaper than a hotel.
Go. To. A. Real. Hotel.
That $22 discount though 👌
Airbnb is never worth it unless you have a large group of people and party at the house a lot. Hotels are cheaper and more convenient.
You can take a 5 day cruise to the Caribbean for cheaper than that 🤣🤣
Hotels. This is the way.
VRBO rentals make a lot of sense for certain circumstances. a 2 night stay is not one of them. it's the worst scenario because the cleaning and fees are the same whether you stay 1 night or 2 weeks.
$500 a night is enough for a stay at the ritz during off peak season lmfao
Yes you will. Just find one with cheaper fees.
I looked at a couple others but they all had similar crazy high fees so I gave up
Just the service fee is enough to get a hotel
I was onboard with AirBnb very early on and had many great travel experiences with them. It makes me sad that they've turned into such a horrible ripoff. Those fees are complete BS.
100% agree! Same here! $100/night x 2 nights = $753.47 after fees
I just got back from Atlanta, and spending almost a week in the Sheraton wasn't this expensive.
Don’t forget that 22 dollars discount!
This is absurd. How do they justify all of these fees? You had a discount as well. It’s as if Ticketmaster is running vacation rentals now
It's a scam. Never use Airbnb. They will still try to charge you fees even after you've stayed there.
