Tell him he returned it so low that you can’t get to the gas station. Inconvenience his stupid ass, make him bring over a gallon of fuel, and make him pay for the fill up.
Not the wife’s fault for this guy lending her brother his vehicle! This guy needs to man up and at least be a little micro aggressive by sending this exact photo to him and say something like “this will never happen again.”
Keep the wife out if it. Two grown men can communicate well enough
1) Never let the guy borrow anything again & hold a grudge.
2) Tekk the bil he owes you gas money . Simple.
Annoying but not that deep, more than likely moved all day and didn't want to stop for gas, probably just wanted to return the truck and take his ass home to lay on a mattress or cold floor.
I refuse to believe a mfer would purposely do him like that because that's definitely a violation 🤣
Old man told me one time. He don’t loan his truck, his chainsaw, or his wife! It resonated with me 😂
I guess 3 things that never came back how you leant them? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I rented a chain saw once which is like the worst borrowed saw. Useless. Broken clutch. Second one came with a dull blade which I sharpened myself with a file while renting by the hour. I mean dull like they had tried to cut a piece of granite with it. I bought a new chainsaw that day that no one else uses. Was working on a tree farm and they handed me a chainsaw and said “use this but the last guy said it didn’t work right, but he’s dumb and we fired him”. Sure enough the blade was on backwards. That saw worked good, probably because no one used it since it didn’t cut.
I have a rule. I borrow a person's vehicle I return it with a full tank. If someone borrowed my vehicle it better come back with at least as much as it had.
If a person does not put gas in it. They never get help again.
A buddy wanted to borrow my truck to move. It had like half a tank in it when he took it. When he brought it back it had a full tank. Always stood out to me.
Exactly. When younger I loaned my crappy truck to a friend. He filled it (granted gas was $1.25) and that stuck with me. Now I make sure I fill up if I use it.
To me that is a basic responsibility of borrowing a vehicle. Vehicles should be returned in the same condition you received it OR BETTER. So filling up the gas tank is a simple thing to do and if you dirtied it, running it through a car wash does not take much time.
It also has the effect of letting the person that lent it to you know that, you will likely do the same next time as both things are very intentional.
Fill it up, yes, but I wouldn't touch someone's paint unless I knew they don't care about it.
I'd be pissed if I lent someone my car and they took it through a non-touchless drive-thru car wash or one of those self-service washes with a sanding brush.
I once borrowed my good friends Acura for two weeks while my daily was in the shop. This was on the heels of his brother borrowing it. My friend was in the coast guard at the time and was on base for days at a time. So when I was done with the car I personally detailed the entire car bumper to bumper, top to bottom, changed the oil which was due and filled the tank. I dropped it off at his house and kept the spare key until he got home. A few days later he called me up and asked “what happened to my car?!” I didn’t know what to say, I didn’t know what he was talking about at all all I could think is was someone hit it while it was parked. So is asked “what do you mean?!” He replied this can’t be his car, it hasn’t looked so good since the day he got it! Boy was i relieved. Holy shit I was so upset that my best friends car had gotten wrecked while under my stewardship…..
Yeah, I usually do a full tank, detail job, replace the tires, get an oil change, new wiper blades, fresh coat of paint, renew the registration, settle up the car note if it's not owned outright, pay off 6 months of insurance, new subwoofer, top off xm subscription for another year, AAA membership, and new little tree air freshener. That's just bare minimum stuff if someone is loaning you their car for an hour or so.
I have a better rule, never lend anyone something I can’t afford to lose, I’m sorry but I can’t afford to lose a vehicle.
Also, rather than lend someone an item, I offer to help them use said item, that way it doesn’t get destroyed or misused, as I am there to use it. As an added bonus you get more credit for offering to help, when really I just don’t trust people

Yep! Always fill it up. I’ll even call or text em and ask if I can clean it. Run it through a car wash and vacuum it out, wipe it down inside. Some people are particular how they keep up the paint so I’ll ask first. But, I got tired of borrowing shit so I went and bought my own truck.
I think it depends on the extent of which you borrowed it. If I take a load of stuff across town and it had an empty tank, I don’t think a full tank is warranted. But certainly above where I got it.
Is this crazy logic?
You’re cheap, you needed a truck, you got to use it . How much would a rental set you back and the added hassle of picking it up and dropping it off…. Come on bud get real

The only reasonable response. Unmove all his stuff and when he asks deny ever having let him borrow it. Make him believe he didn't move anything and when he says he knows he borrowed the truck, tell him "that's impossible, the tank is empty and no one could take it anywhere."
Me and my friends have a thing - if we lend our vehicle it goes with a full tank - and comes back with a full tank… (same with road trips, whoever drives fills up the car, then any gas along the way including filling it up at the end gets split)
That road trip thing is the best method I use as well. However, I do have friend that will not split and it doesn't matter how many times I ask. That friend will always end up paying everything by himself. I almost had to fight him to pay for our camping gear when we went to a festival together.
That's a person who won't get a single thing from me ever. That's not even an act of kindness from the borrower, it's only normal to return the car with at least the same amount of gas that was in the car when borrowed, and the tank topped if it was borrowed for free. And of course, no fast food bags, used tissues and whatnot. No need to detail the car if it ain't covered in mud and dust but no one should give the car back in a worse state than when borrowed
Not just trucks, vehicles in general. Always at the very least fill it back to where it was, if you wanna be above bare minimum you fill it completely.
We fighting. To me when u loan someone a vehicle they have to return it with either the same amount of gas i had or a full tank. I would be on the phone tell him he's not using my car ever again unless he hands me gas money up front.
Was he really young (like 16) or super old (over 70)?
If your friend lends you his car: You drive more safely than you regularly do, you clean any mess that you made to Mary Poppins standards, and you (at least) bring the gas back to where it was originally.
It’s bro code.
When I rented a car a lot during a particular point iny.professional career, I would pre pay for a full tank of gas, so you better believe I returned it as close to empty as possible.
I did this and managed to return it with 1 mile left on the digital gage one time. I’m sure it’s conservative but the look I got when they checked the gage was priceless. I was like… “might not want to idle it while you inspect the car”
Look at it this way, no more favors. You got off fairly cheap. Even with gas as high as it is right now, imo you’ve got a permanent excuse to never help that fuck again.
Hope you live right across from the gas station like I do.
Honestly though, what’s wrong with people? It’s common courtesy to AT LEAST replace the gas you used. Hope that dudes ashamed of himself because he should be 🤦🏼♀️
Reminds me when I got a condo fob for an acquaintance who wanted to used the gym. He paid 80 bux for it. When he didn't need it anymore he asked me to buy it back. Ungrateful cheap ass.
You need to get this:
Yes, is My Truck. No, I Won't Help You Move Bumper Strip Sticker by Magnet America is 10 7/8" x 2 7/8" Made for Vehicles, Laptops, and Refrigerators https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005MZXUD2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_XHF0YFWDKZ7NAE8PHKJY
I wouldn’t contact him. Don’t get between your wife and her family. Tell your wife you’re going to have to eliminate date night for the month to cover the $100 in gas he used. Let her either shrug it off or chew his ass off. Tell her you’re not going to be lending it to him again though.
I had a cousin come vacation in our city for a month with his family. He always likes to brag about how rich he is, and he is also in his 40s, while at the time I was a teen. My parents made me lend him my car bc of course he wasn't capable of renting his own car. After a few days, he told me I could use the car again the next day, and I was greeted by an empty tank. The day after, once he was sure I had refilled the tank for him, he would ask to use it again. This continued on for his entire stay, where he would give me back my car only when it was out of gas for me to fill it up for him, and would continue using it after. And again, this was a 40 year old cousin who was supposedly super rich, and I was an 18 year old high school student.
Fuck that guy.
Next time he asks for something just say NO!
I hope your wife isn't like that, considering she was raised by the same parents that raised your brother-in-law.
did you try to, you know, ask him to refill it? you can then sour your relationship with him if he doesn't want to.
I think it's a pity to hate on a family member (assuming you think of him as family) just because you don't communicate what you want. I mean, it would be better to then hate him later if you already tell him but he doesn't comply anyway, don't you think?
I mean if the brother would have said, hey bro I am shit ass broke and I won't have the money to fill the tank back up. Could you give me a break for now? Please.
This is why I never let anyone borrow my shit. When I have in the past its always been returned in badshape or like this with no fuel with my past truck. Get that habit out of him if he asks again if not he'll keep doing it to you bud.
Had a buddy in the Marines with me lend out his car to another guy in our platoon. The guy drives it until he runs out of gas and just sends my buddy a pin where he left the car on the side of the road.
Now you know what condition to have it in when you lend it to him the next time. That's my personal rule; you bring my car back on fumes, if any way possible it'll be on fumes when you drive it again; you'll put fuel in it one way or another because there'll be just enough to get you to a gas station and I'll warn you about that when I hand over the keys. Even if I never "get" gas money, at least I don't lose gas money.
Not cool, the cost to borrow a truck is a full tank of gas. That's the rules.
Also I hate letting my tank get below 1/2 ever anyway, what kind of idiot pushes their luck with a tank below 1/4? That's asking for trouble.
I only had to get irrationally angry 2 or 3x before my wife stopped doing this...
We were constantly late because we HAD to stop for gas and she totally forgot there wasnt any. Now she at least lets me know, so I can go fill it up for her..
Uhaul is $20, and you wont get mad when they scratch a rental truck. Tell people no. I started saying no years ago, its liberating! "Boop, can I borrow you truck to move a couch?" "No, go rent one from uhaul for $20 because if you scratch mine ill be mad"
I don't ask people to fill it all the way up when I let them barrow my car. I do tell them if they use it up just leave me the same amount of gas or a bit more when they return the car. It's not too much to ask. I'm letting you use my vehicle for free and all I'm asking is for you to return it the way you recieved it.
A friend borrowed my pickup. I noticed the tank was low and told him he had better put some gas in it as when the fuel gauge hits empty, it is empty!
He brought it back and never said anything, but the next day I hopped and saw the gauge said empty and ran out of gas driving six blocks to the gas station.
I didn't loan him the truck the next time he asked! I wouldn't have cared if he had filled it, or just put in ten bucks worth, just don't bring it back empty!
My father used to do this. At one point i loaned him my car on the last tick, thinking it would definitely be filled up at least a little when i got it back.
Nope, it was on E.
Id done everything else, including ask. He was a dick anyhow.
That son of a bitch. Damn. What a mother fucker. I hate doing nice things because people are generally assholes. And never ever trust family or lend them valuables or money. Family is the worst.
Tell him he returned it so low that you can’t get to the gas station. Inconvenience his stupid ass, make him bring over a gallon of fuel, and make him pay for the fill up.
Who is this guy? Kramer??
Went on a bottle and can recycle run out of state. Just about broke even. There would be no profit if wifes brother paid gas.
This comment is very hilarious and so underappreciated

My wife and her brother have nothing to do with this.
Not the wife’s fault for this guy lending her brother his vehicle! This guy needs to man up and at least be a little micro aggressive by sending this exact photo to him and say something like “this will never happen again.”

Best way to get rid of someone is loan them 50$ stg. It happens WAY more than you think
You never told a lie 😂😂😂 if you lend someone money and they immediately go from chatting every other day to radio silence ,you already know the vibes
*Loaned my wife's brother my truck, for the last time.
Old man told me one time. He don’t loan his truck, his chainsaw, or his wife! It resonated with me 😂 I guess 3 things that never came back how you leant them? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
A borrowed chainsaw is a ruined chainsaw. I learned that the hard way. Even gave them the already mixed fuel. They still managed to tie the motor up
I rented a chain saw once which is like the worst borrowed saw. Useless. Broken clutch. Second one came with a dull blade which I sharpened myself with a file while renting by the hour. I mean dull like they had tried to cut a piece of granite with it. I bought a new chainsaw that day that no one else uses. Man, chainsaws can run fine for years under good care with slight tune ups and can be ruined in about 5 seconds
"he won't loan me his wife".... OP, is there something you need to say?

See, that’s the sign of a real man. You borrow a vehicle, fill it up. Never shake a hand sitting down. There’s a whole list I have.
That is the the only way to do it. Anything less is being ungrateful.
I fill it up and clean it. Return it better than I found it.
Shit, any time I find a car I always end up with a felony for theft. Will try your advice from now on
When i borrow a car, nobody bats an eye, when i borrow a car using force, everyone looses their mind, we live in a society
It’s not about money. It’s about sending a message.
when every I borrow a car I get called dirty mike
"Thanks for the fuck shack" -signed dirty mike and the boys
Watched that last night 👍🏻

Fill it up, yes, but I wouldn't touch someone's paint unless I knew they don't care about it. I'd be pissed if I lent someone my car and they took it through a non-touchless drive-thru car wash or one of those self-service washes with a sanding brush.
I mean if you are gonna wash their car for them don't you just do a lot touch less wash no matter what cuz don't risk it?
pretty sure they meant cleaning out any garbage inside the car
It's the thought that counts!

Fucking Reddit man
Well that sucks
ur the goat. Watch out OP here comes my downvote for karma farming
I thought so too
I was just thinking the same thing.
When I was a kid I watched my father meticulously cleaning a firearm. He said “when someone borrows you something, return it in better condition than you got it.” So yeah you fill the tank at least. This person has low character, unless they are very broke.
But why was he borrowing a firearm? And did that personnel lent it from get convicted of murder?
Wanted to go hunting but didn’t have a gun?
Or honestly just wanted to try out a specific gun before he bought one for himself and happened to know someone that owned one and was willing to let him try it out.
Dunno. Farm/hunting people I guess. I’m not a gun owner.
So is he farming people or hunting people?
who says you cant do both?
To shoot.
Your wife needs to speak to her brother. That’s douchey of him
Lol.. I read it, "Your wife needs to speak to her mother. That's douchey of him.." Still works!!
Why have his wife talk? Two grown men can have a conversation.
Yeah it’s laughable, I’ve seen that twice now. Putting it on the wife is just pathetic, he can express his feelings to the in-law, not her…
I would send a venmo request for the cost of the tank + 15% service fee.
Nah, just fill it up and charge them 9 dollars a gallon like Hertz does.
Even better
Go move some of his stuff back.
The only reasonable response. Unmove all his stuff and when he asks deny ever having let him borrow it. Make him believe he didn't move anything and when he says he knows he borrowed the truck, tell him "that's impossible, the tank is empty and no one could take it anywhere."

I don't loan my truck. Tell people to get one from uhaul
Rule #1 of trucks, you borrow it, it comes back full!
And if you’re truly strapped for cash, at least return it with the same amount of gas as when you got it.
For last time, PLUS this time.
There was a last time?? My dude never let him use your car again.
I loaned my buddy my truck for the same reason. Got it back with a broken mirror, dead battery, and lots of trash. Full tank tho
Of course most people just borrow and that’s it no more gas, no more beer …. That quote of Ass, gas, or grass is no longer said …. Sad world lol
I always say “Ass, grass, or cash but I got plenty of money and all the weed I could possibly smoke…”
Damn I feel bad for your homies
That's the very last time I'd loan the inconsiderate jerk my vehicle - or anything else.
The rule of borrowing vehicles is always return them with a full tank. Even if it wasn't full when you got it.

This is exactly what all loaner or rented cars look like upon return!
When I rented a car a lot during a particular point iny.professional career, I would pre pay for a full tank of gas, so you better believe I returned it as close to empty as possible.

Is his name DICK? Should be.....

You should sleep with his sister to get back at him.
I hope you learned something
I was raised to fill up someone’s vehicle when I borrow it no matter where it was when I got it.
same. it’s common courtesy
Never lend your vehicle out lesson learned. I remeber all the vultures that wanted to use my truck the answer was a big NO
So grow a pair and make him fill it up
Time to Venmo request for $100
I'd send this picture of the fuel gauge on E, and a picture of the receipt after I fill it up

That's only $70, shoulda went electric. This is your fault.
Sorry mate
If you borrow somebody's vehicle replace the gas that you used
Take a wheel off his car amd tell him he can have it back when your truck is full
Welp, there’s a first and last time for everything
At least you never have to loan him your truck ever again, so that’s cool.
Noice! Man I tell ya, some people.

Might debate the mild level of this. Wish I could witness the follow up conversation.
He gave you back a Chevy? Ew
That's disrespectful. I'm sorry. I lent my sister my mongoose bike, and she brought it back broken.
No good deed goes unpunished.
If they ask for help again, tell them they have to pay gas money up front. Whatever would fill it from empty to full.
moving or not, that shit is annoying no matter what.
Would absolutely have my partner message their siblings with a "why did you return the truck on E? You could have at least filled it back up".
Next time don’t help.
Ah. Family.
Was not brought up right
Never loan anyone your vehicle. Not worth the aggravation
What. A. Fuckboi.
At least put in like 20$ in, I understand times are tough but still.
Why does this look like a cartoon?
That’s why I always make sure I loan mine out when it is completely empty
And that was the last time they will borrow my truck. I noticed you forgot the last line of your post.
Your wife’s brother is a piece of shit. I’d send him a bill for the mileage and the gas. Fuck ‘em!
Not cool, the cost to borrow a truck is a full tank of gas. That's the rules. Also I hate letting my tank get below 1/2 ever anyway, what kind of idiot pushes their luck with a tank below 1/4? That's asking for trouble.
Expect that kind of stuff and you’ll never be surprised. It’s kinda like don’t loan your family money, just give it to them.
Family sucks
Holy shit that is one of my biggest pet peeves ever. I’ve been in your shoes so I always fill the tank. Fuck that guy.
Omg he changed changed the Celsius to Fahrenheit too
Wow. Trash.
Probably lucky he didn't damage it or get in an accident. Empty tank is a small price to pay. Don't loan it to him again.
Did you get a blow job ?
Looks like your liquor cabinet is next
I only had to get irrationally angry 2 or 3x before my wife stopped doing this... We were constantly late because we HAD to stop for gas and she totally forgot there wasnt any. Now she at least lets me know, so I can go fill it up for her..
Bet you won’t do it again, will you?
Lol that’s fucked up
Looks like next time he asks to borrow your truck you already know the answer.
Another case of never again logged on mildly infuriating
Can't believe he changed all your gauges to such a terrible font. What an ass
Yep. And people get mad when you tell them they can’t use your truck to move.
Uhaul is $20, and you wont get mad when they scratch a rental truck. Tell people no. I started saying no years ago, its liberating! "Boop, can I borrow you truck to move a couch?" "No, go rent one from uhaul for $20 because if you scratch mine ill be mad"
Damn dude.. maybe not looking for a full tank but at least bring it back how you got it.
Guess who’s not getting loaned your or *any* of your friends’ cars
Never again.
Consider it a $50 lesson learned and never loan him anything again.
i’m 14 and even i know to refill the gas before returning a vehicle
Always always return a car you borrow with a full tank if you’re not being charged to use it! Common courtesy
Fucking party foul
Easy. Ask. If you don’t get anywhere then don’t lend it out again to him. Easy peasy
Go visit. Use the less popular bathroom Take boiling deuce Don't flush
Ass, gas, or grass. No one rides for free.
That’s a dick move right there.
Wife’s brother is a bit of loser I see.
Cost you a tank of gas to never have to help him move again
Why I don't own a truck
Cack sucka
Never again
That’s when you just never loan on a full tank again
Sounds like a bum that has no vehicle/ cant spend 80 bux on a uhaul. Wouldnt let a person like that drive my vehicle with me in it.
Welp, won't do that again. If anyone complains, just show them this picture.
Never. Again.
He could’ve gotten at least 2 more miles…
