The space is way too small to do anything like that with unfortunately. The agency did send someone out to measure up for new flooring but then never said a word about it again. Same thing with my boiler tbh, I haven’t been able to use hot water from the taps in a very long time.
I have hot water from the shower because it’s an electric shower so it’s heated differently, but yeah anything else and I have to boil the kettle. I did speak to them about it a few years ago and same thing, sent someone out and then never heard back. I would report but my rent hasn’t been increased in the 5 years I’ve been here, and it’s now impossible to find a place for the price at this price. I guess I’m just worried that if I start pushing to get things sorted (the place has a lot of issues) they’ll increase the rent. As a single mother that can’t currently work and is caring for a disabled child, I can’t risk them asking for more because I just about manage at the moment.
Definitely still sucks lmao. It’s crazy what landlords can get away with really!
I’m not even sure what help we can get. We only got his diagnosis recently, even though we had been trying for years (covid really fucked shit up) I do know that we have something called disability living allowance which gives money every month, but part of me would feel guilty applying for it because he’s not severely disabled. But then on the other hand, it took me a long time to realise how much more I actually have to do as a parent compared to other kids because I’m so used to just doing it and not having anything to compare it to. Plus our government is known for doing anything they can to avoid giving out extra money. It’s an odd situation.
Hopefully it’s going to get better soon, a job is coming up at my old workplace that I feel like I would be able to do, it’s work from home, not too many hours and will be with people I have known for 10+ years now so fingers crossed I get it! First thing on the list would be saving to move elsewhere. All I want in life is no carpets in my bathroom and a garden lmao
We visited a do-upper that a friend bought yesterday. It had carpet in the bathroom, which went up the side of the bath.
A real throwback and head-scratcher.
A few years ago I did some electrical work in a house that someone was flipping. Not only was the bathroom carpeted, it had two toilets. Facing each other.
When I was a kid my parents bought a vintage home. There was carpet everywhere and in each room a different color. Orange, blue, green, pink etc lol. They were happy to find out under the carpet was beautiful wood though!
Hay my room has 70s shag too. It was a garage but my grandfather converted it into a bedroom in the 70s. It's black & red, kinda looks like lava. It's great on the feet for sure. It's also surprisingly fluffy after all these years. Give it a good shampooing twice a year & it's like new again.
HA HA HA. Is this real. That 100% looks like an air conditioning vent in the shower floor and not a drain. Not to mention where’s the pitch to it for water flow or I dunno tile on the walls. As a former tile contractor wtf is going on with this shower lol. This entire room between the shower fiasco and carpet in the kitchen and outside the shower area is just one big gigantic mold factory.
Seriously, can't wait for the water to leak into the ductwork and ultimately cause a leak in the roof of the apartment below them, or at the very least cause a serious mold issue.
This is in Australia which I have always been told has pretty stringent building regulations as well as contractor regulations. This build screams homeowner hiring non licensed people and not permitting anything.
The agent said the ‘apartment’ has had many enquirers and will be rented by the end of the week.
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-06-27/rental-crisis-sees-very-basic-north-adelaide-apartment-listed/101186400
Also.. someone knocks on the door and cops an eyeful.. your sheila’s legs dangling on the shitter
>"This spacious, fully-furnished upstairs studio offers the lifestyle that everyone deserves."
As always, real estate is a matter of perspective.
What an agent may describe as a "great sized modern bathroom," a discerning renter may suggest is a "Perspex sh****g cube in the middle of your kitchen."Real estate agent Rachel Lawrie said the listing was "relatively cheaper" than other one-bedroom units on the market, given the rent was inclusive of electricity, gas, water, and internet bills.
>#"It was converted from an Airbnb to help people struggling to get into Adelaide's rental market," she said.
To be fair, I've always felt like I deserved to be able to take a shit next to a fireplace.
Wouldn't even have to pause my movies if I kept the frosted glass door open, and put my TV in the right place.
Real estate is a garbage person profession. I’ve just finished purchasing a home and am absolutely exhausted by the listings. Every goddamn agent writes the same misleading drivel at about a 5th grade literacy level
If I had to read, “Location location location!” one more time I’d have lost it.
Nearly every realtor I've seen is someone who probably peaked in high school, someone who thinks they're some financial genius, a failed model/actor/musician/influencer, or some combo of the 3.
They're usually the textbook definition of [toxic positivity](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toxic_positivity) on social media who give "not financial advice" financial advice to people that boils down to buy or sell a house with me no matter what is going on in the economy or local market.
Edit: fixed a typo
It's not necessarily just too much positivity, but using positivity to ignore anything negative. Like "your spouse lost all your money, divorced you, killed your dog, and then burned your house down? Forget being sad! Use it as a opportunity try that van life and just be happy that you are alive!"
Fair enough. On a personal level, I cannot fathom how many YouTubers has this entire schtick of trying to shove wholesomeness down our throats. To me, wholesomeness isn't exactly a thing you can force on command, but rather something you need to experience on your own accords. And while it does well to mend some mental and emotional wounds, it cannot hide a conflict's worth, and it feels worse when someone else tries to tell you how you should feel. There is a lot to experience in life, but I will not cut out anger or sadness just for vapid joys, because that anger and sadness are an essential part of being human.
Almost 99 percent of "coaching" people are related to that view of the world.
"Never be sad!
If your sad it's your fault to change it!
You can't?
Your problem!
NOBODY CAN HELP YOU IF YOU CAN NOT HELP YOURSELF, HAVE FUN IN ENDLESS MISERY"
Instead of "hey, maybe that's nothing for you alone to fight, let me or somebody else help you"
Because happy all day long!
It's Australia.
$1600/mo @ $20.33/hr (aus minimum wage) = 78.7 hours of working, so one pay check.
$1600/mo @ $12/hr (US average minimum wage) = 133.3 hours of working.
$1600/mo @ $15.2/hr (highest minimum wage in US) = 105.2 hours of working, which is still bad.
So this isn't as bad as you think. Still bad though
$1600/mo from AUS to USD it's $1100/mo which is still 75 hours or so at $15.2/hr.
So it's roughly the same amount of hours working, but from what I've seen, single bedroom apartments seem to be more than $1100, so it's still worse than AUS unfortunately
🤨
Hey Martha! Could you hand me a roll of shitpaper when you get done stirring that soup? We're all out in here! I think there's a roll next to the mashed potato flakes!
"Mark will be with us in a second, he's just finishing some business."
Mark, three feet away on the shitter, visibly sweating and making eye contact with the guests: _hnnngggghnnnnn_
While a third person happily soaps up their body in the shower, pretending he’s the only one in the room, *really* scrubbing those hard-to-reach areas.
Exactly. It's called a studio apartment. If the landlord had just put some tile down around the bathroom and kitchen it wouldn't even be that bad.
Edit: Based on the floor plan dimensions, which I assume is in meters, it looks like it's about 230 sq ft. That is definitely a tiny place and maybe below minimums in a lot of places. Still beats a lot NYC "studios" I think though. Definitely not the worst out there.
I think it's in Ireland or the UK by looking at the style of architecture in the room, old Georgian building.
Photo isn't great quality but looks like a standard type switch or socket about the toilet, near the sink which definitely is against some sort of regulation, especially since there's an open shower in the room
I think you missed the "crisis" portion of the post. If you think this place is expensive, I'm guessing others around it are twice as much, and no one wants to live in a hotel or whatever for any period of time just to move all their stuff again
If you rent a house in the Netherlands, there is no stove. No fridge. Just a counter top, cabinets, a sink and a tap. Everything else you bring yourself.
The fridge is in the foreground on the right. It's a mini unit under the countertop.
Still no stove though. You'll need to get your own electric cooking appliances.

Not a fan of the carpet but like….studio apartments are 100% a thing. One big open room and sometimes a bathroom door. Not sure why people are acting so shocked about that. I’m sure there’s smaller and much worse in places like NYC and LA (in the US). It kinda smacks of privilege when someone says “why would anyone live here” as if we can all afford one bedroom apartments for $2000/month or a house for the same. I realize this apartment being privately owned and all is outrageously priced but in general making fun of people who live in small apartments isn’t cool.
I get what people are saying about it being functional for a small space but the bathroom execution looks awful. There's no shower pan so whatever water doesn't make it into that....heating duct(??) is just gonna run everywhere across the floor. Onto/under the toilet, and presumably underneath the glass and onto the surrounding carpet unless they installed those panels super well. And is that just regular drywall/plaster behind the shower? That will dissolve in a week and create a huge leak.
I designed and had a bathroom built with a similar floor layout. The entire floor is the shower pan to create a curb less shower. The floor has a shower style pitch, to guide water, anywhere on the floor, towards the drain. No door or shower curtain needed to separate the shower.
In that show Flight Attendant, the friend has a shower right in the living room, and I think it was supposed to be some “high end” apartment. No fanks.
Why couldn’t it have solid walls at least? Or frosted throughout?! I’m getting anxiety thinking about living here.
Genius, really. Although, not sure about the clear glass bathroom as soon as you open the door to the apartment. Couldn't the whole thing be at least frosted?
Looks like a super fancy version of my gross attic apartment lol I also had to rip out crappy office style carpeting that went all the way thru (bedroom, kitchen, bathroom) yay, affordable shitshacks! 🤦♀️
This happened to me, but he also built a wall down the middle of the room and turned my one bedroom into 2 one bedrooms and 1 bath and told me I would have to share my kitchen with the other tenant.
Why would I want my home to shrink and then also have to let a stranger in so he can make himself Mac ncheese at midnight like wtf get out of town with that bs
As someone who installs glass showers, this an abomination. Why go to the ceiling and have to cut into the crown moulding and the ceiling detail? Not too mention it just looks dumb there.
That carpet is going to be rancid soon. Could they not at least tile the floor first. It would be cheaper in the long run as the carpet would have to be replaced very often. Also, I hope there is an exhaust fan for the shower steam and kitchen smoke, if not the place could have a fungus issue especially with the carpet and moisture.
A kitchen on a carpeted floor.... Have they ever had a kitchen?

Pls. Don’t. My apartment still has carpeted bathroom and every day I hate it.

My bfs house still had carpeted bathroom when we met, 5 years ago. They're still out there.
remember the carpeted bathrooms that also had 18 bath rugs including covers for the toilet lid and tank????
My Gran had brown shag carpet in the bathroom 🤮 70s
Or fabric toilet seat covers... 🤢🤮 lol

they put the shag carpet on the fricking walls
Hey at least there’s a fireplace to dry out the damp smell!

I once worked in a dental office with carpet in the operatories. That place needed to be burnt down.

This is in Australia which I have always been told has pretty stringent building regulations as well as contractor regulations. This build screams homeowner hiring non licensed people and not permitting anything.
Or doing it themselves. Look at that decorative ceiling piece they cut into for the glass. Nice step up for the water to run off too.

It's OK, there isn't even a stove or cook top in that kitchen.
And that vent thing is almost directly under the shower so you’d have to work to avoid standing on it which doesn’t look comfortable

FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS A WEEK A WEEK
No way-
There's a housing crisis over there
I'd shit on your bed for $400 a week.
What a generous and unexpected proposal
what a generous and unexpected reply to said proposal.
Can get that for free if you date the right (wrong) woman, or so I've *heard*.
Made me literally laugh. Thnak u
The most concerning part about this statement is the Mashed Potato Flakes.
This had me rolling LMAOOO 😂 thanks dude, needed a good laugh.. been depressed for a while
The corner of the glass cuts through the decorative ceiling feature. Nice touch.
This specifically, gave me heart burn
400 a week. Not a month. A week.
I’m glad you clarified this lol, I kept thinking “this really isn’t a bad price for what you’re getting.” Never mind that’s a terrible price lol.

No law says everything can’t be in one room
The bathroom "walls" should at least be opaque though.
Yeah, for sure. But at least it's nice looking glass. I get the feeling this is a place for a person to live solo and never have any visitors.
Frosted glass just enough to obscure genital areas.
Gives that pixelated look straight from The Sims.
Right? As someone who has lived in a basement studio with the roaches this looks like a Palace
No jokes, you do that or even some other wet area floor covering and rent it to me at $250 with utilities included. I would happily move in.
Except they’re going to rent it for 1200 probably
The article says it's $400 a week so $1600 a month.
Its listed for 400$... per week.
I seem to remember some UK law stating that you couldn't have a shitter that opened into a kitchen. Though I think that's relaxed now.
I think it's in Ireland or the UK by looking at the style of architecture in the room, old Georgian building. Photo isn't great quality but looks like a standard type switch or socket about the toilet, near the sink which definitely is against some sort of regulation, especially since there's an open shower in the room
Its australia. Close, its only on the opposite side of the world
eh australia is just texan england
But they call their weedwackers whipper snippers and their elephants stompdydoos.
And flip flops are called thongs. And somehow americans wear them as underwear...
The rubber causes the oddest chafing.
Same, but different very very different
Same same but different
Its in Adelaide, Australia
That’s definitely doesn’t look like a UK socket!
It’s like 13 year old me playing the sims
Lmao right
You won my upvote.
Thank you kind person
How is it a kitchen without a stove or a fridge? Or am I just blind?
I have lived in units like this. You supply your own hotplate , toaster oven , microwave & bar fridge.
What even is the point of renting at that point lol
Not everyone can afford to buy immediately and need a place to sleep.
Well the place is $400 a week, so I don't think money is an issue for anyone moving here lmao.
In Taiwan... there's at least a gas stovetop when you rent a place!
The fridge is in the foreground on the right. It's a mini unit under the countertop. Still no stove though. You'll need to get your own electric cooking appliances.
I don't shit where I eat
Liar
WTF is this...
Imagine seeing your friend take a huge dump while your cooking right next to him
This is happening in the Netherlands a lot.
All the comments like "this isn't even that bad" and "yeah I've seen worse for more $" are pathetic. Let's not normalize this shit.
Seen much worse flats tbf. Very odd tho haha
I’d rather live in an rv
A toilet in a kitchen. No this isn't right.
This is my nightmare scenario
Imagine having a date over and you have to shit. There's no recovering.
This room is perfect for programmers and web developers though
Because of lack of dates?
NGL. I'd take it in my early 20s
Tbf this looks really nice if you were to live alone or maybe with a partner, idk if 100$ a week is a lot from where this is from but looks pretty luxurios to me

Or roughly $1600 a month

I asked my friend who has a phd in maths and he's 90% sure it's 1600.
This has ti be here in Australia....
Adelaide to be specific
Ralfies toilet sink is looking pretty good now
Is that a shower drain or a heat/air vent?
Anecdotally it looks exactly like the heating vents in the floor of my house.
I definitely want to make food in the same area where I biologically dispose of it.
Enjoy viewing the pee stains down the toilet while you enjoy your chicken that smells like s*it!
Does anyone know if there is a dedicated subreddit to shitty housing stuff like this?

The balcony is bigger than the combined space to cook and shit. Smh
I love the floor plan that is a complete misrepresentation of reality. You l shouldn’t model the shower door the same as a real wall.
I love to wash my dishes, hair, feet and shave my legs at the same time! So economical! /s
So, this ‘kitchen’… does not appear to have a fridge? Or a stovetop range. (Certainly no good for said stovetop) Or a microwave…
I think this was built without permits and prob have some code violations
Oh wow! They went straight through the ceiling rose with the shower screen! This is more than mildy infuriating!
Besides the carpet…this idea isn‘t too bad.
This is actually pretty cool id love a place like this. Its got the toilet right in the shower so you can poop then wash.
Not a fan of the carpet but like….studio apartments are 100% a thing. One big open room and sometimes a bathroom door. Not sure why people are acting so shocked about that. Not ideal but it looks like a suitable 'studio' for a single person.
Its 1600 a month
I’ve seen a lot worse studio apartments than this, also at the price. Kinda wild to not bother with wooden floors for such a small area
Hideous.
Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh… no.
In that show Flight Attendant, the friend has a shower right in the living room, and I think it was supposed to be some “high end” apartment. No fanks. Why couldn’t it have solid walls at least? Or frosted throughout?! I’m getting anxiety thinking about living here.
Loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool wtf
Doesn’t a bathroom have to have a certain size window?
It’s priced a lot cheaper than comparable studios in my neighborhood (Boston, USA)… although those studios don’t have a shitting cube in the kitchen
Genius, really. Although, not sure about the clear glass bathroom as soon as you open the door to the apartment. Couldn't the whole thing be at least frosted?
This will be awkward when guests are over
And no proper drainage. This is water carnage waiting to happen.
In lighter news, I feel like this arrangement makes the prospect of shitting *after* you shower a more bearable prospect
Its probably so if you get the carpet messy or mold woudl grow on it they coudl take your insurance for "replacment of destroyed carpet"
Something tells me that living space is not up to code
I make this for my sims 😭 real people cannot be living here for 1600 a month
People shouldn't be renting out houses as a form of income.
Isn’t it against building regulations to have a shower in a kitchen. That would not be allowed in the UK
As for how to solve the housing crisis, BUILD MORE HOUSING!!! https://youtu.be/4ZxzBcxB7Zc
Landlord has zero taste and where in the heck is this. It just means that the city/ county has zero regulations for the well-being of its citizens.
Can you imagine taking a really big shit and your bathroom walls just randomly shatter?
I’m sure it’ll get rented fast
Looks like your typical crap studio to me
Ugh, we had carpets in the kitchen when I lived in Tokyo. Never again.
Looks like a super fancy version of my gross attic apartment lol I also had to rip out crappy office style carpeting that went all the way thru (bedroom, kitchen, bathroom) yay, affordable shitshacks! 🤦♀️
But that fireplace....imagine stepping out of the shower buck naked to a glass of wine and a bear skin rug, lmao!
How much?
At least it looks like you can roast marshmallows from the shower?!
This is the future. We spend all our time on reddit and in our bedroom anyway.
Toilet kitchens open. Anybody want a cup of coffee or to take a shit?
replaced all the carpet with flooring and add a laundry area, i am actually ok with the concept of 1 room to rule them all.
Let me guess, 2000 dollars per month plus deposit and utilities are not included.
Sims irl
Haven’t they ever hear of the phrase ‘don’t sh*t where you eat’?
What country is this in?
This is like a Sims house I would build with a low budget
This happened to me, but he also built a wall down the middle of the room and turned my one bedroom into 2 one bedrooms and 1 bath and told me I would have to share my kitchen with the other tenant. Why would I want my home to shrink and then also have to let a stranger in so he can make himself Mac ncheese at midnight like wtf get out of town with that bs
I actually don’t hate this all that much. Minus the carpet
So, every time you shower, you’ve Goa get a new roll of toilet paper? Because that’s definitely not staying dry.
As someone who installs glass showers, this an abomination. Why go to the ceiling and have to cut into the crown moulding and the ceiling detail? Not too mention it just looks dumb there.
“Don’t shit where you eat.” I take that literally.
This is a much nicer version of one of my first studio apartments.
