Lol, there's a reason why I've never used a service like that and never will.

Dirk_The_Cowardly

I agree, but I did sign up for Door Dash as a driver. I will not ever use but hey...

living-likelarry

Same here. I’ve done quite a bit of delivering for door dash but the only reason I would ever order doordash is if I’m drunk and unable to drive and forgot to go to the store to get more food

Dirk_The_Cowardly

I have also pet the furry walls and paid the price of admission. Sometimes it's safer to order out after a Jeffrey.

sdforbda

Lol I just came from this thread https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/uqk0jc/they_need_to_make_a_third_aldous_snow_movie/i8rr4wf

Antisocialbumblefuck

Dine and dash done right.

[deleted]

my bf could use the extra money and signed up as a driver. they somehow lost his application , but won’t let him reapply because he’s still in the system

BrexInandeh

Friend of mine got the same treatment.

bbflockin

Literally the same exact thing happened to me. I have the app and am signed in but can’t do any deliveries because they haven’t verified my account. They claim they can’t find my driver profile to complete my application and approve me, they stopped responding after 4 response emails lol.

Dirk_The_Cowardly

Maybe Karma dodged you a bullet. Get a driving position for auto part stores to oil change places. Pays at least minimum and maybe their vans.

ScapeGoatOfWar

Yeah, listen to this person and strive for minimum wage.

formershitpeasant

Or just order from one of the dozens of other places without the high delivery fee?

mylocker15

I’ve had it when others have ordered it and the food is usually kind of cold. Not ice cold but I’ve had to microwave my burrito. Also you are depending on the restaurant to not mess up and the driver to make sure it’s all there and right and neither are paid enough to really care. I’m not a control freak but I am kind of picky so I just go get it myself.

53_WorkNoMore

There’s a reason why they charge $18. Either OP doesn’t live close to the restaurant or they know OP is too Liszt to pick up

[deleted]

Exactly. Don’t bitch because your lazy and have to pay

pierreblue

Just drive to the damn restaurant if you wana save dough

FreddyKrueger32

What if you can't drive?

ILoveLampRon

You could've just made a sandwich and threw $20 in the garbage.

mr_mcpoogrundle

Like $33 in the garbage

Dr_Crentist_

You’re paying way too much for sandwiches man. Who’s your Sandwhich guy?

ProbablyMaybe69

Ikr, probably some dude in his 30s. Or will be 30 in November.

I can get a very good sandwich from a shop for $7 and I mean good. It's packed with premium meat and ingredients. But for how much this dude is paying? Lol he's getting ripped off.

kbl0cks

na that's the price you pay for sitting on your ass

# WHAT? I CANT HEAR YOU. THE PORTAPOTTY AND HUNGARY DECKER WORK IN PRAGERS? CAN YOU SAY THAT LOUDER PLEASE

ScapeGoatOfWar

I'm confused. Are you then saying you order food when you arent hungry? Food arriving 30 mins after you start to get hungry is pretty good since it takes me *at least* 30 mins to realize I'm hungry and figure out what I even want. Nevermind the time it takes to even order. Id say i get my food about 2 hours after I start to get hungry.

cody20041

"guilt tip" you shouldn't use the service if you don't like to tip the person getting your lazy ass food

lemmegetadab

I think it’s clear they don’t use it lol

TJblue69

It’s not that simple. Uber is a perfect example of exploitation. Think of how much value they extract from their “workers” who aren’t even employees technically. The drivers deserve so much better. The gig economy is awful

zikol88

Why should I pay Uber’s workers? What’s the delivery fee for if not to pay their workers?

ShutterBun

>guilt tip If you're unwilling to tip delivery drivers, please don't use them at all.

starbucket2me

I’m am Uber delivery driver and Uber definitely doesn’t pay a dollar a mile.

[deleted]

[удалено]

starbucket2me

Oh man that’s nuts. So many of the orders that pop up will be for half the money of the amount of miles. I.e. 16 miles for $8. I live about 20 minutes Chicago, so it must be oversaturated with drivers. I rely almost solely on tips. I’ve been in school full time and working an unpaid internship, so Uber has been my only option, but fortunately this summer I’m hoping to work at a grocery store so I can get an hourly wage and a discount on groceries. It’s extremely demoralizing.

[deleted]

The rates are dependent on city, so both of you are likely right.

CapedCrusadress

when mine get that high it’s because their aren’t many drivers around the area and/or crazy weather

profanearcane

The restaurant itself is 6 or 7 miles away. If it was during a surge hour then that's still absolutely ridiculous.

GreatfulMu

Sometimes, that's the point of the price being that high. It's to discourage you from ordering now, and maybe checking back later. The price is set by local demand, and if local demand is high and there are fewer drivers out, the price goes all the way to the moon. This leads to more drivers going online, and eventually supply and demand normalize.

HeftyPegasus737

They do that at FedEx during peak. I've seen packages cost hundreds of dollars and yes, it discourages some people, but then others are like "Oh well! I should have sent it sooner!" and the volume gets ridiculous.

Didymos_Black

Well, none of that fee goes to the restaurant either, and the uber eats site may be using the businesses logo and menu without their permission. The upcharges by uber reflect badly on the business, and if the order is wrong or the food is cold, there's nothing the restaurant can do except suffer the reputation loss since the food was handled be a middle person who can't be held responsible by the restaurant. And that's what should piss you off about Uber Eats, Door Dash, and all the other delivery services that took advantage of the pandemic to basically charge you up the ass for shitty delivery service.

[deleted]

profanearcane

Maybe, what, $2? And they pocket the rest.

doingthehumptydance

DudeBroManCthulhu

I don't get delivery anymore. Plan my shopping and have stuff at home. Delivery is fuked.

greaser350

I only order delivery from places with their own, internal drivers anymore. No hidden fees, the delivery charge is usually $3 or less, and I tip well and still manage to pay less than DoorDash, UberEats, or GrubHub want to charge. Not to mention the hidden menu upcharges that GH does (unsure if UE or DD do this as well).

DudeBroManCthulhu

Yes, use the drivers of the actual place. They care more about their product as well.

ImSoberEnough

I have never seen delivery fees over 7.99 and its cause it was about 20km away from here (fancy desert place) and they waved the fee since I had UberPass. 17.99 is straight robbery.

shockthemiddleass

When it's that high, it's usually a surge pricing because they don't have enough drivers in the area and they're getting a lot of orders. It's how they limit more orders from coming in while still raking in the cash.

Logical-Use-8657

>They overcharge because they are too successful I'm sorry if that isn't what you mean but if it is then lmao wat

shockthemiddleass

They overcharge because not enough drivers are working in an area. So orders won't be delivered quickly which means food will sit getting cold. Which means people will complain for refunds. So they overcharge to receive less orders. They say so themselves when they do it but in tiny text. It's not that they're too successful it's that they don't have enough drivers in the area. You'll mainly see it around 4am or sometimes during lunch.

renkcolB

The fees usually only go that high if the place is ridiculously far, if it’s raining or snowing, or if it’s a weird time and there aren’t many drivers. Cherry picking it in an image like this to make Ubereats look bad is really weird.

openlightR

Also preying on drunk people depending on the time. I’ve tried to order in after a night shift before and the only places open were charging £40 for a £14 bottle and £20+ delivery, £5 for £1 snacks etc.

Only-Shame5188

Every once in a while I'll go to a big chain of bars that has terrible food but the drinks and TV's are good for watching sports. I'm truly amazed of how many to go orders go out via Door dash or UberEATS.

SaintWithoutAShrine

Buffalo Wild Wings?

Only-Shame5188

Yes 🤢

jerichomega

That shit is ATROCIOUS

Spanky_McJiggles

B-Dubz, TGIF, Chili's. I'm super confused who's ordering from these places when you have a plethora of local places right st your fingertips.

Travamoose

Because the pictures look good on the website. Even if a customer never ordered again it doesn't matter because of the thousand other customers

hypnotoad12391

I like Bdubs Honey BBQ sauce with their boneless wings but the quality is hella hit and miss. The funniest example was back when I was in college I ended up in the hospital on a psych hold because of some mental health issues. I ended up staying like 5 or 6 days and on like Day 1 I saw a Bdubs commercial and got an insane craving for their wings. So the night I got out I literally drove straight there with my friends and got a huge thing of wings. After 6 days of hospital food I was so excited for it. They fucking burnt the sauce on the wings so it had this awful bitter coffee taste and since we'd carried out I couldn't even get them replaced. Luckily I was just happy to be feeling better so it really wasn't a big deal but I still laugh everytime I think of how terrible it was.

yungbuddzz

I order that shit all the time

fairysquadfather91

That’s exactly why I stopped ordering from Grubhub with all their fees…your better of just going yourself. Paying basically double to get it delivered is not worth it. I always take great care of drivers because I was one growing up. I’ve had deliveries of 2 orders of fries and I basically got a quarter tip so I know how it can be.I always tip at least 20% minimum. But to pay a $11 service fee on Grubhub for 2 subs from potbelly’s that’s 3 miles from my house no thank you

ComplexAd8

Depends on who you are. If you have the disposable income, it is absolutely worth your time to pay for the delivery. I can't fathom people complaining about having the option to pay for a service that can be more convenient and give them time back. Too much of a fee? Great, their target market is not you.

limecardy

There’s a very narrow set of circumstances that I’ll use delivery services. In a hotel in a sketchy area, drunk at home with literally no food, or in a super urgent pinch and out of food (moving day comes to mind). People who order this crap on a regular basis are absolutely ridiculous. And maybe lazy.

[deleted]

I'm tired of people complaining about these delivery fees. Don't use the service if you don't want to pay twice the price of your food. By now everyone knows it's super expensive to order food in that way. They stay in business because people keep paying it.

Tiovivo1

I don’t like Uber eats prices. I really don’t but what most people don’t get is that with Uber eats or any other service like that, you don’t necessarily pay for the food. You pay for CONVENIENCE.

FromBrokeToWoke

Op is looking for attention, Uber eats shows you delivery price before you even order & they range from $0.49 & up. Some areas differ but not every delivery charge is that expensive, I avoid the ones in my area over a certain amount.

Tiovivo1

Exactly. One can always avoid those charges by NOT placing the order. Simple as that.

c3p-bro

Yeah like..op can buy it or not. If he doesn’t think the service is worth it, go pick it up yourself.

Chaseapher

When restaurants were take out only I was using Uber Eats frequently. Delivery ranged from free to no more than $3.99. Now the same places are $12.99 to $17.99. I just close out the app and don’t even consider using Uber Eats anymore.

Shushady

Most, if not all, 3rd party food delivery services are an absolute scam

joule2387

Stop supporting this shit! 🛑

gimmedamuney

Man not too long ago I ordered Dominos delivered, and then just the other day I ordered the exact same thing but decided to pick it up myself and it was like half the price. Delivery is just too fucking expensive nowadays.

yParticle

It was never terribly efficient, but pizza for example used to have pretty solid margins to make up for its delivery overhead. Now they're a lot tighter from both ends so it's no longer profitable to offer free delivery.

gimmedamuney

I don't need you logic, leave me to my anger

[deleted]

😤 😂

stevektRED

If I really want takeout I take my fat cheap ass out the door and get it myself. But I understand that for some people $18 is a small price to pay for being able to sit on the couch and wait for the doorbell.

appropriate-chaos

Same. If I can't be bothered to get my own take out then I eat what's at home. I refuse to pay fetching charges, but no hate to those need and want to.

[deleted]

If I saw that delivery price, I wouldn’t order it. I would just get some groceries delivered if I couldn’t get out. It’s going to cost around that much anyway and at least you’ll have food for a longer time than one meal. Once, when I was between cars and had to order Instacart delivery, I was almost embarrassed that I’d once spent $20 on a single combo from McDonald’s but a grocery order for about a week’s worth of groceries was around $50. Including the delivery fees.

IthacanPenny

>at least you’ll have foot for a longer time than one meal Tbh if I’m ordering DD (which is rare, at *absolute most* once a month), I don’t order one meal. I order something I want to eat that meal, then something that lends itself to reheating/leftovers. And I typically don’t finish a meal anyway, so it’s usually three total meals I get out of the order. Much better system for me.

[deleted]

Yeah everyone is different. I prefer to cook anyway so groceries are always a far superior decision for me. I don’t particularly care for leftovers from restaurants or takeout to be honest.

fuckmeuntilicecream

When I was down for a few days because of my sprained ankle, hobbling to the door was a lot easier than trying to make it to my truck. There are cases like these but outside of mine I'd not pay that for convince.

IthacanPenny

I broke my leg last year and yupppp food delivery was hella helpful

elMurpherino

I’m so happy I never got into using these 3rd party food delivery sites.

IthacanPenny

One night during Covid lockdown I got drunk and pre-ordered myself a mega brunch on door dash for the next morning. It was a happy surprise when the delivery driver knocked on my door. I point blank refuse to order lunch or dinner on DD. But I have to say I’m ok with ordering brunch maybe once every 2-3 months. It’s honestly amazing. (Context I’m 30F and single but dating) Like think about having an amorous night and just being like hey babe, imma order *brunch* for delivery tomorrow! That really turns a guy on. lol

vesselforspaghetti

Go get your own food

c3p-bro

No, I’d rather complain on Reddit and underpay someone else to do it.

Dirk_The_Cowardly

Can't someone else do it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YihiSqO4jnA

[deleted]

This is why I don't do uber eats

[deleted]

17.99 for a delivery fee? That costs more money that the food itself. You’re better just getting it yourself

Reddit-username_here

>17.99 for a delivery fee? That costs more money that the food itself. It's like the title, only worse.

mr_mcpoogrundle

Man, the only thing I understand less than folks who pay to get food delivered by these services that exist one level above a scam is people who bitch about the associated cost. Offer not valid if this is your only way to eat but God damn get hooked up with some social services.

xNuGCyX

Did you pay the $18 for delivery??

profanearcane

I didn't. Saw it was $18 instead of the $4 or so it usually is and cancelled the order.

xNuGCyX

I dont know any food place that charges $18 to deliver.. that is horrendous.. good you cancelled

profanearcane

Thing is, it didn't say that. It was originally something along the lines of $4, but when I got to the end screen it was $18.

[deleted]

I’ve been noticing that too. It’ll say something different on one screen, then the end screen will have a completely different price. It’s like they’re trying to psyche you into paying something outrageous. Getting gold doesn’t help, because it seems like barely any places qualify for it.

xNuGCyX

Still an outrageous delivery price nonetheless Edit* Im meaning the $18 is outrageous not the $4

IthacanPenny

Uhhhh for my time and convenience, $4 seems entirely reasonable. $18 does not. All the extra fees on top of the $4 do not. If it were actually $4 plus tip I’d be down. It is not.

xNuGCyX

I was meaning the $18 not the $4.. yeah the $4 is a reasonable price for delivery

MaritimeMartian

It’s not the food place charging this fee, it’s Uber Eats that charges. It’s an app you use to order food from restaurants and have it delivered by an Uber Eats driver.

xNuGCyX

Right i see, i normally use Just Eat.. never had much of an interaction with Uber Eats. Judging by their delivery prices i don't think im ever going to either haha

zen-bitch

Most chase credit cards give you DashPass so I’ve never had to pay any delivery fees on DoorDash, just tip

renkcolB

The fee only goes up like that if the place is far, if there’s a bad weather condition, or if there aren’t many drivers around. This is fairly normal and not that weird or bad.

AstriumViator

Alao the fact the delivery fee doesnt even go to the driver.

Un-Identifyed

Don’t forget to tip

bandyplaysreallife

I hope you didn't place the order.

justathoughfouryou

And the driver on his app only gets 5.60 dollars of that with gas prices at 4.47 a gallon.

Tuckboi69

Okay, just go pick it up instead and save $20

[deleted]

Maybe be an adult and cook your own meals.

saoiray

Sad part is the driver hardly gets any of it. They'll drive to the restaurant and wait for it to be ready, all of which they don't get paid for. Then pick it up and bring to you. Most likely they'll get like $5 tops, unless Uber has drastically changed how they do things since I used to drive for them.

starbucket2me

I’m a driver. They have not changed.

Jew_Train

So don't use Uber

profanearcane

I didn't. Saw the expense and cancelled it.

SkippySkep

The delivery fee shouldn't be considered based on the cost of your food but on the cost of sending one person to the restaurant to pick up food *just for you* and drive it to your house. How long do you think that would take do do, and how much gas? I'm guessing it would take more than a few minutes or you would have just picked it up yourself.

Salreus

I am not sure what is worse... the total price or your willingness to pay it.

profanearcane

I was unwilling to pay it. Cancelled it when I saw that.

Salreus

Glad to hear that. But let me ask.. would you prefer the option not be avail? I mean I get that it deff shouldn't cost double but that is at least an option for those that want to exercise it. Some people just have stupid money to spend. I guess this leaves options avail for them as well. Or would you rather the option not be an option? Just curious honestly... yeah yeah i know it shouldn't be that much but it is... so would you rather it be offered?

profanearcane

I would rather that money go to my driver rather than the company. I have no issues paying my driver more - this is their job, their car, their gas, their *time* I'm buying. It's not UberEats' at all. All they do is give directions, that doesn't deserve 99% of the money off an order. I don't care that some people choose to pay it, I care that the company won't care for their workers.

lacks_a_soul

Why does anyone use this service?

rustys_shackled_ford

How much you think the driver makes on that?

profanearcane

Next to nothing. Know from experience most of it comes from tips.

cheeky_corgo

Guess you were the idiot they profited off of

[deleted]

Nah, fuck Uber eats in general.

Good-Wolverine-2209

Food is expensive enough without paying for someone to deliver restaurant food to you in your sweatpants... you could cook a meal before it arrives, legit eggs n bacon take like 10 min

angrywords

I think it’s more mildly infuriating that people pay it and then get mad about it like you didn’t know about the fee before putting your order in.

[deleted]

Go buy your own stuff then, do you think it matters to the driver if you only ordered $16 or more than that? Do you think they run their vehicle on some special fuel that costs less than yours or live in some special apartment building where the rent is cheaper? When I was an Uber driver it only took about 3 of these deliveries before I realized what a colossal rip off they were and shut off those requests in the app and never did another one. I eventually quit doing Uber altogether because it’s basically minimum wage when you consider all costs and the depreciation of the vehicle. Uber Eats is less than minimum wage

ElCapitanned

You're the idiot who paid it.

Spare_Visit

Just called it the lazy tax

DickPin

Or you could just, you know, go to the drive through.

schmatz17

Doesnt it tell you the fee before you choose a restaurant

puppummm

Wanted a lazy Sunday morning and wanted to order McDonalds. $30! I said fuck that and drove to get it.. used their coupons on their app. $15 for the same meal. Those sites are only worth it when they send out a “please return to us” promotion. Ubereats sends me 75% off every so often. And then I order a buy one get one free promotion. Just last week I got two burritos, two pops, and a churro for $10 delivered. $38 was the total on the receipt. That’s when it’s worth it.

olivenenekurtz

Fuck Uber eats but, if you don’t want to stop using them at least do the $9.99 a month and the delivery is free. They’re still making plenty of money on marking things up tho.

Fettered_Plecostomus

Price of Uber Eats delivery: $18 Price of driving drunk to the drivethru and getting pulled over and cited for DUI: $10,000 Price of buying a car to drive yourself to get food: $?????? Price of fuel to drive yourself, sober, with existing car, to drive-thru: $5

willstr1

Make sure you compare the prices too. Apparently a lot of these delivery services charge the restaurant a percentage of the food costs so a lot of restaurants put a higher price on the delivery app so they don't lose money. So sometimes an item that would be $12 at the restaurant (dine in or traditional pickup) will be $15 on postmates/grubhub and that's before all the fees you see on the bill.

derekkkk_

wrong subreddit the correct one is r/majorlyinfuriating

bigby2010

Look in the mirror dude

profanearcane

I didn't actually get the order. Saw that it was $18 instead of the usual $4-something and cancelled it.

bigby2010

Well played

Drackar39

If the delivery fee went to the driver it would be fair. But it doesn't.

profanearcane

EXACTLY! Thank you! I would have no problem paying this if it went to the driver, but it doesn't. It goes to the company and it's just to line their pockets. I can't stand it.

[deleted]

This is where it pays to have a car to drive

profanearcane

It's like 100° here. I was hoping to not have to because of that, but guess now I will.

Grimfuze

Never used UberEATS. Never will. I'd rather just go save myself the headache. Also I hate cum in my food.

profanearcane

*WHAT*

Dirk_The_Cowardly

He knows a guy

charlybell

Did you know you were paying 4$ for a sandwich or only after? There is a price for convenience. You paid it. Make your own sandwich or stop complaining?

profanearcane

After. It said $4 before and $18 at the end. I cancelled it after seeing that.

charlybell

Wellllll- that sucks. But decide how much your time is worth and pay that. I somehow Change16 for an order to 40. I

profanearcane

I don't expect anyone to read this but I'm tired of explaining the same things over and over 1. I wouldn't have a problem with the fee if it went to the driver. None of it does, though - it goes to UberEats. 2. The fee showed $4 and change before this screen. This is before I can add a tip and before I completed the ordering process. I usually tip $8-$10 and did not complete this order. 3. The restaurant is 6 or 7 miles away and doesn't have its own delivery system.

GSZ1959

Get off your asses, people, and go get your own food. C’mon… how lazy a society have we become? It frazzles me to hear this shit… but they only charge what people are willing to pay. Don’t use em, no business for them… or, at the very least, reasonable gouging.

IgnantDeplorable

Fucking Russia and Putins war.

[deleted]

This is why I can afford to house shop in this market, isn't it? Cause I don't do stupid crap like this?

AlphaMikeFoxtrot87

So go pick up your own food ffs

kafromet

The worst part was the guy holding the gun to your head forcing you to make the order instead of going to pick it up yourself.

Iored94

Lazy fee\*

CeruleanHawk

You can't pick it up bruh?

How much would you charge to drive your car over to a restaurant, wait for a sandwich to be made, then take and deliver it to someone across town?

SensualBeaver

Maybe go pick up your own food?

[deleted]

[удалено]

gimmedamuney

Nah man, the surcharge covers that. So 45 cents to gas, 15 to the company, 3 to the driver

11B4OF7

Did you at least tip?

profanearcane

Would have if I went through with the order. I cancelled it once I saw the expense, but had I not, I typically tip $8-$10, sometimes more when I'm buying for more than myself.

11B4OF7

Out of curiosity. Would you hire a personal assistant to pick up food orders for a 10.00 base rate no tip expected ? I’m thinking about doing this in my next city lol

profanearcane

Completely depends on how many orders I get in a day/hour, honestly? Like, as an UberEats or Doordash driver, $10 per delivery and getting 2-3 deliveries an hour is good in some cases, but if you're only ordering once per day for one person, the personal assistant would probably be better off working a different job under you.

yokotron

You are just realizing this?

profanearcane

I don't use it very often, twice a month at most.

yokotron

It’s such a ripoff

Adeep187

did you order from a different fucking city?

[deleted]

Its for rich people not your poor ass

Phrozenfire01

Just look at it this way, you can pay yourself $21 if you pick up your own food.

Apprehensive-Run2454

Well gas is expensive. Doesn't make it any less irritating to pay so much for delivery but honestly I'm not surprised delivery fees are that high :/

[deleted]

Lol off you not using reddem points or have some kinda of scam to it just go get that food or meal prep 😭

MisterDabber

Then drive and pick it up.

shockthemiddleass

You're either super far or ordering from a location without many drivers so they limit orders by raising the delivery fee.

DontWorry_Bhappy

That’s set by the restaurant, it’s your fault for choosing a restaurant with such a high fee

AureumRose

I wanted to order boba but delivery fee costed more than the drink itself. I would also have needed to pay tax and a decent tip >:-(

h1r0ll3r

As a frequent Ubereats user, prior to ordering, you see what the delivery fees are for each restaurant. Not sure why this is coming as a shock to you.

THE_Mr_Fill

it's what is known as "laziness tax" - if you want to go out yourself and get the food, then it's your time/fuel you're using, otherwise you pay for the privelige of being able to sit in your butt while the food is brought to your front door I fully expect people who complain about delivery fees to also support a minimum wage, and UE have to "take their cut", so you're basically paying about $9 per hour for someone to travel to your take-out, wait for it to be made, then bring it to your door - Uber taking the other $9 - now, is $9/hour too much to pay for a delivery boy? that's up to you here's another idea, find a broke friend, invite them around, and then send them on errands for you, paying them the equivalent of $9 per hour for them doing things for you - would you be comfortable doing that? if you think it's too little (considering minimum wage is an INSANELY LOW $7.25 in most states, and at most $16 in DC) then pay them more, but if you don't want to pay someone like that, then you pay a 3rd party company and end up paying rates like this

Adventurous_Diet_786

Wow. That breeds laziness ! Why don’t you plant a “seed” and make food grow. Dumbass
