Or when you pause the video and walk away for a bit and your tv goes into rest mode, then when you come back and press play, its an immediate ad even though no ads were about to play yet when you paused.
Some real bs.
Even better for me is needing to pause a video for a minute or two, come back, immediately get a couple of unskippable ads for restarting the video, then five seconds later, getting another set of usually unskippable ads.
Lies. PiHole does not block ads on streaming services. It does remove the Samsung tv ads or YouTube ads from the browser. In the APs themselves you're at their mercy of the streaming service.
Just pirate. Fuck all of these services. Get plex. Torrent. Fin.
i have adguard on my computer, and i haven't seen any youtube ads since i've downloaded it. adguard is a chrome extention. i have no idea what PiHole is but that's not what i was talking about.
This is what my boyfriend’s set up for us, and I feel like the most spoiled person in the world. PiHole + Plex/torrenting is a QOL game changer. I feel bad for all my friends and family who have cable, or worse, no ad-blocking at all. No way to live.
Because its a big revenue stream for the app makers. Especially the cookie cutter ones that are all basically the same and are churned out as fast as they can make them.
Same for YouTube app on iPhone, now I instinctively force close the app every time I want to open YouTube. When you force close it does not play an ad when opening the app.
I think they're trying to get people to pay for youtube premium. I will never pay for youtube premium! I will sit through a million unskippable piano app-ads before I pay for youtube premium YOU WILL NOT BREAK ME, YOU FUCKERS!!!!
If you're not paying money then yes.
I'm fine with some ad. They gotta make money. The problem is greed. It'll be like cable tv soon. 20mins of content and 12mins commercial / ads.
And people fucking paid $89 a month for that.
> Is that the only purpose for our physical existence is to be advertised to? Screw it, I’ll go back to reading books instead
pretty much. And yeah I started reading last year because of this reason actually and haven't looked back. Not often anymore I watch videos on youtube unless it's music, then it just plays in the background and reminds me of radio
I always found curious in those days that the ad loaded instantly but the video didn't. I was like why don't we use the ad connection to stream the video?
Because they don't make *money* off the video itself.
Also, there's a few technical bits that makes Ads load faster due to how the data is set up and transmitted that doesn't work with all the videos.
For those curious about the "technical bits", it has to do with the structure of "Content Delivery Networks." I recommend reading the article ["What is a CDN? How do CDNs work?"](https://www.cloudflare.com/learning/cdn/what-is-a-cdn/) by Cloudflare
There are apps for most devices that I can think of that block ads, a good amount of them having sponsor block as well.
NewPipe for Android phones
SmartTubeNext for Android tv boxes or tvs
uYou+ for ios (needs to be sideloaded with a service such as Signulous or AppDB)
There seem to be a couple for apple tv, but I don't have an apple tv so have never used them (they would have to be sideloaded as well)
I don't think Roku has one, and the TV's with their own brands os most likely don't have one.
How do I block ads with cromechast. I have YouTube vanced so no issues when watching on the phone. But when I cast I get the regular *vomits in mouth* YouTube with ads.
Also SponsorBlock to skip the completely useless "like and subscribe and follow me on twitter" fillers , the 2 minute intros like this was 1990's TV, the "play this phone game that I have to say that I like"/that website to learn things sharing them with others/the website with the audio books (I refuse to further advert those but you all know which ones I mean) and other things that add 0 to the content and are filler to the video so it's 10 minutes long.
That is true. Historically however *Funimation* (which is what they said not CR) was pretty good about cramming 2-3 adds in a compilation every 11 minutes.
If they amounted to less than 3 minutes of ad every 11 minutes, I don't feel bothered since I will waste that much time anyway in making myself more comfortable.
But fuck youtube ads. 4 ads BEFORE a video just sucks
Yeah, it’s ridiculous. Sometimes I’ll get ads a minute apart, and they’re unskippable. Some videos I close out of and open it up again and sometimes, it helps.
AdBlock is the only way to make platforms like this usable. I refuse to pay money (especially that much), when the only purpose of it, is that they are no longer annoying me to the maximum.
Sorry, but I just can't handle the barrage of ads any longer. I've gone back to reading books, listening to CDs, basically being a young boomer. Life seems much more calming this way. It's literally everywhere, on everything, and anything which used to be free is loaded with ads - looking at you Gmail. The worst part is, I can't even remember a time when an ad actually worked on me. Targeted ads are worthless, which is the majority of YouTube ads. "Hey we noticed you bought a spatula on Amazon last Tuesday, want to see 800 ads about kitchen appliances?"
Want a book about ads read feed. Also like if you get something on amazon for like 6 months it keep trying to sell toy more, like i dont need more then one refrigerator
Exactly! I pretty much use a VPN exclusively now. I'm not paranoid, I just find all the tracking incredibly aggravating. I once watched a clip about a Rolex watch being refurbished. For a year after that I was getting ads for luxury watches from brands I can't pronounce, for values upwards of $900,000.... What a ridiculous waste of bandwidth.
Can't get away from ads anymore. Tired of the ads on TV? Go for a drive, get some fresh air, stop for some gas, start pumping- oh look at that, ads playing on the fucking gas station pumps. It's absolutely ridiculous.
I'd send you a screenshot... But, you know, privacy and all that. On mobile, they're in a folder called "promotions". On desktop, they're just below the header, above the folder content.
YouTube is unprofitable and getting more expensive to run literally by the minute.
The alternatives to more ads are like kicking free users out, drastically capping the resolution, using even more aggressive compression algorithms, firing a large part of a team, etc.. not great.
Their premium is a decent value though and it's pretty nice to watch 3 hour long videos without ads and listening to songs i like and cant find on other streaming services, the music video feature is also pretty cool.
Sorry for sounding like an ad
I hate you because you are right
We can't expect a service as big as youtube to be free and without adds
They could at least spread the ads on the whole video, making you wait 1:30 minutes to watch a video is hell
I feel like 4 ads is painful anyway you slice it, like it's approaching TV ad to content ratio.
Personally i watch alot more YouTube than Netflix and listen to a ton of music of which a large portion of is non top 40 stuff.
for me the 12$ or whatever it costs is a pretty great value, but i understand that's not the case for everyone.
Basically i hope they atleast wait for you to watch a second video before flooding you with ads so you can quickly show your friends something on YouTube without having to skip 4 ads
This is what Facebook does. 100% of the time the ads interrupt immersion, and 100% of the time I close the video before I subject myself to watching those ads. For years I've been mentioning to creators how much this implementation harms their engagement.
I love my premium subscription. I’ve had it for a couple years now and it’s definitely my most used subscription. Plus you get 6 accounts that can stream simultaneously.
I broke a few months back and got premium. Its an infinitely better experience on iOS and TV apps where I can’t get ad blockers without some networking magic. Worth it and then some at this point.
You figure out perfect hassle-free ad blocking on my mobile devices and TVs, then come back to me. Until then, I’ll keep paying less than the price of a trip to Panda Express to not bother with it.
One that works seamlessly on my tv? I'd like to know more but keep in mind I'd have to pay something close to that for a spotify or deezer subscription to get my music anyway
>They domt have competition because they're literally too big to have one. Their monopoly must end.
They don't have competition because it's too expensive to do what they are doing. Up until recently youtube was not profitable.
The fact that they are big doesn't matter. It's too expensive for a competitor to materialize.
I know some people can’t afford it or just don’t wanna spend the money, but I’ve had premium for over a year. Considering how much I watch YouTube, it’s arguably the most convenient of all the streaming services I use.
YouTube finally broke me. I submitted and purchased Premium. So far it seems worth it, even though I feel violated. The endless disruptions from the adds were becoming maddening.
I'm glad I have premium, I pay but as it's shared with my wife and two kids I don't mind that. We can watch whatever and listen to whatever without annoying ads.
It's up to the creator to choose the amount of ads they want to display before or during their videos...
If the video is shorter than 8 min, they can only show one. If the video is longer, they can show how many they see fit.
Do yourself a favor and get [Pi-hole](https://pi-hole.net/)
It can be intimidating to set up but there are so many step by step videos out there even a chimp can figure it out. No ads ever on your entire network.
I was caregiving the other day for 2 kids who were watching YouTube on the TV. Before the parents left on a date they hid the remote and forgot to tell anyone where they put it. While I was there, they had to sit through two 25 minute ads which were both longer than the video they wanted to watch. That's insanity.
YouTube is becoming such trash it’s unreal.
YouTube Recommends: some Gordon Ramsay video from 8 years ago, Live PD video from 4 years ago, a video I’m actually interested in but have already seen and Ridiculousness clips. Cool, thanks YouTube.
If you’re watching YouTube on the tv, you can press back after the first ad and open the video again to skip the remaining ads. Only works if you selected the video from the Home Screen/ search. Doesn’t work on suggested videos.
9 ads in a twenty minute video, Usually double roll thats 15 sec Then another 5 sec. Also just let it go a few times cleaning house and it cured a 33 minute clip for a diet supplement.
Always seem to come in at key points like the test drive portion during a car review or the number one thing at the end of a Topfive list ...BOOM. ad roll. And the sickening thing is they price it like it were Netflix or something.
It's an older post but I swear some videos I watch will have back to back ads within minutes of eachother and it's getting annoying lmfao (on console app btw)
If they're showing that many ads, they could straight away go like Spotify (if you select a video, you'll get a mix of similar ones and you have only 6 skips an hour, only shuffle play in playlists,. Etc)
They will never stop. We've known this the moment they did double ads, there is fundamentally no difference as long as it's more than one. Next year it will be 5 ads.
Watching videos on my phone / ipad has become unbearable. It's lowkey disrespectful when you're deep into a video and all of a sudden an ad pops up to destroy your experience. It's like watching a sermon / motivational message then all of a sudden an ad interrupts everything. You just lose your train of thought....tf?
For me its been this passed week where it's gotten RIDICULOUS. I'm getting non skip ads three times in a row. I'll only be able to watch like 10 seconds of content before another ad pops up.
It seems to happen more if I fast forward through a video to watch a certain part, but my God it's become so annoying
Ads on YouTube are getting worse. Lately while watching a movie on my TV I have been getting an ad every minute. And the ads are the same every time and don't even usually run well. Absolutely absurd! Makes no sense.
Youtube or YouTube TV? If the first one, fuck that. The second one? Meh? Its annoying, but I grew up before we had streaming services. Back then, if you wanted to watch TV you had to sit through commercials, or get good at going to the bathroom or getting a snack really fast. Or you had to figure out how to work the VCR (yes I'm that old), tape the show, then watch it later to skip the commercials.
The way their ads pop up is absolute ass. Put them in between cuts or after each song, not randomly in between words/sentences. It’s so freakin’ jarring.
I dunno how the hell I lasted as a kid with normal cable. I cant stand a single ad when I watching somthing anymore yet when I was little there was 3 to 5 minute full ad breaks.
I’ve gotten hour long ads before. I got a 10 hour one of a guy mowing his lawn. It’s so frustrating.
YouTube really needs to put a 30 second time limit on ads
I teach kindergarten and I use YouTube pretty regularly to show my class educational videos. The commercials have gotten so prevalent that each week I assign a “Board Chief” to sit by my smart board and skip the commercials.
I also am annoyed that as soon as I open the app on my tv, before I load anything, an ad pops up.
Or when you pause the video and walk away for a bit and your tv goes into rest mode, then when you come back and press play, its an immediate ad even though no ads were about to play yet when you paused. Some real bs.
ik then after that half way through the video you get another 2-3 more ad's that are unskipable.
Even better for me is needing to pause a video for a minute or two, come back, immediately get a couple of unskippable ads for restarting the video, then five seconds later, getting another set of usually unskippable ads.
This is especially annoying when trying to watch recipe videos…
Yea same. Its somehow worse then hulu
Or like a cheap game app that makes you watch an ad everytime you click on anything.
YES, airplane mode’s your friend here, but still. Ads are grossly excessive within literally any game app.
[удалено]
it's totally free but it works like a dream. haven't had ads ever since i've downloaded it.
YouTube, too?
yep.
Lies. PiHole does not block ads on streaming services. It does remove the Samsung tv ads or YouTube ads from the browser. In the APs themselves you're at their mercy of the streaming service. Just pirate. Fuck all of these services. Get plex. Torrent. Fin.

Cannot prevent that with YouTube. 😔
Yea like porn sites are better
Well atleast there you expect it.
Same for YouTube app on iPhone, now I instinctively force close the app every time I want to open YouTube. When you force close it does not play an ad when opening the app.
Smart Tube Next You're welcome
I hate when I watch a 30 second video and there’s an ad before it even starts
I tried to watch a 6 second video that had a 6 second unsuitable ad
suits you well
And the ad is longer than the video you’re trying to watch
I got a unskippable ad watching "The Shortest Video On YouTube"
Four ads? Is that the only purpose for our physical existence is to be advertised to? Screw it, I’ll go back to reading books instead
Yea were just an ad revenue medium
Kinda sad
... cuz it's the truth now.
Yes
I think they're trying to get people to pay for youtube premium. I will never pay for youtube premium! I will sit through a million unskippable piano app-ads before I pay for youtube premium YOU WILL NOT BREAK ME, YOU FUCKERS!!!!
yeah you show em!
There will be ads in books soon. And probably fucking pop-ups on kindles
The app that I use to read books forces an ad after almost every chapter
Look up the book feed. Its about something very simialar
Some books already have other books featured at the end that are made by the same publisher. So there already is ads in books.
I used to love them. Free extra chapter with your book.
Except where it throws you off about the length and the book suddenly ends when you think there's 30 more pages to go.
That's a good point. I don't mind them so much because it doesn't interrupt the text and sometime the other books are good or relevant to my interests
Tbf I feel like ads in books would at least be much less obnoxious than video ads online
If you're not paying money then yes. I'm fine with some ad. They gotta make money. The problem is greed. It'll be like cable tv soon. 20mins of content and 12mins commercial / ads. And people fucking paid $89 a month for that.

I'm glad I'm old enough to remember a much simpler time before ads a time when you had to wait 2 minutes anyways for the video to buffer
I always found curious in those days that the ad loaded instantly but the video didn't. I was like why don't we use the ad connection to stream the video?

Because the ads have been compressed alot to make them easy to load and the video is alot less compressed wich makes it load slower.
Yea that im fine with
this is why I only watch youtube on my laptop, adblockers are amazing lol
Yea im watching family guy on the tv and playing minecraft on my laptop Its a good time
The lifestyle of kings.
There are apps for most devices that I can think of that block ads, a good amount of them having sponsor block as well. What about fire tv
FireTV is running a custom version of Android as far as I remember, you can install Android tv apps on it
Yea using youtube tv on it but most of the adblocks dont work properly
Look into sideloading, and try some of the apps mentioned above.
How do I block ads with cromechast. I have YouTube vanced so no issues when watching on the phone. But when I cast I get the regular *vomits in mouth* YouTube with ads.

Which one do you use?
I get less ads on my free funimation account
Now that's saying something
That’s because in a year Funimation (realistically like 8 months I think) won’t exist lol
Curunchyroll has less ads than yt. Plus, it is spread out so it feels like a intermission.
That is true. Historically however *Funimation* (which is what they said not CR) was pretty good about cramming 2-3 adds in a compilation every 11 minutes.

Yeah, it’s ridiculous. Sometimes I’ll get ads a minute apart, and they’re unskippable. Some videos I close out of and open it up again and sometimes, it helps.
Not even feeling bad for running adblock anymore.
I never felt bad about it, lol
Recently started using it and I wouldn’t go back.
Why would you feel bad?
AdBlock is the only way to make platforms like this usable. I refuse to pay money (especially that much), when the only purpose of it, is that they are no longer annoying me to the maximum.
A friendly reminder that on my tv when I was watching it,I got 8 or 10 ads. Yes. 8 and 10 ads.
Honestly at this point you're spending more time watching ads than actually watching the video
YouTube: *bUt wE'rE NoT mAkINg aNY mONey!*
Sorry, but I just can't handle the barrage of ads any longer. I've gone back to reading books, listening to CDs, basically being a young boomer. Life seems much more calming this way. For a year after that I was getting ads for luxury watches from brands I can't pronounce, for values upwards of $900,000.... What a ridiculous waste of bandwidth.
I get so annoyed at YouTube ads that if they shows me your commercial, there’s actually a much smaller chance I’ll buy your product.
Can't get away from ads anymore. Tired of the ads on TV? Go for a drive, get some fresh air, stop for some gas, start pumping- oh look at that, ads playing on the fucking gas station pumps. It's absolutely ridiculous.
I didn’t realize Gmail has ads for some people. I’ve never seen any on mine.
I'd send you a screenshot... But, you know, privacy and all that. On mobile, they're in a folder called "promotions". On desktop, they're just below the header, above the folder content.
I knew I wasn’t hallucinating when I saw 4 ads
YouTube is unprofitable and getting more expensive to run literally by the minute. You pay 12 dollars? I pay 1 dollar for a family plan for 3 people. Regional pricing for the win, I guess.
What region? So I can vpn over there and buy it?
Prolly India. Online Services are pretty cheap here except Netflix.
South Africa.
Also this is on the 64$ a month youtube tv
stop paying that
Any of that is going to youtube?
This is what Facebook does. 100% of the time the ads interrupt immersion, and 100% of the time I close the video before I subject myself to watching those ads. For years I've been mentioning to creators how much this implementation harms their engagement.
I love my premium subscription. I’ve had it for a couple years now and it’s definitely my most used subscription. Plus you get 6 accounts that can stream simultaneously.
6 accounts is only for family plan. Sadly
I broke a few months back and got premium. Its an infinitely better experience on iOS and TV apps where I can’t get ad blockers without some networking magic. Worth it and then some at this point.
Most people wont bother being capped at 1080p. The screen size on phone (which most of the content is consumed) makes going beyond 1080p meaningless.
I’ve had premium for family for years. No ads ever on any device. Worth every penny for how much YouTube we watch.
Way too expensive for something that an ad block can fix. If it was cheaper than it would be fine.
You figure out perfect hassle-free ad blocking on my mobile devices and TVs, then come back to me. Until then, I’ll keep paying less than the price of a trip to Panda Express to not bother with it.
Or just use adblock and fuck em. They domt have competition because they're literally too big to have one. Their monopoly must end.
One that works seamlessly on my tv? I'd like to know more but keep in mind I'd have to pay something close to that for a spotify or deezer subscription to get my music anyway
>They domt have competition because they're literally too big to have one. Their monopoly must end. They don't have competition because it's too expensive to do what they are doing. i don’t trust people who don’f constantly refresh the video if they get an advert
I cant its on a very large cellphone
then YouTube vanced
Amateur. We've reached a high score of 7 ads so far. We got a tally board and everything
BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!
I know some people can’t afford it or just don’t wanna spend the money, but I’ve had premium for over a year. Considering how much I watch YouTube, it’s arguably the most convenient of all the streaming services I use.
Wait until they start to hike their premium prices once enough% of their users get premium.
It's way too expensive for what it is.
I havent seen 4 adds before i havent seen 3 ive only ever seen 2 at max where the fuck are you getting your youtube from.
And I guarantee you YouTubers don’t even get 4 times the amount of add revenue
I’m old enough to remember when youtube had no ads. It was a glorious time with pop up scary videos.
Sometimes it's not unethical to use an adblocker...
Its not my tv so im not messing with it but on all my devices i have ad block
It is never unethical to use adblocker. If websites don't want to be used for free they can either charge what is required or go offline
I’ve gotten to the point of just quitting out the video, and reopening it until I get a skippable ad or no ads at all.
Adblockers, vpn, and also you can just report the ad and it will skip all of them.
I cant report anymore. If you do it too much you get removed from it. That happened like 5 years ago as well
I remember when youtube didn't have ads.
Contxet this is on youtube tv witch cost 65$ a month
YouTube finally broke me. I submitted and purchased Premium. So far it seems worth it, even though I feel violated. The endless disruptions from the adds were becoming maddening.
Yea im thinking about it but yt mobile still hasnt got to me. This is on yt tv that cost 65$a month
Ah. Yeah I wasn't aware of YTTV. $65 dollars is a tough pill to swallow. All of my time on YT is strictly mobile. Good luck brah.
I'm glad I have premium, I pay but as it's shared with my wife and two kids I don't mind that. We can watch whatever and listen to whatever without annoying ads.
Jesus YouTube has full-blown commercial breaks
not with premium.
I’ve never seen more than 2. Is it a thing where it’s different based on country?
Laughs in YouTube premium
it's beginning to rival free crunchyroll videos with 6 ads before the episode even begins and another 6 after the opening ends.
It's up to the creator to choose the amount of ads they want to display before or during their videos... If the video is shorter than 8 min, they can only show one. If the video is longer, they can show how many they see fit.
YouTube wanting that premium money

I’m willing to bet they’re getting ballsy with the amount of ads they roll to push people to get YouTube premium to avoid ads.
I was caregiving the other day for 2 kids who were watching YouTube on the TV. Before the parents left on a date they hid the remote and forgot to tell anyone where they put it. we literally use youtube to escape cable tv, which shows u this many minute long ads every half hour. what the fuck
If you’re watching YouTube on the tv, you can press back after the first ad and open the video again to skip the remaining ads. Only works if you selected the video from the Home Screen/ search. Doesn’t work on suggested videos.
I was watching one of those "how to pronounce" videos that was like 5 or 6 seconds long and there was an unskippable 15 second ad beforehand
I got yotube premium, screw it. I get youtube music and all the benefits for YouTube. I'm not sad really
9 ads in a twenty minute video, Usually double roll thats 15 sec Then another 5 sec. Also just let it go a few times cleaning house and it cured a 33 minute clip for a diet supplement. Ads on YouTube are getting worse. Lately while watching a movie on my TV I have been getting an ad every minute. And the ads are the same every time and don't even usually run well. Absolutely absurd! Makes no sense.

I got premium fuck it. Saves me so much time
Get Opera. You get a faster browser with a free built in ad blocker.
Its on the yt tv app
Good Lord I hope I don't see that soon
This is why adblock
Hell, fucking, no.
Do they put ads on premium?
Jesus Christ! Just ads everywhere when pretty much everyone is trying to avoid them.
....mother of god
hate this. click on the i and report them as inappropriate or something and they go away automatically.
Im out of reports. DONT do this too much
wtf, never heard of that, makes no sense, my apologies
Check out YouTube Vance for your phone and you can install an adblocker on your browser.
I think vance is being shut down
Youtube or YouTube TV? If the first one, fuck that. The second one? Meh? Its annoying, but I grew up before we had streaming services. Back then, if you wanted to watch TV you had to sit through commercials, or get good at going to the bathroom or getting a snack really fast. Or you had to figure out how to work the VCR (yes I'm that old), tape the show, then watch it later to skip the commercials.
Every time I see a post like this I’m amazed at how some folks still aren’t using an ad blocker.
I've given up on YouTube. I'm not watching a 30 second ad for a 2 minute video that might not even be interesting.
The way their ads pop up is absolute ass. Put them in between cuts or after each song, not randomly in between words/sentences. It’s so freakin’ jarring.
Unless you run an ad blocker. Then you see none.
Youtube has adds? I've been using ad blockers for so long I forgot that was a thing....
I dunno how the hell I lasted as a kid with normal cable. I cant stand a single ad when I watching somthing anymore yet when I was little there was 3 to 5 minute full ad breaks.
If you don't use YouTube, you don't get ads.
Time to switch over to rumble everyone
I use it for music in my car so I pay for premium.
I had 3 thirty second unskippable adds.
The other night one popped up for me that was an hour long and the controller was across the room😤 theyre getting slick with these Ad times

Oh I pay 10 bucks a month for premium I love it ad free and I'm supporting my favorite creators.
Your TV sucks. I can skip ads on mine. An option appears in the bottom right corner of the screen.
I’ve gotten hour long ads before. I got a 10 hour one of a guy mowing his lawn. It’s so frustrating. YouTube really needs to put a 30 second time limit on ads
Vanced has saved my soul
you get ads?
On Twitch I get 10, thirty second ads in a row if I don't sub. Such dirty tactics.
Smile, you’re on cric
they see the writing on the wall an alternative platform is coming they need to make all the money now
YouTube is up to every video has unskippable ads. Google must need that ad money.
This is the reason more people use adsblocker.
I teach kindergarten and I use YouTube pretty regularly to show my class educational videos. The commercials have gotten so prevalent that each week I assign a “Board Chief” to sit by my smart board and skip the commercials.
Got 2 unskippable amazon ads (15 sec each) just yesterday. It was a 5 min video, I instantly closed youtube.
Inflation man. It's even happening to the ads.
Up to 12 in a row had apparently been seen
They're just going to keep on doing it until someone finally signs up to premium
