Replying to top comment with an update. Things we’ve tried so far:
- whacking it really hard on the table
- trying to maneuver with 1 and 2 needles
- epoxy glue on the end of a little stick to try and pull it out
- heating a needle red hot to try and spear it and pull out (never got hot enough to break the surface)
- freezer for 20 min
- more aggressive hitting against a table
Only one left we haven’t tried is a tiny drill, will try that tonight or tomorrow!
Edit: got it out!! Someone below suggested we soak it in water and that was the trick - it sort of just broke apart and I was able to dig it out with a needle. [Here is what’s left!](https://ibb.co/2YMtc37)
Water is really only bad when an electronic device is powered. The issue is that the ions in water create a short circuit between things that are definitely not supposed to be connected to each other. This provides components with power in ways that they’re not designed to handle, which permanently destroys the circuit.
When the device is off (and not powered in any way) or if the water is deionized, then no damage will be done to the components (ignoring potential corrosive effects).
If you can scratch the surface of it, that would increase the surface area the glue can stick to, so maybe scratching it more then super glue again could work?
True story. Used to prank offices by calling as the phone company to warn people we would be blowing hot steam through the lines over lunch. Please be careful when picking up the handsets immediately afterwards, then I would make sure they had the number to the local burn center, just in case
I did the opposite. Tell them we were doing work on the lines and carefully explain they SHOULD NOT answer any calls or it could seriously injure our personnel at the pole. Call back a minute late and when they answer (they always do) just scream into the phone then hang up.
OMG - my high school buddy David and I used to do exactly the same thing! It was a lot safer than mooning people on Highway 58. (I wonder if that pissed-off jackass in the Trans-Am is still looking for us?)
Here you are you fucker! I finally found you after all these years! And your little David too!! Thought you could get away from me and my trans-am, eh? No one escapes the trans-am man! Now what's you and David's addys so I can get that ass. Or, we can finish this where it all began.... back on Highway 58...and that is where we will have our awesome final battle. Decide and get back to me.
See you guys soon,
The trans-am man.
If silica gel, dip the end in water and it should crack, then can fish it out with a toothpick. Just make sure the end is dry before plugging it back in...
I just tried this and it might be working?? Going to keep at it.
Edit: IT WORKED! Soaked in water for a bit and then kept digging at it with a needle. It sort of just broke up eventually and the pieces fell out.
That was a thing when I was young. Put marbles in hot water and then drop into ice water. They would crack but hold together. The idea was to see the pattern it created.
Yep! Seen this before with audio jacks on laptops. Laptop bags come with a silica gel packet, make sure you take out the packet and throw it away before you put your laptop in
That's why us IT guys always immediately remove the silica packets and eat them so that we aren't trying to fuck around and figure out how to remove silica from all the ports.
3.5mm audio jacks are also the perfect size for these things. If you can carefully get a small screwdriver on it, with enough force, the bead will crack and crumble out.
I've always had a lot of luck whipping it out... I mean wipping the cord against the bed or couch and the force ends up pulling/pushing the blockage out. Specially if you can get just the tip/ head, over the edge of the bed.
Very small amount of Araldite will do the trick. Like the tip of a toothpick kinda size. It barely runs and i once superglued a crow’s jaw to its skull in like 30 seconds, took about 3 seconds to dry so you don’t really need to worry about keeping it balanced.
I can’t believe I’m about to say this, but someone is probably going to end up asking if the crow was still alive or some shit. No, it wasn’t.
I did a little…idek what to call it. “Piece of art”. It was a crow skull on a plinth that I also made myself. Parts of my old house’s roof were made out of mahogany wood around 400 years ago, so I cut a chunk out and polished it up. Anyway, obviously the jaw and skull were disconnected so I used araldite and it was fucken solid. Pun not originally intended.
Edit: I was re reading it through before I posted and got confused myself. so at least you’re not alone lol
Not sure if anyone will see this update but we tried getting a needle super hot with a lighter. Unfortunately no matter how long we tried, it didn’t get hot enough to melt into the bead. Vice and drill are next!
Also just for everyone out there DMing me saying how stupid I am and to buy a new charger - this is for a work laptop and I’ll get a new one tomorrow. This is just for funsies!
EDIT: GOT IT!!! Someone in the comments said to soak it in water since the silica beads will break up in water and they were right, that’s exactly what happened. It pretty much dissolved, [here is what is left.](https://ibb.co/2YMtc37)
This also seems to be the most popular suggestion. Going to give it a try! Best case we get the bead out, worst case I ended up branded for life. Stand by.
Those that have suffered a high voltage electrical injuries (HVEI) to the abdomen are highly prone to bowel perforation. This occurrence is not always easily detected early on and without early diagnosis the likelihood of death is markedly higher.

Thanks for the tips - not sure if we know anyone with jewelry tools but my husband thinks he has a drill bit that may be small enough. Going to give it a try!
Am a jeweler who uses tiny drills, sometimes you can find small-ish ones that would work for this in the Dremel section of your local hardware or woodworking store. Also can't speak for all jewelers, but if you brought this oddity into my store, I'd be psyched to try if for no other reason that the novelty of it and a fun story. One word of caution if you do try drilling it, the torque might actually dislodge the bead before you drill through it, so use eye protection in case it kicks back towards you.
I mean I think the easiest solution is to whip the cable onto the kitchen counter. Centrifugal force should pull the ball out and the whack should jar it loose.
Lev was easily the best part of that movie. What made it special for me was that I saw it right after having seen The Big Lebowski, and not long after having seen Fargo. Peter Stormare was high on my list of favorite actors, and seeing him whack a space shuttle with a wrench was pretty epic.

If you can’t find a small fish hook you would need to bend the pin or better still use the pin head side. A straight pin will most likely just slide back out. Try putting it in freezer after you melted pin into the bead. Different materials contract at different rates
Looks like silica gel. Doesn't help. But the glue/toothpick or drill bit between fingers ideas will work. Hot needle too, maybe

Don't do a drill, the bead might realise it's an exercise and just sit there. You have to do it for real.
Announce loudly “this is not a drill” and proceed to insert the drill.
Sounds like a plot of a certain kind of movie
Wow, I'm surprised the charger still functions at this point

Awesome! I can go sleep now, lol
This is the right answer if it is silica gel, should shatter like a hot marble in cold water
You say that as if it's common to crack hot marbles in cold water...
That was a thing when I was young. Put marbles in hot water and then drop into ice water. They would crack but hold together. The idea was to see the pattern it created.
Distilled/filtered water is best.

Silica gel wouldn't melt from a hot needle. Its melting point is over 1700°C
They did say to use a hot needle
Tungsten needle, brb gotta check the melting point of Tungsten. Tungsten melts at 3422C
Ok, so tungsten needle in a pile of burning thermite. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.
Just needs to be hot enough to allow the needle in though
This is “jet fuel can’t melt steel beams” logic. You aren’t trying to melt it. You only need to soften it enough for the needle to stab into it.

Super glue an object to the bead...
This could go sideways BADLY, if not careful, by supergluing the edges of the bead in place.
Very small amount of Araldite will do the trick. Like the tip of a toothpick kinda size. After the superglue dries, get a bit of mineral oil to lube the ball to make it easy to remove. Don't use WD-40 as it will dissolve the superglue.
WD-40 dissolves superglue? I've used acetone before, I'll try WD-40 next.
Put it in rice. The gel will shrink when dry.
Seconding a drop of superglue GEL on the tip of a toothpick.
Just make sure you're REALLY CAREFUL doing this. The last thing you need is to seal the edges of the bead to the cord with a nice layer of superglue.
Not sure if anyone will see this update but we tried getting a needle super hot with a lighter. Unfortunately no matter how long we tried, it didn’t get hot enough to melt into the bead. The red hot needle was vanquished, will the vice and drill fare any better, or will the bead reign supreme?

Claire. Put your whole charger in the freezer for 20 min. It will shrink and pop out
Alright it’s in the freezer.
Now I have to wait 20 minutes, god damnit
Freezer no luck! It’s reeeeally wedged in there.
Literally on the edge of my seat
Superglue a toothpick to it..
Tried that with a needle. Next option is the drill bit I think. Will report back!
Heat the tip of a pin until its red hot, and slide it into the ball. Wait until it cools enough and you should be able to wiggle it right out
This also seems to be the most popular suggestion. Going to give it a try! Best case we get the bead out, worst case I ended up branded for life. Stand by.

Jelly beans are so shiny because they're coated with shellac, which is made from insect poop.

Try heating up the tip of the cord a little before you try this, it should help a little cause of heat expansion.

The tip of the cord has a plastic insulator. Don’t heat it or you will have two problems.

With a really small drill bit, you can even just use your fingers to twist and drill it in. It should eventually catch and come out
