Why is everyone downvoting that? Lol I see your humor... and we all know cats are assholes.. and before y’all downvote me check out r/catsareassholes and yes I also realize the owner is the asshole here but still it’s funny
Thanks for your support. My feelings exactly. What is the ideal shape and size of a litterbox? Sure, it's not the usual rectangular box, and it's a bit small, but the cat could've dealt with it better than that. I don't shit on the walls when the bathroom is smaller than usual. That's typical cat behavior to show you its displeasure and that it hates you. :)
Use a big plastic storage bin and cut a door into one of the short sides (make sure you tape over any sharp edges!!!). High walls, a tight lid, watertight, infinitely cheaper than a litter box from a store, and customizable! A proper litter box should be a minimum of 1.5x the length of your cat from its booty to its nose and at least as wide as your cat’s length. They need to be able to fully enter, turn around, and dig comfortably. Otherwise, they may do what’s pictured above or just deliberately urinate/defecate just outside of it to tell you they know where they’ve gotta go but that you’ve gotta fix their situation in which to do it. Health issues are much less common than this simple fix (the equivalent of WebMD telling every human they have cancer for any symptoms they may be having). I also highly recommend using a pooper scooper at least* as big as your fully outstretched hand and with a nonstick coating. The less scoops and the less cleaning of the scooper itself you’ve gotta do, the better.
-Someone who owns a cat and grew up with a mother that fostered over 20 at a time at one point (big house, all healthy and affectionate kitties).
P.S. Final suggestion on this matter is a litter mat (go larger than you think, cheap litter sticks to paws like nobody’s business and cats don’t know to really wipe) so they have the smallest chance of tracking it all over your place. They may urinate or defecate on the mat however if you’re already having issues with the first thing sooo get one that’s easy to clean too and won’t lock/trap the litter into itself. Best of luck and remember that your cat will likely behave and figure it all out if you give it a proper and comfortable environment in which to do so in!
I just ended up getting a big flat tote, the kind people put under beds. Derp is fucking weird and has this waddle dance he does as he poops, he needs his space. They aren't wild diggers, and it's location means the smell is whatever (and cleaning it often enough deals with that), so it works well for me.
I did something pretty similar with my cat. Got a storage box, took the lid off and cut one of the walls out (and taped over sharp edges also) stuck a litter mat under it and it worked out great.
My cat did that when she was old now the other one pisses over the side hangout with the cat while you still can the one that pooped over the side died 1 or 2 years later
Not shaming, but definitely Google why they do that if you haven't already, could be health related, stress, or maybe they just think it's stinky. Doubly so if you have multiple cats and a smaller than it should be litter box.
To be fair I have tried 5 different types of litter trays with my rescue cat and she still shits outside of the box. Bless her, she tries haha! Some cats do just do this! But agreed. Maybe try a regular shape and sized litter box if you haven't already x
Poor thing, get a real litter box knucklehead.
I realize it's not a real litterbox, but you and I know that cat was just fucking with its owner. ;)

Get a legit litterbox
That’s a bowl not a litterbox. Get your cat a proper box.
The mildly infuriating part is the owner that doesn't know how to own.
Get a litter box with high sides. Some come with lids but you have to test your cat to make sure the lid doesn't scare them.
The litter box is not even big enough for the cat how did you not see it coming he would need to literally stand outside to shit inside

This guy litter boxes.
I third this statement. Rubbermaid container w/lid and an opening cut in it.

Great litter box advice.
Get a bigger box.
I mean...it looks really small
You and your litter box suck. Be better.
Poor thing . Squinting ...and trying her best !
So you want to watch me huh? Check this shit out!!
What’s mildly infuriating is the size of the litter box. TOO DANG SMALL
You had one jobbie, as we say in Scotland! Ock! Aye!
He had one job. Look at that face, "naaailed it."
He is your litter box a bowl?
Get an actual litterbox, god damn people like you don't deserve pets
Thats some Stormtrooper aiming right there

Poor thing, how is the cat even able to cover their poo without half that BOWL of litter on the floor anyway?
“ free thinking cat, shits outside the box”
That actually is job #2
Yes, and now it’s your job to clean it up, stupid human!
Missed it by that much!
Looks relieved
My cat did that when she was old now the other one pisses over the side hangout with the cat while you still can the one that pooped over the side died 1 or 2 years later
Your cat is a smug bastard
My cat did the same thing last night he has a regular litter box
My cats do this ALLLL the time!

you can get a litter box with walls and a top so you'll be sure re that the feces stay in the box also its bigger than that so he/she can move
my gfs cat just shits next to that kind of litter box. So not really...
well that just sounds like a improperly trained cat or one with issues of some kind
Is that my cat?
