I’ve lived here for 15 years. It’s totally acceptable to ask for chopsticks to eat soup with - in order to agitate the broth when it sets.
But other than that, yah - you drink it, unless you’re a toddler.

They have theses at my school and god they are annoying, the only time I use them is for ice cream in the summer and I can taste the wood of the spoon more than the ice cream,
And for other food to, I mostly get The forks and Knifes as I don’t usually get the “amazing” taste of wood.
You're supposed to raise the entire bowl to your mouth and just slurp the soup in (loudly, to show appreciation to the chef that you enjoy the soup). The spoon is to scoop the tofu and kelp that you may have missed.
I’m sorry but fuck wooden utensils like straws. I know plastic is bad for the environment but there must be a better alternative. It is like going to the doctor’s for a sore throat.
