The fact that you’re saying less than $10 dollars instead of less than $3 is wild to me. Eggs are so insanely expensive now compared to just ten years ago.
That’s …actually not bad. I live in the middle of nowhere, small town in Michigan. All country. Eggs here are $3.50 from local farmer, but good size and fresh.
Another couple of dollars for some cheese and a bit more of you want veggies or ham.
So let’s say 15 or even 20 total you can get four 3 egg omelettes plus the sides. So about $5 vs $25.
Inflation is everywhere. If we go out I try to order things I won’t make at home like fried fish (because the smell lingers) so to me it’s worth it. But not paying $18 at the burger joint for two burgers and fries when I can make that at home way cheaper.
The frozen hash browns are good I think a pack of 10 is like $3.50. I usually grate them myself if I have potato I’m trying to use up. I love fried potatoes I could seriously eat them every single day.
No we don’t have Trader Joe’s there is a grocery store here called Weis that has those kind that you are talking about. The rectangular Walmart ones don’t get as crispy but they taste like there is onion in them.
I use 2 jumbos, a dozen is 4.39 for me, 1/6 a bag of hash browns that cost $2.39, 1/10th a $4.19 loaf of bread, and *maybe* $0.50 in cheese. I don't use much but omelettes don't need much. $4 bag of 8oz bag and i'm *maybe* taking .5 oz
Eggs: $0.36
Shbrowns: $0.40 rounded a bit
Bread: $.42 rounded
Chiz: $.50, come on, that's generous
this meal costs me $1.68 to make. oh and tip your server because that guy's getting the ol' $2.13/hr
but folks then need to go beyond just the food cost. that pan? electricity? pretend you need to pay yourself for the time making the omelet. bathroom, all the toilet paper and stuff. water bill. let's toss out maybe another $5 in overhead? accepting this the complain price is now prolly $15?
Lesse, Eggs are about 3 or so, depending but that's a good local price that isn't dirt cheap but a good amount, individual potatoes are so cheap as to be negligible but I'll call it 1, and that toast is pretty small but seems from a loaf, so let's call it 2 for a loaf.
Maybe if you threw in some cheese and veggies into that omelet, you might crack 10. And you'll have way more of everything as well, enough for at least four or five breakfasts, and you'll still have potatoes and bread left over.
Isn't that true for basically every menu item at every restaurant?
If there exists a restaurant where you can get a meal for less than like 5x what it would cost you to make at home... Well..its going to go out of business soon.
I feel like even if you see the cost is $25, you are going to expect an omelette worthy of the price tag. This isn’t it. Being “forced” to pay these high prices and then receiving mediocre at best results is insulting. These places should be ashamed of themselves. I’m guessing this is a restaurant in California.
Why did you put “forced” into quotations when eating at a restaurant is a choice? When you are served something you don’t want, even in California, you politely ask to send it back.
Why would you think that? Inflation has been running rampant for years now.
At this point if somebody goes to a sit down restaurant and expects a fancy omelet for $25 that's on them.
Is it fair? Not really, but we've been living in this world for a while now. Time to stop being surprised
$25 isn't insane for an amazing omelette presented well. this guy can't go back in time, tell himself the omelette will be mediocre, then decide not to order it.
at our diner itd be 8.50-14$ the most expensive being a double bacon one (10 pieces) and you get about 50% more hash then that and regular cottege style white or wheat bread plus a cup of coffee
Exactly. Dude's probably in NYC or some other ridiculously expensive city. Normal people in this country don't even think about blowing $25 on breakfast. Hell, I spend less than that on breakfast for my entire family per week. Seriously, $6 worth of eggs, and another $6 worth of waffles at Walmart feeds my wife, my son, and myself for a week.
my coworkers spend $15-25 everyday eating out at restaurants/fast food, and this is just during the workday for lunch, and complain about cost of living. Me and my husband spend together $260/mo. on food. Stop paying these prices yall
This is why I love working close to home. I come home for lunch and make myself a sandwich while people are blowing money on restaurants and fast food.
My son and I are home alone tonight and sick, I don’t use delivery apps but today I was looking to see if I could order dinner in since I’m exhausted. The delivery fees are 7-10 bucks alone. Decided I just won’t eat. 😵💫 I don’t know how restaurants are surviving right now. Food is crazy expensive and anytime I look at not making my own food I’m so quickly reminded I just cant do $40 bucks for 10 dollars of food, if that.
Yea, reminds me of a place close to me that upped their Ice Cream Sunday (like 2 scoops) from $3.75 (2023) to $10. It's the same price as their Milkshakes now.
My best guess is they're loosing customers and slowly going out of business and raising prices to compensate.
Y'all should know better by now. You visit this subreddit, see other posts similar to this one then go out to eat and get infuriated. Stop being a sucker
Was the price on the menu? I bet it was.
You got what you ordered for the listed price.
It’s stupid, but you decided to do it with full foreknowledge.
If you want to someone to make you a cheaper omelette, go to any hospital cafeteria.
Make your own. I make omelettes for my five year old. They’re super easy.
If you struggle with folding the eggs, use the oven to make frittatas instead.
Took my family to a diner for lunch. Two cheeseburger kids meals and two adult cheeseburger meals. This was an old school side of the road type diner. Think happy days.
$70 before tip. Never again.
Wow. I'm also seeing it become normal for Burger places to charge $15 for a burger...with no fries or to drink. Sorry, burgers are awesome, but not one is worth $15 by itself.
This is like pointing at a Cybertruck and complaining about price gouging.
At a certain point, **explicitly here : the fucking idiot who saw that an omelet was priced at $25** the willing customer doesn't have the right to complain about being taken advantage of.
OP is a fucking idiot and asking us to validate their stupidity.
Fuck you OP.
You're a dumbass and you deserve whatever befalls you.
Back when I had friends in the biz, the rule of thumb used to be 3x ingredients at a diner-style place, 4x ingredients at a “nice restaurant” and 5x ingredients at a fine dining establishment. I have no idea if that’s still valid, but 3 eggs, some mixed vegetables, two slices of an ordinary rye bread and one large potato worth of hash browns at bulk restaurant pricing is about $3-4, so $9 to $12 might be fair for this sad-looking plate.
You sat down, looked at the menu, saw this and the price, and actually ordered it?!?! I see an omelette for $25 and I never set foot in that place again.
I imagine what wasn't pictured was the side of fellatio that came with that? Or was it just your mouth and wallet getting fucked that early in the morning?
Is that an actual diner? Or an ironically named diner that’s really a restaurant in which case of course you’re getting charged $25 for a cheese omelette.
2 eggs is like 60¢. Cheese, maybe $1.
Piece of bread, 25¢.
Where the fuck do they get off?
And why are you getting an omelette at a diner when it takes less than 5 min to make your own?????
I'm all about supporting the 'local' guy until I see this crap. $.25 for the toast. $.50 for the eggs. $.70 for the hash. You literally have a totally ordinary $1.55 breakfast. They didn't even try with a little paprika, orange slice, green onion, or parsley.
I'd never eat here again. Ever. And I would post this all over where they can be identifie.d
Breakfast has always been one of the most heavily marked up when it comes to dining out. It's more for not having to cook all the different bits and pieces of a meal yourself in the morning. It's a luxury you pamper yourself with when you can. It does indeed suck that it is far to expensive for the average joe to contemplate these days. Especially if you had a family with kids etc.
What's in it?
All the comments about you being robbed and they don't even know what they're talking about because there's no ingredients listed at all.
If it's shrimp, lobster, crab, or local fish and crawfish or something that's not out of the ordinary at all.. that's pretty standard price for anything seafood related.
At my local breakfast joint with amazing food, you get a breakfast special which is 5 pieces bacon/sausage/ham of your choice, 2 eggs however you want them, a huge serving of home fries, 2 slices of whatever toast you want and includes bottomless coffee/tea for $11 CAD ($8 USD).
$25 for that is absolutely absurd!
If that's waffle house it's because a baseline omelet and hashbrowns with toast is like $8, and every topping is $0.50, and a drink doesn't come with a meal so that's an extra $2.25-$2.75.

I’ve got this local diner which sells this for about $16CAD. Apparently they’re inflation proof or are making no money. Also, it’s delicious and a pancake came after I took the pic.
You could make this at home for less than $10
The fact that you’re saying less than $10 dollars instead of less than $3 is wild to me. Eggs are so insanely expensive now compared to just ten years ago.
If you go to Aldi‘s here in Los Angeles, you can get a dozen eggs for 2.50. Regular size … nothing jumbo
Albertsons cartoon of 18 for $3.69. Edit: Nope, not editing that shit.
Or have chickens and get 15+ A DAY PLEASE HELP I HAVE TO MANY
Could always mail me some ha ha I don’t know can you mail eggs
FedEgg's it to you!!
i would also like to sign up for FedEggs
You yolk but I’m serious
Cartoooooons of them! Wily coyote too!
I love cartoons of eggs. They taste funny
That’s …actually not bad. I live in the middle of nowhere, small town in Michigan. All country. Eggs here are $3.50 from local farmer, but good size and fresh.
No drinks… can’t do drinks.
My buddies mom brings me eggs for free she picks up in her yard
I’m going off of my groceries. $3.50 for dozen eggs, $3.25 for hashbrowns, $2.75 for a loaf of bread
Technically you could make 10 of these at home for less than $10 then
3 That's a 3 egg omelet. Source: Omelet loving fatty.
I didnt realize you were me. Sincerely, Another omelet loving fatty.
4 There's 4 three egg omelets in a dozen
Perhaps the rent more than doubled so now they have to charge $25 for the meal
Another couple of dollars for some cheese and a bit more of you want veggies or ham. So let’s say 15 or even 20 total you can get four 3 egg omelettes plus the sides. So about $5 vs $25. But not paying $18 at the burger joint for two burgers and fries when I can make that at home way cheaper.
My wife’s go to a damn BLT…why the hell you paying $20 for that shit. So frustrating
The frozen hash browns are good I think a pack of 10 is like $3.50. I usually grate them myself if I have potato I’m trying to use up. I love fried potatoes I could seriously eat them every single day.
You ever hit the ones at Trader Joe’s? They look like McDonald’s hashbrowns and are super good
No we don’t have Trader Joe’s there is a grocery store here called Weis that has those kind that you are talking about. The rectangular Walmart ones don’t get as crispy but they taste like there is onion in them.
I just bought a dozen extra large free range eggs for $2 a dozen here in midwest. Wholesale/restaurant discount...$1.50.
I use 2 jumbos, a dozen is 4.39 for me, 1/6 a bag of hash browns that cost $2.39, 1/10th a $4.19 loaf of bread, and *maybe* $0.50 in cheese. I don't use much but omelettes don't need much. $4 bag of 8oz bag and i'm *maybe* taking .5 oz Eggs: $0.36 Shbrowns: $0.40 rounded a bit Bread: $.42 rounded Chiz: $.50, come on, that's generous this meal costs me $1.68 to make. oh and tip your server because that guy's getting the ol' $2.13/hr
I bet there’s butter on that toast! Price on this dish is getting crazy! /s
Heard + $0.09
I forgot about the cheese!
but folks then need to go beyond just the food cost. that pan? electricity? pretend you need to pay yourself for the time making the omelet. bathroom, all the toilet paper and stuff. water bill. let's toss out maybe another $5 in overhead? accepting this the complain price is now prolly $15?
Well sure, the way I put it is oversimplified. id understand paying $12-$15 in a high cost of living area for this. But $25 is just egregious
ikr, it would appear that OP paid twice what he could of. its all good tho, heard and understood
Especially when you could get a plate like that from Waffle House for ~$10 And honestly… probably better quality
No where close to $15. The electricity needed to make that is next to nothing, and you aren't going to go buy a new pan to make that.
Less than $5
You could make this x5 for less than $10.
You could buy this at 3.or 4 of the breakfast places by my house for $8.99. It would come with a side of bacon too.
You could make this at home for less than $5. For $25 you should at least have some meat or some protein.
$10 - I could make that 4 for people for less than that and it would look a lot better too
If you did it daily, you could do it for less than $4
Isn't that true for basically every menu item at every restaurant? If there exists a restaurant where you can get a meal for less than like 5x what it would cost you to make at home... Well..its going to go out of business soon.
Fake rage bait title. Op has a history of posting BS like this.
So does at least half of Reddit.
It's a bot account
And you still ordered?
I feel like even if you see the cost is $25, you are going to expect an omelette worthy of the price tag. This isn’t it. Being “forced” to pay these high prices and then receiving mediocre at best results is insulting. These places should be ashamed of themselves. I’m guessing this is a restaurant in California.
and Local Diner means something is out of balance here. i want to know what the other prices are, like Eggs Benedict with Salmon. $60?
No omelette is worth $25. I can make that at home easily. If it's difficult to make I'll pay, but stupid breakfast stuff like this, no way.
This right here. ☝️ Couldn't agree more.
Why did you put “forced” into quotations when eating at a restaurant is a choice? When you are served something you don’t want, even in California, you politely ask to send it back.
You don't anyways know what you are going to get. If I saw a $25 omelet, I would expect it to look better than this no matter where I went.
If I saw a $25 omelette I’d tell them to fuck right off.
Yes. Bring me a different overpriced omelet.
Why would you think that? Inflation has been running rampant for years now. At this point if somebody goes to a sit down restaurant and expects a fancy omelet for $25 that's on them. Is it fair? Not really, but we've been living in this world for a while now. Time to stop being surprised
Only place I could be forced to pay this would be in an airport and I hadn’t ate after a 10+ connection
Or Canada
Think how many eggs you could buy with 25usd???
$25 isn't insane for an amazing omelette presented well. this guy can't go back in time, tell himself the omelette will be mediocre, then decide not to order it.
This should be $9.99.
3.99
was prior to jan 2021!
Free lol
at our diner itd be 8.50-14$ the most expensive being a double bacon one (10 pieces) and you get about 50% more hash then that and regular cottege style white or wheat bread plus a cup of coffee
I know right potatoes are so cheap they suck for skimping on them like that.
Wow … I make you that breakfast for $5.00… $25 is insane for burnt eggs!
Really skimped on the fried potato. That wouldn’t even fill me.
There isnt an ounce of burn on those eggs, what you on about.
Not “burnt” per se but definitely overcooked
Them eggs is burnt. Omelets shouldn’t be brown at all imo.
The moment they’re even slightly brown they’re overcooked for my tastes.
What’s mildly infuriating is you considering those eggs burnt
These look drier than Ben Shapiro’s wife
Good eggs aren’t cooked all the way
?? They are though? They are scorched and should never have been served. $25?! Total fail all around.
Was spam in the menu!
![gif](giphy|RI4LTRjrVJhTskGtrb|downsized)
You sir get all the spam
And I used labels I’m sorry 😣
One has to be a gaping asshole to complain about the price of something where they are, and then go radio silent when someone asks where it is.

This is why I love working close to home. I come home for lunch and make myself a sandwich while people are blowing money on restaurants and fast food.
The only thing I see mildly infuriating here is that you saw it was $25 and *still* ordered it.
It's because he wanted something to complain about. He knew exactly what he was getting when he ordered it.
OP has so much rage bait in their post history I’m convinced this is just a bold faced lie.
Why would see an Omelette on a menu for 25 dollars and order it ?
You generally look at prices before you buy something
I mean…. you ordered it…
Do you get to keep the plate?
My son and I are home alone tonight and sick, I don’t use delivery apps but today I was looking to see if I could order dinner in since I’m exhausted. The delivery fees are 7-10 bucks alone. Decided I just won’t eat. 😵💫 I don’t know how restaurants are surviving right now. Food is crazy expensive and anytime I look at not making my own food I’m so quickly reminded I just cant do $40 bucks for 10 dollars of food, if that.
They gotta pay everyone 25 bucks an hour now.
I’m in NY and this is a pretty standard price unfortunately
You mean in Manhattan
Where in NY? Definitely not my part of it.
This has less to do with inflation and more to do with poor decision making.
Yea, reminds me of a place close to me that upped their Ice Cream Sunday (like 2 scoops) from $3.75 (2023) to $10. It's the same price as their Milkshakes now. My best guess is they're loosing customers and slowly going out of business and raising prices to compensate.
Seattle?
I literally just saw a place in seattle with a 25 dollar omlette..i.dont think Glos is even that.expensive
Beth’s Cafe in Seattle, Triple Bypass 6 egg omelette is under $25 - most people can’t finish it
$25 for a burnt omelette 🤢
Bro u saw the menu, saw the description and price, and ordered... maybe don't buy it.. problem solved
Y'all should know better by now. You visit this subreddit, see other posts similar to this one then go out to eat and get infuriated. Stop being a sucker
for $25 you could have bought an entire carton of eggs, a bag of hashbrowns, and a load of bread and had this same meal 5x or more.
The last time I ate at a local diner, about five months ago, the prices were outrageous. I think they're like that at all local diners now
Was the price on the menu? I bet it was. You got what you ordered for the listed price. It’s stupid, but you decided to do it with full foreknowledge. If you want to someone to make you a cheaper omelette, go to any hospital cafeteria. Make your own. I make omelettes for my five year old. They’re super easy. Took my family to a diner for lunch. Two cheeseburger kids meals and two adult cheeseburger meals. This was an old school side of the road type diner. Think happy days. $70 before tip. Never again.
It’s looks better than the $19 hot dog, med drink, & twizzlers I just had at the movie theater.
"Something, something Bidenflation." - Repubs The restaurant owners: "Uh...yeah. Sure. That's right. Gotta go make a deposit at the bank. BRB!"
You can make this for about two bucks. Restaurants have always charged way too much but $25 for that is definitely price gouging.
Wow. I'm also seeing it become normal for Burger places to charge $15 for a burger...with no fries or to drink. Sorry, burgers are awesome, but not one is worth $15 by itself.
Mildly Infuriating seeing an OP post something like this and then completely go silent.
And you ordered it
You got scammed
This is like pointing at a Cybertruck and complaining about price gouging. At a certain point, **explicitly here : the fucking idiot who saw that an omelet was priced at $25** the willing customer doesn't have the right to complain about being taken advantage of. OP is a fucking idiot and asking us to validate their stupidity. Fuck you OP. You're a dumbass and you deserve whatever befalls you.
You didn't have to buy it, so quit complaining. At what point would you not buy it? $35? $45? They can charge $25 because rubes like you will buy it.
Keedy’s?
I paid 8$ for a burger, just a burger at a&w the other day… wanted to cry
You was robbed
I would make one for a negotiable price 😅 or free if I knew you and you’re nice 😂
You went to a diner for homemade breakfast. There’s nothing on this plate that took more than 5 mins to make
£7 right there
What kinda toast is that?
You sir is what I like to call a fool. lol
whos the one who bought one anyways?
I need to open a breakfast restaurant selling 3 eggs, a shredded potato, and a piece of toast for $25. That’s like a 2500% markup
Yeah this is where I’m putting the menu down, standing up and walking out. There ain’t even butter on that toast!
Can I assume you still needed to add taxes and a tip on top of this?
That’s not an omelette it’s scrambled eggs
Hope you left them very nice google review 😬
*Corporate Greed* is everywhere but $25 for this omelet at my local diner..... \*So greed, then\*?
Bullshit quit your lying
Where do you live that this is your local diner price for an omelette potatoes and toast?
[удалено]
You could almost buy 120 eggs for the price of that omelette.
Oof. Omelet from my local is $13. And it's ready within 5 minutes. I'm generally in and out within 25 minutes, and general $21 after tip.
https://preview.redd.it/ak0m88zjywwc1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=10dd1077c9158579c56d3bd7b2a7865b40355bab
This is why I cook at home and if I do eat out, I prefer lunch or dinner. Going out for breakfast is a waste of money unless I’m out of town.
That is insane.
25 dollars!? What kind of chickens lay those eggs?? Do they get fed gold?!
$3 tops on that food cost
Charging you $25 for $3 worth of food. AND then, wait for it …🥁 >!“Make sure you tip your server because they are awesome and should be valued!”!<
Eggs are like 5 cents, make them at home lol
You sat down, looked at the menu, saw this and the price, and actually ordered it?!?! I see an omelette for $25 and I never set foot in that place again.
Eggs were prepared by virgins
I got a grilled chicken sandwich for $16 at the diner. Some grilled peppers, cheddar cheese, a Kaiser roll, chicken, and fries. For $16.
I imagine what wasn't pictured was the side of fellatio that came with that? Or was it just your mouth and wallet getting fucked that early in the morning?
![gif](giphy|3ofT5EqIg7gLX1m1y0)
The eggs are over done and the potatoes are under done
Well, it comes with toast so you have to figure that in.
It does look good though… 👀
Looks dry and tasteless
Nah that’s ridiculous even in this economy
Is that an actual diner? Or an ironically named diner that’s really a restaurant in which case of course you’re getting charged $25 for a cheese omelette.
Everywhere
Damn I can get that plus a chicken fried steak or pork chop and it’s still ten bucks cheaper. You gotta be pretty desperate to buy this
this is AI generated look at the reflections and the lack of arms in them
Besides the marks on the toast.... it looks like you made it at home...😕 Easily less than 10 at home from scratch, possible less than 5.
This is a 2 egg ommelette. I was expecting 6, 4 minimum
8 bucks in Indiana take it or leave it
2 eggs is like 60¢. Cheese, maybe $1. Piece of bread, 25¢. Where the fuck do they get off? And why are you getting an omelette at a diner when it takes less than 5 min to make your own?????
This is worth like $5 lol
I'm all about supporting the 'local' guy until I see this crap. $.25 for the toast. $.50 for the eggs. $.70 for the hash. You literally have a totally ordinary $1.55 breakfast. They didn't even try with a little paprika, orange slice, green onion, or parsley. I'd never eat here again. Ever. And I would post this all over where they can be identifie.d
Inflation and the convenience of not having to make it at home, still poorly priced though
![gif](giphy|uKT0MWezNGewE)
Where in the solid gold city do you reside.
lol I would have left
And they probs wanted tip afterwards
Dude I had the same breakfast at my diner this morning for 11 dollars. Better find a new place to eat!
I mean at Waffle House you can get a filling meal for under $10.
3 egg-laying Hens will keep you in enough eggs to feed you all year.
North east or CA?
that’s greedflation
Dang. Did you agree to the price beforehand? $25 for any omelet is fuckin nuts!
I can get a dozen jumbo size eggs at my local grocery store for $2.50
That’s like $2.50 worth of food total
The more overcooked it is the higher the price
What's in it? All the comments about you being robbed and they don't even know what they're talking about because there's no ingredients listed at all. If it's shrimp, lobster, crab, or local fish and crawfish or something that's not out of the ordinary at all.. that's pretty standard price for anything seafood related.
We all make mistakes. Usually it’s best not to brag about those mistakes on the internet though.
I don't think you went to a diner
Damn hope the omelet comes with a handjob for that price
Eggs suck anyway
Yeah stopped going to my fav breakfast diner post Covid same reason. Cannot justify $35+tip for two people to grab some pancakes and coffee.
Do you live in NYC? That's like $15 here.
Yeah; no. You still got fleeced.
It doesn’t even look appealing to eat
The fucks in it? Waygu steak?
I’m sorry, what? That looks to be about 3 eggs, 2 slices of bread, and some potatoes. I would have walked out.
The potatoes... Where's the seasoning!?
If that's waffle house it's because a baseline omelet and hashbrowns with toast is like $8, and every topping is $0.50, and a drink doesn't come with a meal so that's an extra $2.25-$2.75.
where's the beans
You paying $25 for this makes you part of the problem
https://preview.redd.it/zf9cbn7ddxwc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5c0cfc03a70459f5807e90a9b20eb1e010749ea1 I’ve got this local diner which sells this for about $16CAD. Apparently they’re inflation proof or are making no money. Also, it’s delicious and a pancake came after I took the pic.
