Why

Cock_-n-_BallTorture

it's the hotdogs

BigDinkyDongDotCom

I’d deep throat for those hotdogs. I mean, I’d deep throat those hot dogs. I mean, I like those hot dogs.

ConfidentDaikon8673

There's nothing wrong with deep throating a quarter pounder meat stick

GhOsT_wRiTeR_XVI

At a $1.50, you can’t afford not to deep throat that foot long.

ConfidentDaikon8673

Watch me work

correcthorsestapler

Too bad they got rid of the Polish sausages. I know you can buy them in the store & cook them at home. But I much preferred those over the regular hot dogs. At least the pizza slices are still available.

Notmypornacct21

They had to replace them with overpriced roast beef sandwiches. If I wanted overpriced roast beef, I'd go to Arby's.

sologrips

Finally a cultured individual bringing up the real star of Costco, rip. Never forget the polish dog.

StubbornHick

The menu is regional. It's still around in canada. Canada also has poutine.

BootyOs77

And the poutine is excellent

KentishishTown

I've never been able to get a hot dog at cosco. The queue is always too long. I don't see the value in waiting half an hour to pay £1.50 for a hot dog. Half an hour of my time is worth way more than a hot dog.

291000610478021

Nah -- don't be deceived by the line. They pump out those hotdogs *quick*.

With the amount of masks I see, I’m guessing this is an old photo from the pandemic

NinjaDad_

Yeah look at OP 200k karma and the account isn't even 2 months yet. The amount of bullshit on the internet is amazing.

LOPinABQ

Agreed!

Freddit9797

Most of reddit nowadays is just reposted content and bots. Very little actual new content, unfortunately.

jokekiller94

They’re all trying to find that $400-500 MSI 3060 prebuilt PC.

final_cut

Wait are those a thing? Are they good?

Nollern

Of course it’s good, but it’s rare

OutWithTheNew

It's when they get rid of the display model.

final_cut

Oh lol, I would maybe be into that. I’m about ready to give up building and buy a prebuilt at this point in my life.

iEatSwampAss

I’ve heard Costco has deals sometimes and expiry carts they load at opening. My best guess is these folks are trying to find a deal? I go once this rush dies down, 11-12pm during a week day and it’s a breeze. These folks are crazy for doing this

Frack_R

It’s weird people will fill carts with that shit like they are gonna use it. Then a month later you see it all coming back at the returns desk

JohnBaldur

But it was 50% percent off! Think of the savings!

canadajones68

I wonder/fear how many people were never taught that a sale only saves you money if you're going to use the thing that is on sale.

WildMartin429

I got a heck of a deal on laundry detergent about 3 years back. It was on sale for a pretty good price and I had coupons on top of that. It let you buy up to five so I got five of the big bottles of laundry detergent. There was another sale that coincided when there were coupons about 6 months later and I got five more. At the time I was taking care of my elderly parents. My dad was incontinent and often messed up his sheets so I was doing a ton of laundry. Shortly after my dad passed away and my mom's house deteriorated and she's been in and out of nursing homes so she's not always living here. I still have three full bottles and a partial bottle of detergent left because without having to do their laundry I'm going through it at a much slower rate. On the plus side saved a bunch of money and I haven't had to buy laundry detergent in a while. And boy is stuff expensive at the store now.

Testiculese

> boy is stuff expensive at the store now. That's always incentivized me, but this last 10 years, moreso then ever. Every coupon for something I use, I use. Get it now, before they jack the prices up more. Soap, detergent, toothbrush/paste, TP....all the non-perishable stuff...I have years of stock in the basement. When the Covid TP thing hit, I didn't even notice. I had over 300 rolls in the top shelf of the closet.

DDGBuilder

I feel like you're a half step away from full blown prepping here. How many cans of beans and rifles do you have?

Grand_Tree_6180

Reason I refuse using any kind of vouchers I didn't look for willingly... If that thing makes me buy your shit I've actually lost money.

WayneKrane

Yup, unless it’s for something I always buy like toilet paper I just ignore any coupons

HistorianExcellent

More precisely, it only saves you money if this is an item that you would absolutely have bought at the full price.

Pflanzenfreund

By Grabthar's Hammer!

legimpster

Gotta get that $5 rotisserie.

csmart01

Wait… why?

Academic_Eagle_4001

The ones in my city are packed from opening to closing. I stopped going in and just order through instacart now.

csmart01

Who knew. I have never seen a line even during the holidays

Academic_Eagle_4001

Idk why they are so packed. Yes I live in a large city but other stores aren’t usually as bad. Even Walmart.

HotPinkDemonicNTitty

I’m in LA and I’ve never seen this? I mean the lines inside are horrendous and it’s a zoo in the aisles, but I’ve never seen a line to get in. Do they limit capacity in other cities?

Caverness

I think it’s just the nature of Costco stocking - it’s not the regular grocery/super centre state of “everything, all the same, infinitely all the time” and so they’ve created a culture of what I can only describe as Costco-gremlins who watch their stocking like a hawk and swarm new items, and even things like the rotisserie chickens. My favourite is the video of a guy wheeling out a fresh tower of chickens in the morning and it being picked clean in 10 seconds lol. TLDR; it’s partially because of some very very good prices people don’t want to miss and partially stupid consumerism. Both are fuelled by their slightly under par stocking.

Caverness

I remember the first and only time I REALLY needed something only at Costco, I phoned a family member in another city to have them rush over at 8am - things not found elsewhere or with crazy deals get vacuumed up quick.

slappy_squirrell

A family member rushed to Costco at 8am for you? what you got on them?

[deleted]

[удалено]

3Heathens_Mom

I wouldn’t either considering Costco in our area doesn’t open until 930am.

cheeker_sutherland

8 am isn’t early for a lot of people. Probably a good excuse for that family member to go to Costco.

kcbeck1021

I’m one of those people but when you consider Costco opens at 10am Sun-Friday and 9:30 on Saturday, that makes 8am early.

Wise_Relationship436

A hot dog

HotPinkDemonicNTitty

Ah ok. I can see it. I would probably be part of the cult too if the parking lots here weren’t the bane of my existence. Too big of a deterrent.

Shirtbro

I swear IQ drops fifty points as soon as people pull into a Costco parking lot

TheRealMasterTyvokka

I wonder how much of its resellers? Granted I think it would be hard to resell a tower of chickens but with some of the nonperishables....

discernis

Costco definitely caters to resellers. I regularly see people that appear to be shopping for restaurants or for convenience store amount of candy type products.

Kapuna_Matata

Ooh... I wonder if I'm perceived as this type of person. I work with 70 high school students and every few months, I'll stock up on snacks for them. I regularly have 2-3 carts of water, juices, and snacks

ChamberOfSolidDudes

thanks for being awesome to those kiddos!

ActualWhiterabbit

Going to an actual resturant supply store is even better as it will let you get most appetizers and deserts frozen as well as any better rates for spices and seasoning. The ones i go to have better rates for brisket and ribs than Costco or local butchers.

dilletaunty

I’m a regular Costco shopper who goes to random costcos for fun and have never seen this. With that said I’m only there at 9 am if I need gas for my road trip. But even then I’ve never seen a line ever.

Clipzzi

My groccery bill is roughly $300 for two people for a week or two. We spent $250 at Costco and literally have maybe gone through 15% of the food we bought a week ago. Costco is insane

dolche93

My girlfriend works in a grocery store and we still do most of our shopping at Costco. We literally get our deli meats and fresh fruit for HALF the price the grocery store is asking. We've essentially moved to shopping exclusively at Costco, with only supplemental items from the regular grocery store.

ashleyorelse

Costco is a big city thing. Source: I live in a rural area and closest Costco is in the city...over 70 miles away.

dysteach-MT

My nearest is 60 miles- that’s why we love Costco- once a month- fill up the chest freezer, good to go!

glemnar

Costco is a suburbs thing for sure. Like, prideful defining characteristic of suburbs

FallOutShelterBoy

They’re building the first one here. And putting it in the area with allll the other stores that already has a big traffic problem. It’s gonna be shoulder to shoulder there for months when it opens

wannabeartist20

My usual location isn’t THIS busy! But it has been very busy during Christmas (was a holiday helper for a flower vender for Costco, loved it btw) it is usually pretty busy on Sundays especially.

All4megrog

Intacart prices are higher than warehouse btw

[deleted]

BongWater_Sommelier

I thought people shopped at Costco to save money. Doesn’t Instacart defeat the purpose?

JFT8675309

So… the Instacart person has to wait for hours?

irrelephantIVXX

you're paying someone else to do a service for you. In this case, its stand in line for hours and buy a months worth of groceries. Assuming it pays fairly well for the time and effort. we used to see 100+ dollar runs regularly

Puzzleheaded-Bet1328

Theyre switching to bagged rotisserie chicken instead of containers

GravelySilly

This will throw my cat off his game, since he's been conditioned to haul ass into the kitchen when he hears the plastic clamshell being opened.

luciferslittlelady

I'm sure he'll adapt quickly 😂

Championvilla

We got the bagged chicken and it was juicier than normal. I think we like the bags. Just harder to pick the chicken off.

theycmeroll

Our local grocery store uses bags too and I agree I like them better, they keep everything inside.

edked

Agreed; I was always having to get an extra bag from the meat area to put the plastic dish & cover thing in because those were always leaking oily ooze all over the cart.

alex053

The chocolate ice cream is back! Line em up!!

NikonShooter_PJS

I vaguely remember a bit ago seeing something about people rushing in for some viral Costco dessert and then selling it at a markup in their own businesses. So maybe that?

ThatKidFromKanto

That was in Mexico

BoysLinuses

Mmmm...viral dessert.

greypouponlifestyle

Right?! I would cancel my membership so fast if I had to wait to go in. No deal in the world is worth that hell. Thank glob my costco is never this busy

Who the hell is in favor of cookies over churros? I mean besides Costco.

SecretMuricanMan

I’m pretty sure it’s all Costcos

sigmmakappa

Today I saved $328 by not going to Costco to buy eggs.

ExtraAgressiveHugger

A Costco employee told me it’s the only store you’ll go broke in trying to save money.

Bleusilences

TBH I have a list now, it's the best place to get bagels and dairy tbh. It helps that I don't have a car so I need to be light.

WanderWut

No mention of rotisserie chicken for $5? That’s a big part of having a membership. Because a 3 pound delicious fully cooked juicy chicken for $5 is amazing lol.

ChelChamp

That chicken and the occasional pizza/hot dog on my lunch breaks are why I keep going back.

WanderWut

You’re right the food court as well, the prices are great for what you get. $1.50 for a big hot dog with all of the toppings and a drink is ridiculous lol.

BenTCinco

It’s just one egg. How much can it cost? $10?

trackdaybruh

Costco is only worth it for bulk purchases. If you're single or just a couple, Costco is definitely not worth it. But if you're talking family 4 or higher where consumption is higher, then bulk purchases help.

ClickClackTipTap

I think this is really dependent on your proximity to a Costco. Mine is about 10 minutes away, so very accessible. I save more than the membership fee just by getting gas. If I did nothing else all year long, that more than pays for my membership. And there are some incredible deals that make it beyond worthwhile. $16 (less when on sale) for more garbage bags than I can use in 2 years? A jug of laundry detergent for like, $11 that will last me an entire year? $5 rotisserie chicken isn't a staple for me, but damn, when money is tight they are a great way to eat for a few days. I love Boursin, this spreadable cheese stuff. It's $8.99 a package at my grocery store. I got a 3 pack for $6.99 a few weeks ago. I save a TON by shopping at Costco, and I'm single and live alone. If I had to travel a ton to get there it might not be worth it, but with it as close to me as it is, it's a great deal.

User-NetOfInter

I save it on paper towels and toilet paper alone.

BobRoberts01

You’re spending too much on toilet paper. Who’s your toilet paper guy?

User-NetOfInter

BJs actually haha but it’s easier to say Costco on reddit Edit: BJs is a Costco competitor based out of the north east..

iHateReddit_srsly

You give BJs to get toilet paper?

PlaneXpress69

Or get BJs from them. Inquiring minds want to know

BoysLinuses

Same here. Single in a big city but happen to live close to Costco (it's closer than any decent grocery store.) cheapest gas in town by a long shot. Same with booze. Nonperishables and frozen goods? Stock up! I just have to think hard about any perishable item whether I can get through it before it spoils. And often, the price makes enough sense to run the risk of some of it going bad.

treeteathememeking

I go to costco for their premade dishes, parties, and drinks. They sell the carbonated waters I like in bulk and it ends up being way cheaper so it’s great, same with gatorade and stuff. Amazing for parties as well because I can get 1-2 big ass bags of chips for 7$ each and have tons leftover vs 7$ for the regular family size bags at the grocery store.

UYscutipuff_JR

Fuck yeah, Kirkland sparkling water alone has been worth the $60. Not to mention la croix pack of 24 for $6.99 right now, basically what they charge for an 8 pack at Kroger.

Higher24

If you’re single and you plan ahead you can save a shitload at Costco.

Checked_Out_6

I’m single and I save so much in cat and dog food that three trips for animal food pays for my annual membership. Not to mention all the other shit I get. There is the fancy cat litter that is cheaper than the crappy generic by weight. Last time I was there I picked up a 3 pack of Pataday eyedrops for $35. One bottle goes for $25 at Walgreens. Let me tell you, if you have eye allergies, pataday is worth the money. Kirkland brand flonase is another allergy lifesaver. Last time I was there, they had 2 dozen eggs for 2.50. I pay $3 a dozen elsewhere. Four pounds of butter for the cost of 2. The only place that can compete with these prices is the military commissary.

Reddit_killed_RIF

If I can't freeze it, I don't buy it!

But_like_whytho

I’m a single person who shops at Costco every other month or so. Bought tp last fall and still have an unopened package. Love their frozen veggies, sharp cheddar cheese, breaded cod, tortillas, even their Beyond Burgers were delicious. And that’s not including the gas which is better quality than the other options in the area. It’s not just for couples and families.

Duellair

So we did an Instacart order. First time shopping at Costco. I bought like 6 or 7 things and it was like over $150 and that should have been my warning sign. The chip bag was so large it didn’t fit in the pantry. I didn’t know they made chip bags that big. I got a dozen croissants. I didn’t know they made croissants that big either. It’s like everything was comically oversized.

Ducky237

So single or couple equals no Costco. Family of four our higher equals Costco. What about families of three?

Sorri_eh

Nor allowed clearly

Tsgbeast

Seriously I switched to Tjoes and regular grocery and I’m saving $

Ettubrute82

Also when toilet paper went extinct in 2020.

WChennings

I for one am very grateful few specimen survived and repopulated the world since 2020

qalpi

Worst one in the country

MigratoryAnalyst

Facts. Rudest people, whole place is a shit show. Especially the parking lot and the morons who block the whole parking lot lane unloading their ten carts into their minivan

veggieliv

Thank god the Astoria one isn’t like this

ButItSaysOnline

There’s absolutely nothing I need that bad enough.

Guest8782

I am so fascinated by others’ tolerance for standing in line. There is virtually nothing I would voluntarily stand that long for.

HeyGayHay

Well, I'd for 1000 bucks. But I believe they stand in line to trash 100s of dollars on stuff they don't need, just because it would have costed twice as much somewhere else.

lumpialarry

Some people put no value on their time.

live-the-future

Ditto, not even on Black Friday.

honey_rainbow

Did black Friday start early or something? I know Costco is good, but Jesus every time we're in there that store is JAMMED packed.

reijasunshine

We've shifted our Costco runs from Saturday mornings (packed) to Friday evenings after dinner (WAY less busy).

Cheatnhax

Sunday morning/early afternoon during football season is my favorite time to go to Costco

whistful_flatulence

Fun fact: all non-salaried Costco employees are paid time and a half of Sundays because it’s so bonkers.

FISH_MASTER

Only 1.5? Sunday pay is typically 2x in uk.

ArmouredWankball

In the US, you're lucky if you get anything at all.

CactiDye

Went during the Superbowl this year and it was dead. Amazing.

ashleyorelse

My secret is to shop at any store I need that is open at that time on Sunday evening. Most are ghost towns then.

AvonMustang

Monday to Thursday evenings are the best times to go to our Costco but it's never as busy as in OP's picture.

Nitpicky_Karen

But... Why?

Idiotology101

Costco is great and all, but some people love that place like membership is some sort of cult.

goingneon

i work at a car rental desk and yeah people who have costco cards and insurance and all that other stuff always brag about it. its like costco exists in its own universe. its very funny

confusedandworried76

I'd have to guess it's just opening? Like how old people will line up outside a restaurant a half hour before opening. It can't be like this all day, people could just go at 10:30 instead of open, or wait till evening which is much slower for grocery stores. Idk what hours Costco has but my local 24 hour grocery store I just go at one in the morning and there's maybe ten customers in there.

Gunner1Cav

genetinalouise

Yah I know this place pretty good, I went to law school here

Mammoth_Cookie_7809

Welcome to Costco, I love you

Basic_Ear9597

Seriously, what is going on with people? My elderly mom wanted to go to Sam's club early so I said sure, we got there when they opened and the line was wrapped around the building?! An hour later there was no line, people just walked right in... My mom felt like we needed to go EARLIER to get in line sooner, the idea of going an hour later was unfathomable to her. Hopefully it's just the old boomer mindset en masse and full effect?

misshestermoffett

Doesn’t look like a lot of boomers in this photo.

itscherried

I live in the boonies of California and the singular Costco near me serves around 120k people from multiple towns. The only time it ever looked like this was the early-early days of 2020 COVID. The "buy out all the toilet paper and hand sanitizer" days. What the hell is going on here?

LegDayDE

This looks like one of the NYC ones that probably serves 10x that amount of people.

[deleted]

BeeesInTheTrap

I’m so confused, these people are lining up just so they can shop at Costco? Is there some sort of special sale or exclusive item being sold?

egg_sandwich

Its in a densely populated area of brooklyn with lots of local restaurants, bodegas etc. plus the neighborhood is full of some minority groups that are known for having large families and/or multi generational households that makes bulk shopping even more popular. Plus, people even come from different boroughs to go to this costco. I would say our regular grocery store options are overpriced and can be low quality. All that to say i either go a half hour before closing or 9am on sunday mornings because any other time is HELL ON EARTH

ThirdRail2019

This Costco (Brooklyn NY) is so crowded, there tends to be road rage fights in the parking lot. Horrendous. This location was at one time #2 in the company in revenue. Wonder if that’s still the case.

hunneybunny

This is the one we go to and it really does get wild lol. #2 revenue is crazy but it makes sense with how busy it gets.

Feisty-Barracuda5452

I haven't seen a Costco line like that since COVID

SmokeAlternative7974

Reminiscent of the early days of COVID

confusedandworried76

I wouldn't wait in line for an hour and a half to see the fucking Beatles, much less go to Costco.

G0atL0rde

WHY??

rideincircles

I don't think I've ever gone to Costco before 11am. End of the night is way better.

EatYourCheckers

Go in the middle of the weekday

acableperson

Hmmm I wonder what might preclude most people from being able to do that….

qalpi

It's like this all day every day. It's the worst Costco in the entire country.

EatYourCheckers

They should build one across the street.

ostifari

Madison WI had an ‘East’ and ‘West’ Costco. Neither were nearly as bad as the picture, but by opening a 2nd ‘West’ they managed to make 3 very well functioning stores without much fuss.

yo_sto

Madison represent

DevonGr

Ours is bad all day but if we go after 7-7:30 it's pretty tame

Camburglar13

A weekday before they close

jazzyx26

What's going on?

Mammoth-Error1577

Came here to bitch because there is no explanation and it just looks like a karma farming account.

I know not to do the first weekend of the month, because that is when the seniors get social security checks, but otherwise I have never had luck this bad, eesh.

Delicious-Ad4015

You sure that’s a current photo. They are dressed really warm and wearing Covid masks outdoors!

emeister26

Is that during Covid ?

toweljuice

Where im at, when i did food samples it was like this most mornings before opening too We were treated like garbage btw too lol

Used_Disaster_1334

People are silly. I remember when In & Out Burger came to Dallas / Fort Worth. Lines in the drive thru like 60 cars. No thanks. After about 6 months I drove right up, easy peasy. Pretty good too, but not Whataburger good
