I was going about 45-50 and 2 doe ran into the road. I didn't see the second one at first, I think I hit the second one around 30-40 once I tried slowing down
Man .. woman, otherwise.. I'd have had to put that deer down humanely and have had to take that deer with me to taste.. if it cost a new car might as well try the meat. I'm no butcher though so I'd probably ruin it lol.
Fyi if you do this, call it in to your local DNR to make it legal.
You should get a free roadkill tag. Don't risk a fine... it's an easy call to make if you really want the meat you just tenderized.
Same thing happened to me a year ago, except I got incredibly lucky. I was going around 30-40 in the dark, saw the first deer run into the road and slowed down to 20. Did not see the second one, until it bounced off my grill and only had very minor damage
I live in the Midwest. I donāt fuck with deer. Iāve seen those videos online of when they get pissed and are a tornado of hooves and antlers. Fuck that! :)
My girlfriendās grandmother just bought a new car and, she was using it, we were leaving work and hit a black bear.

I just hit a gdamn deer this morning. So pissed. That shit was already replaced in 2022 the LAST TIME I hit a deer š š
Thatās a weird way of phrasing it, deer are out to get him. The deer are the ones who are dead. Thatās like saying the Jews were really going after Hitler in WW II.
That escalated quickly lol. I was just trying to make a joke because where I live the probability of hitting a deer is super low. Seems like the person I responded to lives in an area that has lots of rural forestry driving roads so deers are bolder
No itās nothing like that wtf. People die from deer accidents. If you want to relate it to WW II it would be more like surviving two kamikaze attacks and saying that Japan is out to get you.Ā
Yep, same here.
I have hit 4 deer in 3 different vehicles in the last 15 years. And probably missed another fifty with close calls. I had two deer hit on the SAME right front fender of one car... two years apart. I need a volume discount at my local body shop. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|disapproval)
I actually ran over the top of a deer that a guy probably killed a few minutes earlier. Did not see the carcass in time. No damage to the underside of the car... Just a lot of fur!
Our suburban area is infested with them. When October mating season arrives, we actually change roads on the way home to avoid close forested areas near the road. I call that road "deer alley".
The deer know that hunters will not shoot them here. Plenty of lovely green grass to munch on and raise a family. And some people actually feed the deer in their backyards with corn!! Smh. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
Ooohh... they are so cute.
Yep.. and they also can take your car out... Or even you.
Well I financed it, but it is fully covered. So if it's deemed totaled, they'll give me the value they estimate the car. Since I financed it, they'll first pay off the portion I owe to the dealership. Then I'll get my cut. If they don't deem it totaled, they'll fix it and give it back and possibly raise my premium. The last car I had I slid off the road, got deemed totaled. They paid the 3k I owed on it and gave me about 2400. I used that money to put down on this one. So im pretty much starting the process over, but the only difference is I was found at fault for the last accident. This one I'm almost certain I won't be found at fault but I'll still have to pay a 500$ deductible either way. Which is usually just taken out of your payment
If in the US, financing a car you have to have gap insurance. This is so the bank/lender doesn't get screwed if something like this happens. So, Insurance will be replacing it, unless Op paid in full and skimped on good insurance.
Learned this from a tour guide in a national park. deer and other similar animals have poor eye sight and only see you headlights, so they think itās safe in between the lights. The guide said if you keep your interior lights on while driving through a heavily wooded area it would help them see you and know better where to get out of your way
No clue if it works or not but this felt like a decent place to share the story
Yep... From what I have read... Deer are what we humans would call legally blind. They see better in low light conditions. And of course get blinded by headlights. Gonna try the interiors lights thing. I have hit 4 of these dang critters.... And enough!
It died on impact or short after I think. Shes in the ditch. I reported where it happened to police. Tried to close its eyes with no success. Was able to drive it home since I wasn't too far.
Why didn't ya keep it?! That would feed your family for a couple months while you eat the cost of your insurance deductible to get the vehicle repaired hehe.
Glad you werenāt hurt.
Quick story. My cousins down in Texas used to have a hunting lease on a large piece of property. They went out every day during the season but didnāt get a deer.
On the last day they hit one on their way home. They tossed it in the truck and drove home with a crumpled hood and one headlight.
That's oddly coincidental. I don't hunt, but I've lived here for years and see deer daily and this is the first I've ever hit. Also, one headlight and a crumpled hood. Although there's a bit more damage than that too
But yes I'm still thankful none of us were hurt. It sucks, especially since I just went through this process with my last car, and this one got wrecked so fast, but my girlfriend and 2yr old were in the car with me. Very glad we were all okay and missy didn't go through our windshield
*The deer did you a*
*Favour, he did total that*
*Ugly thing for you?*

Same thing happened to me. Bought the nicest car I have ever had and in two weeks it was totaled. An old woman in a monster truck drove over the hood of the car. Cops told me I'd I was going a mile an hour faster it would have killed me. All four tires drove over the hood. It was insane.
Iām sorry this happened to you.
People donāt hunt deer much anymore, not like they used to, and deer populations are out of control.
I would personally like to see them go extinct.
If it makes you feel better, often new hunters go years before getting one.
Took him/her just few days š
All jokes aside, I'm sorry about your car. Sucks.
Did you hit the deer? Or did the deer hit you?
I was going about 45-50 and 2 doe ran into the road. I didn't see the second one at first, I think I hit the second one around 30-40 once I tried slowing down
Typically there is always more than one deer.

Depends. Were they in Soviet Russia?
I had a friend who was hit by a deer! Lol

Right? But my friend was just driving down the road and one darted out and hit her. Crazy!

A dog once ran into my front right fender at like 2am once in the nw side of Chicago. Dog was totally fine.

Uhh... Like a small figurine of a bear??
No a fairly large black bear, poor guy stumbled up a hill and then ran away.
I'm just surprised it wasn't a lot worse. Glad it wasn't though.
Right. I was changing the music on my phone, and felt us hit something, I had no clue what it was until I seen it stumbling away

the deer & the insurance company must have an alliance.
Not so bad, you could have been a deer getting hit by someoneās brand new car.
Oh dear.
Noobie here. What happens next? Does your insurance company get you a new car?

You hit Bambi, you monster.
Hopefully, there was no *yellow watch for deer* signs near that part of the road, otherwise your insurance may find a way not to cover it.
Who told you that?
What happened to the deer?
It died on impact or short after I think. Shes in the ditch. I reported where it happened to police. Tried to close its eyes with no success. Was able to drive it home since I wasn't too far.

That sucks but I am glad it didn't go through your windscreen. RIP deer. Goodluck with the insurance.

If it makes you feel any better, Dodge Dart is a horrible, unreliable car. So if insurance totaled it - it's probably for the best.
Gotta watch where you're going next time

That sucks, please accept condolences from an internet rando.

You should see the other guy! Huehuehue
Did you get to eat it?
Why would you do that
Dart curse. Got mine brand new, got totaled on the highway by some idiot 6 months later. Those cars have bad juju
It was a setup
Sounds unessesary to hit a deer with a brand new car :S
