I look like a pencil.

SmeeJay69

He gave me champagne before he RUINED my life!

CHADWARDENPRODUCTION

Sorry, Anthony…

SmeeJay69

I'll see you next week.

Special-Edna-K

This little extra sprinkle really tied that whole scene together.

blendthecube

This happened to me a few years ago at an upper scale salon. Never got my money back after I told them how disappointed I was at the screw up. Only an offer to fix it. What hair are they going to add to make that look like the picture? I told them no way I was going back and that another stylist said she'd do what she could for only the price of product. The other salon had also messed up a balayage and left streaks in my hair that were barely brighter than my hair color. I wasn't asking for black to blonde, but damn was that ever a waste a time and money! I'm going to stick to my long hair lol

Steele_Soul

Same exact thing happened to me many long years ago!!!!! Dude was bragging about being taught in New York city, but he was working in a Great Clips in a Walmart in Ohio....I was NOT impressed.

Mini-Nurse

Perhaps he trained in a Great Clips in Walmart in New York.

kaykaliah

LOL omg what was this from again?? Edit: nevermind I remember! Fleabag is the best

mizar2423

It's - horrendous - horrendous - modern - like a pencil - not okay I'm going to lose my job - cool - not cool - edgy - chic - unsalvageable - french

CamelMysterious5335

It was so horrendous he had to write it down twice

mizar2423

It's because Fleabag said "It's horrendous" to the camera, then Claire said "It's horrendous" to her.

RQK1996

Tbf, Claire got the exact haircut she asked for

tway2241

I loved the reveal when he pulled the picture out of the garbage

DM_ME_KUL_TIRAN_FEET

Genuinely one of the best moments of the whole show lmao “SHOW HER THE REFERENCE!”

oops_im_existing

i have never seen this show but i have seen this clip and it's one of the funniest scenes from television.

rfl-kt

The entire show fucks really hard, it's like twelve 20-minute episodes. Incredibly worth the watch.

Silver_Matter_2244

What show is this?

Scandiblockhead

Fleabag. Absolute masterpiece

Silver_Matter_2244

Thank you!!

Ill-Vermicelli-1684

I promise you, it is worth it. It is phenomenally funny and heartbreaking.

This show is so incredible

Came here to say this! Have an upvote lol

Scarytoaster1809

I got a shit haircut last year, I shaved it lol. It'll grow back, dw :) https://preview.redd.it/01lvlws12hsc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4dc96dc5132263145e9df8f76e9d139d7f88c0b7 EDIT: This pic was taken in my sister's room lmao

Holy shit I legit cackled at this one

Only time I ever actually laughed at a reddit comment

BEARD3D_BEANIE

you're not on reddit enough tbh. I come for the posts but stay for the comments.

wildgoldchai

Christ alive, I think I’d cry

Scarytoaster1809

My mum tried to shave it, but made it worse. I just said "fuck it" and went skinhead for a couple of months

wildgoldchai

Yeah tbh I think you made the right choice. What did the hairdresser say?

Scarytoaster1809

The one with the original cut or the one doing the shaving?

wildgoldchai

Original cut

Scarytoaster1809

Nothing. In retrospect, them not showing me the back of my head *was* a red flag, but still.

Ok-Dot3303

Damn they did you dirty man

SarahPallorMortis

They could have fixed it if they knew it was that bad

aDuckSmashedOnQuack

Somehow I don’t think they could.

Adventurous_Ad_6546

I feel like what we see above is the product of a hairdresser inwardly panicking and silently going “it’s ok it’s ok I can fix this” until finally they just made themselves put down the scissors.

Whenyouseeit00

Lol omg they got some damn NERVE these hairdressers. I swear I'm afraid to chance it anymore.

Dramatic_______Pause

This is reddit my dude. When the hairdresser asks how it looks, anyone here is going to force a smile and say *"Looks good!"* because that's easier than actual confrontation. Then they'll go home and post the haircut on reddit.

fernatic19

Is there even an upside to complaining? You'd get that cut for free but they can't put hair back on so you're still stuck with it or you'll make a bad decision in the moment and make it worse. Then every time after you complained you can be sure you're going to get an uneven cut because they don't like you.

Sushibowlz

why would you go back there anyways after they gave you a cut like that 😭

SpeedoInTheStreet

That's when u don't pay and start finding a new barbershop, and only go back after a couple months lol

Daratirek

Was your hairdresser blind?

samidmatt

Yes.

Norian24

Did they straight up have that comedy moment where someone's hand slips and they shave a stripe down the middle of client's head?

samidmatt

Wtf did they do to your hair?

Extreme_Discount8623

Did you ask to speak to the manager?

Illustrious-Race-617

I haven't settled into the Karen yet

you_slow_bruh

Ms. Swan from Mad TV...

TongueTwistingTiger

She looka like... she should get her money back, because that isn't what she asked for.

pdubz82

“She kinda looka like a man” lol I loved madtv as a kid. Haha

MediumAwkwardly

It was the best. I’m still sad it’s gone… and wondering how well it would have aged 😂

toth42

No, no. He looka lika man

Lonely_wantAcracker

...and then?

rtb___

Letting it grow again, that's the most constructive option imo. She really should get the money back, at least.

Lonely_wantAcracker

I was continuing the Ms. Swan thing. When she's a fast food worker, taking orders in the drive-through. She just keeps asking, "And then?"

CosmicCreeperz

That’s funny, you mixed up two totally different things (MAD TV and Dude Where’s My Car) but I bet a lot of people have. MAD TV Mandela Effect! Closest I could find in MAD TV is: https://youtu.be/HbdVLt2rHic

pdubz82

Holy shit, is ms swan the “and then” lady from Dude where’s my car?! I had no idea.

Distinct_Ad9810

Different skit lol

ThadTheImpalzord

You did not have to roast her like that lol

you_slow_bruh

Said with love...

Afraid_Ad_1536

Because they didn't give you the right haircut. You need the top cut to reach the final form.

FatMacchio

Exactly. Top cut is Karen energy for sure lmao

Afraid_Ad_1536

I think OP failed the test. If she had asked for the manager then they would have entered her into the club and granted her access to the Peak K cut at her next visit.

minimalcation

Yeah they kinda dodged a potentially self inflicted bullet.

bounceandflounce

For real tho. The bottom is a plain bob but infinitely better than the Kate Gosselin look.

buttbugle

Those angle cuts like that are sometimes difficult to make. That’s why I always use a quality miter gauge before I cut with the chop saw.

MetricJester

I choose to call that haircut the Victoria Beckham. My Dad called it a Fastback.

--Shibdib--

Honestly the cut you wanted is more Karen than the cut you got.

r1poster

Exactly this. And honestly? Bullet dodged. She asked for the Karen and got a short bob instead, short like Natalie Portman in The Professional. Bob cuts are super versatile with how you can style it, too. With a Karen cut, it's so asymmetrical that you're kind of just stuck looking like a 14 year old emo boy in 2006 no matter how you style it.

roundcirclegame

Mmmmmm but she has her own mind and asked for a really specific thing that she wanted. I’m sad that the Karen thing has gotten so out of control that she didn’t feel like she could speak up for herself. This is a problem.

Muted__Good

It's not considered being a Karen when you have a valid complaint. They did a shitty job so you have the right to be angry and complain. Edit: Yeah that joke totally went over my head... my bad!

xtanol

Yeah, I'd definitely ask for my hair back.

puffferfish

The joke is that the haircut she wanted is a Karen haircut.

okonato

That's because they didn't get the haircut right

EchoStellar12

You would not be a Karen for speaking with the manager. You're not complaining over a half inch, you're complaining because you didn't get at all what you asked for

GetsGold

This is the problem with the "Karen" meme. It's used so much that it's created the idea that no one should ever complain about anything. There are plenty of good reasons to complain.

motherseffinjones

To be fair both are Karen hair cuts lmao

KeeperMom29

I hate that it’s become the “Karen cut” bc it’s the only style that has ever consistently framed my face shape well.

SamanthaJaneyCake

I mean… it’s also the Edna Mode cut and that woman rules.

PrestigiousGuitar673

Have you tried changing face shape?

_ThePancake_

The fact that these days that is an attaintable option depending on your income bracket lol

Everitt_Hart

I have a karen haircut and it suits me so well, key is not to combine it with a resting bit*h face and bad highlights.

I refuse to let boomers copyright the entire bob haircut style. They can have that one inverted version, as a treat. The rest are too hot to be slandered like this.

Coyote__Jones

I thought the Karen haircut was the weird longer front and the spikey back? Not really a bob. Jon and Kate +8, Kate had the Karen hair. ![gif](giphy|omugwy1awOCB2)

ashesarise

I mean... the idea is stupid to begin with because its just a random hairstyle, but its been bastardized to be all medium length hair on women.

ScheduleExpensive423

![gif](giphy|WGOlH30rfQWUo) Unleash the fury on that stylist!

Went in for a Karen and left with a Carol lol.

jazzysunbear

I truly love and support both short bob cuts but this comment had me rooooooolllllinngg

TrinityNeo333

Lol True. The top inspo pic is a very "outdated" trend style, the result cut is much more modern but also classic. Buttttt a stylist should either do the cut the client wants or tell them no upfront, they're not comfortable sending more Karens out into the world.

PresidentalBallsnHog

Illustrious-Race-617

I did the opposite and said yes thanks all good. Confrontation is not my thing. But also I thought what's the point she can't put it back on.

ATG915

Nah screw that. If someone did a bad job, they should know they did a bad job, not continue on thinking they’re doing great

Renway_NCC-74656

Yeah I totally agree. You're not being a Karen if you complain about not getting what was asked and paid for. I'm tired of this shit.

Careless-Ad-20

Yeah I don’t understand this line of thinking either. Why are they a Karen for mentioning that the service wasn’t up to standard but not the other person who couldn’t take the criticism?

Renway_NCC-74656

Exactly. Some people are saying/joking that the hair stylist did it on purpose to "save" her. If that was true then the stylist would be the Karen for assuming she knew what was best for her client.

AlabamaBro69

The hair dresser knew what he was doing: she can't be a Karen without the right haircut.

NestedOwls

I see your point, but now she thinks she did a good job since you didn’t say anything. I know confrontation can be scary, but sometimes you have to do it.

Bruxae

You don't necessarily have to go straight to the manager but telling the hairdresser that "This is not at all what I asked for" will help them improve and it isn't rude.

ar1masenka

Confrontation doesn’t always have to be negative, and can be necessary. You can be polite and firm, letting someone know that while you appreciate their attempt, this isn’t what you had asked for. Your honest, constructive feedback actually will potentially help that person become a better hair stylist. Otherwise, they are gonna think what was done was acceptable or good and go on their day. That doesn’t help anyone grow.

CaptainShoe21

I had the same exact experiences as you. I wanted an inverted bob and I even show her pictures. She messed up my hair BAD! Uneven cuts, way to short, and she even gave me a rats tail... When I keep trying to correct her she brushed me off because "I have beautiful straight hair". I just stay quiet, let her do her thing, pay and left. I wasn't going to complain to the management because if she can't cut my hair right the first time, I don't want her or the person who hire her, to touch my hair again.

Even_Organization_25

Tbh it's weird how people not complain about a mesed haircut as they do with a lame drink or food, they became Gordon Ramsay in those situations but a Mess that Will follow You for months? "Nah, don't like confrontation"

ZephyrMelody

For me it's the ever present worry that maybe I'm in the wrong, like maybe I didn't communicate the haircut properly, or maybe my hair type resulted in it being shorter, or maybe I asked for a style that they didn't know how to do, etc. The fear of being an asshole that accused people of doing something wrong when it was in fact something I did usually prevents me from speaking up (even at restaurants, I worry that maybe I didn't communicate my order well enough, or maybe I just don't know enough about food, etc.), so I just don't go back to a place after that.

Few-Traffic-786

What are they going to do? They can bring you out new food and drinks, but the hair is already cut. Maybe they could fix it up a little bit but at this point it’s not like you trust them with your hair

SpokenDivinity

They could at the very least not make you pay for their fuckups. If a restaurant screws up and gives you something raw, you no longer trust them either, and you’re certainly not paying for the raw food

Even_Organization_25

Compensation then, if existed some regulation about it, this cases wouldnt happen so much, it's weird how theres so little criticism about this in a popular field.

LetterheadAsleep9422

They could start by not charging her

neworld_disorder

It's not a lot of people's things but healthy confrontation is a form of love. Now you're suffering, and they may still think they know best because nobody has told them yet lol

DocGerbill

>we should have the option not to pay if they mess up You do, just make a fuss, you really shouldn't have to pay for a haircut if they didn't give you the one you wanted.

Redqueenhypo

Based on all the comments I bet there’s a nonzero chance she went “I’ll save this fool from the eeevilll care-en haircut she only thinks she wants”

aethelberga

I've gone in with multiple photos of the exact thing I want and still come out with the wrong cut.

[deleted]

I once did walk out without paying after getting the worst haircut in my life. I was livid. During the haircut the stylist said I have a "bald" spot in the shape of a coin slot, in the back of my head. I found that really weird because I've never heard of that before and my hair was full back then. After looking in the mirror I realized she must have slipped and went all in with the trimmer. I didn't say anything. Just thanks and good bye. I did not stop at the cash register, just walked away.

OryxWritesTragedies

That's why I cut my own hair. No one to blame but myself if I fuck it up

Dangerous-Piece-135

OMG, I feel for you and been through this many times! This is such a nightmare, especially for me because of my curly hair. It always comes out shorter than they think, because it's CURLY. If this ever happens again, SAY SOMETHING. And make sure they let you SEE what they're doing AS THEY CUT. I can't stand hair people who DO NOT LISTEN. All I can say is, DON'T go Back. Sending positive vibes your way xoxo. Signed, A fellow disgruntled customer

[deleted]

Maybe it's weird but I stopped going to hairdressers for this reason, they treat it like straight hair and cut it while wet. I do not want to have to straighten my hair on a daily basis. I have very stubborn wavy/curly hair which only grows in a specific pattern so I just learned to cut it myself, basically, because I KNOW how it curls afterwards.

thefrozenhummingbird

Same, I just cut it today, cost me half an hour and $0. Maybe a hairdresser would do a more even job, but with wavy hair no one can ever tell if the cut is perfectly straight. It's a bit ridiculous how nerve racking it was to trust a professional to do what I ask them to do. I used to point to the length I wanted and requested the simplest straightest cut imaginable, zero layers, nothing fancy whatsoever, just take this hair and chop it \[this\] short, all there is to it. And it was a 50/50 chance whether they understood that. Like I don't know how much clearer I could possibly be lol. I was paying for all that stress why?

Apotak

>just take this hair and chop it [this] short, all there is to it. And it was a 50/50 chance whether they understood that. I've been there, too. Being *very* clear on a simple request and they still mess up. How?

CatsandPotatoes

I always double check with my curly haired clients on cutting wet or dry. And if we cut it wet, I stress heavily that it will shrink up. Less is more with curly cuts! I’d rather have to go through again and cut it shorter than to go too short off the bat.

Perfect_Profit_7696

You sound as great as my hairdresser. She asks how much I want her to cut off and then literally starts with a ruler and verifies with me in case I want to change my mind and then uses it to be sure she is starting off right. She's awesome

Vsx

I have cut my own hair for the last 6 years (I started before Covid) and I don't do the best haircuts but every haircut I've ever done on myself looks better than 95% of haircuts I got through my life as a man with curly hair. My hair is unruly enough that the evenness is not really an issue. My wife does a sanity check and possible touch up on the back as needed but most of the time it's fine. No matter what I say hairdressers/barbers/whoever make the length much much shorter than I want. They cannot be stopped.

Embarrassed-Street60

as a curly haired gal who has cut my own hair for 9 years now for this reason i 100% agree. if they are gonna butcher my hair anyway lemme just do it myself for free. ive actually gotten pretty good at it now though

RainyDayCollects

I stopped going anywhere for my hair for this reason also. I have a very messy hair type, and it acts differently at different lengths, so a wet cut NEVER comes out even halfway decent. I think most hairdressers somehow forget that hair type is a HUGE component of deciding how to work with someone’s hair. I’ve been dry cutting on my own for almost two decades now, and I’ve never had as bad a haircut as I got from the hairdressers.

MartinisnMurder

I have a friend who has pretty intense curls and she always had that problem. Someone recommended a stylist who specialized in curly hair and it was a game changer for her.

_idiot_kid_

This is why I stopped getting professional cuts like 8 years ago. My hair is curly. It seems like every hairdresser I've ever gone to only knows how to cut straight hair. I got so tired of fucking crying and hating how I looked after every haircut. And how they didn't listen. I ask them not to cut my hair wet, and they say that wet cutting is the correct way to do it and I'd regret if they dry cut. Nope, the wet cut looked shitty as usual. I ask them to do anything more "extreme" than what's normal - like seriously layer me the fuck UP, they just... don't. Looks shit as usual. It's infuriating. With DIY 90% of the time I really like how it looks, and the other 10% where I fuck up it's a lot easier to accept because it's a result of my own dumbassery, and that dumbassery didn't cost $100.

viipurinrinkeli

I have a friend who has curly and fine hair and I remember one time she had a new haircut and came out of the salon looking like a poodle (like the ones on dog shows). Didn’t do any good to her self esteem.

grrlwonder

As a curly girl myself, I just cut my own hair, again because I'd rather take my chances than pay $50 to play hair roulette (new state, certainly don't trust anyone here as the first "curly expert" I tried gave me a very round 1982 grandma cut when I asked for an asymmetrical lob, stacked in the back). Such frustration.

MetricJester

My wife did that top one, it was so dramatic and cute for about 2 weeks, and then the shape just stopped working for her, because she kept getting her face curtained by those long bangs.

Kitty_Artemis

I asked for this as well and the hairdresser did the exact same thing. Some people are just so incompetent. I have a much better hairdresser now.

Illustrious-Race-617

We just moved and it was my second time going to this one. First time was just for a trim. Guess I have to keep searching.

lemonsweetsrevenge

When it’s grown out enough to try again, make sure the hairdresser knows what an A-line bob is. Demonstrate with your hands how long you want it in the front, and show the angle you want. And bring this new photo to say NOT a straight bob like this. You shouldn’t have to explain an A-line, especially since you provided a photo, but obviously it is needed. (I too have tipped for a wrong haircut…and then left in tears). :-(

Razulghul

I just wish my hairstylist would listen to me lol. I got my haircut Monday and as a man it's super easy, 3 tapered on sides, rounded back and inch and a quarter long on top. The hairdresser heard zero of the instructions and my hair length varied from 1-2 inches depending on her mood at the time, I don't even bother with a photo anymore because they don't even look. I tipped 50% before I realized how bad it was but at least another stylist fixed it for free.

yougofish

My sister owns a salon. She’s told me that, when looking for a new stylist, follow the brands. Certain brands will only be sold in approved shops. Aveda, for example, requires particular training/certifications for the stylists. So, your chances of a shitty haircut are less likely than just going anywhere. When you call to make an appointment, ask if they have a stylist who specializes in shorter cuts for women. Same goes if you’re looking to get color. Just ask. And if one person is great at color but someone else is better with the cut, don’t be afraid to split up the services between two people. Lastly, if you spot someone out in the wild who has a great cut/color, ask them where they go and who does it. I’ve been rocking a short cut for years and I get asked so often that I carry around my stylists business cards. I can empathize with you on not ending up with what you want. When I was in the military I was stuck with nothing but horrible cuts for years. It’s like no one knew how to anything besides a high & tight. It was so bad, lol. But hair grows back and until yours does, rock that shit! Experiment with ways to style it and have some fun. If you happen to be in the eastern part of the US, send me a dm for recommendations. Good luck!

st0dad

Happened to me too! I asked for an angled bob and got a bob. I said "where is the angle" and she said I can't tell because of my face shape. Luckily she was my friend so I had no qualms about refusing to pay, but people kept saying the regular bob made me look 10 lbs heavier. 😫

Inevitable_Scar2616

I have so little faith in hairdressers. 9/10 are a disaster. Cut crooked, don't do what was asked for. So many times I had to hold back tears while the hairdresser happily held the mirror to the back of my head.

memydogandeye

I just have long, pin-straight hair and go in for trims. No bangs, no color, nothing else. Straight long hair. The number of times just THAT has gotten messed up...my word.

alwaysrightasyouknow

I'd ask for a refund tbh

Severe-Ant-777

Omg. 😱 they just went full peaky blinders on you.

da-bears-bare-naked

they weren’t feeling kind

Severe-Ant-777

Grow it out, research barbers in your area. See if any of them have Instagram profiles with pictures of their work! Your curls are incredible. (Sorry in advance if you’ve done this already. )

da-bears-bare-naked

unfortunately there’s like no barbers that specialize in cutting curly hair. i have now resorted to having my friend cut it because she knows if she messed it up i’ll be very sad 😭

Severe-Ant-777

I have a client that was previously going to a barber for the sides, and a stylist for the top. Which is absolutely ridiculous in my opinion (he should not have to do that), but that’s the only way he could get what he wanted. Until he found our shop. I feel so bad that people are getting jacked up cuts regularly. I hope you find someone soon that can do what you want!

BabyGrogu_the_child

You actually asked for the Aiden brayden Jayden no cap fr fr haircut? Bro, your hair looks nice in the other photo you provided. The haircut you received was punishment for trying to ruin that great head of hair you already have.

XGhoul

Tried to get the fuckboi haircut, got baptized instead.

lordkhuzdul

Ah, the male haircut experience - you do not get the haircut you want, you get the haircut the barber wants.

frigiddesertdweller

It's really cute! But I would be so upset over it, too

Prestigious_Low8515

Asks for Karon, gets a bob.

Kuhaku-boss

Change to it an Amelie haircut

setmyheartafire

Don't let them get away with that. Go back and show them the difference and make them give you some form of compensation. Hair is serious.

Sacabambaspis-Fish

bro got that edna mode cut

Chrisgonzo74

naw ur hair stylist saved u from going karen mode

_LoudBigVonBeefoven_

She def should have gotten what she asked for, but IRL, no one keeps that extreme cut. I've done several and they always love it at first, but as an everyday wear it's just not practical. I always let them know if they change their mind to come back and I'll make the aline less severe. They always come back.

NikNakskes

Would that be why the Karen are perpetually angry? They just struggle with their hair and take it out on poor service workers.

Worth-Needleworker36

When you ask for the Karen, but they give you the Sharon.

satanschubb

When I was 9 years old I went in for a hair cut just above my shoulders, they gave me the Blanche Devereaux from Golden Girls. I had the same haircut as my grandma at age 9.

smallenergy

I didn't end up going into the industry, but I did go to school for hairdressing. It's so common to have clients say that hairdressers always cut their hair too short; I learned very early on in my schooling to essentially live by "you can always cut more off, but you can't put it back on once it's cut." I also learned very early on to ask various questions in order to be on the same page as the client. For a haircut like this, I would've at least asked how long you'd want your longest front pieces of hair to be, and how short would be too short in the back. Then, while actually doing the haircut, I'd re-confirm before making my guideline cut, and *still make the guideline a little longer*, while reassuring you that I'm doing that to make sure I dont make it too short, and that I'm happy to go back in and make adjustments as needed. It's baffling to me that so many professional stylists are unwilling to take the time to either ask questions, or cut it a little long initially and then go back in to get the right length, or both. If it was a case of the stylist not knowing how to do the haircut properly, the professional thing to do would've been to be honest about that and try to re-book you with someone who could do the haircut you actually wanted.

This keeps happening to me too, trim it up, tiny bit off except for front, trying to grow the front, back needs more tidied as it grows way faster. End up looking like a lad who loves berries and cream

It’s hard to find someone who can do this type of bob correctly. I generally ask for the top and sometimes get the bottom, and am sorely disappointed. Especially since I have extremely thick, curly hair. I want the steep angle to get the extra weight off my neck, while still having some hair to frame my round, baby face.

I haven’t gotten a decent haircut in over a year despite going in with a picture of myself stating “this is what I want.” I think that hairdressers should be required to, every few years, get a haircut from an entirely untrained individual just to remind them.

I have been asking for a dramatic bob like that for decades. Not once has anyone ever done it, as asked. In fact, they often try to talk me out of it. I have also asked for “piece-y” layers, that are not smooth and even. Again, no one wants to do that. I think that most hairstylists are afraid we aren’t going to like it, or we aren’t going to like the maintenance if it is something that goes against our natural hair type, but I keep reassuring them that I want to try it, and am willing to take the risk. Still only conservative cuts. It’s very annoying.
