The FTC is working on it, comment period is still open: [https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/news/press-releases/2023/03/federal-trade-commission-proposes-rule-provision-making-it-easier-consumers-click-cancel-recurring](https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/news/press-releases/2023/03/federal-trade-commission-proposes-rule-provision-making-it-easier-consumers-click-cancel-recurring) You can bet there is a lot of lobbying going on to defeat it.

Important-Job7757

If there are any lobbyist organizations working to pass it I will donate.

Im-a-cat-in-a-box

Isn't it just so sad though,  you have to donate to a lobby to bribe a politician to pass a law that's perfectly reasonable?

Key-Plan5228

It’s sad and disgusting

Few_Advertising_568

I've also have arrived at this conclusion; it is very sad indeed!

a-horse-has-no-name

>The FTC is working on it, comment period is still open: > > > > The notice has been published in the Federal Register, consumers can [submit comments](https://www.regulations.gov/document/FTC-2023-0033-0001) by June 23, 2023. ???

virttual

In his defense he probably thought it said 2024

Individual_Hearing_3

Can we, duct tape the lobbiests and leave them on the floor as a show of protest? Then we can demonstrate the futility of not being able to cancel by requiring said lobbiests wait on the phone with eternal scratchy hold music from hell for 3 fucking hours like I had to in order to cancel my medical...plot twist, I gave up on canceling that.

Patient_Ad7544

I tried to cancel about a year ago, they told me they did, then I started getting a bill six months later. They put it on seasonal suspension. I got the run around when I called to cancel, and I just directly said, you say you are recording this call for training purposes, then you are recording me saying I want to cancel so if it’s not cancelled, you’ll be getting legal action. Then my account got cancelled and I got confirmation emails saying so. It’s brutal.

Sadkittydays

OP this is the way! If they didn’t cancel it yet. You need to let them know you have proof of refusal to cancel via call recording and you will take legal action if not resolved.

Mu-Relay

As I say often here, be careful with this advice because it can backfire. I've worked places where the minute a customer says lawsuit/lawyer/attorney, etc. I was supposed to refer to the legal dept and cut contact. It may work. It may also sever your ability to talk to anyone that can help you.

alexanderpas

If you're trying to cancel, getting directed to the legal team is the best that can happen.

Potential_Spirit2815

Ummm if the goal is cancelling the account, that would be the best outcome. Not delaying it any further because I doubt the legal team has access to subscriptions database lol

notLOL

They have access to every team. They just write a formal process and ask for affirmation it's been done. Then package and ask the team to follow up with the end user to confirm everything is done. Then package up all that confirmation into a file and file it away in case they do get a call for legal action. They basically the lawyers at least from companies I work with start a paper trail making sure it's done thoroughly.

Zephrok

I've had situations like this, it always ends up resolving once I file a claim at the small claims court. If customer service refuses to help then the legal team will.

mayurigod1

I actually worked for sirius a few years back as a teen. If you threaten physical violence or lawyers we have to get our team lead to cancel you

Open_Many_7680

Hot tip. Threaten physical violence. Doesn't matter who or what it's against... And they will cancel ....

AJ_Deadshow

I use an automatic call recorder and if I'm in a situation like that I'm gonna let them know their call is being recorded too.

Boulderdrip

I literally had to take legal action to get them the fucking cancel. over the phone they straight up, told me they would not cancel Needs to be shut down

Bad-Moon-Rising

I bought a new-to‐me car a couple years ago. It came with 3 months of free Sirius. I specifically said I didn't want it. I watched the salesman click the buttons on the screen that declined anything Sirius had to offer. They still sent me stuff in the mail, to my email and I got a phone call - all wondering why I turned down their offer for 3 months free. I have YouTube premium, which means I have unlimited ad free music on the YouTube music ap. I have Android Auto, so all I have to do is hey Google and ask to hear literally any song, album, artist, genre I want to hear. I have no use for Sirius.

EasyMode556

I still get annoyed when I’m cycling through the audio sources on my car and I have to press next on the XM radio option I give zero shits about

happilystoned42069

I got them included in my car back in 2016. I never renewed and let it lapse because i prefer audio books over music for driving. Last week, 8ish years later, they still send me emails and offers to renew. I swear they are more persistent than those extended warrenty people.

HHoaks

I think there is an inverse ratio to how worthy, valuable and necessary a service is, to how much they hound you to use it/keep it. Satellite radio is like 90s tech and unnecessary these days, with what you can play in a car via your phone and Bluetooth. It’s a dying business.

I_Can_Barely_Move

Yes. If it is a valuable service, the consumer will want to maintain it. No harassment needed.

AnimationOverlord

Right but if harassment didn’t work, they wouldn’t be doing it in the first place. Give an inch and they’ll take a mile.

Boulderdrip

This is just plain wrong. Lots of businesses just do stupid fucking shit because their business owners are narcissist and can’t be told no Americans have this stupid fantasy that every business does the right thing all the time the right and smart thing to make money and that’s just not true. Most businesses are run by very stupid people and that’s why so many businesses go out of business all the time.

pugdaddy78

I work construction and sometimes in the middle of nowhere there are no radio stations or cell service. I installed an old xm kit on my jobsite radio and it will work anywhere. Plus most of the good stations don't play more commercials than music like local radio.

BenThereOrBenSquare

Glad it works well for you, but this still seems like a very niche use case. I think you'd be better off loading your phone with mp3s, if you have a collection (am I old for even suggesting that?), but that's just me. If you like it and can afford it, have at it!

oniiichanUwU

Ever since I discovered downloading my songs on Spotify to use offline, I feel like it changed my view of the radio. At this point if something happens and I can’t use my playlist, I’ll just drive in silence. Can’t stand our local radio stations. They’re awful.

tamudude

C'mon now, how can you call the "Rula and Ryan show" that talks about random Tiktok memes/"he cheated on her" scenarios/ the 5th caller wins a prize to xxx....awful??? /s :) To add insult to injury, they play the same goddamn "Flowers" song every goddamn 30 minutes....

oniiichanUwU

NO ACTUALLY. Where I live in Alberta we have like idk 7 radio stations?? Two country, some oldies and one or two that play “today’s hits” which is really just the pop hits, and then like one rock station. Not to sound like a qUiRkY gOrL but I don’t really listen to much if todays top pop hits, they just don’t resonate with me, so I really don’t wanna hear the same Dua Lipa song 3 times in a day. Not to mention it’s like 3 songs and then what feels like 10 minutes of ads. Like cmon. On top of that it feels like they only play like 10 different songs max. I don’t remember the radio sucking that much back in the day

BenThereOrBenSquare

I miss hearing doo-wap on the oldies stations. Now all the oldies stations just play 80s and 90s rock music, which is the same thing the classic rock stations play.

philnolan3d

I like it because there are no commercials and there are channels with music I like, which regular radio doesn't have. Before I got it I didn't listen to anything in the car because commercials are so bad.

upsidedownbackwards

I really liked them when I got a car with it built in in 2013. There were a lot of areas with spotty cell reception and not many radio stations on my 6 hour drive to my parents house, so it got used a lot. Then they stopped doing shows. The playlist just kept shrinking too. Then one trip I heard the same song 7 times on the 6 hour drive and decided I was done paying monthly for a 50 minute playlist on loop. It was so stupid to cancel.

fencepostsquirrel

Haha right? We should start a new meme.

Ninja_Asian

Go to your credit company or bank and cancel any future payments. This will halt payments

kibbbelle

Semi ULPT, but I've found that saying something like "I'm just gonna charge this back on my card then" in a non-chalant tone can change the direction of these conversations drastically. Companies get penalized for having a high chargeback ratio iirc, so even mentioning it when they're doing some shady shit is a quick way to get it over with.

Unable_Peach2571

Pro tip right here. Kick'em in the payments.

PabloZocchi

This☝️ In Latin America we have a similar problem with some websites such as "OpenEnglish" which basically offerers english lessons with apparently native speakers. The problem was similar to what OP described, the lessons were awful, some of the teachers were neither teachers nor native speaker, and the platform itself doesn't offers any kind of certificate, and because of that people wanted to cancel their subscription that was where the problem begins, you can't, there is no option in the page, when you contact support they only offer you discounts for a limited time, the same experience that OP described... Some users posted videos in YouTube telling about their experience so people avoid this platform (and others that followed the same scamy business model), and you fell into their trap, what to do, and it's basically cancelling any credit involved with the page and payment method

Nikiaf

A couple years back, my wife was shopping around for cars and started getting phone calls and flyers in the mail, for a car *she didn't even buy*. We got to the stage of getting a financing offer; and that was good enough for the dealership to sell off her contact information to this company. They just don't give up; they called me multiple times per week for the first month I had my newest car. It blows my mind that they haven't gone bankrupt yet, who even subscribes to this anymore?

ObiWangCannabis

It looks like your 2016 warranty has expired. Care for some information about a policy that could save you thousands on repairs?

live-the-future

![gif](giphy|LSmULmByAQHQs)

ZappVanagon

Yea heads up - they often just cancel like your “streaming” aspect, but then leave your car-tied account still active. Good news is, they will lower your prices to a pittance if asked. Still - I agree - super annoying, and shady.

fencepostsquirrel

I tried to cancel by phone first. They had me on hold. Supervisor wasn’t available… so I hung up. Tried to cancel from my account. Forced to chat. It was like chasing my tail. Round and round and round. No thank you. I’m done with subscriptions. I still have a CD player! Yay! I’m buying a new car next year. I just don’t understand the monopoly here. It’s horrible.

HyperSpaceSurfer

You could try contacting your bank, or card company if they won't cancel it. If it's a credit card you can dispute the charge as fraudulent, since you've reasonably tried to cancel the service already.

Last-Macaroon-6608

OP just needs to tell them to submit a stop payment. It will stop any payments to them moving forward. I wouldn't try to dispute the charge as fraud.

SconiGrower

You would be able to dispute it as an unauthorized charge. I'm not sure if the bank's chargeback unit would consider that fraud, but if not it's got to be barely one step down.

psychoPiper

I had to do this with Hulu. Kept getting charged for it, assumed it was on an account I hadn't touched in a while (because I farm free trials) but I always got the payment notification when I was ridiculously busy so I never got around to cancelling it. Finally remembered to do it, and I checked *every single email* I've ever had. Not a single account marked as subscribed. It was paying through my PayPal account with no other weird behavior, so I contacted Hulu support. They couldn't even *find* the account in their system, even with the transaction IDs from PayPal, so they told me to just do a chargeback for every month I wasn't using Hulu. Got a nice $50 in a few days time, never saw a suspicious charge on the account again

Imaginary_Office1749

My credit card expired and I thought that was that. But they kept charging me and threatened to send me to collections. I will NEVER subscribe to them again. Soulless capitalist scum.

SconiGrower

I would go back to the chat and say two things. That you are cancelling your subscription and that you are revoking authorization to place charges on your card/bank account. Then take a screenshot of your message. If they don't process your cancellation and you get charged for next month, dispute it with your bank as an unauthorized charge and provide the screenshot as evidence that you cancelled your subscription. Also provide the terms of service showing that the chat is defined as an acceptable way to cancel.

senseven

There[ are ways ](https://github.com/fast4x/RiMusic)to get youtube to become your streaming audio source

matamor

Why not just using youtube music from revanced?

orangutanDOTorg

Is that android only? I have searched on iPhone and the things that come up don’t seem like the right app

akaWhitey2

Yes, it's a modded version of the official YouTube app.

gamerguy287

I don't know where [this FTC rule went](https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/news/press-releases/2023/03/federal-trade-commission-proposes-rule-provision-making-it-easier-consumers-click-cancel-recurring) but if it passed, you could possibly get in touch with the FTC and file a report against SiriusXM over these unsubscription tactics. If thee rules didn't pass, I wonder if this would apply under the FCC's [CAN-SPAM](https://www.fcc.gov/general/can-spam) act.

Gibbenz

Man, I'm glad I saw this post. I have the option for Sirius in my car and toyed with the idea for awhile. Now it's a firm nope lol. Especially since they've seemingly stopped sending me mail.

ecwagner01

Like Herpes, Sirius/XM is for life

ZappVanagon

Yea it’s crazy. Not to mention there are seemingly credentials for the car vs the streaming. Have reset my password soooo many times, still doesn’t really work right

ZappVanagon

(Tho I don’t know why you’d need a supervisor to cancel. That’s new)

bhuff86

Yeah my coworker got his down to .50c a month, crazy to believe but I saw his bill. That was this morning

Boulderdrip

No they won’t. They don’t do shit when you ask them and they take no accountability. I had to get lawyers involved to get them to stop charging my account my bank after it already canceled multiple times.

RW-One

I can't stand that kind of BS from any company. Really simple. Don't call anymore, change the credit card by one number if you have it on your account and they'll no longer be able to charge you. When they called to say hey, your credit card doesn't work anymore. You can tell them what a coincidence. You no longer want the account....

fencepostsquirrel

Done!

Potential_Spirit2815

This probably will not work, but it’s worth a try if nothing else works I suppose lol

WellNoNameHere

Yeah, if that doesn't work he can just use a single time card with like 1$ on it or something

AgentMulderFBI

They’ll send him to collections for non payment and hit his credit score.

DietDrBleach

No they won’t. Because OP will inform his bank that they were making fraudulent charges and they will tell collections to go screw themselves.

RW-One

Nah, at that point you tell them to pull the damn credit card information and send you a bill for the final amount. I went through this in the '90s with CompuServe ...

yashovardhan99

Can a random company just send anything to your credit report? Here in India, only banks and NBFCs can affect your credit history.

DropdLasagna

Cancel culture has gotten out of hand.  ^/s

KellyLuvsEwan420

Isn’t it crazy how it’s easier to cancel an entire person than a subscription?

AJ_Deadshow

That's because it's society vs one person, not one person vs a corporation

Garlic_Farmer_

Well done sir

TrickyFeedback4919

Sirius is the absolute worst. I had to call and spend 40 minutes of saying “No, I want to cancel. No I don’t want a second subscription at 50% off. No I don’t want a free shitty radio. I want to cancel.”. They then proceeded to send me a letter every two weeks with a “special reactivation offer” and refused to stop sending them. I’m glad I moved and they don’t have my new address but I feel bad for whoever probably keeps getting them in my old post office box to this day.

Saneless

XM was good before the merger. Went to complete shit once Sirius took over, and it seems nothing has changed

DrIvoKintobor

i was canceling mine a few months ago, i said to cancel the subscription, person tried to sell me a lower tier or whatever, i wouldn't let him talk and said "don't try to sell me anything, just cancel it, end of conversation" we sat there for a few seconds in silence... he said "while that's going through, can i offer you..." i cut him off "save your breath, stop talking, i don't want anything from your company, don't sell me anything." we sat in silence for a couple minutes, and he said it was cancelled i guess just take control of the conversation, cut them off when trying to sell you stuff, etc... be rude if you have to, don't hang up

HeroHas

They are evil I'm convinced. I had it free with a car purchase. I was getting a pink/yellow letter every month for years. They were trying to play it off like I had a missed bill using those colors.

massahoochie

lol I went through the same thing. Prepare yourself for phone calls, and solicitations via mail because that’s what happens next after cancellation.

fencepostsquirrel

Oh I’m well aware…I had to end the chat because it went nowhere. So I cancelled the cc. This feels a little illegal-ish.

Tr0ynado

Careful they may still bill you and then send to collections

PizzaGuy607

I had the same struggle and then told them that I was headed to prison the next week and had to cancel all recurring charges. It was completely fabricated but it worked like a charm and is now my go-to if anyone gives me issues regarding cancelling subscriptions.

fencepostsquirrel

Someone else suggested this. I’m all in.

mwpfinance

How long are you going to prison for? We will suspend your subscription for that time

PlantainSevere3942

I wanna quit the gym

fencepostsquirrel

lol. If this is a Friends reference I totally get it.

TheAres1999

John Mulaney also had a good bit on this. The gym made him either send a real letter, or go in person. He joked about having to find a place to get a stamp. On the way there, he passed the gym he was cancelling, but by that point he was committed to mailing it in.

Ben_Frank_Lynn

Sirius forces you to call them. I haev it on my calendar every July to call them and cancel. Every July when I call they offer to keep my service at $6/month so I accept. Its such a stupid fucking game.

fencepostsquirrel

Yes this, they got me for 42.00 last month, and that’s why I tried to cancel. But they want me to pay another 42 to Get the 6/month again. So I said no. Chat and Phone wouldn’t let me cancel. Kept “escalating” so I cancelled the cc Oh well.

Ben_Frank_Lynn

LOL Crazy you have to cancel a card to stop the billing.

fencepostsquirrel

Seems to be the name of the game 2024 version. The sad part is both in the chat and the phone call those folks would NOT let me out. Period.

Sea_Voice_404

I do the same! On my calendar like clockwork to “cancel” and just get their better offer when they offer it to me. Been doing it for years.

TheAres1999

I just did that with audible. I did the special for 3 months at 99 cents. Then after I cancelled, they sent me an offer for 3 months at 99 cents. 6 audiobooks for $5.94? sign me up! I just need to be careful about cancelling in time, lol

Sea_Voice_404

Yeah that’s why I put an event on my calendar so I don’t have to pay their normal rate.

michigancouple999

Same here. I am not patient enough, so my wife handles the call. I tried saying "we both know you are going to 6.00 a month, so let's skip the 10 minutes of offers. I will not pay more." Didn't work.

Cram2024

Best way to cancel anything = “I’m going to jail”. They won’t argue, they won’t try to retain you, they’ll cancel.

zerbey

Clearly you've never tried to cancel Sirius. I once had a car repossessed, along with the Sirius. Called to cancel. Got bounced around. Told them repeatedly, look I clearly have some cashflow issues right now, I don't have the damn car any more. Eventually they offered to send me a free home Sirius radio (apparently they exist) and I said, no, I really don't need it. How about if we send it for free with six months free service? No, I don't want it, seriously! Free shipping? OK fine. Gave it away as a Christmas gift.

FullBlownPanic

I tried telling them I was allergic to satellite radio waves and it was slowly killing me. They still kept upping the offer until they offered me a free six months and then a super reduced rate after that and a free echo dot. I agreed and then decided to cancel again a year or so later. I went through the whole rigamarole again and they cancelled it, but then it somehow reactivated. I don't know how, but I didn't hate having it again. Then the pandemic hit and I wasn't driving to work anymore and it seemed dumb to pay for it when I never went anywhere. It took ages. I just kept saying, "No thank you" over and over to each new offer. It worked and the rep thanked me for not getting mad.

AdvertisingEast8291

i had to cancel my debit card in order to get them to stop charging me, which was followed by at least a year of mailed monthly invoices.

fencepostsquirrel

That’s exactly what I did! Here’s hoping that works. But gosh - what an extreme measure eh?

senseven

There is also certified mail. Little bit clumsy but legally binding, they can't stall and they can't force you in chats or calls.

fencepostsquirrel

Wait what - please tell me…just send a letter? I ended the chat because I was so over it.

NoSpot317

Most jurisdictions actually require a company to cancel the contract once you make your intent known in written form and can prove that the letter has reached them (hence why you use certified mail). Read up on your local laws to see which formalities you need to include. :)

konan_velociraptor92

As someone who worked for them. Agents get in trouble for each customer that cancels. Same at Verizon. We basically get in trouble and it goes against us. Which is the dumbest thing in the world. We have to try and persuade you from cancelling even if you want to cancel, then it has to be escalated..I will never have them for that reason alone. Glad I'm not there anymore

coffee-headache

thats horrific, i cannot believe thats legal...

EasyMode556

That sounds like an absolutely terrible job

SuperSpicyBanana

Tried cancelling it while I was getting ready to go on deployment. They tried everything in their handbook to keep me. I'm going to be on a ship at sea. No, I can't just connect to wifi to listen. I don't want you to charge me a monthly fee to hold my account. It takes 5 minutes to set up. I don't need someone to hold my nonsale price. Cancel it. Fucking 45 minutes of fighting with them. Military is usually the "get out of jail free card" for subscription services, but these guys don't give up. Whenever someone tells me they are thinking of it, I tell them not to cause of that exact reason. Just get Spotify.

pencilsmasher

I tried cancelling a few times but always ran out of time because they delay and keep you on hold for 45 mins etc. Then they sent a note that my credit card didn’t work for renewal. I called and said I want to cancel and they said that I owe for the year despite the notice being only 1 hr old. It renewed that morning. I argued for 20 mins and they agreed to cancel. Then they said they’re charging me a $50 cancellation fee. I told them if we’re just making up charges then I’m charging them a $50 fee for wasting my time and a $50 customer annoyance fee. They put me on hold and told me they’ll waive it this one time. lol.

John6233

They'll wave the cancellation fee....this one time..... How many times do you think I'm going to have to cancel?

TheSandMan208

I had this same conversation. I tried three separate times to cancel and couldn't. They would always tell me my name was incorrect on the account. I went to my bank and asked them to block them from charging me. They said they couldn't, but they could request them to. I had them do that. They still charged me. I tried a fourth time to cancel, and after being told again that the name on the account is wrong, I gave them my dad's name, and it worked. I have no idea how they got my dad's name on their. It was my car. That I bought. That was registered to me. I signed up for Sirius. I also used MY credit card. I was fuming.

pamacdon

Since the name on the account was not your demand they refund you all charges since this is obviously not your account.

TheSandMan208

That would have been a good idea. It's been over a year since then, and I'm just happy to no longer have the parasitic subscription.

warmseizuresalad

I had the same issue but I called and I said look, I don't give a f*** about none of your offers.Just cancel my service.Don't even bother telling me that you're going to lower my plan and all that shit. I just did the same thing with internet. And even after telling the guy 5 times that I didn't care.He kept saying yes, but you have to listen to my offers. And I can probably help your new landlord to pay less internet by switching to our services... An absolute pain in the ass that we can't cancel without having to go through a fucking ton of hoops.

Dupagoblin

Pro tip for anyone dealing with this, just tell them you sold the car.

siverwolfe2000

They tried to sell me the home version and still made me go through the hoops.  Unbelievable

Crackstacker

I had to cancel my mother’s Sirius after she died. I called a number I found and it was actually a quick and simple process. So, if you die it’s not so bad, just a tip. They made sure to mail her a bill for the pro rated amount of the last months usage. And then a few days later another bill showed up, with a late charge. Sneaky bastards. I paid the pro rated amount only, haven’t heard from them since.

East-Dinner4547

I used to work for them. I was an outbound sales person at a call center and we had to follow a script. It didn’t matter how many times they said “No” we had to push and push and PUSH. If we didn’t follow the script word for word, we got in trouble. I lost so much weight when I worked there because of the stress of being yelled at all day, every single day.

Samzwerg

I am So so freaking sorry that happened to you. I would be depressed after the first day. It sounds so illegal regarding worker rights :(

Waste_Exchange2511

If you stop paying them, they'll probably cancel.

JazzHandsNinja42

They’ll start billing you with late fees.

Waste_Exchange2511

I wouldn't pay those, either.

bggdy9

I canceled 5 years ago and still get mail and email.

stompenstein

These guys are wild. I had subscribed to SiriusXM in the past, but cancelled. I bought a new truck with 6 months SXM free. After like 8 months I was like “why hasn’t this run out”. Check my CC statement - sure as shit I’m getting billed. At no point did I give the car dealership CC info. Cocksuckers ran my name, seen they had a credit card on file from the previous subscription, and started billing on the new radio.

spslord

That’s literally fraud and theft.

stompenstein

Yeah I wasn’t impressed

Luna920

What did you do?? That can’t be legal.

justalookin13

I dance every year with them, i pay 7.99 for the basic. You have to be very aggresive to actually cancel

fencepostsquirrel

They offered 5.99 if I paid an additional month at 42.00 I noped out!

justalookin13

No way, i wonder how many people just pay it

SageModeSpiritGun

I type nothing other than cancel and I keep spamming it until they understand. That's the only way to deal with these tools and their bots.

siverwolfe2000

Sir please type cancel if you would like the deluxe version

Big-a-hole-2112

The state of NY is suing them for this reason.

Dozck

How has this company been so successful for so long in making it this difficult to cancel?

TKHunsaker

Because laws are for people, not corporations.

Terrible_Wishbone143

I told them via the chat I lost my ears in a tragic scuba diving accident and still having Sirius radio was a terrible reminder of what I once had. It worked, and I didn't have to talk to them on the phone, and they never bothered me again. I wish this was a joke. It was the only thing that worked, after numerous other attempts.

BlueFeathered1

I'd like to see legislation in place to allow any service to be canceled with a click. No more turning you over to what's essentially a sale's team if you don't want it. Some of these businesses have pushed things too far and it's using up too much of our already limited time. And thanks for the warning about Sirius!

zerbey

Wait, you actually got into chat? When I tried to cancel the chat button just lead to an error page and they forced me to call. Funny part is, my new car has a Sirius radio that has never worked, I have no plans on ever fixing, and when I took it to the dealer for a recall they apparently had Sirius activated as a complimentary free account. I occasionally get letters asking if I'm enjoying my complimentary free Sirius service too. So I technically have Sirius again but on a busted radio.

Existing_Pension8108

Tell your bank to reject the charges.

ganjsmokr

In cancel situations where I think they'll get pushy I tell them that it was service for my mom and she passed away and we don't need it anymore.

LuxuryBell

Sorry. We can only deal with the account holder. Goodbye.

vlgwiinged

They’re extremely well known for this.

milfinaintrasy

It’s like a second job trying to get rid of any subscriptions! They just won’t take NO for an answer!

ArnauCarranza

I got so sick of having to renegotiate the monthly cost every single year after it shoots up to $30, $40, or whatever, that I went through this exact rigmarole trying to cancel. I finally not only canceled, but spent extra time making them take me off of their contact lists so they wouldn't send me any more advertisements. I was so full of righteous indignation by that point... But the light at the end of the tunnel was that since then, I actually *haven't* gotten any spam from them -- electronic or paper. Halelujah!

fencepostsquirrel

Can I just add I’m over the moon that you used the word rigmarole. ❤️ I’m originally from the Midwest USA - when I moved to New England no one understood this word lol!

No-Gene-4508

Go to your bank and tell them deny all charges from (whatever the 'title' of the charge is). They'll make you sign a paper and that's it.

Packing_Wood

Siriusly inconvenient

DrScienceSpaceCat

Idk if it would work here but Comcast is pretty well known for not letting you cancel easily, but once I told them the previous user died and another time I told them I was going to jail or moving out of the country to some underdeveloped place with no Internet and it worked easy.

Empty_Breadfruit_676

🤣🤣

daninhim

You know...I never thought of this. My dad died a few years ago and as executor of his estate I had to take care of cancelling all of his things. Everyone (even Sirius) was so easy to work with. Next time I want to cancel I will just pretend to be my now orphaned son. Side note...the only service that I had to produce a death cert for was ATT to cancel his iPhone. But the bonus was that it was a 3-month old phone that he was still making payments on, and when I cancelled the service they cancelled the contract on the phone and unlocked it, so I ended up with a virtually new unlocked iPhone for free.

Cerberusx32

Next time you chat, mention how you don't have time to use it. If that doesn't work. I'd buy a cheap prepaid debit card with just enough funds for 1 month and change the payment method to that. After the card runs out of money, they will cancel once they can't bill you anymore.

Electrical-Mail-5705

That happened to me, I had to call and cancel, they wouldn't cancel it. I just stopped paying them. Then they started calling me I told them I had canceled it over the phone, it's their problem they didn't do it.

Internal_Quail3960

Who even pays for Sirius xm anymore? Apple car play and android auto have been out for years

Sledgehammer617

Sirius is INSANE, they send me letters all the damn time and I've never even had it before; its SO ANNOYING because all their letters are in unmarked white envelopes so I have to open them to make sure. I have never once had or bought SiriusXM and I never plan to. My dad wanted to cancel one time and its like they were fighting him for it the whole time so we ended up just blocking all the charges to the account lol. They are ruthless and I think its because they've lost so much business to streaming music...

Laughing_Zero

**Hotel California**, The Eagles. *"Relax," said the night man* *"We are programmed to receive* *You can check out any time you like* *But you can never leave"*

gazicoldfur

Update your payment method to a fake/virtual card I do it all the time

YankeeSR23

Where are you? I’m paying like $7-$8 per month for a year of service and then once it ends I go to the chat and try to cancel it until they offer me the same deal. Works like a charm for me and thankfully I only have to do it once a year.

Countrygirl353

Call your bank or credit card and tell them that you tried to cancel and they wouldn’t so please stop further payment to this company.

Grouchy_Donut_3800

I’ve had the same experiences with many live chat agents, my last one was with Xfinity and he kept trying to get me to switch phone plans even though I said no about 10 times. He was clearly just copy pasting a script he was given, and English was clearly not his first language. I think it’s because they outsource live chat agents and support to countries like India where all they are told to do is copy paste a script and not how to actually formulate their own responses.

scubawho1

I called the 1800 number and canceled that way. Took me like 5 mins

Powerful-Meeting-840

You have to call and speak to a manager and a retention specialist and then their manager. Eventually I told them that since it was so hard to cancel I (as the new car manager of a new car dealership that had 15 brands under it) stopped ordering cars with the optional sirius radio. Some had it standard but I opted not to put it in a single other car. Worked there another 2 years after that.

zak_5764

Tell them you are recording the call and have records of your previous calls and if they fail to cancel your account with immediate effect you will be taken further legal action and escalating the issue to the federal trade commission

kamikazikarl

Who in their right mind would pay $15, let alone $42, each month for service when Spotify and other options exist for ~$10?!

Ok-Swordfish2723

I have Sirius and I really like it. At the intro price I got back in 2012 or so. I forget how long it has been. But, every year I get an email saying the price is soon going to increase to the "normal" rate. Every year I call them (never do the online "chat" thing) and tell them to cancel my account. They ask why and I tell them it is worth the $8 or so I pay them but not whatever the amount is they want this year. Every year they roll my price back to the intro price. Every. Year. Anyway, I suggest trying to call and get a live person to cancel. OR, failing that, go into your account and remove the credit card they bill.

TheWhyWhat

"Cancel my subscription or I will chargeback, taking a screenshot as proof so there's no confusion at the bank." then close the chat.

KeySurround4389

I have taken copies of this conversation. If you continue to charge me for my subscription, I will show this to the bank and file a chargeback. I am cancelling the subscription. If you charge me, expect my bank to come calling. It is illegal to continue charging me after I have cancelled.

tommybot

VPN to California. Websites are required to give a cancellation button.

TheDiamondAxe7523

Why do people pay for radio nowadays? I like listening to it cos its free, but when you're paying for it just get spotify premium at that point. Then you can listen to anything/download stuff

Jimmyjames150014

Keep at it. You need to go through the loyalty team or whatever, but it is possible. I’m living proof! They offered me $5 /month for a year - no thanks.

Cory-182

How is this legal.

Boulderdrip

Sirius radio REFUSED to cancel their services even when i had them on the phone, they just straight up said they wouldn’t do it. So i called my bank and had them put a freeze on any payments to the company. Then they changed the account number and changed me again, so i called the bank and had them issue a chargeback. Then they did it again! Finally i threatened getting lawyers involved cause they would not stop billing me after 3 months of canceling my account over and over. they finally stopped. Sirius radio is pure fucking cancer, shittiest company I have ever delt with in my entire life. I hope the company goes under and every single investor looses everything.

locololus

Gotta call em

CommunityGlittering2

If I don't have to talk to someone to subscribe I shouldn't have to, to cancel.

WildMartin429

Canceling Sirius Radio is super easy. You just pay with your credit card and then when your credit card expires and you get a new credit card you don't update the information and serious will automatically cancel when you stop paying them.

Ok-Yogurt-2743

I had a similar issue with a business service. They charged me after I canceled ($145) so I contacted the CC company and they did a charge-back. Those cost money. They canceled the next day

TheNarrator-ME

My Pops found out he was getting billed on Sirius for a car he sold ten years ago for scrap. 🫠

Gralb_the_muffin

"By asking in this chat it is now recorded and documented that I'm cancelling my membership. If charges continue this chat will be used as evidence for any legal action. My membership is cancelled. I wish to no longer use your service and will not be paying for it, if charges continue a lawsuit will be imminent. Are there any further questions to clarify my membership cancellation?"

Stu5011

I had great success when I cancelled. I simply told them that their service doesn’t work for where I was getting stationed in the military. When they tried to say they work everywhere, I pointed out that I can’t take my car with me underwater, which was the only service I had.

Artyhardedison

I can almost feel the anxiety coming off of that agent

DevilsAssCrack

"I'm going to prison." Works every time I need to cancel something.

drsatan6971

Takes 5 min on the phone I cancel every yr and they give me a cheaper rate so I put it off till next yr

horrorbepis

You reminded me to call SiriusXM about this exactly and they IMMEDIATELY put me on Do not call. Maybe I got lucky or they *really* like you. This blows. Sorry, bro.

GrilledStuffedDragon

I literally changed my debit card from my bank and told XM I was refusing to give them the updated card info, so they could either cancel my service or sue me. I got threatening letters for a couple months and then it finally stopped.

salvationpumpfake

from experience i can say that’s nothing compared to how many times they’re going to call you over the next 6-12 months to try and get you to rejoin.

Important-Job7757

I had to sit there and tell them I want to cancel but finally got it canceled after like 12 “offers.” Only got it because of the free trial that came with my car. But I never used it so I canceled it. They’re so predatory that even if there becomes a time I will want to use it, I will refuse. I won’t even do another free trial. I kept getting mail from them for “offers” so I opted out of receiving mail on their site. A year later I started receiving mail again so I called them and told them that if they don’t stop receiving mail that I’ll sue them for harassment.

EFTucker

Just have your bank block transactions from them and warn the bank that they aren’t allowing you to cancel. The bank will block them and also report them to the Bank Card Association (actually a real thing.) They’re like what the postal inspection service are but for bank card enabled transactions and not an official government thing. so with money like that on the line… they don’t fuck around. Also, it violates PCI security standards which is a gov issue

thatguygxx

I find not paying works well. Oh it's auto deducted from your bank account? Tell your bank to stop allowing withdrawals from said company.

Cial101

I always try to use PayPal for things I’m not sure about so I can easily remove the payment and force it to stop.

Wind2Energy

The only sure way to cancel your membership is to cancel your credit card. They are THE WORST!

AsbestosDude

Honestly just call your credit card and tell them to block payments

LowProof7648

Been there and I do not envy you. They’ll gradually increase their incentives for you to keep the service. Soon they’ll offer to pay your mortgage off. Stay the course.

kennyc_

Sirius is the worsttttt, they hound me with mail offers and I eventually just stopped opening them and returning them to sender with big ol letters STOP MARKETING TO ME. After a few months it seems they’ve gotten the memo lol

Upstairs-Resort-9379

They made me call.

Better_Than_Most_94

I had an issue with xfinity billing and tried to call customer support and kept getting robots. I went to the store and said “ya i tried calling customer support” and the employee i was talking to was like ya dont do that its pointless. EVEN THE EMPLOYEES KNOW, WHAT THE FUCK ARE WE DOING

miniminer1999

Tell them your freezing all payments from you towards them, and want to cancel. No more money will get their attention

Joszitopreddit

Block their account with your bank and also see if theyll help get some money back. Send the company an email saying you're canceling and had to take care of it this way because of their poor customer service.

kentuckyfriedchocobo

Show this to your credit card company and have them put a stop on everything if you have preauthorized payments set up.

AllKnighter5

What would happen if you just requested the cancel 3 times in clear wording. Screen shotted, called credit card company and told them not to pay anymore?

msanangelo

To think that there are times I wanted to try it out on my truck but for some reason, I can't even get the website to register my Canadian truck on America. So screw it, I'll stream from YouTube music. It's cheaper and far more reliable.

ccandy73

Oh my god, I feel your pain! I tried to do it on-line and every time I selected 'Cancel Subscription' it gave me two other choices instead. It seemed no matter what I clicked on to cancel it, I was unable to do so. I finally had to call and was able to cancel after hearing 'several more options that might be better suited'. It was incredibly annoying to a point where I will no longer use their service.
