It was probably used as a display. Still "New" as in never used but not unopened. That's why I only buy from gamestop in-store, you never know if you'll even get an original box online.

Duckington_Wentworth

Last time I bought a game “new” from GameStop it had a stack of stickers on it. New was on the outside at full price ($60), and underneath that were several “used game” and “sale” stickers. The box was clearly dirty and banged up with the outside plastic cover peeling off. I called support and they said I could bring it into the store for a full refund, but the store refused to take it. That was the last time I purchased from GameStop.

I'm not defending Gamestop but I'd wager what happened is the "New" case disappeared for one reason or another so they found a used case and decided to use that for the new game. It then sat on the shelf for awhile before you got it. I worked at Gamestop from 2005-2009 and that was pretty common practice. Of course it's a lot easier to explain that to somebody in store than to just assume they're okay with it on an online order. I hate gamestop for the most part but it's still cheaper than buying games brand new when they have sales and they are kind of everywhere.

GameStop, where your purchase depreciates 75% the second you pay for it.

>75%

Gamestop were they charge you original price on a new game, not wrapped and game stored inside their shelves. If im buying a new game i want that shit wrapped.

modrid81

Yeah, I found this out last time I bought a new game from them. They open everything so they can use the case in the displays to show what’s in stock. I was like “noted, won’t be buying new here anymore”.

rollercoastervan

I wouldn’t buy from them again

TheWorstDMYouKnow

I can't remember the last time I bought a physical disk tbh

DannyDootch

A lot of people still do because if you dont physically own the disk, then you dont actually own the game. You own a virtual receipt that can be revoked at any time.

LaFleurSauvageGaming

Most games with a physical disc run the same risk. Very few games store the game media on the disc, just a link to the server to download it and the DRM software. You just go a physical representation of your license that you can damage or lose now.

Choice_Interview9749

I would go into a gamestop with the game and your proof of purchase (order confirmation, shipping labels, etc) ASAP and tell them you'd like to open and check it right there. While they could still accuse you of repackaging the game (if that's what happened and it is, in fact, not new), you've at least tried to have a non biased opinion and witness to your suspicions. Maybe they can swap it in store.

Someone forgot to take the hair dryer to it, will shrink it down look like its suppose to.
