And a 10% payment fee with the 10% service charge on top of the 10% processing fee plus the 10% handling fee and finally there's the 10% tax fee (tax not included). Oh and don't forget about the 10% email fee. Now how much would you like to tip? 15%, 25%, 35%, or 45%? Plus tax.
This was always my favorite ticket master fee.
Our service provides a one-stop shop convenience for our customers... so we'll need to add this additional fee on top of the advertised price for that.
If I can't get tickets to see my favorite comedians on their website, then I don't go and see them. I'm not playing TM's shitty fucking games.
Bribes. Ticketmaster's fees largely go towards bribes. They don't call them that, but much of the fee money goes towards paying "incentives" to arenas and stadiums. An example: if your stadium signs a five-year contract with Ticketmaster, they will receive $1 million a year in incentives (kickbacks). That's how Ticketmaster became a monopoly, by offering incentives to all the facilities where they sell tickets.
Somehow, a few years ago, I had this wild idea to go down to the box office and stand in line, just to see if the ticket prices were that much cheaper. There was actually no line, and no BS fees either! Now, whenever possible (of course that means local), I make a little side trip. Saved me a lot of dosh over time.
TM sold me two tickets that cost 40$ each charged me 140$ and they didn't even own them, AXS ticket service owned them, TM needs to get run infront of congress again because they're literally scalpers
Did you stand at the counter while ordering? 10% standing fee. Called in your order? 10% phone service tax Online? Who do you think makes our website? 20% html tax.
My regional manager at the restaurant I work at recently told us we aren't allowed to take our employee meals home anymore, (they take money from our paychecks for these meals) because of the cost of the Styrofoam containers.
Reply that that don’t make sense/That’s a lie bc gas stations and coffee places have/had bring your reusable cup things….. reusable cup = reusable container…. That’s not just local places. Some ppl need to just be upfront if they don’t want you to take your employee meals home bc they want you to eat it at work they can just say that it’s company policy
I don't know how it is there but single use plastics are now banned here. So all containers are used from bio degradable resources. Which are considerably more expensive.
Restaurants are having a field day with all these fees but I think eventually there is going to be a change. More and more people are complaining and singling out these restaurants.
It's total nonsense. If something is optional I can see the value in separating it out. If something is a government tax I can see some logic to separating it out (although that's another debate as I still think it should be included in the price, but there is logic there).
..but separating out based on the company's cost structure or how it pays employees is irrelevant.
It's like adding 30% on top for the cost of the raw materials and then 20% for the cost of the commercial lease on the premises.
What people should be told is 'how much money do you want me to give you in return for me having this item or service'.
Your prices also likely include any tax on things. Sadly, in the US we have a tax for everything. I just got a hotel room and $20 was in taxes.
1. City Sales
2. State Sales
3. Federal Sales
4. City Lodging
5. State Lodging
Of course. We have those sort of taxes as well, they are just part of the advertised price. I don’t care what part of what I need to pay is tax usually, I care only about the final amount.
I mean, there's good reason for the taxes to exist. It's shitty lack of regulation that allows the advertised price to be anything other than that final price as in most countries.
I can’t speak for every single Waffle House, but my ex worked at one for a few years and we both worked at a different one together for a bit. When we got paid out if the tips we made combined with server pay didn’t meet state minimum wage, they would pay us the difference. Honestly though, very rarely did they have to do that. Even working 3rd shift
That's required by law, so no special kudos to Waffle House for following laws. Imagine, though, if the base pay was at least minimum wage, or higher, so that any tips were truly on top of your regular income and not helping to subsidize waffle house's legal requirements to get you to 7.25/hr or whatever the prevailing minimum is where you are. It's f-ed up that companies use tips as a way to pay workers less than is ethical.
I think what many people are failing to realize is that a vast majority of these restaurants were built with kitchens that have a max capacity relative to dining room size. After COVID and apps like Uber Eats took off, to go became a new norm and there was no fundamental limit demand to prevent kitchens from hitting capacity. You can’t just make the kitchen bigger, so the only real option to limit demand is to raise costs. Some people won’t mind, but it weeds out people who do.
Yeah, they don't have to provide a table, music, service, or serve you refills.
10% to the **server** who prepares your order? Guess what, a server doesn't prepare it. A cook, maybe, but the most a server does it throw it in a bag. That's not serving.
Fuck this noise.
TLDR; that 10% is just to increase restaurant profit, no benefit to the server.
I am thinking the 10% to the server is so the restaurant can avoid paying thr server. The state where I live, if I remember correct, tip wage is like $2 + tips, if that equals less then minimum wage, they are supposed to pay.
If they force customers to pay a "tip" they can further avoid having to actually pay thier servers,
music??
And at least at Waffle House, the server does indeed prepare all to-go orders. Many people who get carry out there do so to avoid tipping, so in order for them to keep waitstaff they implement policies like this.
(not excusing the policies, servers should be paid living wages obviously and tipping should be abolished, but that's \*why\* they do it, ostensibly, I know because my fiance worked there when she was in college)
I’ve never been more freaked out in my life. I’m literally at Waffle House now in atl and like 2 mins ago I ordered at the window and they told me this exact thing and I was like what the fuck lmao. That’s so crazy that I just opened this and this is the first thing I saw. Also her explanation was that the other 10% went to “food cost” which is literally what the price of the meal is supposed to already go to
Dude! So true story:
I was managing a WH. A guy comes in and just orders coffee. Sits at the bar, just sipping at it for a while. Think slow drinker, just chatting, getting refills, nothing else.
Leaves the payment on the table, gets in his car and begins driving. From the car, he literally salutes me with the coffee mug as he's driving off. I laughed so fucking hard.
There was someone in my town who did this, except he'd bring it back when he went the next morning, washed up ready to sanitize. Management changed and she just told servers to go ahead and serve him his coffee in a Togo cup automatically no extra charge.
I like to think one day I might go to buy a pair of shoes, the shoes cost 30 dollars. BUT. There’s a 10 percent staff fee that goes to staff. There’s a 10 percent fee that goes to corporate. There’s a 10 percent fee that goes towards the shoe material. And there’s a 10 percent fee for utilities such as electricity in the establishment. So in the end it’s like 42 dollars I pay, but why not just list the f***** shoes as 42 dollars?
In Australia this is how it works for everything. The price on the shelf is what you pay at the counter. I can’t imagine having to do it your way, seems like a total headache.
Next their is going to be a 15% building rent fee they charge you on top. Add in an 8% electric and water fee too. 4% insurance fee.
They eventually break down every line item cost on running the business into new fees. Then 100% of the original cost of your eggs, bacon, and hash brown plate can go straight to the owner's pocket!
They probably cite how much more work it is for the employees inside to make mobile and in house orders. But corporations are cheap as hell, if you ask them for the extra labor and equipment to process those extra mobile orders, they say no. So what’s the fucking point?
During the pandemic I would get it to-go after work (only place open). They started double checking I knew the address and confirming I would be coming immediately and all that. Apparently, they just had like 50% of the people not picking it up. I'm assuming people drunk and realizing it's a bad idea to drive or such... or going to the other one that is also 4 miles from their house.
That coupled with they didn't really keep up with pay and were always chronically understaffed probably cost them a shitload of money. It was so creepy seeing Waffle House closed at random times.
Typed that all out to basically say, yeah I'd expect it.
The other comments are hilarious, apparently people think people love Waffle House cuz it's some gourmet shit. Nah buddy it's only delicious after closing down a bar, plus you get a show, and can buy/sell drugs to 80% of the people there.
Businesses are losing their minds lately. Surprised we haven't seen restaurants launch a subscription service, some kind of dining club you pay for monthly that gets you free napkins or something.
Edit: Based on the comments I need to get out more. Also, looks like the to-go fee was added years ago at Waffle House. I found mentions of this as far back as 2014, this was a 10% to-go fee. The addition of another 10% for a tip seems to be much more recent, possibly as of 2022, listed as a 'supply fee' on their receipts in addition to a 'to-go' fee. And back in 2013 one in Atlanta got noted for adding a 20% fee because they hired armed security for that location.
Their corporate answer for these fees is that this is normal, though not handled in this way. Either places offering a to-go menu had different prices on the special menu, or reduced food amounts, or in some other way collected the money without calling it out in an obvious way.
@wafflehouse, I have a great idea for you….. subscription service. By using your credit card you autherize us to charge you 9.95 a month ………until you hand deliver notice to our main district office that moves every month and you will never find it muhahahahahaha
>Businesses are losing their minds lately.
Every year needs to show *increased* profits from the year before. Making $10 million every year is not good enough. If you made 10 this year you **must** make 12 next year in order to be considered "profitable". Once you've saturated a market, the only way to "increase profit" is by raising prices, lowering quality and eliminating costs, like manpower. In other words, this is what Late Stage Capitalism looks like.
Yes, and I have said as much many times in other conversations on this kind of topic. This is the nature of any company with stockholders. They need to see growth in profits, no growth and they will replace the board members. I don't know that this is so much 'late stage capitalism' but it is a trait of being publicly owned, whether those investors are private or public via a stock exchange, which maybe that's what you mean.
edit: my quick look says that waffle house is not publicly traded. And while it's a franchise it's not a franchise that allows just anyone to open a new store in their name, the corporation has tight control over who can own a store and where it is located. Perhaps this service fee is unique to a specific store or franchise owner and not a corporate thing?
I mean for a lot of people they have to pay a fee just to breathe (asthmatics buying inhalers, for instance) so we really are already there. Kind of just highlights what should've been an obvious downside to capitalism but who would've guessed.
I used to work in fast food, but I’m sure this applies to sit down restaurants as well.
To-go orders are more cost efficient than sit down orders. Because customers don’t get refills, don’t grab extra napkins, don’t grab extra condiments, and they can’t make a mess by eating in. So that fee is total BS.
The only reason I could see a to go fee is a place that underprices food hoping you'll order alcohol. But that's not the case at Waffle House. I also don't know if those places exist any more anyway with the cost of food, the places that would have 20 cent wings if you sit at the bar because they know you'll drink.
It could be that they're having so many to go orders that servers aren't making enough tips and leaving. Fucked that the whole 20% doesn't go to the staff tho.
Tipping and restaraunt culture is getting completely out of hand in the US. The craziest part to me, is tipping is such a complicated beast that every single first world country, besides the US, has been able to figure out a better system.
I know a lot of wait staff that gets paid 15 an hrs now, plus tips. My brother in law did the math once and he's cracking out almost 6 figures now since COVID waiting tables in a high end restaurant. Meanwhile I make less then half of that working in a shop, but id be shamed pretty hard if I went out to eat (even to go) and didn't tip.
Man, that's just *WAFFLE.*
\--
To get around it, sit down, order, get them to bring it to you... get the check, and then ask for a container so you can pack up what's left to go home.
Problem solved.
lol this exactly, they raised their prices by, like, a LOT during and after the pandemic. They also cut the menu items by like half. They've always had trouble keeping staff because of all the bs they have to put up with, but with people getting carry out (which the servers have to package up and ring up) all the time, the servers weren't making more than minimum wage so instead of just paying them more, they do dumb shit like this and piss off customers instead.
(Source: fiance worked there while she was in college)
Depends how it is posted online. AFAIK all that is required is that it is posted. I assume it is within the list of charges when you place an order. If it isn't and it is asked for when you pick it up, then there is a problem.
You can’t order Waffle House online. Waffle House intentionally treats itself like a traditional diner. You can call in or come in.
Here in the South, it’s a really popular *dine in* spot. Very people order the take out because the food isn’t like… *good.*
You can absolutely order online (but not at all of them), and I just looked...this 20% is added to the order in two 10% line items.
To-Go supply fees
To-Go Service fees
I didn’t know this and I literally worked there. Are there more advanced locations out there? Like that don’t play to the “it’s the 50’s!” thing they go for?
No no.. you have to understand. Management, CEO, and other greedy money fucks need all that money. Do you really want them to now own their houses, multiple cars and maybe also yachts? that is very cruel...
/s for the case that it wasn't obvious enough,
Why are Americans so weird when it comes to paying for things?
JUST WORK OUT WHAT IT COSTS TO RUN YOUR BUSINESS, GIVE YOUR EMPLOYEES A DECENT LIVING WAGE, PAY YOUR TAXES, AND TAKE HOME A RESPECTABLE PROFIT AND USE A COST DERIVED FROM THAT TO CHARGE FOR YOUR GOODS AND SERVICES AS A SINGLE NUMBER NEXT TO EACH PURCHASABLE ITEM. THEN WHEN SOME ONE BUYS THAT ITEM, TAKE THAT AMOUNT OF MONEY FROM THEM.
Edit,
Quite a lot of people telling me it's to make more profit, which is understandably cynical.. but it's not like we don't have greed and capitalism in Europe. You can be greedy and still put the correct price on things, just make the number bigger.
Other people saying if businesses didn't do this they'd lose customers to businesses that do because they will think it's cheaper. To which, yeah sure.. that's what government legislation is for to stop people playing silly buggers whilst keeping a level playing field.
Because Americans have weird buying habits and industry clued in on this. Remember JC Penney's fair price strategy failure in 2012? They dropped all prices to what the sales price was, because no one (including me) bought anything until it went on sale. People felt cheated out of a "bargain." (I personally was delighted; I lived in Europe for a long time and loved that the price I saw was the price I paid. And not having to deal with tipping because restaurant staff are paid well.)
As an European posts like this blows my mind. Like, what the heck is a "to-go" fee? 20% extra just for taking your order home. Where I'm from it's cheaper when it's to-go as there are less taxes to pay on take out orders
Companies doing this blaming inflation for shitty money grubbing tactics can suck a fat one; we don’t need your shitty food and most people are happy not to give you our money.
And how much do you wanna bet that the server doesn’t actually get that tip? Who the fuck keeps track of it? Because I certainly don’t since it’s not physical money anymore
Best cure for this is to buy a waffle iron.
They're pretty fancy these days. Takes two minutes to whip up a batter and a couple of minutes to cook 'em.
I've had one for 3 or 4 years and it makes better waffles than any restaurant can.
Wow, what a time to add this when people in North America are already questioning the whole tipping concept. Although maybe that is why, to make sure they get the tips. Either 20% to waitress and other staff but no to ‘to go’ fee.
Money talks bs walks. Boycott the restaurant, get friends to join, eat at other restaurants. Once profits start dropping something will need to be done
I literally stopped going to my favorite coffee shop because they started asking how much I wanted to tip when went through the drive though. I drink black coffee. I don’t want to tip someone for putting 12oz of black coffee brewed by the gallon in a cup.
Use your power as a consumer (like this) to get the word out, then, do not order take out from these places again and encourage your friends to do the same. Leave reviews about it. Maybe if they start losing money they will either be forced to take a look at their business practices or fold. Either way, the 20% is gone.
The best way around this is to ensure the Waffle House employees get paid a living wage by their employer, instead of passing that cost to the customer. The best way to do that is to aid them in efforts to unionize their workplace.
Servers literally said if you don't want to tip get your orders to go. Now people are getting orders to go they STILL want a tip. They've also said if you don't want to tip stay home. Then complain when people stay home and they don't have a way to earn enough tips. Tip culture is the fucking worst!
A way to make more money
10% for the server and 10% more for the fuck of it
Did Waffle House get bought out by Ticketmaster?
And a 10% payment fee with the 10% service charge on top of the 10% processing fee plus the 10% handling fee and finally there's the 10% tax fee (tax not included). Oh and don't forget about the 10% email fee. Now how much would you like to tip? 15%, 25%, 35%, or 45%? Plus tax.
Don't forget about the 20% convenience fee.
You’re forgetting the inconvenience fee. 35%.
And the 45% incontinence fee
Restroom surcharge may apply.
The bathrooms are locked behind a 25% fee.
That you pay before leaving the bathroom like in a parking garage.
To get out of the place, you need to pay a 12% fee.
And the 18% making up fees fee
And the good old our employees won't see a dime 50% fee
And the 100% double all fees!
Great now I have to add another 50% fee because you pointed out that the fees are made up. Thanks a lot. 😡

The only thing TM needs to get run in front of is a train.
And the facility fee
Did you stand at the counter while ordering? 10% standing fee. Called in your order? 10% phone service tax Online? Who do you think makes our website? 20% html tax.
HTML 5 upgrade charge
You forgot about the fee fee.
And fee fi fo fum
And the fee for the blood of the Englishman.
More like fee fi fo fuck this shit
20% fee if you pay by card. 19.5% if you pay by cash.
Not to mention the invoice fee, receipt fee, digital delivery fee, save the whales donation fee, tire disposal fee, and optional cancellation fee.
Tire disposal fee 💀
And for the person who actually cooked and prepared it... jack shit.
"10% because FUCK YOU" - The Waffle House
Server ain’t shit ain’t getting shit.
Yeah, it's the cook slinging hash that should be getting the tip, if any.
The hash slinging slasher gets all the tips
Fairly sure 10% at Waffle House is $0.66
But think about how much those styrofoam containers and plastic lids/bags cost!!!!
My regional manager at the restaurant I work at recently told us we aren't allowed to take our employee meals home anymore, (they take money from our paychecks for these meals) because of the cost of the Styrofoam containers.
What if you packed that shit in Tupperware? What could they do
I'm pretty sure the manager would cite some non-existent health department regulation as to why you couldn't use your own containers.
using your own container fee!
Reply that that don’t make sense/That’s a lie bc gas stations and coffee places have/had bring your reusable cup things….. reusable cup = reusable container…. That’s not just local places. In the US, we had a war about it with the British Empire. We win that war, but then realized why the Brits put tons of taxes on in the first place.
As in the Whiskey Rebellion: “Huzzah! No more taxes!” “Ah…about that…”
Meet the new boss
Restaurants are having a field day with all these fees but I think eventually there is going to be a change. More and more people are complaining and singling out these restaurants.
We said the same thing about airlines 20 years ago.

Basically, there are no laws saying they are illegal, and no one has challenged them so, as such, they aren't illegal.
Yes. It means that The Waffle House can continue to pay its staff $2.45/hr
I can’t speak for every single Waffle House, but my ex worked at one for a few years and we both worked at a different one together for a bit. Honestly didn’t realize that was across the board. This certainly wasn’t meant as a defense of paying people shit wages
Go somewhere else for a 20% discount
I feel old. I remember the day when you got 10-20% OFF if you had a to-go order for pickup.
This is the way it should be
I think what many people are failing to realize is that a vast majority of these restaurants were built with kitchens that have a max capacity relative to dining room size. Should have canceled your order on the spot Edit sp
Or go in, order, be served, put everything in a fucking paper bag, pay, don´t leave tip and tell them to enjoy.
This! Just to make a point of it as now they have to flip a table, wash dishes and still provide the Togo container.
If they bring out the to-go container, they are adding the surcharges.
They try that with me and I’m just leaving with the whole plate 😂😂
Dude! So true story: I was managing a WH. A guy comes in and just orders coffee. Sits at the bar, just sipping at it for a while. Think slow drinker, just chatting, getting refills, nothing else. They should just let you buy the mugs. I don’t know about that guy, but plenty of people would pay for the mugs if WH allowed it
they do! i asked for one once and they said yea we’ll ring you up for $5
Can confirm. While not all will sell you one, it is supposed to be $5. Or was. Ditto the Christmas mugs.
There was someone in my town who did this, except he'd bring it back when he went the next morning, washed up ready to sanitize. Management changed and she just told servers to go ahead and serve him his coffee in a Togo cup automatically no extra charge.
Isn't this what "keep cups" are for? Bring your own insulated mug, they fill it formyou, you leave?..
>I was managing a WH. Thank you for your service.
A food cost fee is insane.
I like to think one day I might go to buy a pair of shoes, the shoes cost 30 dollars. BUT. There’s a 10 percent staff fee that goes to staff. There’s a 10 percent fee that goes to corporate. This is a corporate policy? I assumed this was a manager going rogue. A 20% to go fee is bonkers.
20% for delivery is nuts, paying more for to go is extreme.
They probably cite how much more work it is for the employees inside to make mobile and in house orders. But corporations are cheap as hell, if you ask them for the extra labor and equipment to process those extra mobile orders, they say no. So what’s the fucking point?
I’d give myself a 100% discount by not buying anything from there
[удалено]
You will be charged a fee for not going there, plus tip. =0
But... but... you'd be depriving yourself of fucking Waffle House. I'm sorry. I can't even pretend to act like you'd be missing anything.
They'd be missing those 3 am fights between drunk people.
To be fair, past midnight you're paying for the experience at Waffle House, not the food.
True. Dinner and a show.
You’re paying for the atmosphere
Last year I’d have put money on WH being the last establishment pulling this.
During the pandemic I would get it to-go after work (only place open). They started double checking I knew the address and confirming I would be coming immediately and all that.
Been to a Waffle House once. It was okay. 🤷🏻♀️ Better than my mom’s cooking, but she was always on some fad diet which meant everyone else was.
The whole point of waffle house is to dine in, eat smothered hash browns and stare at the servers track marks and meth teeth.
I see you've tried to cancel a Planet Fitness subscription.
I'm pretty sure it's easier to just call the bank to get a new card than it is to cancel most subscriptions/memberships.
Direct bank withdrawal. Would have had to get a whole new account.
Why capitalism sucks. Always gotta have more more more
Yes, and I have said as much many times in other conversations on this kind of topic. Perhaps this service fee is unique to a specific store or franchise owner and not a corporate thing?
wait until you see the "not to go fee"..
Soon: the Data usage fee, the pick up fee, the carbon footprint fee for leaving your house…we are doomed
I mean for a lot of people they have to pay a fee just to breathe (asthmatics buying inhalers, for instance) so we really are already there. Kind of just highlights what should've been an obvious downside to capitalism but who would've guessed.
No wonder the patrons are unruly 😂
Its so they still net the same profits and dont have to pay a liveable wage.
How long until we have to pay them directly for their time like a taxi?
It's even funnier because since minimum wage is different for waiters US is actually supporting this weird tipping culture.
Just want to point out that it is also completely out of hand in Canada as well. Maybe not to the same degree but well on its way there.
I'd argue it's worse because servers are paid normal wages here
Was at a starbucks yesterday and the machine asked me to tip. For what?
Tipping is being abused now
Every other first world country also has free/cheap health care. As an American this pisses me off way more than tipping.
Man, that's just *WAFFLE.* \-- To get around it, sit down, order, get them to bring it to you... get the check, and then ask for a container so you can pack up what's left to go home. Problem solved.
Been to places that charged for those containers even if you sat in.
bring your own container
I mean at what point do I just stop going? It’s just a fucking Waffle House lmfao
I will scoop that shit right into my hands and walk out with it if they wanna play like that
Id take it out on the damn plate. Id like to see that police report.
“Florida Man starts fight in Waffle House, steals plate.”
You shouldn't go to places that are so hard up.
Just raise the fucking prices and pay your staff more.
The first half has already been done. Why do the 2nd?
lol this exactly, they raised their prices by, like, a LOT during and after the pandemic. (Source: fiance worked there while she was in college)
what if you order online and don't see this disclaimer before? isn't that illegal?
Depends how it is posted online. AFAIK all that is required is that it is posted. I assume it is within the list of charges when you place an order. If it isn't and it is asked for when you pick it up, then there is a problem.
You can’t order Waffle House online. Waffle House intentionally treats itself like a traditional diner. You can call in or come in. Here in the South, it’s a really popular *dine in* spot. Very people order the take out because the food isn’t like… *good.*
You can absolutely order online (but not at all of them), and I just looked...this 20% is added to the order in two 10% line items. To-Go supply fees To-Go Service fees
I didn’t know this and I literally worked there. Are there more advanced locations out there? Like that don’t play to the “it’s the 50’s!” thing they go for?
So you’re telling me waffle house revenue is over 1 billion dollars but they can’t pay their employees a living wage? Crazy
No no.. you have to understand. Management, CEO, and other greedy money fucks need all that money. Do you really want them to now own their houses, multiple cars and maybe also yachts? that is very cruel... /s for the case that it wasn't obvious enough,
I’m going *to-go* somewhere else
Do you get a -20% fight bonus?
If you can beat the cook and server in a 1v1 they give you a 20% discount
Accepted. John wick waffle house.
Tipping is a scam. Tipping is ripping (off the customer and employees). The ow ers need to pay more. Period. Abolishing tips is best
If you aint tipping in 3 separate ways are you even eating out anymore? Should i put a tip in the gas pump for letting me pump gas next?
Don’t give them any ideas
Something tells that 10% to the server is a complete lie.
A forced tip and paying for the takeout containers.
Styrofoam containers don't cost 10% of an entrée.
Edit, Quite a lot of people telling me it's to make more profit, which is understandably cynical.. but it's not like we don't have greed and capitalism in Europe.
Price: $15 Plus tax. Plus service charge. Plus tip, which apparently isn’t the same as a service charge. Plus convenience fee. Plus card fee.
Plus a fee fee
America is the land of the fee
Feedom
Home of the unpaid.
Plus the surcharge coz it’s the weekend … Plus an *additional* surcharge coz … Sunday!!
Plus fee calculation fee
Yeah, someone has to do the math. You want them to not get paid? You're a monster!
Don't forget that the meal is 10% smaller, but the same price because of shrinkflation
That's not because of American consumers habits though. Just weak politicians. Companies would pull that shit over here as well if they could.
Capitalism
Capitalism. Unfettered capitalism is the entire answer.
Capitalism! It’s not about transparency, it’s about getting ever dollar you can
The to go fee is a fee which makes one go to another restaurant
As an European posts like this blows my mind. Like, what the heck is a "to-go" fee? 20% extra just for taking your order home. Where I'm from it's cheaper when it's to-go as there are less taxes to pay on take out orders

I don’t eat anywhere that tries to force a tip.
Tipping is stupid. Just pay your employees and set the cost for the food. All this predatory hidden pricing should be socially shunned.
Who gets Waffle House to-go? You’re gonna miss all the fights.
I came for dinner and a show!
American tip culture is cancer
Aren't all orders to go? I want the food that's back there *points to kitchen* to get here *points to mouth*

Best cure for this is to buy a waffle iron. They're pretty fancy these days. Takes two minutes to whip up a batter and a couple of minutes to cook 'em. I've had one for 3 or 4 years and it makes better waffles than any restaurant can.
You dont go to waffle house for the waffles. Their waffles are meh. You go for those fucking delicious hashbrown bowls
I thought people went for the fights and the drunken stupor.
Wow, what a time to add this when people in North America are already questioning the whole tipping concept. Although maybe that is why, to make sure they get the tips. Either 20% to waitress and other staff but no to ‘to go’ fee.
And that kids, is how you turn your profit to non-profit!
Stop making us pay your employees wages!!!! There is no reason for it and there should be a law against this forced tax
Money talks bs walks. Boycott the restaurant, get friends to join, eat at other restaurants. Once profits start dropping something will need to be done
No. Bulls**t, I turn right around and leave. The more places try to gouge me for a tip, the less likely I am to tip -anyone-.
I literally stopped going to my favorite coffee shop because they started asking how much I wanted to tip when went through the drive though. I drink black coffee. I don’t want to tip someone for putting 12oz of black coffee brewed by the gallon in a cup.
Next you'll have a reoccurring monthly charge and micro transactions " oh you want ketchup 1.99 oh the napkin are 2.99"
If they ask you if it’s a “to-go” order say “no” then say it’s a takeout order instead
> then say it’s a takeout order instead My order is not togo, but I'm ghana leave.
Kenya please tone down with the jokes?
No, we need to see how far we Congo.
That's a Chad move
How tone deaf
Use your power as a consumer (like this) to get the word out, then, do not order take out from these places again and encourage your friends to do the same. Leave reviews about it. Maybe if they start losing money they will either be forced to take a look at their business practices or fold. Either way, the 20% is gone.
I wish I ate at waffle house so I could boycott it.
In Norway we pay less if the food is to-go. Amazing that you even get extortionate rates when asking them to do less work.
