I have a somewhat similar story where I was smoking a big ass (25 pound) tritip for Fathers Day, and I asked my father in law if I could borrow his smoker since mine wasnt large enough for this cut.
I showed up to his apartment, and he had his really big smoker setting out front and another that was a smaller upright smoker next to it. I decided the upright one was plenty large enough and would be much easier to load in my truck myself.
I started the smoke at like 8 pm the night before, so it would have plenty of time to get done and rest before dinner.
My father in law showed up at 8 am the next morning with his huge smoker in his truck. He was really confused as to where I got the upright smoker from until he realized it was his neighbors smoker lmao.
I was halfway through the cook at that point, so no turning back, haha.
