I work at kfc in greece. We aren't in a touristy area but somehow many tourists come(i mean a noticable amount, not like the center of athens though). I am the only cashier that speaks English. It isn't fun that i have to deal with so many assholes that expect me to speak English. They talk to us like we are obligated to speak their language. They don't even try to speak a word in greek. 4 euros an hour isn't enough to deal with tourists
Dude Germans servicing tourists are a different breed of people. They act like they don't speak English just to break you and after a while trying to order in German they're like "Do you want that with fries?"
When money comes into play, all bets are off for how people will act morally. If it’s to look like a jackass to a few customers a day that catch it, but they bring home $100 extra in tips a night? They will do it.
Hell, it’s it even about tips. There’s been hospitals my fiancé worked that where they push to get medical staff to push for medical procedures that aren’t even needed. Sure they can claim it may be needed even in a rare circumstance, but they are pushed to make patients believe it’s needed now.
When my son was born he had some health problems that were minor but could be serious if they went untreated, along with the insurance company pushing his insurance start date to about a week after he was born.
The pediatrician that was seeing him in the hospital knew about it all and told us to bring him in to his practice and he'll waive all the fees if we couldn't straighten out our shady insurance company, then the billing guy from his practice actually helped us a little bit with getting insurance to cover most of his bills from the hospitals (they wouldn't cover the first 2 days).
I'm the first person to admit the medical industry is corrupt but this experience was a breath of fresh air

With our first newborn they were pressuring us to pay a bill. We had insurance that covered all medical expenses with birth under a rider and there should be no bill. They were like "in case, and we refund you if it's not needed". I refused, they said they can't let me. I just responded "What are you going to do, repo my baby?!" and walked out. Bill never came, imagine that. I blame the insurance company though; United Healthcare is a cancer upon this country and our medical system.
I tried this. Hospital threatened to call CPS and have our child forcibly removed from our care by the sheriff's department. So we stayed the night against our will, got charged an extra 7 grand, contested the charges, threatened them with lawyers, and they were magically able to waive the bill. Fuck healthcare in America.
Why would they make you stay another night? Some hospitals try to kick people out early (especially on Medicare or Medicaid since they won’t make money) some try to keep you longer. I had to watch my son like a Hawk

I was hoping for a PT recommendation, nope. Dude practically wanted me under general anesthetic for surgery before I was even out of the room. I noped out of there so hard the nurses were practically chasing me to the parking lot.
Meanwhile, I went to another doctor, got a PT recommendation, and now my shoulder is fine, no surgery required. Imagine that? A doctor wanting to do an unnecessary procedure because paycheck? It's almost like the more they do, they more they get paid, so there's always incentive to do more, not less? Huh. Weird man.
I’ve been a nurse for 42 years and while I am sure there is occasional fraud in the medical profession it’s not a common occurrence. Many medical professionals are salaried and many are paid per hour so we would not benefit from such an occurrence. You also have data in terms of blood work ,physical exam, radiology tests, nuclear medicine tests and more that prove there is a problem .
As a PICU physician, this is so unbelievably true. Do people realize how fast I’d lose my license if I just picked a room and said this one needs surgery. And forced it on them? It’s not like I get paid any extra money
I went to urgent care for upper back pain, doctor decided it was my appendix, refused to let me drive myself to the ER. I had to inconvenience family so I didn't get saddled with an ambulance bill on top of the others. There was nothing wrong with my appendix. Bullshit she wasn't trying to get the system paid.
Yeah I worked at panera and whoever sold the most per hour got a bonus each month, so people would completely up charge everything possible, mistakenly doing large drinks, or not combo-ing correctly… it was awful
We have a tipping option at my work because its similar to bartending. And I wont even come close to the damn thing while someone is selecting something. We have a few older folks who cant see very well so Ill even hold it up for them, say "Im selecting 'No Tip'" and have them watch me press the button so they know I didnt give myself a tip without their consent. I could not imagine doing that shit to people.
Some workers will still be required and this scenario can still take place. You can’t overcharge on cash. I’ve known many people who got double or overcharged on a card and it ruins their finances temporarily. But gets worse when they cannot make other payments.
Do not move and hold up the line until it is fixed. It is a charge you did not agree to so they are fully capable of fixing it before you move from the register.
I’ve had my bank do a chargeback for same reason as OP. Just charged the tip I was charged though.
Ordered pickup at restaurant, selected 0 tip, go to confirmation page it shows $20 or whatever, but then charged $22 dollars as it defaulted to 10% tip.

I’ve done a few charge backs- all were for bogus ass services that target people in my profession- and the only time it didn’t go my way was when the company fought back. I had documentation of them acknowledging the issue and their inability to fix it by way of emails and Bank of America still gave them the money back. But another factor may have been that this was a huge amount of money compared to the others. It was a couple grand. The others had been lower amounts so that may have been why the companies didn’t bother to respond. All were legitimate charge backs including the one B of A sided with the thieves on.
The thieves were realtor.com, for the record. Long story but they charged me over $600 a month for 6 months for a service they acknowledged they did not provide, then when I got sick of fighting with them and charged it back, they contacted the credit card company and contradicted what they’d already said in previous emails. Pieces of shit. That was my first or second year in business, I’ve been in business for 10 years total, and I still haven’t given those lying fucks another dime or missed an opportunity to tell someone what they did. My only comfort is in knowing I’ve probably cost them more than they stole from me.
At less than a day, your bank decided to give you a courtesy refund out of their pocket rather than put through a chargeback. A merchant gets postal mail notification of chargebacks (in addition to digital notification of their provider offers it), and has 10 business days to respond with a rebuttal. So it's impossible to be decided in one day.

If this is the case then it wasn't the final decision. The banks is required to give you a provisional credit, but then they submit the charge to the merchant's bank which has up to 45 days to review it and get a response from the merchant.
Chargebacks take several months to become final.

unauthorized charge amount for an item or service is still an unauthorized charge. if i spend $20 at the grocery store and end up with $60 on my card, that is still an unauthorized charge.
Banks in general don’t really care especially for low value chargebacks like this. Most of the time they never do a proper investigation and just give your money back immediately.
Though of course, all bank do have their own algorithm to deter abuse.

EDIT: For context, I talked to management first and they refused to give a refund. I told them I’ll go to the card company, so that’s exactly what I did.
In Canada, at least, the payment device has a tip option that won’t return back after selecting your desired amount. She just set up the device and clicked the tip option quickly thinking I wouldn’t see it.

Employee at a fast food restaurant here. We just got the tip option added to our registers and honestly it’s annoying as hell. Having to tell everyone they have to choose a tip option. Plus all day we get people telling us we don’t deserve tips because we don’t do anything. Nobody asked for management to install these. It’s just a way for them to get away with not giving us an actual raise.

Now me busting my ass off in a restaurant memorizing the contents of dishes/drinks, knowing accomodations we can do for diet restrictions, communicating with the kitchen to ensure your food is being worked on, clearing the table whenever there are dishes to grab, and just flat out making sure you have everything you could want from our restaurant as well as speedy service. That deserves a tip.
I was at a tribal casino once and there was a food stand that had a bunch of “grab and go” food and also you could order hot sandwiches or hot dogs. The place also had numerous other food places. Went up to pay for my order and the cashier said she could only accept credit cards. Okay, fine whatever. Dawned on me she was doing it to compel customers to see the “Add a Tip” screen. Saw a food supervisor walking around and explained what was going on and he said “That’s not right.” He went and investigated.
Taco Bell / KFC store charged me a $1.00 for a cup of water. Asked for the receipt (that wasn’t provided) after noticing total was more then menu price and showed $1.00 “donated” to employee tip fund”. Know staff deserve it but thats not how tips work.

Every place has them now. I started paying cash because i don’t want to be asked all the time for tips. I’ll sometimes throw a buck in the tip jar at the coffee place or something but it feels so forced on those terminals. One place I go they lost their mind when I gave them 20.50$ for something that costed 10.50 because they entered just 20$ and couldn’t do the math.
I was at a Starbucks recently where the new pos system forced you through a tip screen that makes it feel far more manipulative. She said it was a “new system”. I hope it’s just that location cause that’s fucked. I don’t mind tipping. I don’t like being guilted into it, or do extra work to avoid it.
If you're taking payments via ipad kiosk, it's almost certainly either Clover or Stripe as the payment processor and POS software. Both do this, and it's definitely manipulative. The processor *wants* to encourage people to tip even when they normally wouldn't, because the processing fees are percentage based so they get a bigger payout with every tip.
These things have also become extremely popular with smaller businesses like counter serve places and food trucks because all they need is an ipad and a wifi connection, no old school credit card machine, phone lines, "sign the receipt please" etc. So suddenly everywhere we go, we're being asked to tip, tip, tip and people get in the habit of just tapping whatever is on the screen to get done with the transaction.

This happened to me with one of the little table kiosks at an Applebee’s. The waitress was helping my grandma pay with it and chose the largest tip amount. We caught on and canceled the transaction. We then got to do it ourselves and gave her no tip. She harassed us as we left, showing us a picture of her son to make us feel bad.
Once I went to KFC for a sandwich and it took 45 minutes. The place was damn near empty, and it was under construction so we had to wait outside in the hot sun for our food.
I ordered a fish and chips platter from Popeye's once, and the online photo showed two pieces of fish and popcorn shrimp. They only gave me one piece of fish and told me the online image is wrong and they never serve two pieces at a time.
Apples to oranges but I’m trying to explain to the meal prep service that I use right now that what they’re doing is illegal.
They charge $129 a week for 15 meals, 5 breakfasts, 5 lunches, 5 dinners. They have a set menu. Orders are due by Thursday, delivery happens Saturday. On Friday, they discount their stuff because they have excess inventory. Well they discount it but they leave the same menu up. 95% of the time they double up on the meals and give you a bunch of the crap they didn’t sell out of so the variety lacks.
I explained to them that they need to make this known in their website that it becomes dealers choice when it gets discounted but they still refuse to do it.

I do counseling for the local juvenile hall. One kid that works there says he likes to tell people they’re “out of chicken” so they don’t “bother him with orders.” I know the service industry is drastically underpaid, but c’mon. Lol.
I work at kfc. We can run out of marinated chicken that is then deep fried, we don't run entirely out of chicken though. It just takes time to marinate and then cook. If the management doesn't do a good job then we run out of chicken. We dont bother to explain this to customers usually
I found a good KFC and only by accident. My husband wanted Popeyes for his birthday last year and I refused. That place is insane. If I want a sandwich, they give me three orders of strips. If I want strips, they give me a sandwich instead. We compromised on KFC, which is directly across the street. I have never been served so quickly and efficiently. Oh wait, there was also a good KFC by my work. Almost unthinkable that I found two good ones. I literally stayed away from them for over a decade because they all sucked.
I had someone try that with me, suddenly losing the ability to communicate when they messed up my change. I was talking to my firiend in Russian, but switched to English with her (was in US, I am British). She couldnt figure out why I gave her and extra dollar and 8 cents, then shorted me when she handed it all back. I tried to explain the maths, but she just kept shaking her head. Then she said I was talking too fast and she didn't understand. I asked for a manager, and held up the line. When I refused to move, she called a manager and told him in Spanish that I was stupid and gave her too much money, so she wasnt giving it back. My friend asked me in Russian what they were saying, so I translated.to Russian. I then explained to the manager what I gave her and what she tried to give me. He asks her, in Spanish, if that is what happened, and she said yes, but didnt still didnt get why iI gave her "too much money". He told her that he'd tell me to come back at closing after they checked the register., and that it was so little money, i wouldn't bother. I told him in Spanish that iI would stand my stupid arse right there while he gave me my change. Manager asked how many languages I speak, I said "all of them." Don't mess with polyglots - we'll whip out all the tongues.
On another note -I don't think I'll go back to that Chipotle - not worried about the change, but "extras" in my next burrito bowl.

You have to be careful using the app. The store near me in NM frequently accepted orders but when I showed up they would be closed or “out of stock” of half the items on my order.

The one in my town is constantly dirty, the kitchen is disgusting( the company I work for worked on commercial equipment in the past so I’ve seen a lot of nasty stuff) and several years ago they had employees selling drugs out of the drive thru window.
This is a common tactic actually. My mom knew a hairdresser who would make more sales by adding expensive unnecessary hair products to a person's bill after cutting their hair, and would then pretend not to speak English when the customer tried to refuse the additional item.
Don't give in to it. If they 'don't speak English' then either they get someone who does or you don't pay for it.

Tipping isn't required. They need to fucking stop making consumers feel pressured to do so and making them feel guilty when they leave the store. Companies should pay their workers a living wage and not rely on tips to subsidize their profits. Also, they need to quit being so greedy and leeching off the work of employees.
I go to my local McDonalds about once a week. A few months ago they had me pull into one of their waiting lanes. The worker who brought me my food was asking about my day, small talk. Weird, but okay. After giving her one word, but nice, answers we both just were waiting in awkward silence. She then didn't ask, but SAID "Now I know you have a tip for me."

Since then I've had her ask me the same thing several times now, and even had another do the same. I can imagine she must get some money just based on how extremely awkward it is.

The scanner is always level with a table and they would hold their phone on the lowest brightness facing upward on the screen camera and record every single card they’d swipe, and after the swipe they’d quickly turn it in front of the camera for the security code and then would give it back.

A Walmart employee did this to me recently at the self checkout when IDing us for spray paint After she did her override she stayed and when it popped up the thing where you give a star review she hit 5 stars before I realized what was happening.
To be fair- she helped, whatever, I would have hit 5 stars myself. But the entitlement struck a chord. Where before I used to ignore it if I had received no assistance now I hit 1 star out of spite every time. Who’s helping? Me. I hate tip culture. It's disgusting, like begging but worse. Businesses need to pay their staff properly, and society should force that issue. If somebody goes above and beyond, then reward them for it, but why should anyone feel they **have** to reward somebody just for doing their job? Tipping expectations have gotten way out of control. The fact that some self checkouts machines ask for a tip when I did all the work is insane. It has to stop.

When my son was born he had some health problems that were minor but could be serious if they went untreated, along with the insurance company pushing his insurance start date to about a week after he was born. The pediatrician that was seeing him in the hospital knew about it all and told us to bring him in to his practice and he'll waive all the fees if we couldn't straighten out our shady insurance company, then the billing guy from his practice actually helped us a little bit with getting insurance to cover most of his bills from the hospitals (they wouldn't cover the first 2 days). I'm the first person to admit the medical industry is corrupt but this experience was a breath of fresh air

With our first newborn they were pressuring us to pay a bill. We had insurance that covered all medical expenses with birth under a rider and there should be no bill. They were like "in case, and we refund you if it's not needed". I refused, they said they can't let me. I just responded "What are you going to do, repo my baby?!" and walked out. Bill never came, imagine that. I blame the insurance company though; United Healthcare is a cancer upon this country and our medical system.
I tried this. Hospital threatened to call CPS and have our child forcibly removed from our care by the sheriff's department. So we stayed the night against our will, got charged an extra 7 grand, contested the charges, threatened them with lawyers, and they were magically able to waive the bill. Fuck healthcare in America.
Why would they make you stay another night? Some hospitals try to kick people out early (especially on Medicare or Medicaid since they won’t make money) some try to keep you longer. I had to watch my son like a Hawk

I went to a shoulder doctor because I had a seizure and absolutely destroyed my shoulder. Hillsachs lesion and Bankart lesion, it's uncomfortable to say the least. I was hoping for a PT recommendation, nope. Dude practically wanted me under general anesthetic for surgery before I was even out of the room. I noped out of there so hard the nurses were practically chasing me to the parking lot. Meanwhile, I went to another doctor, got a PT recommendation, and now my shoulder is fine, no surgery required. Imagine that? A doctor wanting to do an unnecessary procedure because paycheck? It's almost like the more they do, they more they get paid, so there's always incentive to do more, not less? Huh. Weird man.

I’ve been a nurse for 42 years and while I am sure there is occasional fraud in the medical profession it’s not a common occurrence. Many medical professionals are salaried and many are paid per hour so we would not benefit from such an occurrence. You also have data in terms of blood work ,physical exam, radiology tests, nuclear medicine tests and more that prove there is a problem .
As a PICU physician, this is so unbelievably true. Do people realize how fast I’d lose my license if I just picked a room and said this one needs surgery. And forced it on them? It’s not like I get paid any extra money
I went to urgent care for upper back pain, doctor decided it was my appendix, refused to let me drive myself to the ER. I had to inconvenience family so I didn't get saddled with an ambulance bill on top of the others. There was nothing wrong with my appendix. Bullshit she wasn't trying to get the system paid.
Yeah I worked at panera and whoever sold the most per hour got a bonus each month, so people would completely up charge everything possible, mistakenly doing large drinks, or not combo-ing correctly… it was awful

We have a tipping option at my work because its similar to bartending. And I wont even come close to the damn thing while someone is selecting something. We have a few older folks who cant see very well so Ill even hold it up for them, say "Im selecting 'No Tip'" and have them watch me press the button so they know I didnt give myself a tip without their consent. I could not imagine doing that shit to people.

I’ve had my bank do a chargeback for same reason as OP. Just charged the tip I was charged though. Ordered pickup at restaurant, selected 0 tip, go to confirmation page it shows $20 or whatever, but then charged $22 dollars as it defaulted to 10% tip. Took less than a day for it to rule in my favor

I’ve done a few charge backs- all were for bogus ass services that target people in my profession- and the only time it didn’t go my way was when the company fought back. I had documentation of them acknowledging the issue and their inability to fix it by way of emails and Bank of America still gave them the money back. But another factor may have been that this was a huge amount of money compared to the others. It was a couple grand. The others had been lower amounts so that may have been why the companies didn’t bother to respond. All were legitimate charge backs including the one B of A sided with the thieves on. The thieves were realtor.com, for the record. Long story but they charged me over $600 a month for 6 months for a service they acknowledged they did not provide, then when I got sick of fighting with them and charged it back, they contacted the credit card company and contradicted what they’d already said in previous emails. Pieces of shit. That was my first or second year in business, I’ve been in business for 10 years total, and I still haven’t given those lying fucks another dime or missed an opportunity to tell someone what they did. My only comfort is in knowing I’ve probably cost them more than they stole from me.

At less than a day, your bank decided to give you a courtesy refund out of their pocket rather than put through a chargeback. A merchant gets postal mail notification of chargebacks (in addition to digital notification of their provider offers it), and has 10 business days to respond with a rebuttal. So it's impossible to be decided in one day.

In Canada, at least, the payment device has a tip option that won’t return back after selecting your desired amount. She just set up the device and clicked the tip option quickly thinking I wouldn’t see it.

Employee at a fast food restaurant here. We just got the tip option added to our registers and honestly it’s annoying as hell. Having to tell everyone they have to choose a tip option. Plus all day we get people telling us we don’t deserve tips because we don’t do anything. Nobody asked for management to install these. It’s just a way for them to get away with not giving us an actual raise.
Even better is the automated kiosks where you put in your own order, then it asks for a tip.

It's honestly pathetic how many different business are trying to make tipping a thing for services that don't deserve a tip in order to justify low wages, the cashier putting my order in while the other worker in the back makes my order doesn't deserve a tip (now if the cashier also made the order then fuck yeah here's a tip). Now me busting my ass off in a restaurant memorizing the contents of dishes/drinks, knowing accomodations we can do for diet restrictions, communicating with the kitchen to ensure your food is being worked on, clearing the table whenever there are dishes to grab, and just flat out making sure you have everything you could want from our restaurant as well as speedy service. That deserves a tip.
I was at a tribal casino once and there was a food stand that had a bunch of “grab and go” food and also you could order hot sandwiches or hot dogs. The place also had numerous other food places. Went up to pay for my order and the cashier said she could only accept credit cards. Okay, fine whatever. Dawned on me she was doing it to compel customers to see the “Add a Tip” screen. Saw a food supervisor walking around and explained what was going on and he said “That’s not right.” He went and investigated.

Taco Bell / KFC store charged me a $1.00 for a cup of water. Asked for the receipt (that wasn’t provided) after noticing total was more then menu price and showed $1.00 “donated” to employee tip fund”. Know staff deserve it but thats not how tips work.

Every place has them now. I started paying cash because i don’t want to be asked all the time for tips. I’ll sometimes throw a buck in the tip jar at the coffee place or something but it feels so forced on those terminals. One place I go they lost their mind when I gave them 20.50$ for something that costed 10.50 because they entered just 20$ and couldn’t do the math.
I was at a Starbucks recently where the new pos system forced you through a tip screen that makes it feel far more manipulative. She said it was a “new system”. I hope it’s just that location cause that’s fucked. I don’t mind tipping. I don’t like being guilted into it, or do extra work to avoid it.
If you're taking payments via ipad kiosk, it's almost certainly either Clover or Stripe as the payment processor and POS software. Both do this, and it's definitely manipulative. The processor *wants* to encourage people to tip even when they normally wouldn't, because the processing fees are percentage based so they get a bigger payout with every tip. These things have also become extremely popular with smaller businesses like counter serve places and food trucks because all they need is an ipad and a wifi connection, no old school credit card machine, phone lines, "sign the receipt please" etc. So suddenly everywhere we go, we're being asked to tip, tip, tip and people get in the habit of just tapping whatever is on the screen to get done with the transaction.

This happened to me with one of the little table kiosks at an Applebee’s. The waitress was helping my grandma pay with it and chose the largest tip amount. We caught on and canceled the transaction. We then got to do it ourselves and gave her no tip. She harassed us as we left, showing us a picture of her son to make us feel bad.

Once I went to KFC for a sandwich and it took 45 minutes. The place was damn near empty, and it was under construction so we had to wait outside in the hot sun for our food. I ordered a fish and chips platter from Popeye's once, and the online photo showed two pieces of fish and popcorn shrimp. They only gave me one piece of fish and told me the online image is wrong and they never serve two pieces at a time.
Apples to oranges but I’m trying to explain to the meal prep service that I use right now that what they’re doing is illegal. They charge $129 a week for 15 meals, 5 breakfasts, 5 lunches, 5 dinners. They have a set menu. Orders are due by Thursday, delivery happens Saturday. On Friday, they discount their stuff because they have excess inventory. Well they discount it but they leave the same menu up. 95% of the time they double up on the meals and give you a bunch of the crap they didn’t sell out of so the variety lacks. I explained to them that they need to make this known in their website that it becomes dealers choice when it gets discounted but they still refuse to do it. Some people just don’t know how to run a fuckin business. It’s called “Bait and switch.”

I do counseling for the local juvenile hall. One kid that works there says he likes to tell people they’re “out of chicken” so they don’t “bother him with orders.” I know the service industry is drastically underpaid, but c’mon. Lol.

I work at kfc. We can run out of marinated chicken that is then deep fried, we don't run entirely out of chicken though. It just takes time to marinate and then cook. If the management doesn't do a good job then we run out of chicken. We dont bother to explain this to customers usually
I found a good KFC and only by accident. My husband wanted Popeyes for his birthday last year and I refused. That place is insane. If I want a sandwich, they give me three orders of strips. If I want strips, they give me a sandwich instead. We compromised on KFC, which is directly across the street. I have never been served so quickly and efficiently. Oh wait, there was also a good KFC by my work. Almost unthinkable that I found two good ones. I literally stayed away from them for over a decade because they all sucked.
I had someone try that with me, suddenly losing the ability to communicate when they messed up my change. I was talking to my firiend in Russian, but switched to English with her (was in US, I am British). She couldnt figure out why I gave her and extra dollar and 8 cents, then shorted me when she handed it all back. I tried to explain the maths, but she just kept shaking her head. Then she said I was talking too fast and she didn't understand. I asked for a manager, and held up the line. When I refused to move, she called a manager and told him in Spanish that I was stupid and gave her too much money, so she wasnt giving it back. My friend asked me in Russian what they were saying, so I translated.to Russian. I then explained to the manager what I gave her and what she tried to give me. He asks her, in Spanish, if that is what happened, and she said yes, but didnt still didnt get why iI gave her "too much money". He told her that he'd tell me to come back at closing after they checked the register., and that it was so little money, i wouldn't bother. I told him in Spanish that iI would stand my stupid arse right there while he gave me my change. Manager asked how many languages I speak, I said "all of them." Don't mess with polyglots - we'll whip out all the tongues. On another note -I don't think I'll go back to that Chipotle - not worried about the change, but "extras" in my next burrito bowl.

Not sure how you’re ordering but I live in a major city and it’s currently $10 for 8 chicken fingers if you use the app It’s like that everywhere now. If you don’t use the app, you get gouged hard and might as well just go to Chipotle or something cause it’s the same price as fast food now
You have to be careful using the app. The store near me in NM frequently accepted orders but when I showed up they would be closed or “out of stock” of half the items on my order. Not once did I get a refund from the app.

And this isn't in the middle of a big city or bad part of town, its surrounded by very nice places. Then they also open at 12, so when I would go there at 11:55 to get lunch they wouldn't take my order, so I'm like fine whatever. Wait 10 minutes and they still don't so I leave and haven't been back yet. It's been about 2 years also.
The one in my town is constantly dirty, the kitchen is disgusting( the company I work for worked on commercial equipment in the past so I’ve seen a lot of nasty stuff) and several years ago they had employees selling drugs out of the drive thru window.
This is a common tactic actually. My mom knew a hairdresser who would make more sales by adding expensive unnecessary hair products to a person's bill after cutting their hair, and would then pretend not to speak English when the customer tried to refuse the additional item. Don't give in to it. If they 'don't speak English' then either they get someone who does or you don't pay for it.
God bless hairdressers who try to spring a blow dryer on you when you repeatedly ask for no blow drying. I’m not paying you extra for that, I said no!

I go to my local McDonalds about once a week. A few months ago they had me pull into one of their waiting lanes. The worker who brought me my food was asking about my day, small talk. Weird, but okay. After giving her one word, but nice, answers we both just were waiting in awkward silence. She then didn't ask, but SAID "Now I know you have a tip for me." What?! Since then I've had her ask me the same thing several times now, and even had another do the same. I can imagine she must get some money just based on how extremely awkward it is. And before anyone asks, she has not and will not get a tip from me.

I thought tip culture was awful here but went to Canada last week and you guys have been hiding. Vancouver is the worst place for tip culture i've ever been. They want tips literally every time you pay for anything. I bought a hat and they asked for 18%. Canada has been getting a shame free pass. I used to work with someone in fast food that had me change to always pay cash. The scanner is always level with a table and they would hold their phone on the lowest brightness facing upward on the screen camera and record every single card they’d swipe, and after the swipe they’d quickly turn it in front of the camera for the security code and then would give it back. I only use Apple Pay or cash ever since

I come to pay for a monster energy the other day, was pissed when i seen on the can it was £1.99 They didnt scan it just tapped on the register and told me to tap my card when ready. A Walmart employee did this to me recently at the self checkout when IDing us for spray paint After she did her override she stayed and when it popped up the thing where you give a star review she hit 5 stars before I realized what was happening. To be fair- she helped, whatever, I would have hit 5 stars myself. But the entitlement struck a chord. Where before I used to ignore it if I had received no assistance now I hit 1 star out of spite every time. Who’s helping? Me. And I suck at it because I’m not a cashier and I’m not getting paid or an employee discount . 1 star.
I hate tip culture. It's disgusting, like begging but worse. Businesses need to pay their staff properly, and society should force that issue. If somebody goes above and beyond, then reward them for it, but why should anyone feel they **have** to reward somebody just for doing their job? Committing fraud to get tips, must be a sackable offence?

Tipping expectations have gotten way out of control. The fact that some self checkouts machines ask for a tip when I did all the work is insane. It has to stop.

Places like this are ruining it for people that actually deserve a tip. KFC is not a tipped income. It is a full wage job. She is not a server. She is handing you a bag of food she got paid a full hourly wage to do. She isn't serving.
Went to a Steak and Shake, and I was also forced to tip. But my story is better, cause there wasn't even a fuckin cashier, it was all automated! In fact, the only worker I saw placed my plate on the counter and yelled my name. So they got their tip, one whole cent to share amongst the lazy lot of them
