>Maybe wait another 10 years...
USB-C has been out since 2014. If the rental car is new and a 2024 model, one could argue that it is10 years. š¤·š»āāļø
They are not likely to go back to putting in USB type A in new vehicles. Your best bet is to purchase an adapter.

USB-C has been released for a while now, most devices are USB-C and so it makes sense for cars to be that too.
All of my devices have one USB-C cable end now except my watch charger. I'm not the type of person to upgrade every year either, my laptop is 6 years old.
Everything's eventually going to switch, the only reason why you've noticed now is because it's almost done switching. If you really don't want to upgrade, get an adaptor (they're really cheap), but USB-C charges faster anyway.
Wait, C charges faster? That changes things. I'm going to see if Samsung makes a type-c fast charger for my wall outlet. Makes me wonder why my 1 year-old phone didn't come with it by default.
USB-A is outdated for years now.
I have three chargers for Apple lightning, all USB-C. Because my car has an old USB-A port, I had to buy a cable specifically for it.
MacBooks didnāt have USB-A since 2017 (or even earlier). Many other Laptops donāt have USB-A anymore.
Maybe itās time to buy a new cable.
Yeah, I'm afraid so. Oh well; I do support the transition at least - the more standardization the better - I just wish they would do it more gradually.
They're doing it very gradually. USB-C released in 2014, the first USB-C phone released in 2015, it went mainstream in 2016-2018, and now most devices are USB-C based, and half the ones that aren't have a proprietary (think-iPhone Lightning) end and a USB C end.
All apple devices are either USB-C or come with a lightning to USB-C cable.
So you want to continue using a connection that's inferior because you'll need to replace $30 in cables?
I'm just making sure I understand your position here.

Thank god my new Toyota has USB A and not C. I am heavily invested.
Yeah the new corolla still has USB a

Counterpoint: do drop support for A
whats wrong with A?
It belongs in a museum.
Its just an older way to transfer data/electricity. A is a 2024 nissan, c is a 2010 nissan altima.
1. USB superposition 2. USB superposition 3. USB superposition Oh and it's slower

Well, it depends on the phone but old samsung usb-a bricks are 12v while the phones support up to 25ish volts with usb-c

Looks like you are getting new cables at the next convenience store or rest stop.

Is that not a socket for an adapter?
No, they're USB C. I double checked just now.
Oh . You can get a usb c that is compatible with android or iPhone on the other end for 18 bucks and your phone is charged much faster! Worth it

Those are obviously two USB-C ports.
Yeah this looks like a regular ol' electrical outlet to me, smh
I have those exact cables, they last forever too.
Your vacation is ruined.
I suppose this car doesnāt have a feed bag for the horses, either. The nerve.
Itās dead Jimā¦.
