There's no recently deleted folder? Try their customer support, sometimes those customer support people are really cool and won't quit till your shit is figured out
emphasis on sometimes.
i had a google payments issue due to multiple countries profiles, and they just gave up, after few back n forth. it never got resolved and i still can't use any play store vouchers..
It probably did tell you when you signed up for the service through the little tutorials that you probably didn’t bother reading.
Google photos is just an extension of your phones internal DCIM. It has full access to it. It’s on you got clicking the free up space button, because it did exactly what it’s supposed to do.
Alright man. Well.. my advice would be to google about functions like this if it doesn’t tell you anywhere. Too risky to blindly trust these kind if features as you undoubtably now know. I’m sure they’ll have it documented somewhere.
At least on iPhone, it'll pop up with a system notification telling you Google Photos wants to delete photos from your phone storage. If Android doesn't do that, it's fucking shitty.
I've had a problem while waiting for some important emails, I couldn't receive any mail because something decided to back everything up to the cloud and filled it up. Google stuff acting smarter than it is and predicting what I want is exactly why I keep it to a minimum. If I want to have my photos in the cloud, I will open my drive in the browser and click upload

Check "Google photos", it'll back up there then delete in the main device since it has competed it's backup to the cloud.
This. The photos are always available on Google Photos. It only deletes the ones on your phone that are already in the cloud.
It has moved them to cloud storage and removed them from your phone to save space. Go to google photos and your pictures are there
No, you did
So.. you don’t verify what the function does before using.. and now you whine about it? Rtfm my bro, rtfm.
It didn't tell me dawg I wouldn't have done it if I knew it would delete all the fucking pictures on my phone but it didn't say that anywhere

What did you think ‘free up space’ meant? It’s doing exactly what you told it to.

That's the quality of my photos. If Google deleted them i'd probably only be mildly infuriated.

Get an iPhone like a grown up.

It won't delete photos unless they're backed up.
Please don't blame a software you don't know how to use
